I have the Tab Pro 4 10.1, Tab 3 7" and the Nexus 7 2012. My Nexus 7 2012 had gone through all the updates to Lollipop but none of my Samsung devices have any updates for months while the Nexus 7 the oldest of all the three have all these updates that just keeps on coming. I'm getting frustrated with Samsung because until now my Samsung tablets are stuck at 4.4.2. If Samsung can release a new phone/tablet every 3 months with the latest OS then why can't they update the OS of the older ones at the same rate? Why do we ever bother reading the news about Android's latest Lollipop if we can't even get them on time? All I see is - it's coming, yeah right! What kind of software developers or engineers they have in there? Maybe they only have one guy working on it that's why it's taking so long or never at all. With all that money that they have, they can't even do this simple things. I guess that's why they couldn't beat Apple at their own game. Anyway, I'm out. Thanks for reading!

Just what do you see on Lollipop that makes you want it so bad.
I have purposely turned off OS updates on my N7 as don't want it. The device has not enough power to operate more and more memory intensive OS.
I let my N4 get updated and now regret it. Had no problems prior but now the battery drains overnight if left on standby. I used to let it go for several days before charging now I have to ensure it is plugged in and recharged nightly. This battery drain is being experienced by others. I don't want to have to do a complete factory reset and load everything again which is what some people recommend when doing these updates. Lollipop to me offers nothing that I want and it removed the ability to quickly close all apps which now must be done individually a pain. That plus the chance of other problems makes me want to leave my tab as is.
Google makes the Nexus line.
Google makes Android.
It's to be expected that a Nexus gets the Android updates first.
I'm under the impression the TabPros are getting Lollipop in Jan/Feb sometime with the rest of the year old devices, is that way out to lunch? If they aren't, I will be jumping to CM12 way sooner than later!

I just installed cm12 on my tab pro 8.4 and its freaking amazing. Just for laughs I backed everything up and loaded touchwiz back onto it cause its been awhile, i put cm11 on it like a week after I got it. Anyways, I loaded touchwiz back onto it and I couldn't believe how bad it sucked, and I had it debloated, rooted and finevtuned! My advicemis... Screw stock LP and just upgrade to cm12

Whats so good about lollipop..... wellllll, on my phone after lollipop update I went from a 32k antutu to a 48k antutu, after lollipop im getting noticeably better performance in browsing and gaming, after lollipop im getting MUCH better battery life, after lollipop my phone runs like I want it to. As for being more memory intensive better look again. In its initial release lollipop had a memory leak, that was fixed so now it is easier on your device than kitkat. As for the close all in recent tasks which has been renamed...its still there. As always brand specific features will overwrite stock features though.
So in short why would someone want lollipop? It is simply better in almost every way. One of the few updates I have thought worthy of taking.

Dude, yes. This a hundred times. I was going to return this stupid tablet (10.1) because the TW ROM is so horrifically bad and sluggish. With CM12 it flies.
Yup, it'll either be out this year, next year, or the year after that. Trust me. Don't worry about it. Keep buying Samsung tablets, they're great.
I see a thread just like this one on every single device I've ever owned. A spoiled baby crying that they don't get updates right away. If you want updates so fast why would you get anything but Nexus? Go install CM12 & be happy.

lol seriously? 4.4.2 is just so out of date, it makes sense everyone is complaining.
not to mention, there's so many dumb bugs on the official GTP 8.4 firmware that it's pretty obvious this model is an "afterthought" for samsung
i actually don't expect ANY further updates for this model, it's pretty clear that when a company replaces a product with a newer product just 4 months after the product comes out (Tab S) they consider the first product a failure and don't care about it anymore

It is not that out of date cmon man. If/when 5.0 drops you will see a new thread dedicated to how bad it is on the tablet & asking how to go back to kitkat. If you want loli so bad why not play with cm12? If updates are such a priority to you why did you get this device? It has been like this for pretty much every non nexus device. Some get updates pretty quick, but most have to wait months.

hi bro, would you care to check something for me? I'm reluctant to flash cm12 until I know this.
in CM12 for tab pro 10.1 if you set an unlock pattern. does it appear on the first screen after pushing power button(like stock) or do you have to swipe for it to appear? (which means additional screen/step before unlock)
edit: oh well, nevermind..

Are you really happy with that Lollipop on your Nexus 7 (2012)? I also own a Nexus 7 (2012) which became useless after Lollipop update.
Guys, go and visit the Nexus 7 sub-forum here and see how frustrated are those people after they got Lollipop.
I am really happy with my Samsung's (especially with 8.4), I wouldn't trade my milliseconds lag for a 30 seconds Lollipop lag and I will wait some good time when the update will become available.

Hi everyone! I created this thread to collect any info about getting a Marshmallow update on our beloved Note PRO.
Did Sammy say anything about it?
Greetings!
Boy that would be nice for it to be updated to 6.x but I'm not holding my breath. I read an article that said our tablets are considered old and outdated as the came out Feb 2014... Nice.
FYI just updated Nexus 7 to 6.0 and it's from 2013.

Considering the tablet is less than two years old, and Samsung has a pretty good track record of providing OS updates during the first 2 years, I'd say chances are good. But, it'll probably be next fall when the "N" release is ready to drop. haha
With that said, the one factor that I think works against the Note Pro is the fact that it probably didn't sell very many units. It was incredibly expensive, and most people simply didn't want a tablet that big.
Time will tell.
I doubt it we haven't even got lollipop yet so the chance of marshmallow is 0%

Well, I got the OTA update to Lollipop (5.0) two weeks ago. I am in Poland.
So IF we'll get the 6.0, it will be probably muuuch later than anyone else. My Nexus 6 hasn't got it yet.

I'm not sure what you mean, I'm on 5.0.2 right now, which is lollipop. The only feature I care about on Android M is Doze. My tablet drain about 20% overnight or when not in use for a day and I feel like Doze can bring that down to 5% or less so it's comparable to Ipad's standby time. I've tried Greenify and other similar "sleep" applications and they end up not saving any battery.
Idk our hardware is quite similer to Note3 hardware which wont get M !!
Just dont get your hopes so high guys since this company wont listen or even care about us loyal customers !
Trust me i've been in a situation like this before with my Note2.
Anyway i don't use my tablet as a social media device as they are the most reason to drain battery so quickly especially viber also turn off location completly.
So i really dont care about google so called doze or whatever sorcery they keep throwing at us as some marketing s**t !!!

Still on 4.4.2 here in the UK so no we still havnt recieved lollipop yet and 2 weeks ago Andriod L was realesed a year ago most google devices are using marshmallow now If you take Samsungs time scale as a factor google will have upgraded all there machines to 8.0 by the time we would recieve 6.0, so like I said I doubt very much they will upgrade an old tablet that didn't sell well to Marshmallow. If by some miracle they do, it will be 2 years out of date so again no real point to.
I've been researching about an update for my Verizon p905v for several days now because I switched to T-Mobile a few months ago and they don't sell this tablet so I didn't trade it in. I just added it to my account and put T-Mobile's sum card in it but the tablet won't recognize the sun card and still thinks it's a Verizon tablet, but that's off topic, just said that to explain why I couldn't update through the settings. Anyway, through Kies I was able to update to 5.1.1 a week or two ago. I read somewhere why researching this that the p905v WILL be getting the 6.0 update! It listed a few Samsung devices and the Note Pro 12.2 was the last one on the list to be getting it. I'll try to find where I read that and post a link here if I can find it again. FYI, you can't judge the update or timeline by comparing to any Nexus device, that site also said all Nexus devices will get the update first since they are Google devices. Hope this helps answer some questions, again I'll post a link to that site if I can find it.

Verizon is CDMA and TMobile is GSM. The two are not compatible. It will not work unless the tablet has both radios. Not sure if the note PRO has a GSM radio. If it does, then you will need to turn the radio on. Probably by loading a custom ROM.

I just bought the galaxy note pro 12.2, barely used for a good price. Even thought it's old, it should do what I need. I would hope to get at least 3 years out of it and the update to marshmallow would be nice. This is my first samsung tablet. I had previous iPad. Is it not likely Samsung will update this tablet? What's the big difference between lollipop and marshmallow anyway? Maybe it won't really matter.
Everyone tells me I should buy the iPad pro instead because of newer tech.
I think that the only way we will get Marshmallow for this tablet is if a dev cooks it up for us. I'm also wondering why there is no news of a new version of this table (or any Note tablet) in the works. I'm wondering if Samsung has abandoned the Note series of tablets. If they have that would be a shame. I use an iPhone, but the handwriting and multi-screen are of importance to me (so no change to an iPad).

I too am wondering why there isn't news of a new tablet. I was in the market for one, and didn't want another iPad. I have an iMac as my computer, but don't like apples phones so have galaxy note 3 and thought my iPad was limited in function so wanted a galaxy tab. I had to buy used. I know with CES being around the corner, if there is something in the works, they should announce it then. But I couldn't wait. I hope to at least get 2 years out of the note pro.
if nothing else, maybe someone will make a cyanogenmod 13 rom for it. that would be really nice.
Techradar marshmellow
"Android Marshmallow update: when can I get it?"
They mention the note pro.
I think it is a good idea for Samsung to do this asap as the market for large screen stylus powered devices is growing quickly with the iPad pro and tablet 4. The already with the note pro have a foothold device in that sector so they can launch off the back of it. Keeping the note pro relevant is important for now.
BTW, I've used both the iPad pro and windows 4 tab at work and still prefer the Note pro 12.2 even though it is a year old and less powerful. At the price point of the Note pro it is a fantastic device.
The last Samsung phone I owned was a Galaxy S3, a few years later I bought the Galaxy S8+. My previous phone (the Z5 already has android 7.1 for months now). Even then people on XDA were complaining about how slow Sony updates their phones. But now I'm here, with the S8+ and I'm wondering, why does the S8+ not have android 7.1 yet? Is there any schedule available of Samsung updating this phone. There's also so little development. Back in the days the Galaxy phones had so much development going on, which I missed.
I'm happy with this phone and android 7.0, but android 8 is almost coming and were still running on 7.0.
the step from 7.0 to 7.1 is not that big...
At all but the note 8 will be first
I've been in the Motorola community for the last 3 years, but I think the lack of development has to do with Knox.
Also, is bought this phone knowing that updates were going to be slow, and I am fine with that. After years of custom roms, I am getting tired of doing workarounds just to get things to work. I am happy to have things just work.

I agree with this, the only reason I rooted my phone was to use AdAway and mainly to use Viper4Android. Which I'm regretting a little, since I can't use Secure Folder, but I'm hoping someone manages to make it work... With Knox tripped. Now a stock ROMs are so good that rooting isn't needed as often to require something.
Although people say the step from 7.0 to 7.1 aint big, progress is progess and in my eyes Samsung is taking a long time to update this phone.
Yeah but its a bummer seeing £500 phones come out with it (Blackbury, One+) come to mind and my £850 flagship is still running 7.0

More likely Samsung is going to skip 7.1 and we will get upgrade to 8.0

Why does anyone care. It's just a number. We've got the latest security patch and apart from that 7.1.x brought basically nothing new.
Better Samsung invests their time into a timely 8.0 release.
I care. Android 7.0 has a bug in its (default) TLS implementation which makes it not work with implementations / servers which offer higher ec curves than 256 (such as secp384r1 or secp521r1). If any of those curves are offered as preferred, the whole TLS connection fails (instead of just using a lower curve, if offered; or a non-EC cipher suite). This bug has real world implications. E.g. davdroid (caldav / cardav sync adapter) fails with any TLS server using such a setup. To make matters worse in nginx this can only be configured globally, i.e. for all domains served. While the config option is available in server{} statements, it doesn't have any effect. The nginx developers claim this is due to a bug in OpenSSL.
Anyways, the true issue is Android 7.0 failing. This has been fixed by Google in 7.1. Of course Samsung could backport this fix, and remain at 7.0. But they didn't even do that. Given that this bug is known for a long time and has been fixed (in 7.1) for a long time this is really bad support for a such a premium phone.

Hey guys!
I don't know if you already heard it but the Galaxy S6 lineup will probably receive Android 8.0. Many Samsung employees confirmed that and there is already a leaked list of devices which will get the update. Today I noticed that not only the S6 was mentioned on that list... the Galaxy Tab S2 will probably receive the update as well! In my opinion it is really great to see that the first premium devices from Samsung will get another update
What do you think?

Right, it looks like I misread the image. It seemed that the original Tab series was included. In reflection its actually the header. :silly:

I made the same mistake when I saw it the first time?
Maybe we will get Samsung Experience 9.0 with the update. It would be very great to get some S8/S9 UI feauters
If Samsung's track record holds of two major version updates per flagship device, the 2016 Tab S2 should get Oreo. The 2015 may or may not - I guess it depends on whether Sammy is feeling generous.
I'm not sure who would hope their device doesn't get the update? While it's possible Samsung could pull an Apple stunt and kill performance with an Oreo update, that generally hasn't been an issue. In reality, it will just be security patches and support for newer apps. The days of new Android versions bringing sea changes of improvements appear to be in the past.

I agree Samsung seem to give 2 major updates to their flagships and higher spec devices.
The S2(2) should get Oreo. I'd say unlikely the S2(1)will see it.
As a 2015 owner, all I want for the last major update is a stable build without any major bugs. From then on, I'd just like the same build with the security updates. The current Nougat is pretty solid but the screen brightness does keep going up and down on some occasions.
i would love to see something for the 819N, i mean there isn't even any custom roms for that version of the tablet, i hope at least samsung goes oreo for it.
How you get it ? What is the name of app ? @edan1979

Thank you my friend.

Probably 2016 model can hope for it because it has been shipped with 6.0 and also is not sure...but 2015 model should kill the idea because has been shipped with 5.0.1. Even if we could run oreo Sammy will never give a third major update to a 2015 device, even if the only difference between 2015 and 2016 is the CPU (correct me if i'm wrong)
I think it's crazy how Samsumg abandons its own products. I can understand their budget devices getting updates, but this is their only tablet line. Not to mention they were selling these for $400+ a pop (i got mine out of a pricing error for $200 though).
Just shows you that iPad should be the only tablet product to purchase from here on out... I think the last year and a couple months I've owned this it's been updated a whopping 3 times! Never again will I buy Samsung.

How do you mean their only tablet line? There's also the Tab A, Tab E, Tab pro, plus older Tab 2, 3, 4 etc.
I was on the line with samsung+ and they told me that there are planning to release oreo for the tab s2,tab s3,galaxy s6 line, galaxy s7 line, galaxy s8 line as well as some other devices. Now this is NOT,and I wanted to get this clear,NOT 100% CONFIRMATION that tab s2 is getting oreo, they could change their minds about this, this isn't a press release,it's just samsung+ customer support, because I knew some people were gonna point out this isn't reliable but just wanted to let people know that tab s2 has a good chance of getting oreo

I found this post to be very useful. Here's hoping it's true and Oreo will make its way to myTab S2!
According to Sammobile, the Tab S2 is still on the "may or may not get Android 8.0" list. I doubt will ever get an official announcement from Samsung. It will either just show up one day or a year from now we can finally give up hope. There appears to be a fairly stable version of LineageOS 15.1 for those that can't (or don't want to) wait.

The latest info from XDA https://www.xda-developers.com/list-samsung-galaxy-android-oreo-update/
The S2 is not on the list for Oreo update. I'm inclined to believe this.
Last security patch August 2017, think about that...
The S7 is still patched sometimes.

Not for me though, I have the 8.0 LTE version, and there is no custom rom available for that one. I'm **** out of luck

Check again, of course there is. Well, depending on which one you mean. T-719 it is?

Yes, That would be the 719 IIRC, I've seen that there is an unofficial build now, but from the looks of it the microphone and/or calling is non functional. Maybe I'll try it in a few weeks, would be amazing just to have 8.1 vanilla on there.
Yeah, I'm interested into getting a Tab S2 8.0. The ones selling online nowadays are mostly the T719.
There's an unofficial Lineage ROM for it now, but the phone speaker and mic aren't working. But if we could just use a Bluetooth headset to mitigate this problem, then I'm OK with it, cos I'd much prefer the Lineage ROM.
I've posted this question in the Lineage ROM thread, but no one replied so far. Has anyone succeeded in using a Bluetooth headset with it?

BT calling does not work, too.
But Samsung does not have any newer medium sized tablet than the S2 8.0. There is no S3 8.0. So why shouldnt they update this device. Or there will be a small S3...

Oh, that's unfortunate. Here's to hoping it'll get fixed in the future.
Wouldn't be surprised. Samsung abandoned the Pro series back in 2014. Great device but stuck in Kit Kat if im not mistaken...
Meh, I doubt we will get Oreo.
Samsung usually pushes out 2 major updates at most, and we already got 2 major updates (Marshmallow and Nougat).

The 2016 S2 shipped with Marshmallow, so I'm not sure that counts as an update. However, I don't entirely disagree with your overall point because of the tablet's age - even the newer S2 is hitting the 2 year mark, which usually means the end of the line for support.
Be really good if the 9.7 LTE version gets an Oreo Rom. The WiFi version has had one for a few months now...

Since when? I am on the latest update available for my T813 (January 2018 Security update) and it is NOT Oreo but still Nougat. Unless you are referring to custom ROMs which is true. But this thread is a discussion about stock .
