I have bought a Hong Kong Version LG-H990N V20 mobile Phone (i.e. Dual SIM Card Version). I have seen a lot of root method for those US Versions but it seems no one has use this version and no one talk about how to root this model. I want to know whether the root method for those US versions can be applied to all V20 models or just for the specified model only? Are there any root method for Hong Kong Version. Thanks.

Wasn't the Hong kong version supposed to have unlocked bootloader?
The hong kong version does not support unlock bootloader. That is why i want to know whether there is another way to unlock it and root it.
I'm also waiting for root for this same Hong Kong model. BTW, how is your battery life. Mine goes for just 6-8 hours. 8 Hours on weekends and just 6 hours on weekday. I wanted to root so that i can save battery by disabling system apps and use root for Greenify, non-root version helps little bit only.
Dear all,
I found the root method for LG V20 H990N. Please go to the following web site and have a look at it:-

The correct link are as follows:-

Then, have you success to root your LG-H990N V20?
may it cover LG-H990TR single sim variant...???
Hi, I want to root my h990n too. Are u succeed to root it?
Before I root it, it is said that I have to unlock the bootloader. Pls refer ww.androidinfotech.com/2016/12/root-lg-v20-h990n-dual-nougat-twrp.html
But LG official site developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev?categoryId=CTULRS0703 say that this model does not support bootloader unlock.
Anyone try unlock the bootloader of h990n?
Same situation
PUSH~
I wanna root my H990N too...
How to root the Lg phone is not difficult for us , but the key is how to avoid damage to Lg devices or data

Yup, playing a game can kill the battery in 1 hour. Look up Lemon battery * http://zerolemon.com/product-category/lg/v20/ * - That's what I'm planning when I have the money. You get a pretty huge phone but it keeps more juice
One could also get the ekstra battery or more with the charger iv seen it on Amazon.
so does this method actually work reliably?

I don't see anything which even claims to be able to root a H990N.
What does work is the H990 DirtySanta. This root method does involve replacing the kernel and we're now finding kernel bugs. Yet the method does in fact work.
So any news on this?
Did anyone try that website thing for unlocking the mobile?
https://www.androidinfotech.com/2016/12/root-lg-v20-h990n-dual-nougat-twrp.html
Or has there come something in the meantime for successful unlocking it?

V20 H990 Single SIM
CAN be Rooted in near future
H990DS Dual SIM
Im not sure in near future
The V10 dual sim (H962) did get root, but to my knowledge, the bootloader never got unlocked. It'll probably be the same situation for the V20.

Seems like not root for us.
The thread does not include the h990.
Bummer.....

Take a look at the message right above, on that thread notice this message.
The more interesting question at this point is bootloader unlock. Given how generalized the Dirty Santa technique is, I'm pretty sure unlocking the H990DS bootloader is merely a matter of a little bit of time.
The lack of a bootloader unlock for the H990 so far is the reason I haven't got one.
The US996 is missing three bands that are used where I live (band 1, 28 and 40). But if the bands can be unlocked I'd consider getting one.

H990TR ?
Kardeş uzun süredir takip ediyorum bir hareket göremedim TR yi gören cevap vermiyor zaten @ahmetoguz8
Guess it is past time to add a mention on this thread (in case anyone subscribed and didn't notice other threads). Took a while, but root is available for the H990. The major limitation is it requires a publicly known KDZ which is old enough to allow DirtyCOW to inject the unlocked bootloader. H990DS and H990N have been shown to work, though the root isn't 100% stable (there are miscellaneous reports of difficulties and the procedure is complex). This includes bootloader unlock, so you can do pretty much anything you want.
The oldest H990TR KDZ is January 10, which is a few weeks too late. Someone might try it, but I'd give poor odds of success. I'd give good odds if a 10a-10d was known, but no one has pointed towards one.

Yes. The method is quite complex, but does work. There are a few reports of camera difficulty, but most people appear not to have any problems other than the instructions being complex.

I have successfully rooted and everything works except voLTE. So i am trying to flash another Indian firmware via LGUP. So do i need to follow the "Going back to stock:" instruction from the rooting thread ? Or should just flash the firmware via LGUP ?
Copying my question from the n00b thread.
Hi Guys,
I recently got a H990 DS and I'm loving it. I was wondering if root is possible for it? The Android patch level states June 1, 2017 and the build is NRD90M.
Thanks!

And funny enough, you look at the source of the information and an answer is readily available. That build can't be dealt with, but for most H990 devices earlier KDZ files are available, so downgrading the image allows the root process to proceed. Afterwords getting back to a current image isn't yet a science, but is doable.
I currently have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 phone.
I rooted the phone after I got it but a few months ago I had to unroot the photo so I could send it in to Samsung to fix a problem with the screen and while Samsung did fix the screen problem under warranty, they also installed the latest software update which looks down the boot loader and makes rooting very hard (The VZ S5 forum had a way to root the newer software but only if a certain part of the hardware was a certain chipset and mine phone didn't have that).
So now, I'm looking for a new phone that has a microSD Card and the ability to be rooted.
The IR function of the Galaxy S5 would neat too but I don't have to have it.
From what I've read it appears the LG V20 would fit the bill in regards to the microSD Card and an IR Blaster but from looking online and this forum, I can't seem to find out which models of the LG V20 have an unlocked boot loader and/or can be rooted.
Does anyone know which models have an unlock boot loader and/or can be rooted?
Also, they need to be models that are compatible with Verizon as they as the cell service company I use.
as far as i know, only the T-mobile variant and the international variant have unlockable bootloaders. the verizon variant is locked down , i assume some folks are looking for an exploit, but as of now its still a no-go. i have no idea if/when it might happen, but i wouldnt bank on it being soonish.
Hi,
can anyone provide an updated list of V20 variants with unlockable bootloaders and root?
I ask because I really like the phone, but I rely on having Titanium Backup Root to backup and restore my data and settings.
I also want to be sure that whatever I buy can have a life beyond LG's support for running custom ROMs.

Hi
There is root available and bootloader unlocking on the Euro 870 model now. Anyone know if this works on the 870DS? Is the only difference the dual sim?
Good question, i search many hours the last days and find nothing for bootloader unlock/root on the H870DS I think to buy it but not when no root is available.

there is a great chance for the 870DS Owner to don't get bootloader unlock officially, if we want it we have to pay a developper.
I just saw a post about a new prime phone from Amazon, and I was curious if there has been any luck rooting these AMZN based devices?
I really like the G6, but having access to the US unlocked GSM device AND the quad DAC would be perfect for me.
But I gotta have root. So any threads on other devices, or any insider information on whether these Amazon devices have unlocked bootloader's?
https://www.engadget.com/2017/10/26/amazon-lg-g6-prime-discount/
I'm waiting for the unlocked US998, but I would be okay with a quad DAC G6, too. As I don't mind waiting 6 mo the for the V30's to drop in price.
I am also wondering the same thing. Has the LG G6+ been rooted?
You are never going to see an official bootloader unlock for the Amazon devices, because their marketing model is "discount phone with ads." Bootloader unlock would allow you to circumvent the ads by rooting and/or flashing a different ROM, so Amazon would not offer the phone this way without an agreement from LG not to unlock these phones. Other devices Amazon sells this way are pretty tightly locked down, and their communities have not had a lot of success breaking into them.
Bottom line is, it's not coming any time soon, if at all, so don't buy the device assuming that you'll someday be able to root it.
Anybody tried flashing a different stock ROM to the phone using Uppercut yet? I'm wondering if you could just flash the international firmware to the phone if the phone would accept it since it's recognized in LG UP with no issues and shows up as the international version too. Since it's a signed firmware I've gotta believe that if you can't ever unlock the bootloader that you could at least flash a stock LG international firmware file to it.

Not gonna happen unfortunately...not unless someone gains root access to the device and then uses something like FlashFire to hot-flash a custom ROM onto the device. That would be our best hope. That being said I'm still using my LG G6 since Amazon removed ads from all Prime devices free of charge (except for Kindles and such) and my phone is better than ever now. I plan on getting at least a year of use out of it and then upgrade to something with a Snapdragon 845 CPU inside it.
Alright guys...im trying to root my H870 AT&T G6 thinq and Idk what I'm doing wrong. I downloaded the files I need and tried getting it into fastboot mode and it just reboots and turns on. I tried adb reboot recovery and of course with no recovery yet it goes to no command. Does anyone have a better way then using adb? I attempted to use kingoroot but I don't read Chinese so I have no idea what it was saying lol
As has been said elsewhere, the European H870 and US 997 are the only ones that are rootable.
There is not and will not be a root for any of the other variants. There is some chat about it on the forums but realistically there will not be any other rooting method other than the official LG route.
Is there a root and rom also applicable for the 918DS ?
I'm planning to buy it, but have not found yet a root option explicitly for the 918DS
DOes someone have experiences with a good ROM for this?
Thanks for advice

No such thing as a 918ds, there's a h990ds, and there's an h918. H990ds is an international dual SIM variant, while the H918 is a US T-Mobile (single sim) variant. They're both rootable and both have dedicated threads.
