Weird thing happened to me yesterday while restoring backup on TWRP - Mate 8 General

Yesterday I ran into a problem with my mate 8 that it almost unleashed my inner thermonuclear gamma rage grey hulk, for whatever reason I was trying to restore a back up I had on TWRP, I hit restore, reboot and the device just went into bootloop for what seemed like forever, I tried every button combination possible to reenter TWRP to no avail.
Every and each time I tried it kept sending me to the chinese language screen which was driving me insane, now mind I've been rooting for a years now and out of all the years this is the 2nd time I've had a issue with a device (1st device was a OnePlus 2 which met it's demise when I unleashed my inner Kratos and smashed into probably 100 pieces, I know I shouldn't have but I spent probably 8-9 hours online trying to fix it, combing through XDA, Google and Youtube and could not find a solution for it, may it rest in peace OP2RIP)
Now I'll be honest, my patience has been a little thin as of late so when my Mate 8 decided on taking a crap on itself I honestly did not want to comb over Google or XDA for hours for a solution lol honestly now that I'm getting older my patience is not what it used to be. So I just kept trying every combination possible to get back into TWRP till at one point I was literally boiling, staring at the phone and said to myself "motherf&$ker if you don't boot up here, I'm going to unleash fire and brimstone!!" and finally after trying volume up, volume down and power button it booted into TWRP again and was able to restore my back up. I have absolutely have no idea how or why it happened, I think the gods were on my side and decided to throw me a bone and said "lets give this old man a break"..
And that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Peace!

Looking for Boot Animation - Dancing Droid (fresh)

First thank you to this site for hours of research and tinkering advice on my phone. And also to flipzmode for such a cool and easy way to break into the ROM world. I've loaded Fresh 2.4 for my HTC Hero and love it.
.......My 2 year old LOVES the boot animation of the dancing droid. Is there someone that could point me to a file I could play from my phone instead of rebooting it several times per day?
TIA
Travis
rebooting your phone several times a day might do it good - it'll keep the OS from getting bogged down
Besides that, a fast, cheap and easy method of getting the phone to display the animation is just to record with it a camera when you boot it up, then just copy the file over and play the thing in a video player..
sure it's very low tech, but unless someone's willing to put the effort in for you then i doubt you're gonna get it perfect, and this method can be done in 2 minutes,

Thank you Gene!
This is why I love forums. You have just made the cutest little man ever very happy

Thanks Gene!
You've also made a three year old very happy.

Huawei s7 slim wins... my weekend with Nook color, Acer A500 and the new S7 slim

I will revisit this soon with a full comparison... but in the end I kept the s7 slim
in the end..the a500 is going back....the nook color is going back...and of all three that I tried over the weekend...I am actually keeping the s7 slim. The screen though not as bright had much deeper colors and was much crisper. The UI is fantastic and I didn't get all of the choppiness and lag that was present on web pages and videos on the a500.
the really cool thing about the a500 is that usb port...I could see many people using that for photography etc...but I do caution you...compared to other screen side by side the a500 just didn't display depth and color well at all.
I also had some issues with wacky things like That wifi issue some are having is really odd...mine may have been doing it as well ..all I know is the screen kept waking...over an hour period just sitting there it would occasionally wake ..then sleep..then wake...about every 10 minutes or so it would wake to the lockscreen for 5 minutes.
The external sd card cannot be read via a computer, you have to remove it and add etc via a reader
Stupid Short power cord, and the lack of USB charging of the unit
Ridiculously bad about finger prints and smudges (I know I know..a screen protector would help here..but this was just out of the box comparison of the three)
I am sure some of the issue with the a500 will be solved over time if the Devs can get a working recovery on it.
All three were ridiculously easy to root...but there really is no good recovery option for the a500 or s7 slim yet. I am sure this will be solved over time.
The rooted nook had a real "neato" factor..but hardly practical for my use. After an hour or two navigating through the menus and hitting softkeys and downloading some apps I knew it would be going back.
Well...I am torn now...I figured out how to fully root 1.2 on the Nook and I have to say...this thing rocks!!!!!
Wish I had read this first
Rooting the NC 1.2 is basically worthless. I spent most of a day getting a CM7 mod running on it, and while this is kind of cool, its underpowered compared to a huawei out of the box. The only benefit that I found when rooting / flashing the NC, is that its really easy to restore to stock. I have another 10 days or so to return it, but I've basically come to the decision that the S7 seems well worth an extra $50. You mention the lack of a good recovery option... does this mean the S7 slim is easy to brick?
I'm new to rooting android devices... and I don't really want a $300 paperweight.
Well...I jacked with mine for 2 weeks and didn't brick it...I was always able to get into the system settings menu and restore it.
It is possible though...with lack of a recovery there is no way to run custom roms etc ...
the nook was cool but I couldn't get everything working. I almost changed my mind and kept the nook... but in the end I actually took all 3 back. I found that I was doing far tooo much work to make any one of the three operate the way I wanted.
The s7 and the iconia have no recovery option...and there doesn't seem to be much development
I will give it a few months and see what else is out there and what progress has been made in development
Actually I have the nook and will return the slim tommorow to best buy.
Nook has the best display from every viewing angle and tons of developers (I run with cyanogenmod 7.0.3) fully stable no problem whatsoever. And with the new nook apps I can read magazine now.
the Slim 7 has problem from the start
1. google account (like market) cant connect to the server with wifi and the work around you need to factory reset.
2. You cant install any 3rd party launcher without soft bricking the device after reboot.
3. the speaker keep making chirp sound whenever you touch the screen or home, setting and back button.
4. the stock launcher eat so much memory, only set in landscape mode and so buggy.
Unless someone start developing a custom rom the s7 not ready for primetime.
i have to admit it has killer hardware specs.

R.I.P GS2

***UPDATE***
So switched it on, running a KF3 base with KE7 modem....
Now need to upgrade to some villainrom magic lets get my phone back
Don't you love a happy ending?
lol
***OLD UPDATE***
So a quick update to you guys who have been oh so supportive!
Just received a brand new SGS2 this morning replaced without questions from o2...
Now im giving it its first charge so haven't switched it on yet but a bit disappointed i lost all my old stuff
Anyways, will post more details as and when to see how the later batch measures up against the first...should be interesting
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My GS2 was one of the best around...bought on release day it experienced rooting since birth and has run villainrom since with not even the slightest of slight hiccups! Battery life was always measured in days rather than hours and never experienced any of the "banding" "yellow tint" or "random reboots" many people have faced....i loved my phone....and now its dead
Was in the cinema watching a film, got my phone out at the end and nothing.
nada
not even a blink from the BLN
The phone wasn't overly hot in any way (though it did smell like liquorice) and I thought, "ahh, deep sleep issue, undervolting too much!!"
Battery out, battery in, switch on!
Nope
Battery dead?
Got home to stick it on AC
Nothing
My heart died
Frantic searches over the net reminded me of the jig i bought
Stuck that up its arse...
Nothing
Not even a peep
Tried numerous button combinations to no avail...
Finally bit the bullet and sent it in for repair
Complete with custom boot (bios animation), custom rom(VR3.0), custom kernel (Ninphet 2.0.5), custom theme (JKay + various tweaks)
I doubt they will be able to bring it back to life to see that it was rooted, even if they do I would pay for the repair, but yeah....that's life :'(

That's how i felt when i bought SGS1 and tried to root it with z4root.
It was stuck at the z4root screen obtaining root for about 1 hour and as a
noob then it didn't cross my mind to pull the battery out afraid of something
wrong will happen.I was ready to throw it to the garbage.
Thank god someone helped me and my sgs1 still lives

OMG bro u must be hurted a lot
My microSD card died 2 days ago. Brought it to Samsung and got the mainboard replaced, now it's working like a doll.
This makes you think about how something can just die in a instant, we need to treasure every moment we have with our GS2s. RIP
i know i feel the pain of phones dying on you. i had my xperia x10 and one of the best phones i loved. i started facing reboots & random shutdown and freezing issues. i tried to do my best to hold myself then 1 day it didn't wanna work with me and wouldn't turn on so i got angry and smashed the SOB down to the ground and guess what?? nothing broke no lcd digitizer no screen no nothing but had no pulse. i took it to its hospital (wireless repair shop), they tried to jumpstart its heart pushing to his chest (motherboard) with pumps and kept saying CLEAR, CLEAR :|. still didn't work and i knew it died on me. i was upset but then this new hot chick (sgs2) came around the block and i was like whoaa this chick is hott and has all the new fashion trends. finally got it and now we're dating (sgs2) and me. obiviously my wife is jealous but she's happy also . anyways thats my story from transition from x10 to sgs2..ENJOY
I dropped my iPhone in the toilet one time while I was watching YouTube haha. Classic

My advice? backup everything...now...before no amount of ass-jiggin can wake her up...
sad bro real sad R.I.P

[Q] Just wondering how many of us have a dead N7???

Just wondering if this is something of a user fault from bad/incorrect flashing? or hardware/software from ASUS/Google problems.
If you have a dead N7 from whatever reason other than dropping it or dunking it in water. Please respond, perhaps if there is a significant number of people with problems not caused by physical or water damage. We can with the help of some legal advisors bring this to the attention of ASUS/Google and they might change their minds and do something about all of us???
My died after 5.0.1 OTA update. It booted without problem and worked pretty bad and I rebooted it few times and after some time it didn't booted any more. Recovery worked but I could not unlock bootloader. Luckily I had warranty for one more month and they switched motherboard free of charge. And few hours ago I updated to 5.1.1 (ota) and it works great now (I have three users and there is just small lag when switching between them). Hope it will stay like that.
Mine just keeps rebooting after the Google title and then it gets these lines running on a blank screen then shuts off.

No I didn't know that.
Do I use NRT and just revert back to 4.4 or something?

I'd try that first, unless you have a known good backup stored on device (you should, if not now is a good time to start the habit.)
Cool I'll mess around with it. Thanks!

Np. If its still broken after post more info and it can be figured out.
My sister's N7 is a refurbished model and it has constantly been giving her problems, it would always after a month or so of usage would reboot and bootloop. I would have to boot into recovery and wipe cache or factory reset or even flash the stock image again to get it working. I just got back from being away and its now completely dead, won't even charge. It was running stock 5.1

Sounds like failed memory, or memory controller, by the symptoms of reboots after a month that were fixed by a wipe and reinstall. Once it got to a certain level of storage usage it failed, you wiped, and the cycle repeated. Unfortunately it is probably dead. The good news is you can pick up a replacement motherboard for a very reasonable price on eBay.
Update!
So for my issue, it was the battery.
First, I tried to flash the stock image. Still restarted and got the lines. It drove me nuts!
Something inside me said to order a new battery from amazon for $20.00.
I did that, installed the new battery, flashed, and my nexus 7 is back in action. For those that are going through the fuzzy lines and restarting issue, you guys might want to try that. Worked out for me. Cheers!
Edit: I'm not sure if I would like to go back to updating all the way to 5.1 yet. But 4.1 works for me. [emoji28]
im on my 3rd
today at $165 per piece its a joke its the best tablet you can get under $200. I like to keep a tablet with me at all times because of the nature of my work. and this fits in my pocket assuming a don't have a case. I find the note for a little too small to work on. it's a great device for the money and I'll keep buying them as long as I keep breaking them or they keep dying for something else this size comes on the market at this price. my only real gripe is that the graphics abilities if these devices are a little weak.

I wish I did the same, I let my N7 update to 5.1.1 and its so slow, even removed many apps like "Facebook" and tweaked everything. I dont think the 1st generation N7 is up to par with 5.1.1. Might have to unlocked and downgrade to 4.4.4....

Resurrecting my 6P

Hey! Since this whole pandemic I've had way more time on my hands and managed to swap the battery out of my old 6P. I've had an iPhone for the past 4 years and been out of the loop, anyone care to assist on what my next steps should be? I see things have changed. I have an unlocked bootloader, not yet rooted 6P that was rocking CM I believe before it gave out, thanks for any help!
Similar situation
Finished off my 6p's screen at the end of last year and a friend gave me his iphone 6s. Before that I'd always thought the iphone shade was just haters being haters, but damn was I wrong. They do EVERYTHING in the UI wrong. Like they eschew anything out there that is common so they can keep being "innovators", but by doing so they are just refusing to accept the things that make sense and therefore get used. So now I hate iphones and can't get people to listen long enough to all the reasons. Maybe it's time for an infographic.
Anyway, I love this 6p, it's always been badass. Prolly gonna replace it with a 4a if they ever come out, but til then I'm just glad to have a smartphone again.
I put [ROM][UNOFFICIAL] LineageOS 17.1 for Nexus 6P (angler) on there and it's going alright so far. There is a bit of stutter and the new 3600mAh battery drained faster than I'd hope, but it's day 1 and I saw a mention of rom's getting smoother after some time??? So I'm gonna give it another couple days then load AOSP since that's what I usually run and might have better performance.
If you go for lineage and decide to add Magisk, try booting into the rom and finishing setup before loading magisk. I seemed to kill my vendor partition somehow and it might have been due to flashing rom->gapps->magisk all in one. I don't know **** though, just saw a comment that matched my experience.
Exactly the ROM I was looking at and I will take precaution, thanks. Seems while trying to install TWRP, and going thru the process I am stuck on the Android animation staying at colors looping. I'll have to dig around for a fix before I can download some ROMS and test this new battery.
