Native Call Recording? - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm a new Moto user, coming from using Samsung phones exclusively. I was checking my list of things I'm missing from using my rooted Samsung phones that I've come to really depend on and what I can live without using my new MXPE. I'm really liking this phone so far but I do miss having native call recording on my Note 5 (which I sold). I'd rather not have to use a separate app for this, having it inside my phone's dialer like I had on my Note 5 was brilliant and extremely useful.
I'm unlocked, rooted and Xposed with GravityBox.
Is there an Xposed module that would work on this phone? Thanks for any assistance with this.

I use Drupe for a dialer replacement. Includes call blocking (missing on MXPE) call recording and quite a bit more.

Call Recorder by skvalex, along with AlsaMixer (ROOT) is what you'll want for a more seamless experience. Drupe is nice, but is a bit clunky for what you're looking to do. If you utilize AICP's Android N release, 11/28 is the most stable at the moment, you can get Call Blocking within it's Dialer. You do not need an xPosed module. Call Recorder will pop up a record bubble button you can move anywhere on your screen, and even set to only show during a call or auto-record, with cloud backup as well. It's a pretty nice setup if you need call recording.

I'll take a look at these options, thank you.

Is there any way to record the phone conversation on TP2?
Yes it's easy.
You can use the free cab file ACR (Automatic Call Recorder) available from these forums or the shareware Resco Voice Recorder. Both will record calls automatically but ACR has the advantage of giving you the choice after the call of keeping the recording or not. I also had to install mskip's 2 way recording Cab to enable my TP2 to record both sides of the conversation as it wasn't picking up the other party's voice, only the feedback through the microphone. It seems that some devices need this to be enabled. There are 2 versions of this Cab. One is the "plus" version that additionally inserts the option to record on the Call screen. These are also available in these forums.

Just found the post for the ACR Cab. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=536472
Thanks for the link buddy
ACR works flawlesly bothway on TP 2 (Unbranded TP2)
I can recommend VITO Audio Notes that worked flawlessly on HP 614c and now on TP2.
I also enjoy ACR but find a couple problems. It doesn't record every one of my calls for some reason, but I haven't paid attention enough to see if other things were going on with the phone to prevent a true recording.
Two other observations...
1. I have a ton of junk phone calls and voicemail checks that I need to go through and delete the recordings of.
2. Does anyone else feel a bit creepy going through your old phonecalls?

first of all go to options, and there you have to click on something that will require you to ask you "You want to save this call" after each call. There is a little pop UP....it's a very important file, if are required to keep up with phone call recording eg your girlfriend. I had the ACR, but now, I am using the build-in incall recorder. This doesn't auto record the calls, but give you an option if you want to record it, you have to each time start the recording by a little key build up in your menu, when you in call. so ACR is auto call, with an option to ask you each time if you want to save the call, and incall not auto.

Thanks. I didn't want to make it seem like it was a problem that I had all those junk calls. It's completely understandable. I guess I was just pointing it out because people might not realize how many worthless phone calls they make!

I concur. Listen this software saved my life twice. Once for a lie my bank tried to cover up and another for a car dealership lie.
People lie consistently... you need to protect yourself in this day and age.
I say video and audio record EVERYTHING.
all this crap about rights... what about our rights?
Please. I could care less about the debate... like ksm said.... Vito audio notes is an awesome piece of software. Now they just need to have it be a answering machine and it will be top notch.
Remember you read it here first.

Would anyone have an idea of how to map Rhodium Keyboard Controller to initiate the recording of a call rather than having to go through menus while on the call? I had this with Resco on my old Palm - but the current resco doesn't seem to have this ability unless perhaps there is some ARGUMENT that could be coded with the executable file to begin recording.
Like the other person - I was using ACR and loved the choice to save after every call - but the inability to sort through these calls quickly and play them was a problem and when multiple calls would come in - or conference calls - it seemed to loose track of which one it was recording.
Anyone found a solution?

On the fence, can you help me decide

I don't know about ideal but I have my own personal requirements.
1. Notifications for Text messages, Phone Calls and Emails. I don't use Facebook or Twitter anymore but I do understand lots of people still do so those would be important as well.
2. Ability to dismiss incoming calls or answer. I hate those bluetooth headsets so talking directly into the watch would be better for ME. Don't know how well that would work but if the call is important enough or private than have the ability to swap over to just the phone.
3. The screen is so small games really won't matter to me but the ability to go to Playstore and download various Apps would be ideal. Don't really know what I would really need on my watch as any Apps I use regularly I would rather see on my 5" screen.
4. Calendar with Notifications would be great as I could set dates and times on my phone and be alerted thru the watch.
5. Not much else is really required besides changing watch faces to different designs and the occasional trip to the internet on the fly with readable screens. Sometimes I need to google something and it would be great to be able to do this at random.
Currently I am looking at the SmartQ Z Watch and the ZGPAX S5 Smartwatch
I have had this watch for 2 days, comments as below:-
1. This works perfectly.
2. I haven't figured out how you can talk directly into the watch. I do not think this is possible yet although you can plug in a headset and has a built in microphone. With the updates coming in weekly I assume this might be possible through an update.
3. Playstore is not pre-installed. Anyways I do not think most of the apps would work in Playstore since they are not tailored for the screen size.
4. No problem with this either.
5. No inbuilt web browser but I assume you can install one, some of the custom roms has this I have read.

I have ZGPAX - they haven't released software for the notifications and call handling options, like the Galaxy Gear has... but it's a great device for sure!

I have zgpax.
Mine came with playstore preinstalled. Can run most ICS compatible applications, oddly though launchers ie Nova Launcher do not work. There is no home button anyway. Switching between programs involves using the back button a lot and switching from the home screen/watch launcher. ADW launcher works but every time the phone is turned on the clock launcher starts instead. Don't know how to switch default.
Google calendar is preinstalled.
I use MySMS to mirror text messages from my main phone, and use a prepaid sim with cheap data just for notifications, ie gmail, ebay.
Do not get SmartQ Z watch if running apps is important to you. It runs a MIPS cpu instead of an ARM cpu, and most apps will not run on MIPS by default.
ZGPAX is not rooted by default but can be very easily.
No volume buttons, volume is best controlled by quick volume profiles from notification tray. Four profiles are set by default, general, silent, meeting (vibrate mode), and outdoor (loud mode).
Only buttons are power and back. Menu button is soft button in notification tray next to clock.
Wifi reception has been excellent for something of this size, though understandably a little slowish.

Actually on the smartq z watch most apps excluding a lot of games work just fine without MIP compatibility or MIPS conversion . some have screen issues but that problem lies with any smartwatch .

Couple of questions for owners...

Coming from a moto x gen 1, my last touvhwiz experience was GS3, ready for a phablet if it comes with great screen, camera, and battery. Trying to decide between this and N6, wanted to know:
I remember having issues where even when you disabled some things in touchwiz, they still took the default actions for certain things and "lingered." I can't remember the specifics, but I do know that I would like to NOT use S voice and would rather use google for all of the voice command stuff. Is the voice command experience the same as a nexus when you disable the touchwiz stuff?
Along these lines, if you disable S Voice, does google's touchless control "OK Google" command work? What about if you use thee voice control button from a Bluetooth headset, does that bring up google now or something else?
is it possible to completely disable the native touchwiz apps, such as calendar, etc? replace the phone dialer? contacts? I've read that even if you disable the touchwiz calendar, clicking on a meeting invite still brings it up...
If you install a different launcher, like the google now launcher or nova, do you lose the ability to switch to one handed mode with the side swipe in and out motion? Also if you use the google now launcher does the s pen still work the same way? Like when you pull it out?
Have you found less of a need too use a tablet with such a big screen on your phone?
One more, how has your experience been with GPS? I remember having all kinds of issues in my gs3, never issues with my Motorola phones, I rely on GPS heavily for my job.
Thanks!!!

Ok, I can answer some of those for you... like you, I was torn between this and the nexus 6.... decided on getting both, with the note 4 being first. Have since decided to not even get the nexus.... at least for now
1: I hate s voice too, and far prefer the "Ok Google" stuff I've been used to from my nexus 5. I use the google now launcher, have have not gotten anything other than a nexus like performance in that regard. I get the "Ok Google" command working from any screen (with language set to US English) With that said. I did "freeze" S Voice with titainum backup, completely disabling it.... and that caused me problems. The first and only major one I noticed, that caused me to unfreeze it, is that the front camera doesnt work if s voice is totally disabled!!
2: I don't know about the bluetooth headset thing
3: As above, I've experienced problems when trying to completely disable the touchwiz things. But, as long as I leave them alone, and use my preferred aps, the touchwiz stuff leaves me alone too... I dont find it getting in my way at all.
4: I dont know about the 1 handed mode thing. I use my phone one handed just fine without a special mode... I dont wanna go playing there. The Spen, with the google launcher works just as it does with the touchwiz launcher
5: I sold my galaxy tab s 8,4.... I can see myself with a larger, 12" tablet in the future maybe.... meh, I don't know
6: GPS so far seems more reliable and faster than my nexus 5..... would probably still be even better on a motorolla, but certainly not exactly a problem
Thanks for the quick reply!
Can anyone else weigh in on the GPS thing? This is a deal breaker for me. I remember my GS3 working fine when I first got it, then getting worse over time, then getting to a point where it was mostly not working and once in a while working, as if a wire was loose or something. My moto x locks instantly every single time for over a year now. I use GPS for my job on a daily basis, right now I think this is the only thing holding me back from accepting the Touchwiz overlords back into my life...[emoji6]

Screen recorder with sound

Hi, I know some Samsung devices have a screen recorder installed by default, but that isn't the case for me. I've tried to port it with apks multiple times, and none of those times has it actually worked. When I use an app activity launcher to access the settings activity and the record one, it either doesn't do anything, or starts recording and then there's no way to stop it, and I find third party ones not as good, as they don't record sound unless I record external audio with the microphone, so I would be thankful to anyone who provides a non-root alternative/solution on Nougat, because it is a really useful feature to have, (that's why it is a standard feature in many phones)
Thanks to everyone who helps

Best Custom ROM for Moto G4 Plus with Call Recording

I need to use my Moto G4 Plus as a secondary device, where I am required to keep recordings of my calls. I've tried multiple apps on the Play Store, but none of them are able to record audio from both sides. I figured since root was the only way out, if there was a ROM which offered Call recording in the system app, that would be better and much more stable. I haven't used the device in a while now, so it'd really help if someone who's still in the custom ROM scene could tell me which ROMs offer this feature in-built.
Thanks
