An error has occurred while updating the device software. PLEASE HELP - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I was trying to downgrade my s7 edge from the latest monthly security patch back to an older one. I got an error after I did it and i heard it had something to do with the bootloader being new so I put all the files in the right spot in odin except i didnt do bootloader. That also failed and now im stuck at "an error has occurred while updating the device software. Use emergency recovery function in the smart switch pc software. I went into smart switch but i dont know what my S/N number.
If anyone can help me get out of this it would be greatly appreciated.

Unable to connect to mobile network after OTA update (MIPI Device Fail)

Hi folks,
I recently put the G935U firmware https://forum.xda-developers.com/att-s7-edge/how-to/odin-n-7-0-g935uoym4bqd2-4-11-17-g935u-t3616834on my G935A and it was working perfectly. After the latest OTA update I am not longer able to connect to mobile networks.
I tried re flashing the 935U firmware and also the AT&T firmware but the issue persists. Also I am not rooted and using odin to flash the firmware.
Did some research and checking with *#0011#, I am getting a message saying "MIPI Device Fail" and people say that it might be a hardware issue. Anyone else getting the same error after OTA?
Is this really a hardware problem or can this be due to a software issue as well?
No one knows anything about this? Really surprising...
For the benefit of folks who might face this issue in the future I fixed this by swapping the motherboard. Got one off Aliexpress and did the change by myself. Surprisingly it is very easy to do once you get the back cover off.

The only thing you can do is swap the motherboard. If not possible, use the phone for watching videos. It will also connect on wi-fi anyway. There is no software fix for this.
which motheboard? All? where u bought it?

No "device initialization" tab on Smart Switch?!

So, newer versions of Samsung Smart Switch do not offer the option for "Device Initialization" anymore.
How can I do a similar procedure apart from an Odin stock image flash?
I tried Odin stock image flash, but could not get totally unrooted that way. And was hoping to get clean unroot by using Smart Switch.
Any way to get the Device Initialization done in Smart Switch? Or does anyone have the older Smart Switch install files?
Thanks!
http://www.filehorse.com/download-samsung-smart-switch/30860/
This one worked for me. Just don't update when you open it. Regardless of the pop up that says device initialization is no longer available, it is.
The device initialization function was removed in the latest version of Smart Switch because it was exploited too much for debranding.
Here's the official download link for the last version with device initialization function:

this help me a lot. thanks for the link:fingers-crossed:
Thanks for the link to the version with initialise!
I downloaded it and tried to do the initialisation process but after putting in my details it said "SM-G935FD" does not support initialising?
Do you know another way to initialise other than flashing a stock rom in ODIN as so far every rom I've tried gets stuck in boot loops.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

It appears samsung has blocked it. Recent versions of smart switch automatically update to newest version and older versions installation always fails. I've tried many.

Now I also get the error message, that my SM-G930F does not support initialising even though it worked before, so Samsung must have really blocked it. ODIN is the only way to do this now.

Samsung completely removed this feature... Cannot find fw on the server. This feature is over. The only way is ODIN or something paid. Restrictions, restrictions, restrictions everywhere......
This really sucks since Odin does not completely restore everything.
After having the bluetooth share problem come up on my phone due to max bluetooth connections (I managed to successfully root the phone and delete the entries to get it working again the last time on S5) I tried again to root my phone which was unsuccessful and messed it up. After trying a few times to get the correct ROM which is hard to get as theres nowhere official to get it from (that I know of) and downloading is slow. Now its in boot loop. Spent time for 3 days running to sort out this issue and now they've completely taken out the potential way to solve it. I guess on my next upgrade I'll look into other options, to think they haven't solved the bluetooth share issue after all this time I think is just crazy.
So why samsung is not focus on this issue and does not try to solve ....and in other side samsung kies say this device not supported and samsung smart switch says unsupported device so what is this ??both are made by samsung and this type of error faces many many users in the world and you can see a lots of video on you tube but there is no any appropriate answer
This move is absolutely against developers who try to use androids more than just what Samsung intends them to. Definitely not satisfied, it was my only way of recovery because my old backups don't work because of frequent updates.

No device "initialization" tab on Smart Switch? > BUT ODIN STILL WORKS
Hello everyone;
I found this thread a few hours ago, when I was trying to fix my Samsung phone.
I just want to confirm that flashing stock ROM with Odin works even if you have the "“An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the emergency recovery function in the Smartswitch PC Software”" screen.

bypass frp

SM-G930W8 cannot get past this crap. 7.0 nougat
have tried a ton of solutions posted all over and nothing works.
i don't have a bluetooth headset first of.
second it won't allow me to use bluetooth in a call with realterm. give me message can't use in this call.
so i saw that i could downgrade to an older version however that gives me an error on the phone in download something about fw version.
i figured this is because it was at the latest version of the bootloader from my reading.
currently was able to downgrade only to G930W8VLS3BRA2 version
apparently i need to go back to G930W8VLU2BQH1 but i can't
how can i downgrade to a firmware that will allow me to open up something to get this frp removed.
thanks in advance for any help.
btw this is not a stolen phone in case anyone is thinking this.
I bought it from someone on kijiji with a broken screen.
i fixed the screen and was presented with this.
I took it to fido and they said it is not blacklisted imei and i can use it if i get it going again....

I don't even under stand why I'm getting this frp issue I had this phone for 2 years and set up with my Google account my child attempted to root it and it got stuck in a bootloop so I had to reset it. Now I can't get in it. It's a sprint s7 I tried the headset thing with 2 different Bluetooth sets managed to hook up to Bluetooth hook up to Wi-Fi but I cannot get the headset to make any screen pop up I did manage to get on the internet but it will not allow me to download anything I'm wondering if they blocked this way of doing this

S7 Edge Bricked

Hi, my SM-G935FD has been acting weird lately, auto reboot and massive hanging issue. Thus i decided to do a factory reset. To my surprise, the factory reset was unable to complete!
It shows error E: format_volume: make ext4 failed on /dev/block/platform/155a0000.ufs/by-name/USERDATA with 1(I/O error)
Now i cant do anything with my phone, i tried to flash using odin with various stock, but it stucks at system.img. I cant do a custom rom flash either because FRP Lock is ON.
Any experts out there able to provide with some help and your expertise?
Your help is greatly appreciated!

I/O error most likely means the internal storage has failed, to be sure use samfirm to download the latest firmware for your device. Check the binary nature box to get the full firmware and flash with odin.

Bricked Phone - Failed to mount system error & FRP lock.

Hi all 0/
I'm creating this post because well I have a bricked phone (I know, another bricked phone thread) and am asking if anybody can help or point me in the directions of help.
P
The Problem
So my phone failed to install the latest security update that was released in September; just gave me the update failed error on reboot. I ignored this for a month as it didn't bother me but it started to get progressively more buggy, random crashes then random restarts then google play services just stopped working. This point I looked into it and the internet told me to use smartswitch to apply the update (which I assumed to be the problem at the time). Smartswitch couldn't update it which through it into emergency recovery mode. Smartswitch was then blocked by FRP lock when I tried to use emergency recovery mode.
I then tried by use Odin to flash stock firmware, which FRP lock blocked. Now i'm stuck as I can't flash anything with odin or use smartswitch so am stuck with either download mode of emergency recovery page.
I have extracted and reflashed all the sys.img flash expect system which has allowed me to boot to recovery but have the error
DM verity failed
E/ failed to mount system (invalid argument)
All the fixes for dm verity failed system, frp lock etc don't work as i think i have a combination of problems
Neither have I found a post that describes this problem anywhere
Thank you very much for reading

The fpr lock isn't supposed to block you from installing official factory firmware. But it has to be the exact firmware. It should install and then ask for your gmail

That's what I thought, but when I've tried to use smart switch it blocks me, and every version of firmware I've found with odin it blocks. How can I find out which firmware my phone was on before it bricked its self? or do you think its a case of trying many?
assuming smartswitch is unable to find the firmware that i need is there any way of telling it which version to flash?

Smartswitch can't flash it because whatever crapped out changed the device ID or some info it looks to for authentication. I had that happen once. After a fw flash my phone changed from SM-G928W8 to G928F and smart switch wouldn't touch it. So what I had to do was find the exact match, you need to know what carrier your phone came from to get the model for firmware, like t mobile or Verizon, and then get that version, I think nougat or mm would work but our device shipped with mm. Odin will work but it the fw has to match the device. Then once it boots your gmail info is needed.

Okay I think I understand, so i need the exact firmware it was on before it crapped out, otherwise it will think i'm trying to flash new firmware an frp lock stops it right? My phone came unlocked in the UK., will i just have to try many different versions in hope one works?
Noob question, what does fw flash stand for?
Thanks so much for answering my questions : )
