Just got a nice new Axon 7 A2017U. I updated it to B29, which turned out to be a stupid mistake since I now cannot unlock the bootloader. I've been attempting to backup the stock stuff and also flash TWRP using tenfar's axon7backup.exe, but I cannot get it to actually go through. On one of my computers I get the "You cannot run this program in a VirtualMachine" error, and on the other 2 I have tried, the application just sits there with no output beyond "Version 1.10". I am able to make the program output errors when I input the wrong COM port #, but using the one that actually corresponds to my phone in EDL mode just hangs the program until I kill it with CTRL+C. All 3 of the machines I have tried to use are running Windows 10, not sure if that matters.
Has anybody seen this kind of thing and if so, did you find a way around this?
Would it make sense to look at downgrading the firmware on the phone to B27 so I can just use fastboot oem unlock like a normal phone? Also, with the bootloader unlocked do I still have to use the tenfar tool to flash TWRP? For now I'll probably just stick with the stock firmware, but I reeeeeally wanted to run CM13 on this phone.
Here's a screenshot of my cmd output for the curious:

Yes his command was wrong, but the "virtual machine" problem is irrespective of that. I finally used a W7 machine, but certainly like to resolve this.

There is an AWESOME key on your keyboard that is called PRINTSCREEN. You should try that out sometimes. It takes a screenshot of your screen. You don't even need to take a picture of your screen with a camera!!! :highfive:
Worked fine on Windows 10. Used the compatibility checker and I think it used Windows 7

You mean because I put "COM3" instead of "3"? Because tenfar's documentation explicitly states you can do either, and I have tested both. Please elaborate.

That's the only difference I could see between ours. I do have windows in test mode to disable driver signing but I can't imagine that makes a difference
Word, that's what I figured. Not a huge deal, just figured I'd try to get some more info on troubleshooting the application. In the meantime I already set up the stock ROM, and I'm honestly not unhappy with it so far. I disabled all the unwanted apps, and with both 64 GB internal storage AND a micro SD card slot, I can afford to have the extra stuff taking up some space The hardware on this phone is a god damned STEAL for $400 USD!
The tool is not running in virtual machines. You need a physical device with Q10 installed properly in order to run flawlessly. Let it install the drivers and then install the Qualcomm driver. For me it worked fine on first try.

Hi,
I am developper and I have a HTC Wizard.
I already have some experience in pocket PC development and I would like to install linux on my HTC.
The problem is I cannot even send command through a terminal.
I read a tutorial about how I can boot into "boot mode" (Press Power+Recording and after I can see the gradients color).
After I start a terminal application and I choose USB but I never got a prompt.
I don't undertand because I tried with different terminals and I have checked that ActiveSync is disabled.
What am i doing wrong ???
If some HTC wizard and Linux guru were here, maybe they could help me to start.
I am trying to do this, as well. But from what i understand it is VERY difficult.
to BOOT linux, you need 2 things: a kernel that can run on the omap and a program that will LOAD the kernel.
the omap has an arm926 processor. the omap is a cpu+other things.
to boot the kernel we need something like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loadlin
also we have to find a way to make the kernel show some output:
1. serial
2. lcd
also some input.
1. serial
2. keyboard
we have to compile an arm kernel and we have to find a way to boot that kernel. i have slackware linux on my laptopand i am trying to make arm simple kernel
the bootloader i can start, but i can not find a way to talk to it. i have searched and asked but i have not found anything. i am angry! i want to remove the bootloader it does not do anything! argh!
please if you are serious about this, tell me in an email or a personal message (PM)

look at this! http://garux.sourceforge.net/
Look at Xanadux on this forum's wiki. It might give you some clues as to the way forward. You could join in the effort. 8)

I know all this, what I just want to know is how to interact with my HTC in boot mode because if I cannot even send command how could I install a boot loader. I am trying to do things in steps.
The first one is to understand how I can dialog with HTC...
Use mtty and press enter to get a prompt.
I noticed someone out there has tried to make a lcd driver for the omap850. We need to know more about the device.
i do not think we need an lcd driver. we need only find the address of the framebuffer. i do not know... :/
I'm having the same problem.
Tried to install.....cannot even login.
How do I get the Hyper Terminal to talk to my Himalaya connect to my Windows XP using USB ?
jtag
dare i say we skip the cruddy boot loader and explore the possabilities of a jtag connection?

De-Captivated
I created this root and unlock combo modeled after the old iPhone jailbreaks which allowed you to unlock. Technically speaking this is not one click, but it is the single fastest way to do both. Right now it is only Mac, but it could come to PC eventually if I have time and find a tester. Remember, that if this application works I would really appreciate it if you donate.
It does the following:
Roots
Unlocks
Installs android-wifi-tether
Installs Market enabler
Sideloads
Required:
Mac
Samsung Captivate
Other carrier SIM card
How to use:
Just download the file from the link below or in the attachments:
Newest version
Now mount the DMG file and you should see this:
Drag the folder to the hard drive picture BUT NOTHING ELSE. Once the folder finishes copying just double click on the icon with the lock and run the program (it opens in a terminal window). It is VERY self explanatory from there and it includes step by step directions. I hope this program helps.
If you tried unlocking too many times:
It will then ask you for another code. Enter the unfreeze code that it gives you on the very last screen of the program. Enter that.
Donate:
This program took a long time to make and I would really appreciate it if you donate. Your donations will help me keep this program up-to-date. Currently I only accept PayPal donations at:

I don't have access to a OS X system to test this, but when you have a Windows solution set-up, let me know for testing.

Haha I thought you were serious for a minute. Yeah. Well for now its Mac only because PC's do not really handle shell scripts well. I will probably convert it later with the help of someone else but until then its mac only (and if you have linux you can get it to work if u change a few things)
I have added sideloading functionality to the app.

I am assuming that is it. If there is a weird folder with basically nothing in it that is probably a folder that Mac OSX adds to everything that is hidden but shows up on windows.

Oh, ok lol
The purpose of this program is to make my life easier when developing on the Android Platform. At he same time it may also make your life easier. I would like to keep this project totally open source and I include all of the source files withing the .zip that it comes in. What does this program do? It will allow you to flash custom ROMs straight from your computer, fast and hassle-free.
In this new version, I have done a ton of error/big fixes, rewrote quite a lot, and finally added wiping functionality. Enjoy!
Infiniflash REQUIRES that your device has ClockworkMod Recovery or any recovery that supports /cache/recovery/extendedcommand.
By the way, if you can think of a better name/icon for this program, please, please, please tell me.

I have a DHD as well and had the same issue. You must install the driver for it to work on your device.
1) Visit this link to download and install HTC Sync (which contains the driver): http://goo.gl/P3ZP1
2) After installation plug your device in.
3) To verify you have the driver, open the Infiniflash folder, hold the shift key and right click on the tools folder. Click open command prompt.
4) Now type in the command: adb devices
5) If your device showed up, it worked! Otherwise, try restarting or syncing your phone in HTC Sync, it should start working eventually.
6) Now that you have the driver, Infiniflash will *hopefully* work from now on.
Best of luck
Cheers.

This looks awesome, and I would use it but is there a different button for wiping to ext 4 and 3? All the roms I seem to switch between use different formats.
Thanks

By wiping to ext3 & ext4 do you mean formatting the /system partition to one of those formats? If so I might be able to implement it or make an add-on . By the way, which device requires you to do that? I've never heard of that before... are you sure it's a requirement?

Thank you very much! I think I'll port it over soon, but the only bad part about that is that I have no idea how to make GUI's in Linux so it would be command line only .
It's funny that you mention that though because I'm a Linux user myself and never really thought about it.
Hi I am new to this forum and I'm not an expert, I really would like to use the webtop without a dock,i tried following the instructions posted here but nothing happens, I don't know what am I missing. Am I supposed to run the install file on my computer or on my phone? When I run it on my computer a black screen appears and some command and then I says to press any key and that my phone will reboot, but nothing happens. Am I supposed to do something to my phone?
I'm on att gingerbread, not rooted, I enabled debugging mode.
Thank you
You need to root and probably deodex

You are probably right, but why then on Fenny's post it says no root or deodex needed??

you run the script from your computer but your phone has to be connected and have all the right drivers on your computer

ok connect your phone to hyhour computer and make sure the computer knows it is connected
then run the script
good advice
If I were you I'd be VERY CAREFUL and investigate and learn all you can BEFORE doing any mods on your phone. Too many phones have been bricked (rendered useless) by running things you know little about.
I did that but the doesn't do anything, it doesn't reboot like it says on the script. I know it's connected because when I enable debugging I see the pop up screen for the internal memory and the sd card
Thanks for your concern I really appreciate it.what I like about this is that doesn't require root
Root
Hi
I also had exactly the same problem.
I wanted webtop, without really rooting my device.
It didnt work out. Also ran the script no reboot etc.
I then rooted my device, Fenny assisted me to create 2 files for the stock 2.2.2 atrix 4g (The older version of the os)
I copied them manually using root explorer, rebooted, and walla, i had the webtop working.
I still have those files.....
If you need them, PM me, its worth a try...
Hello
Sorry if this was a very noob topic
I done lots of flashing new ROM or back in stock process but i almost gave up this time
My phone status are
No OS
TWRP installed
Can boot to recovery
PC can't recognize the phone
Typing ADB devices shows empty list
Typing Fastboot devices also shows empty lines
30% battery left
I recently try to install the Lollipop version for my phone but it turns out that the zip are behaving like OTA (yep the title of the zips are OTA)
What i mean is it returned my recovery to stock
Without thinking much further i did 'fastboot flash recovery TWRP2810.img' thing (Yes i rename recovery image that way so it will be more convenience for me) and wipe all partition in the phone through the TWRP without problems
One thing i forgot is to "refresh" all ADB and Fastboot driver for my phone on the PC
Now my phone states are "No OS" and "PC doesn't recognize my phone" wether in ADB (obvious cause i can't boot with no OS so no USB debugging for me) and Fastboot (Enter Bootloader is OK, enter TWRP is OK too)
I already try the WUG step for installing the needed driver but no success since my PC can't recognize my phone
Try on 4 PC at my office and all of them are ignoring my phone
What should i do now, please, any help will be appreciated since its already the time i ussualy already at home
Thank You Very VERY MUCH for any help I can get.

Extract the zip.
Once you're done extracting, boot your phone into bootloader mode, plug in USB, should show up as an unrecognized device.
Device manager from control panel, select device, properties, driver, update device driver, browse my computer, let me pick, all devices, have disk, navigate to where you extracted zip, select inf file, adb interface.
Should work.

Please lock this unuseful thread
Before locking the thread, can you repeat all the steps and try with ADB Composite Device instead of ADB Interface?
Also, did you try changing USB ports, sometimes these things get a little troublesome because of faulty USB ports.
Last but not the least, you could also try a change of cables.
