Hi guys,
Been a while since I posted here. Bought my phone 910c brand new when it came out and just rooted it so I could modify the DPI. I still have the stock rom etc as I prefer to have stability.
Now I'm sort of getting bored still on KitKat and want to update the firmware.
First step I took was to make the phone "official" in wanam and then download the update ota. This didn't work as there was an android with belly open and triangle.
Now I'm thinking I will update via Pc Samsung kies. Will this work? And will I still have root access to change the DPI or do I need to reroot afterwards?
Thanks.
Updated via kies last night then had to root again.
Does anyone know how I can change the DPI for the stock apps back to 640?
Since I'm on stock rom xposed is not recommended for marshmallow?
One sure and safe way to update your firmware is via PC Odin. Just download your official firmware from Samfirmware website. MM is best in my opinion.
You can root your phone afterwards and install Xposed by Wanam, not the official Xposed zip file.

Hi, I am new to rooting the android. I tried looking around but couldn't find a clear guide.
I am looking on how to update my verizon Galaxy Note 3 that's on version 4.3 MJ7 (Hyperdrive RLS4 rom, model N900V) while preserving the root. Or would I have to loose root for a while and then re-root? Ultimately I am looking to install the newest Hyperdrive rom, but I believe I would have to update the stock firmware first?
Would be great to get some tips on how to do this. Thanks!

hello,
I have the 910F variant with CF AUTO ROOT installed. original stock rom.
I would like to install an OTA update but can't do that with root.
Can I some how unroot the device WITHOUT loosing anything important ?
Will the OTA update work then?
After the all process is done can I still root it regulary with cf auto root?
regards
You have to flash stock rom with odin, last week i messed rom so i installed the stock over it and i didnt lose any of my info, i guess it should be the same with you, after you can update and apply root again

Hi,
i want to buy a new note 4 - the version 910f.
If i update the new phone with stock 4.4.4 rom to the latest 5.1.1 - will there be any problem if i want to install root or anything like this later on? Can i still install custom roms?
I want to now this, becqause if i update my new amazon fire 7 (2015) to latest stock 5.1.1 rom - there is no chance to start recovery anymore for installing custom rom. With only 5.0.1 all is good and i can install custom rom with recovery.
Is there a similar problem with note 4 or can i install latest stock rom and won´t get any problems later?
Only thing i found is that i can´t go back to 4.4.4 when installing 5.1.1? And i can´t go back to 5 when i´m installaing marshmallow because of changing partitions size?
So if i go to stock 5.1.1 it doesn´t matter, because i don´t want to use 4.4.4 and i can still use all stock roms and change to marshmallow later?

No problem if you don't plan to use 4.4.4. Note that if you update to latest 5.1.1
>your bootloader will be locked you can't go back to previous roms or use custom roms which are based on earlier versions such as 4.4.4 custom roms or 5.0.1 custom roms.
>you can still root your phone install custom recovery and install custom roms which have newer bootloaders. However rooting 5.1.1 is bit different because with android 5.1.1 there is an extra security layer in the kernel which detects and stops device from being rooted you need a "permissive kernel" to root 5.1.1. And then you can do whatever you like.
Would it be a better decision to stay on 5.0.1 for the moment and later install 5.1.1 custom rom? To not loose unlocked bootloader?
And one more question: if I deactivate bloatware in application setting off stock rom, is bloatware complete deactivated or is it still running in the background somehow?

You can install 5.1.1 with these bootloaders coj3, coi3, pok1 , coh4 these are safe and won't lock your bootloader. i'd recommend 5.1.1 over 5.0.1 because the difference is day and night in long term use (when u have many apps) 5.1.1 is much smoother and better battery life just don't install coj5 or newer bootloaders. I don't use custom roms because in my experience stock rom is the best custom roms have some bugs etc. If you deactivate bloatware in application settings then its no more running in background.
OK, thank you. But so I should deactivate ota updates and flash latest stock update with Odin, so that I don't get latest locked bootloader?
How can i update to latest 5.1.1 update and keeping the (old) unlocked bootloader?
Do i have to donwload version from smamobile and flash with odin? How can i disallow to update bootloader too?
And if i update with ota - i will get latest (locked) bootlader automatically - no chance anymore to remove it?
-----------------------------
I don´t want to root my phone the first time (because of knox) but later on i maybe want to root too.

There is no way to be sure if the older bootloader will work with latest 5.1.1 rom. So its better to stick with the bootloader which comes with the rom and yes if you update with OTA you will get latest 5.1.1 and bootloader automatically. Just go to sammobile and download 5.1.1 with COJ3, COi3, or POK1 (nordic countries). and Flash with odin.
Hi everyone, I've got a Galaxy S5 on Fido Canada which recently got the marshmallow update, and I want to get the OTA update. I'm on stock ROM but rooted with busybox, xposed, link2sd, UPSM manager, MW manager and build.prop mods all without a custom recovery and I want to return my system status to official so I can get the OTA update. I know I can use Wanam xposed to set the status to official but I'm wondering if the update would screw up my phone due to my xposed version's incompatibility with marshmallow. Is it safe to use Wanam to get the update, will the new ROM remove xposed from my phone or will it brick my phone? I don't know how to remove link2sd's mountscripts, will they cause a problem in the update or will they automatically get deleted? my phone works good now but I want to know how to do it right before I touch anything. What is the best way to go about this? BTW I'm currently on kitkat
Hi, I meant SGH-i337 in the title.
I beleive I posted this in the completely wrong phone section last time, so I am posting this here.
My device model is the SGH-I337. I downloaded Odin version 3.12.3, downloaded the official drivers for the Samsung S4 USB, but I can't seem to find stock Lollipop 5.0.1. SamMobile only gives the 4.x versions for some reason. I started following the below link for a method to at least flash an older firmware to my phone, but I want to flash stock Lollipop. Is there even a way to get Lollipop back without root?

I was able to downgrade, but I still need an official stock 5.0.1 firmware. My virus protection says towelroot is a virus, so I don't want to go that route. If I do an OTA upgrade after I flash the old firmware from the above link, will it brick my phone? It's rootable NB1 ROM. I already tried to install the stock 4.x firmware from SamMobile, but that doesn't work, so it seems I need stock Lollipop.
AT&T never released a stock lollipop firmware that can be flashed with Odin. All at&t updates were released ota.

Hi I am running goldeneye custom rom on my i-337 5.0.1 with ok2 kernel. If you go to that forum thread in development, you will find very detailed instructions to get att s4 to 5.0.1 stock. As a side note I can assure you if you just download towel root on your phone, install and run there is no virus of any sort. Make sure you download from towelroot .com
On second look through I don't think there is stock 5.0.1 using safestrap....
