Can't boot to custom rom - Zenfone 2 Laser Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm currently on lollipop stock firmware with phone rooted and bootloader unlocked. I have also flashed latest Twrp recovey.
But here is the problem, i downloaded Resurrection remix latest version and tried to flash it, but error 7 came up. I bypassed this error by editing the updater script ( i followed a tutorial ). Now when i flashed the rom it says its sucessful but when I select boot to system it goes to fastboot mode. Im a noob so please dont be harsh to me.
PLEASE HELP ME FAST
THANKS

You still need to upgrade to stock MM before flashing RR M.

No, but to be sure go to fastboot the type:
fastboot oem device-info
if you see this -->> (bootloader)Device unlocked: true
then you are still unlocked.

Thanks man it worked and i am able to flash Resurection remix.
Thanks a lot again

Glad I was able to help. Warning, flashing can be addictive! And make sure to have a nandroid back-up.

WRT the original post, I tried the same procedure but after having errors i flashed the twrp with adb through cmd:fastboot flash boot boot.img . And now it is showing no OS available and shows that it is not rooted in the twrp recovery. Now it is still not flashing the rom and showing error and now i have no idea what to do. So, please give me instructions on how to repair my asus zenfone 2 laser ze550kl. I did all this on MM.

If you have TWRP 3025 then you can flash any custom ROM. Try to redownload the ROM, maybe it's just a bad download. What error did you see?

Strange problem with Re-Locking bootloader

Hi guyz, i've a little problem here.
I've to Lock my bootloader. Now i did it several times, with different tools too. Now:
If i use correct droidboot version (lollipop one) and flash it, the bootloader is not (secure), so not locked.
But if i try with a tool and it flashes the KK fastboot, it works, it's relocked.
Can you tell me why? Thanks!

Seems the Lollipop fastboot doesn't have the signature check that kitkat fastboot has.
But, even you can flash custom files with locked bootloader and lollipop fastboot, the system don't boot, stucks at USB logo, so it means the bootloader is locked.

Yes, I tested in my phone, flashed custom kernel with locked bootloader and fastboot from Lollipop .87, flash sucessfully, but when I try to boot... USB logo.
Only KitKat fastboot has signature check.

Yes, same on my device. I think it's normal.
Yes, fastboot mode of lollipop firmware on ZenFone 5 / 6 is able to flash custom kernel / recovery, but it won't boot until bootloader unlocked.

What is that
If you want to flash a custom rom, you don't need to unlock bootloader for it.
You can flash custom recovery using fastboot mode, after which you can install custom roms.

I did the same method as you are telling. I was able to install twrp through fastboot successfully(without unlock the bootloader) and installed custom rom and gapps successfully too. But when I reboot my device after installation I stuck in boot logo every time. I waited more than 30mins but nothing happened. No matter which rom I tried but I had to face the same problem ?. I don't know how to get rid of this issue.
And also my twrp showing an error which is -failed to mount/factory (invalid argument).
I think this is the reason why I'm facing bootloop.

I also unlocked mine using the same method that you have used. And successfully unlocked my bootloader. Then I installed twrp using fastboot. But my twrp showing an error which is -failed to mount/factory (invalid argument).
Then I successfully installed custom rom and gapps ( I wiped cache after installation) but when I reboot my phone I stuck in boot logo. I waited more than 30mins but nothing happened.
I tried so many roms but had to face same problem.
Is the twrp errors the reason of my bootloop issue??

Refer to this asus zentalk link.
flash twrp again and make sure to keep your volume down button pressed before entering the "FASTBOOT REBOOT" command.
Clear ur data after flashing twrp, flash trustzone fix also if you're getting error 7, install ur desired custom rom. It should work!!
I did the same a couple of days ago, it worked for me.

To install ROM you need a unlocked bootloader , screw twrp for now.

[ZE500KL] Long wait after 'fastboot boot boot.img'

After a failed root I've recieved the error ' Can't load invalid boot image ' . I tried booting ' boot.img ' . That didn't work . After I tried booting it I got to the ' Asus , In Search Of Incredible ' waiting screen . After that , nothing else happened , and it kept loading . Will it load eventually or is it not working ?

I attempted to root it using this : https://forum.xda-developers.com/ze...guide-marshmallow-root-guide-ze500kl-t3380461
Try to flash the latest twrp3025 image found on this forum in fastboot mode, if you follow the steps correctly, your're bootloader should be unlocked. Then try to boot in twrp/recovery and flash any custom ROM, 13/14 based.
Edit: Can you access stock recovery?
Can you flash TWRP without your device rooted ?

I doubt I can acces that .
You can flash twrp as long as your bootloader is unlocked. Go tk fastboot and type
fastboot oem device-info
If you see "Device unlocked: true" it means bootloader is unlocked!
I'll try and unlock it now
I unlocked it . What now ?
After unlocking it , the error disappeared , but I'm still stuck in the Asus logo loading screen
Flash the latest twrp, custom ROM and GApps.
---------- Post added at 20:11 ---------- Previous post was at 20:05 ----------
I think you dont have a ROM installed that's why its stuck in asus logo. So you need to flash a ROM
I am downloading the latest firmware ATM and I am going to flash it . What is GApps tho ?
If you want to flash stock ROM(from asus website) you wont need GApps. You need to be in fastboot if you want to flash stock ROM, but I can't help you since I never revert to stock before. But there are many guides here for flashing stock, be sure to read the OP Thread and the comments for more info.
The ' Android is Starting ' thing popped up and I'm freaking out that it might work finnaly ..
It worked ! Thanks alot dude !
Congrats in bringing your phone back to life. Haha

I soft bricked my phone

I wanted to unlock the bootloader and flash a custom rom, but I followed the wrong guide. I am or was running A2017U build 27 but I followed a guide for A2017G, here https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/how-to/guide-install-twrp-unlock-bl-flash-t3517379.
My phone is stuck at the ZTE logo screen and will not proceed despite using TWRP to flash the backup image. Am I screwed?

If you still able to boot to TWRP, I recommend you flashing my B29 Bootstack + StockSystem from here : B29 Files Click Here , then you can flah Stock Recovery you'll be up and running again, i'll be uploading TWRP Flashable B29 recovery Here is the Stock Recovery Flashable Zip CLICK HERE ... YOU CAN UNLOCK using B20 Official ZIP + B20fastboot.zip (Official).
So here Steps:
1- Flash B29 Bootstack + StockSystem
2- Flash Stock Recovery
3- You'll have you device back and running
DrakenFX, thank you. Flashing the bootstack and stocksystem got me in working order. $20 coming your way as promised. Don't drink and flash folks. Lesson learned.

you don't have to man, i'm just glad i'm here to help other. send me you hangouts via PM , i'll help you getting Unlock Bootloader before N get here,
Thanks I appreciate that.
***EDIT*** This was caused by the fastboot I had on my PC. Rebooting into Linux and using that fastboot worked fine.
I was able to downgrade to B20, however, flashing your P996A01B20Fastboot_ssl.zip file did not allow me to unlock the bootloader. After rebooting, going into the bootloader menu, and running "fastboot oem unlock" does nothing nor does "fastboot devices" see any device. Do you have any ideas why it is not working?
To be clear, when I ran the P996A01B20Fastboot_ssl.zip from stock recovery it said,
"script succeeded: result was [1.0000000] Install from SD card complete."

relocking bootloader

Hi,
I am having a problem trying to relock my bootloader.
i am selling my g4, so needed to remove my custom rom, flash stock and relock my bootloader.
I downloaded and flashed via twrp the stock 8.1 ROM on the g4 plus page. ( stock rom in twrp format)
That went fine.
Then I booted into fastboot , and entered fastboot lock command fastboot oem lock
It said the android image was not valid?
So I then entered fastboot flashing lock
it rebooted fine to the stock android , but now the bootloader warning says ''your device has loaded a different operating system'', and thens boots 8.1.
DO you think I should go back anf flash stock rom ( not a twrp flashable version), using fastboot commands, ending with 'fastboot oem lock' ?
Just dont want to brick it, as it is now sold!
Many Thanks for any help
pootler
P.S. the TWRP I am using is a custom one ( i think )

THanks for the reply.
Strange, thought I had already updated this
I went back to stock firmware and decided to flash with fastboot all individual files.
At some point, I got the same ''verification failed' but the command line suggested flashing system, boot, and ( something else, cant remember) again.
i did this this, and this time, no errors occured, and I had a complete install, with a locked bootloader, and no bootloader warning screen.!
Yay - result
Thanks again for your advice - I will remember it for the future.
