Notification LED RGB (proper) Calibration Reference - Samsung Galaxy S7 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello everybody.
I have noticed that S7's notification led(s) have an inaccurate RGB colorspace calibration.
Some of the leds are stronger than the other (or their voltage is incorrect) resulting in weird/unexpected color combinations.
For example FFFFFF which should be white is instead a light Violet.
I'm leaving some properly calibrated values for anybody that might want to make a kernel with corrected notification RGB or atleast for the sake of having a reference.
White - 55FF44
Yellow - 66FF00
Orange - FFFF00 (in proper RGB this code represents Yellow!)
Cyan - 00FF55
Purple - 8800FF
Magenta - FF00AA
By the above combiantions you should be able to judge pure R, G, B values.
If someone wants to test the above colors grab a LED notifiction app tester and try the stock color code options which should represent proper RGB calibration and compare them to the ones I posted.
One of those apps is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.coolbeans.ledtester
PS: That post might fit more to the development side of the subforum but I was reluctant to post it there.
If any of the mods feel that it fits better there feel free to move it.
PS2: The above values are by no means calibrated with a scientific method. There is a room of like +-08 for each R,G, and B value for proper tuning, which I guess is more than fair.

Same dude. And app does not work.

Share your CM7 Voodoo Color settings

There's a thread on this in the Nexus S forum, but I figured we could start one here for the locals.
Thanks to Tk-Glitch and times_infinity, we now have the beauty that is Voodoo Color available for CM7. Please share and discuss your voodoo color settings. Of course, everyone's experience will vary. This is just what works for your phone.
Here's mine:
Color profile: Voodoo profile v1
RGB multipliers:
Red: 2771276480
Green: 2853085440
Blue: 2812181120
Gamma hack:

Green: -30
Blue: -33
It would be awesome if somebody that has a display calabrating device stick it on the phone and give use some "professional" numbers to start off at. This is done often in the HDTV world.

The only quirk with these settings is having to leave minimum brightness at the default 20%, no biggie.

Yeah its a good start, they are similar to what I ended up with after an hour of messing around with the phone. The thing that sticks out to me is the screen clarity definitely suffered. If you get a picture that has tiny details like a black leather wallpaper that shows grain, there is a noticeable difference from stock to the above posted settings in shadow detail and image clarity. I'll keep messing around with it more and post later on.

I have access to the calabrating equipment for HDTVs.
I'll see what I can get going on this. May take some time but I'll get on it when I can.

It looks great, but i can't stand how the screen messes up when it goes to "dim" mode (on miui anyway).

Nope. This setting will be safe.
Also,
And just as an update, glitch's new kernel fixes this issue (beta tested atm); so you will be able to use any setting you want without the screen freaking out once he releases it.
Anyone have any better settings for our device? The nexus s ones look pretty good. Anyone do a pro calibration yet for the fascinate?

Bumping this to see if we can get anymore setups
I'll post my setup just in case anyone else finds it useful. I found that some of the settings posted were somewhat red/green when the screen was really dim (my dim setting is at 10), so I blued it up a bit. Things may not be all that different from stock, I haven't really compared.

Screen RGB:
Red - 23111...
Green - 18713...
Blue - 23724...
Gamma offset:

Green -17
Blue -18
EDIT: When looking at my gmail inbox (namely, unread messages), I still found the gray to be too red. If you agree, I've toned the red setting in SRGB to 21168...
Cleanest colors for me were as follows:
RGB Mulipliers:
Red=4294967290
Green=3354165120
Blue=4294967290
Gamma Offsets:
Red=0
Green=0
Blue=0
All the others I tried were just too red, green, or dark. These are perfect for me, try it out yourself!
--Changed my settings a couple days later..see this post.
Spent some time and found these to be the best settings for me.

Well, tried all the other listed here...liking yours the best so far..wish the app allowed you to TYPE in the values as well as the sliders...o well..
Anyone have the equivalent stock values for this(CM7 stock kernel)...I flashed the glitch kernel and was very put off by the ugly warm color scheme....what was wrong with stock colors any way...IMO they should have some Presets, like Stock, Cool Warm, Standard...kinda like they do for desktop monitors..

It will be fixed in the next glitch update. I'm about to post my color settings which have great vibrance in all brightnesses and color ranges, white whites and black blacks. I have tried just about every recommended setting and nothing has looked quite right until I spent some time making my own.

[SETTINGS & QUESTION] CM Color tuning, post question and settings here

Ok, i started this thread to discuss about new CM9 feature: the color tuning
The feature, with build 14, has become mature and then here we can share our best settings
Remeber that screens aren't all the same so colors can varie from phone to phone, but generally there aren't much difference
Please use this thread only for CM color question
The general cm9 thread is here
All other question will be ignored
so far i'm using
Red 0.917
Green 1
Blue 0.944
red gamma 11

blue gamma 11
Setting must be with this format
Red

Red gamma
Green gamma
Blue gamma
but i'm not 100% satisfied, so i'm working to get better possible
hi there...before i start fiddling with it..can u help me understand what each slider do?
Also..right now the CM colors are perfect but there is a lot of noise in darker pictures how can i correct it without making the overall picture yellowish?
thanks!

First slider's series concern rgb adjustement, the second change the gamma of each color
I'm trying to understand how it works properly
With these adjustment you can mix red, green and blu and try to have best looking possible color
If you set all color t same setting would be few useless, we must try differents level to have acceptable black and white, which are the extreme opposite colors
Maybe someone can help faster than me
As I wrote in the CM9 General thread, your settings look amazing erto90.
I tried messing around myself but I don't have the eye for this stuff.

Ok thanks, but i opened the thread to share our settings
I've reached my settings after 15m of trying but i think we can do better!
So, guys, share best settings you can!
So messing around again with this, I just put gamma to 20 on all colors, using the color settings in OP, and I am really liking it.
Edit:
Red gamma 11

That's made to avoid the green bug at minimum darkness and to try to keep acceptable dark greys.
Sure it's still quite saturated but anything with more gamma turn the grey too bright...
Though I have to say it's better than Voodoo hack, perhaps because the MDNIE are disabled (they lighten the greys and turn them red on Samsung roms).

It's a kind of filter that boosts particular colours, quite like digital vibrance on your PC video card.
I don't like this, it gives more banding and tint in the dark greys.

[Q] My Super amoled is not that super anymore?

When i bought my galaxy i was very impressed from its colorfull screen and especially it's black color.
Now after 1.5 years i think that my screen isn't that cool.As for the black colors when i see an image with different shades there are some strange colors like grey or "pixeled" colors.I don't know if you understand what is my problem but i want to fix it somehow.I tried voodoo color but the same thing happenes.Only if i reduse the
colors from voodoo control the screen gets better but then i have no brightness...Any help or settings about this?I have used many roms including gb(cm7) and ics(simply ,icssgs, and aokp) and many kernels and i have always the same problem.
Screen burn-in . Happens if your brightness is too high, or a pixel shows the same color for a longer time. Normal after 1.5 years.

Color calibration i9505

In perseus kernel for gti9500 is possible to change color calibration and improve luminosity, what kernel make this possible with 1905?
I love this fuction!!! No kernels for i9505 with colour calibration??
It's a matter of whether or not the hardware supports it.

I have 2 i9505. They have a very different color temperature, with the same settings and same stock kernel. I wonder hot to calibrate them to look similar and how to write that in some nvram. Samsung should calibrate these.. but they often are not. One of them looks orange compare to the other bluish one.

I also have 2 i9505s and the colour difference on both them is huge! one is a blue/purple tone, the other green/yellow.
It's crazy how different they are!
Same here. I wonder if a kernel supporting calibration can then save the settings in nvram. So that flashing back a stock kernel keeps the settings.
Obagleyfreer, try this: go to test menu ( *#0*# ) then tap on sensors and tap on "light sensor". And compare the two phones.
My white one gives higher values of R G B and W and lower CCT (color temperature) value compared to the black mist one.
I really wish to have a samsung tool to calibrate them.
do anyone have any info about the factory calibrations?

Gpad screen gamma is too low

Some of you may have noticed it's difficult to watch dark scenes in movies on the gpad. I think the problem is the gamma calibration, you can see it clearly on the pictures I took.
https://imageshack.com/i/nf96iaj
On the top you can see my nexus 7 2013, you can differentiate all the shades of grey from 1% white to 100%.
On the gpad, everything is solid black from 1% to 12% of white.
You can find the original image here : http://imageshack.us/f/594/6291.png/
How low can you go, on your gpad, before the grey melts with the black ?
Do you know an app to apply gamma correction ?
Here you can see the same picture on the N7 and the gpad. You can't even distinguish the guy's ear on the g pad.

I see the difference, and I knew it was there already also.. I'm sorry, but apparently gamma is not something that is doable. - I was looking to link you the app from market called "Screen Adjuster", however you want to look at this description, especially the last sentence. ;/
- dimming the screen 15-100% (below minimum system brightness)
- screen color and a contrast adjustment
- system brightness 0-100% adjustment
- functional widget (on/off, system brightness, settings)
- autorun option
Some phones have a color tint screen. This app have a possibility to try to improve colors on this kind of the screen by setting an additional factor RGB.*
The range of the dimmer is from 15% to 100% (it allows to dim the screen below a min system brightness value). Make a relief for your eyes during a nightly reading.
Furthermore, you can change fast the system brightness too.
The additional contrast factor can try to make the reading or a picture viewing more comfortable on some screens.*
The widget provides fast on/off service with a shortcuts to the Adjuster settings and the system brightness settings.
The application has the autorun option which works with the dimmer set above 22% (for the safety).
Note
A gamma adjustment is not possible to do.
You can of course try and download the app anyways and see if contrast or brightness will do anything for ya.
- In case you do download the app, remember that setting contrast low will result in problems with installing apps, as in you cannot hit Install, only cancel. To avoid this, open up Screen Adjuster and turn it off, install the app and turn it back on afterwards. It's something about lowering the settings to lower than what is "intended", I don't quite understand it and I find it rather odd. But it let's you install apps.. So I guess hooray.
That's all I got.

Thank you for your response, but I'm already using screen adjuster. I set the contrast at -25 and it helps a lot to see dark details.
Unfortunately, it has two side effects :
- it brightens the dark shades of grey, but also the black levels.
- I noticed that the contrast setting also affects the white making it look like light grey.
So the contrast setting in screen adjuster doesn't affects only the dark tones like it would on a monitor or a tv, it affects the contrast ratio.
I've found apps to make gamma adustment but it only works on some devices with custom kernel.

Yea, I was about to say that gamma can be done but only on custom kernels. Lot of Nexus 5 stuff on the market. Apparently it's Google who locked the gamma settings completely down but only in 4.4.2. I guess it may work on stock LG Kernel since it's only 4.2.2? I'm afraid we'll have to wait for some kernel support for other roms. That would be awesome. I really hope for some Franco-kernel-glory on this device.
That's what I thought, we need to wait for custom kernels...I hope it will come soon, because it's so frustrating to have such a good screen with bad calibration !
People tends to complain too much about the warm white balance but the gamma calibration is far more concerning.

Hi there Young Bobbie, I am new to posting on XDA so I couldn't post this in your kernel developer page. This is my first post on any forum page ever. First off, thank you very much for your hard work to make this kernel happen to correct gamma on the v500. I have been sitting on the fence whether to get the gpad, and if i would get the v500 or the v510. Was leaning toward the v510 because of Sleekmason's wonderful kernel work, but it's exciting that we have now have the same options available for the v500. I noticed this was working fully with the Malladus ROM. My question to you was whether or not this worked with stock LG ROM as well? Thank you again YoungBobbie and Sleekmason for your time and creations.
Sorry, just answered my own question. Guess it helps to read the very first line of the page (making fun of myself now ;-P) Thank you again YoungBobbie and sleekmason!!!

Be happy to. Have to acquire the device first, which will be in a matter of a week or 2
