Same as this root method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-s7-edge/how-to/root-available-t3411650

Is there a method yet that doesn't use the engineering bootloader?

I wish, engineering BL has pretty bad battery life and has a decent amount of stutters. The only saving grace is now a days root isn't as crucial (at least IMO) because of all the theming options and Good Lock ect.

Root coming!

For those that did not see, Beanstown is working on the root for us, as posted in the bounty thread. He hopes to have it done by tonight. If your able, please send him some monetary love so he can get this beautiful tablet and develop for us. Thanks!

So any media purchased in media hub will still be accessible, and watchon will still work? Because when I rooted my old note 8, those quit working, meaning I never got to enjoy the watchon credit I got with it, as it expired.

Awesome!
It seems like someone in the Note 3 forum has a way to root with knox at 0x0. Hopefully that will also be an option in the future for this!

Unlocked bootloader? I'm excited again

I can confirm that the unlock is real.
It should be noted that users should NEVER EVER get or take another update from Amazon. This usually involves an upgrade to the "aboot" partition which will IMMEDIATELY RELOCK the device.
Once the device is unlocked several key changes take place in the functionality:
- The device no longer checks for signatures on recovery or boot images. This would allow for custom recovery and the potential for full AOSP ROMs.
- If powered on with both volume buttons pressed, fastboot mode is started for easier recovery of the device.
The unlock, may only apply to certain versions of the OS (*.3.2.1 etc). Some tests for downgrading and then running the exploit need to happen over the weekend and I'm sure that's why you don't see this released yet.
Also, there is probably going to be a fee to unlock, that's a new business model for devs to still make some money off unlock exploits while keeping that exploit from being patched by the OEMs.

This is old news . Did you happen to look at the date of this quote ? I believe the majority of us have been waiting for this release around six weeks or something like that
Sorry. I just came across it.. did not venture in hdx land for a bit. Well it seems also there are legal issues as well but if it's actually in existence wick seems to be case it can somehow slip out as all information does eventually

I will gladly pay a nominal fee.
FireOS is pretty crappy once you actually start using the device with google play store... Apps (mostly games) constantly crash due to memory issues that i know are because of the OS. How can my HTC One M7 have ~ 900MB ram available at idle when the HDX has ~300 at idle... No phone services are even running? Oh wait, all the crap amazon services are and are so tied in with the OS they are basically impossible to stop/remove without bricking the device...
I can't wait for un-locked boot loader and some real android.... :victory:

I am very surprised that these 2 devices are not unlocked by now and more popular. They are cheap and very powerful for what you get.
I hope I can get my unit working soon.

I wonder until now, is there any case that after several years (e.g. 3-4yrs) since the day a device was release, it has not been unlocked?

So is everyone just manually installing all their apps and redoing all their settings? Damn, it'll take me days! Google doesn't do a great job of restoring apps on new phones like Apple.
Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk
On the s6 we rooted just by repacking the ramdisk with some scripts to install busybox and superuser and then flashing in Odin. I'm not sure if that's how it works here too but I may give it a shot.

About 10 minutes
If you use Kingroot, I'm sure it will happen soon, I personally have not seen one device that Kingroot can't handle. You may just have to do it a couple of times.
Don't use chrome to download it detects this as virus or a bad file. They don't want you to root android phones.

Not everyone knows that. There are people that got the S7 that haven't had a phone with Samsung Pay so I like to let people know that there is that negative aspect of rooting. And there are plenty of people who use Tap and Pay. You don't have to be an ass to me or anyone else here.

Face unlock

Is face unlock not supported on the S7 Edge? I've searched and nothing seems to address this question. Is this only a Nexus feature because I had it on my Nexus 5.
Thanks

Not really interested in rooting just to restore a function that should be there in the first place. What reason could they have for not including it?
Do any Samsung products have face unlock? I checked with T-Mobile and as far as the rep knows it is something with Samsung.

System wide themes

Hello, I have a Galaxy S7, but looking to ditch Samsung in the future. Do Nexus phones or Nougat in general support system wide themes without root like the Galaxy line?

It's much simpler and less invasive on a nexus than a Samsung. Rooting is a nobrainer.
