[ROM] Stock vs. S.ROM/ViperOne - One (M8) General

For stability, performance and battery life, which one is best to use?
Stock MM / S.ROM / ViperONE?

Well, I would say Wolla or ICE 8.2.2 Why ? Sun dream did very good work with porting but I don't think anything from htc 10 is good for m8..I got overheating with this rom and lack of personalizing...Not seeing a point to can't personalize it like I want and to use custom rom.Viper, it's not battery friendly to me, also they dropped the support so... I like Wolla cuz is very battery friendly to me.Ice also can be personalized + sense 8 feel. You can get the same experience on viper with any mm rom with xposed framweork I think...I just visited their new rom for htc 10...They so hurry up to come with the first nougat rom and did such a big mess...Funny and pathetic at the same time.

Well I'm currently on SRom SL 2.0.1, and it is super smooth, battery life is great for me, and I have no overheating issues of any sort. The SRom has a bunch of great personalization settings as of the newest updates. Love the rom!

I guess is some of the latest version that i didn't try.

Well, i am not big fan of built-in Custom ROM customizations, for that i like to use Xposed ?
Yesterday i tried ViperONE but it was, meh, i dont know, even that ugly app header in notification center make me feel like this is not for me, so i flashed SRom SL, and while stock Google settings it seemed laggy, and when settings SRom specific thing in phone ive got a random reset
So, for Rom i would like have it to stock as possible - which i though SRom is - and Sense 8, u know, i really like Sense ?

Yes, it is Sense 8.
I prefer Stock Sense 7 for performance and battery.
S.ROM is ok after debloating.

Well, I am performance guy and I have tried all recent ROMs for M8... so I don't use xposed.
Battery life on S.ROM is, I will say it's ok and same as stock sense 7. S.ROM default kernel is super smooth, it has great scrolling, if not best for M8... But multitasking is not good on that ROM. LMK values are high + all booster apps kills apps in background. Memory usage is also bigger compared to stock Sense and GPE, so thats not ok for 2GB device. Boomsound from stock is better for me, on S.ROM sound is different.
Stock rom + debloat + Android 6.0.1 dex2oat compiler(faster app installation) + root + (ElementalX kernel if you like some options) = best combo, at least for me.
JW 5.4.0 + it's stock kernel is smooth, with Elex 6.03 battery is even better.
ICE is also nice and fast stock sense 7 based rom.

Well, do I need S-Off to flash kernel?
Also, I already tried Srom SL lates and restored latest nandroid of stock, so I have stock kernel or do I have to flash stock?
About debloating, what stuff I can safely delete from M8?
What is dex2oat?
And does Root+xposed drain more battery, etc.?
And about JW 5.40...well, what would you do? stay on the 1st way - stock+mods, 2nd way - JW+Elex or wait for HTC 10 Nougat port?

1. Ahh i don't know what can be problem with FB.
2. You don't need S-OFF for ROMs and custom kernels.
3. You have stock + stock kernel only if you restored system + boot from recovery
4. You can delete some HTC apps like, Browser, Tasks, HTC Mode, FB, Twitter, FB/Instagram sense plug-ins, HTC Mail etc.
Or you can freez some of them, like I did. 90 apps froze, no problems:

5. Dex2oat compiler is from Android 6.0.1 and it's for faster app installation. On stock rom app installation is slow, this dex2oat will fix it. You can find dex2oat flashable zip in GPE thread (inside "GPE flashable ROM" SPOILER).
6. Root doesn't drain more battery. Xposed? I don't know, maybe bad modules, but it can cause some bugs.
7. JW 5.4.0 is fastest Android 6.0.1 A9 port. It's faster than HTC 10 roms. You can do what you like, but I would recommend you to try them all

Well, xposed modules only for keyboard tinting, greenify and youtube background .... And is there any real advantages in custom kernel? Like performancr or battery life...and is that dex2oat worth? Does it affect phone in performance and battery life?
And last, should i use those flashable tweak zips that "deliver better performace and battery" or i should avoid it?
Sent from my HTC One (M8) using XDA Labs

I don't know about that flashable tweaks, I don't use them. Same goes for the greenify and xposed. Battery is even great without them. I just need root, good performance/battery and I do not worry about wakelock etc.
You can tweak custom kernels, there are some advantages over the stock, they deliver good performance also and battery. Latest ElementalX has LZ4 zRAM compression which is faster and better than stock LZO.
dex2oat doesn't affect performance and battery, and it's worth.
I will say, ICE (good battery life, if not best from any custom ROM), JW 5.4.0(smoothest, awesome performance), Stock rom(stability/great perfomance good battery) all are great. Try them all and just find what suits you best.

Cm7.2 (52) is great, but not work radio fm and the default app crash on the video recording hd.
all custom roms I've tried work well, I tried:
1) arconium
2) aniking
3) mod xperia
4) Fasty
I still think that the best is the SE.TWEAKED, as a general balance, lightness and speed.

Guys, very recently i got the S2 for my bro and let me tell you that i am hard core SE fan and that is why i still want to hold the ARC with me
That said, i find the stock samsung's ROM very stable usable and fast, especially when compared to SE's stock ROM
Any comparisons/experience to S2's Stock/custom ROM with ours?
One of my classmates has a S2 and I had the stock ROM + SuperCharger V6 @ 1.4GHz on my Arc (arconium 5.6) now and I couldn't see a real difference

Take stock ROM, root it, de-bloat it (uninstall all the system apps you don't use), set up SuperCharger and you're good to go.
Don't be fooled, only CM7 is a real custom ROM.
All the rest fall into the category I described: rooted, bebloated stock ROMs.
Oh! And if you need extra speed and you're willing to sacrifice a few hours of battery life, unlock bootloader and flash a custom kernel.
That should do it.

Agreed. No point messing around with custom ROMs when the stock ROM only needs cleaned up a bit. Don't see the benefit in Supercharger if you have already uninstalled all the crapware as there's nothing running on the CPU to consume the battery power
I have had the LT18i since it came out and it's lightning fast and the battery life is great. Nuff said

Yes I did the same. But still Arconium is a lot faster and lag-free compared to cleaned stock with supercharger and the same overclocking. Really it's the best and fastest rom together with CM (if you like that) and I tried a lot. The only downside is you will get worse battery performance in stand-by (twice as worse; up to 3%/h)when you install a custom overclock kernel even at the same clock speeds. So first try with stock kernel and of you need more speed (like 1.4GHz) go to custom kernels.
IMO Complete custom ROM is MIUI as if now with less bugs. CM has few bugs that has to be fixed. As stated above other are just modified version of stock.
@iridaki : When can we see your T.E.A.M ROM?
arconium + doomkernel is the best of all !

clean, stable and fast Rom?

So once i get the phone fixed (hope ext SD autoinstall works) i wanna ofc get rid of the ugly official ginger on my phone!
What i look from a rom is:
Gingerbread or above based (2.3?)
Clean - no xxx apps and bonuses and software - as clean and light as possible (i dont use 90% of crap on official). As long as it got Market i can get all i need (dialer and market installed are basically all i need from clean install).
Ofc ext4.
Stable - not full of bugs (eg constant crashes, wifi not working etc)
Internal SD card is mounted and works (and hopefully can use internal and external together?)
And ofc performance - specially gaming optimized.
And battery usage.
Unlocked Bootloader.
Root friendly.
Aurora ICS is too unstable and problematic.
Official one is just full of junk + locked bootloader.
Also oxygen looked like internal SD isnt mounted (wasted 2gb of storage !!!).
You wont get all you want from 1 ROM IMO best custom ROM is currently (.35 kernel) elite X MIUI it has good performance and in call volume and battery life seems good too. If performance is more important than anything else CM7.2 is best but it has some very annoying bugs (battry life and in call volume). Then there is also ret4rt MIUI which has IMO best battery life but low performance (also no new GPU drivers). If you want good battery life, performance and sound I think its best to stick with stock ROM + overclocked kernel and delete all the stuff you dont want and theme it if you dont like looks. But if you really dont want to use stock then you may also try MIUI by sbasil which I think is very similar to Elite X.
And BTW you can unlock bootloader on any ROM (official too)
Just my opinion
well performance over battery life.
And ofc working internal SD - i noticed most has problems with it.
The I suggest you to try CM7.2 by geno. Internal SD is working (i think), awesome performance but battery life and in call volume arent the best and thats why is switched to elite X which seems very good too but with a bit less performance. And I suggest you to use supercharger script or RAM manager app if you want to get the most out of your phone
How about any cpu/ gfx etc driver updates for stock ginger

[Q] Stock rom with latest patches?

Hey guys I'm pretty new to android roms etc etc I have a 512 mb gen 2 european blade that much i found out but i wanted to know whether there was a complete stockish rom with the latest kernel patches? I am running GSF now and it is fast and stuff but i would really like it to go faster with the latest kernels as it was updated quite some time back so i imagine it wont have the latest patches... any ROM without any cm7 mods and all just plain and simple stripped and modded stock with latest kernel mods like gpu axi uv etc ?

U know the answer cm with tons of performance boosts and options
to be honest if you want your phone to go faster i would go with cyanogen mod 7 latest kang + wbaws kernel with GPU overclock
So the stock based ROMS arent the ones with the best performance..?okay and by latest kang which should i try?(i really dont want to overclock and things like that as it may damage the phone no?)
Err.. Cyanogen?
In my experience, cyanogen is one of the heaviest and slowest roms I've encountered, although that might just be me . It's filled with cool stuff and options though.
So far I've been hugely impressed with Elite Blade Rom:
It also has a stock looking ui, except for a sexy lock screen. It's very fast, and battery lasts f o r e v e r. Which is very important to me atleast.
Overclocking doesn't damage your phone, because it only lets you overclock to about 800mhz, and if it doesn't like that clock, it just crashes and goes to normal. Around 730mhz always worked for me, and battery life seems not to be affected.
Stock roms are like buying a new laptop, filled with user friendliness and sponsored apps. In other words; Mighty damn slow. So custom ones are definitely the way to go.
One down, nine to go!
By stock Roms i meant stock based modded roms but i agree thats what i thought was bad about cyanogen that it was real slow when i tried it once before i dont thats why understand how the KANGS will make a difference plus i want stock similar roms as there are no bugs not even minor ones for example in elite blade in landscape mode in the status bar the peeking android looks weirdly stretched and stuff the small things..are perfect in GSF.. if the KANGS can work faster then im willing to try that but preferably i want to know if there's a way to add the latest kernel patches or the latest kernel to GSF..?
Thanks for the replies guys
(Swedish Snow was nice but for some reason GSF still feels faster )
hmm ok i will help you out a bit after trying a lot of different roms available for the blade including ones not available on these forums since they are only Chinese based (im not chinese i just like to try out there roms).
Overclocking will not damage your phone mate because if you overclock your phone to a limit which is not supported by your phone it will simply reboot and put back the normal CPU settings for your phone to work in a proper manner (Do not tick set CPU settings in boot).
GPU overclocking is nothing to worry about because the GPU will overclock when you overclock the CPU (3D games experience on the ZTE Blade has improved)
As for other saying they find cyanogen mod 7 slow i do not know what version they flashed but i prefer to use CM7 Kangs developed by BurgerZ & Kernel developed by wbaw (both extremely talented devs).
The reason others may find CM7 slow is because they use ADW Launcher (free) by default but burgerz uses stock gingerbread launcher.
if you dont want to use CM7 my second fav rom for performance would be Swedish Snow
@ruckus92
i tried the rom when it was updated last, it was not bad neither good as the libs it uses need updating nowadays.
CyanogenMod is pretty bloated, but some kangs are not as bloated.
I find that Burstlam's kangs are pretty light and fast. I guess he must have gotten used to developing for Chinese blades (they only have 256 mb of ram)
You can find his latest build here.
I have tried the stock-based roms but didn't notice any major difference between them and Burstlam's rom.
And like Kannibalism said, ADW Launcher free is slow as heck. I suggest you switch to ADW Launcher EX, or a different launcher the next time you try a cyanogenmod rom.

nope no trouble mate just restore your backup
follow these steps:
1) take out the battery to turn off the phone
2) power on the phone holding the power button + volume down button (keep holding do not let go of these two buttons till cwm boots)
3) Clockwork recovery will boot up
4) select backup & restore
5) select the backup you want to use
6) wait for it to restore your data could take a few mins
thats all mate

Hi, I have G2 pretty stockish now. Wanted to try some customs for better performance, battery, smoothness etc.
Can you help me choose something?
I prefer stockish look, LG or pure android so without fireworks. I would like to have good battery life (now it is ok but going worse with time) and stable rom/kernel. There are so many options so hard to choose something.
What do you suggest? I do not need newest android so any from 5.0.2 is fine.

I have a debloated CloudyRom with Dorimanx kernel. Also I have Xposed to run Gravitybox etc and I flashed Xcam-Mod to get UHD- and Slomo-Vids.
CloudyRom has some nice features itself and Dorimanx kernel gives you control about everything. Increase cpu speed 2,8 GHz, boost the sound of every speaker and headphone, a "speed charge"-mode, and many more.
I think the 5.0.2 stock roms are enough atm. Most stock-based-roms have features from G3 and G4. There are some nice features in MM and N, but none of the roms has the same drivers as the stock-roms. For example: If you flash Cyanogen based MM you'll get lower photo quality.

Yes that what I was afraid flashing non stock rom that photo quality will be worse, so I will stick with stock roms for now and also I do not need those features from MM and N. Only doze would be nice but it is ok It is my girlfriend phone, i have new OP3t myself with N
PS. Are you using this rom? https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3136529

PS. Are you using this rom? https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3136529
EDIT: now I see that you can have G3 cloudy on G2, did you try it? Is it any better than CloudyG2?

Which is the best rom for the samsung s5?

Just wanted to know.
[S5 SM-G900F]
Which roms are the most stable?
Also which roms offer the most performance or battery life?
What kernels should i use for mm or n?
So far i tried SkiesROM UX v3.1. Which is decent but has some problems. Going to try Resurrection Remix N now.
Thanks.
I'm usig the latest stock:
Debloated, Rooted, Tweaked, Xposed
Working grea,t Stability and batterylife is the greatest.
"Best" is subjective
You'll have to try them out to see what you like the best. Read the threads of each ROM to see what to expect for stability/battery/performance
I am using viper os it's buttery smooth it's on android 7.1.2 and it's blazing fast
Performance?
Any recent AOSP ROM on 7.1.2. RR if I had to pick.
Battery life?
Rooted, debloated, stock Sammy ROM
Stability?
Same as above. Stock ROM.
Kernel?
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Included kernel.
just installed latest and its really good (subjective) https://download.lineageos.org/kltedv

ROM? Sammobile (select unbranded firmware).
Root? SuperSU
xposed? Check xposed for Samsung thread
Had my S5 for more than two years, and the circle is closed. Will be running stock with Magisk, Xposed and the Boeffla-kernel for the rest of its remaining life (1-2 years). Most important for me is stability and battery life. I miss the synchronised volume with BT though that LinageOS got.

I'm using
G900FXXS1CQH1
I can make a dump. So you just have to install the rom and the needed apps.
There is no more i can find to optimize.

Im using MM Lite, very fast n heavily debloated...
xposed is working too...
So far so good...
Yes. But it's an old Securitylevelpatch and some useful apps from samsung ain't on board.
Can you please give me suggestion what to do with my Samsung S5? (just root phone and leave stock or install some rom?).
The reason I want to root is that now phone is sometimes slow. I have problems with messenger and whatsap apps for the past 1 year. Also there are some random bugs where phone freeze for several seconds or just restart.
For me, it's most important that phone and internet are stable/no freezing or dropping (I share internet from phone to PC for work). Also, I would like top
not have so many applications.. only those necessary and I will install what I want from google store.

Try crdroid. It's has great battery life, is really fast and no bugs, as far as I know. Been using it for months now.
Using first 6.0.1 stock rom, and all is good.

Old thread but why make a new one for the same question. What's the best performance/battery rom for nougat right now? I'm on KLTE. Tried crDroid then went with stock lineage and I honestly think its crap.
