Hi!
Seems I'm having some weird issues with the front and back camera.
When I launch the camera app, it's all dark. Only after a picture is taken (with HDR+ On) it goes normal. Opposite for video, everything is very bright.
What I've tried so far:
Use another app besides the default camera app.
Clear Cache
Safe Mode
Factory Reset
Running Stock Rooted and ElementalX
No water damage, no overheating at all.
What else can I try or I'm missing something here?
Thanks!

A friend of mine gave me a Nexus 4 with a camera problem. He said that, after ota upgrade to the last version of kitkat, camera stopped to work ("camera not connected" error). Both front and back camera don't work, and led flash too. I've tried every version of android stock, cyanogenmod 10 and 11, and franco kernel too. I've open the phone and unmounted every piece: nothing looks wrong. Maybe logical board? Or a defective back camera? But led flash and front camera don't work too. Maybe a software problem? Thank you
Try reverting back to 4.2.2; see if that fixes it. If not you might have to open it to make sure the wires for the camera is connected.

Try to flash the Google stock ROM with a toolkit then it should work
Gesendet von meinem Nexus 4 mit Tapatalk
But, as I already wrote, i've tried to flash every N4 android version (with unified toolkit, of course), and I've unmounted every piece and everything looks ok. I don't think the back camera is broken, as front camera and led flash don't work too.
Do u think that if back camera doesn't work, the front camera and flash led are off? I tried now without back camera, now without front, and i've the same error.
can you share your topical setup rom+kernel...?

try also to delete your app data off the camera (gallery) in app settings or try another camera app in the playstore and check it again. if nothing helps i think something inside your device is broken
I got an att lg g2 a few days ago with stocked firmware 80010d. Everything worked very well. I then flashed my cell to att 4.4.2 kitkat (80020c) with lg flash tool. The updating process should be successful because I strictly followed a video tutorial and everything is expected.
After flashing I realized that the picture quality of both front and back camera are very poor in some video chatting software (I used Wechat and Hangout). How poor it is? Most of the time my picture is totally black unless you put a light source in front of the camera (both front and back camera are experiencing the same thing). It seems the brightness level of the camera is set to its lowest value so everything is dark, and there is no way to adjust it in the video chatting software. (I do try to set the ISO and brightness to maximum level in camera app, but nothing is changed). Attachments show screen captures in Hangout with or without a light source in it.
Occasionally (it happened once when I had the phone fully charged), the brightness level is good, but the picture quality is extremely low. It seems the camera resolution is only 0.1MP instead of 2MP.
The camera itself works very well taking pictures or videos. It is only bad in video chatting. I searched hard on google but it seems my case is very rare. Is there some settings or adjustments I can do to fix this problem? I know my question is too long, Thank you for any advice.
Guess this is really rare. I will roll back to 10d and see what happens.
My wife's new LG G2 is doing the same thing and she is on stock kit Kat uprooted, came f e on AT&T on 10C, I'm using ClodyPro II on mine and mine works fine. Her problem is exactly like yours

So found a fix, just did it for my wife's G2 which as I said has the same issue, or had. I used the Flashtool to taker her back to 10d then I rooted, installed recovery, updated recovery, and flashed the 10d to 10c keep root and recovery in the AT&T G2 Dev Section, after I backed up first and preformed the install I immediately did a factory reset to wipe data, cache, and dalvik before I rebooted from recovery. Once it was set up, I tried hangouts and the camera looked just like mine, great!! Thought I'd share

lg g2 issue in wechat after kitkat update
Even i'm experiencing the same **** in with my g2 after kikat ota update..... pls anyone have a solution
I am also having the same issue. I use wechat and stock kitkat not rooted. I think it's happening to a lot of us, so it isn't rare. Is there a solution yet? If not, can we get together and maybe report it.
Thanks.

Did one of you already found a solution?
I just got a brand new G2 and the front camera is really bad when using video chat.
Using stock 4.4.2
My old htc phone was much better.
Same problem... sh*t AT&T......
Curious if anyone has a fix or reason why this is happening. I'm rooted and have run a few ROMs and the google camera almost constantly fc. I've run chroma, pure nexus, du, ect and sometimes I get it to work but it seems lately it will not connect. Not sure why or what's making it happen. Wondering if anyone has some ideas or whatever on what's going on ...thanks

What ROM are you currently running? I'm on Chroma and whilst I haven't directly experienced that issue yet (fingers crossed I don't), i did see in the thread at some point, someone did experience the same 'camera cannot connect' issue. The solution was to:
1. Uninstall the camera app, and then
2. In recovery, Flash the new Google Camera zip (pulled from Stock N6P factory image) - available on the first post of the Chroma ROM page (http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex...-chroma-11-08-2015-lockscreen-navbar-t3244444).
If you're not sure on how to uninstall system apps (your current offending camera app):
1. Get Titanium Backup (if you don't have it already) and
2. Go to Batch Actions and then "uninstall system apps" within Titanium Backup.
3. Deselect all (just to be safe).
4. Find the camera app, and run uninstall action.
Now you can Reboot into recovery and then flash that zip mentioned above.
If all else fails, you might need to restore factory image and start again... which blows if you have a tonne of apps.
Good luck!
^^^ I was running chroma a few hrs ago. Then tried candysix and du. All of which the camera app closes. Now I'm on aosip lololol. Ridiculous. I have camera fv5. For some reason that works but google camera doesn't. I have tried the chroma camera zip as well. No go. I'm at a loss. I've tried everything minus reflashing stock and starting over again. I had it working days ago although I would get a fc and found if I switched to front facing cam to rear cam it stopped the fc, but now I can't even do that

Hey. I have the T-Mobile V20. I love everything about it, but I checked my Snaps this morning and found out the camera just suddenly sucks in low light. It was literally working flawlessly yesterday. I've restarted the phone, uninstalled and reinstalled the app, cleared the data, checked the camera settings, and it's the same way. Does anyone else have this issue and/or a solution for this? Thanks in advance

Nevermind. Its back to normal now, man. The app itself, I'd agree. The camera on SC isn't the worst, in my opinion. And it was kinda like opening your camera app in low light. That's how it was acting
This is what I was afraid of when I bought this phone for my wife.
Her front camera is no longer popping up when it should.
She has tried restarting the device to no avail.
Is anybody aware of any bug or software issue that might be causing it to not pop up, or do you think it's simply a hardware failure?
Pop up camera just stop working or cell was dropped or something else that could affect pop up camera? If not, my suggestion it's claim warranty. I had this cell since 6 weeks ago and no issues with pop up camera but notice I'm not use pop up camera too much/often.
Start front camera in app and try little to press down camera....maybe this help...

did you updated to android 10? im having the same issue now that im trying the miui 11 beta
---------- Post added at 07:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:56 PM ----------
Ok, so for appearently flashing the 75hz screen refresh rate mod or the the 66hz (as is the only one working with miui 11 android 10 rom) breaks the pop up camera dont ask me why but i reflashed the rom and then flashed one by one the mods i use and this is the one.
So maybe you have this mod installed and is the one messing with the camera.
Cheers
