You know....I am soooooo fed up with this!!! and I need help.
I have auto-updating turned OFF and software scheduling updates OFF, and then now, I just connected to my Wifi connection and my phone started to download a 350MB software update bundle even though every AUTO Checking of Software Updates are TURNED OFF. I dont know why its still downloading updates when I have all of these disabled to automatically check for updates.
Please see print screens.
I DO NOT want ANY software updates to be downloaded especially I dont even know what updates they are.
Please help me on this. I want this to be disabled.
Just sick of this!!!!! I mean really....
Now, I do not really know what this 300MB update bundle was, but it wasnt the Android 4.3 update as I just checked.
I have no clue whatsoever on what updates were installed.
How can I check what updates were installed?
Thanks

If you have root you can disable Samsung updates by deleting FWUpgrade.apk and FotaClient.apk (and the odex files) with root explorer.

My phone is not ROOTED.
Can you post screenshots of this please on where I can find this in order to disable this?
I want to disable auto-updates because Im afraid it might "break" things.
Thanks, I would appreciate some print screens.
Will Android version 4.3 be downloaded automatically as well?
Now that, I will not mind if 4.3 would be installed automatically since I heard that should fix the "lag" issue on the screen on most S4 phones.

Ok, if I root my phone which I do not want to do then is there anyway to disable these updates?
I just want to conserve the phone storage space which is now approx. 8.36gb and therefore I do not want these updates.

Since your phone is factory stock an update wont break things.
Samsung updates are not to be feared.
And the updates. Dont waste space... as the software gets refines you get more.
I now have 9.1 gigs when I use to have 8giga when I just got the phone
Samsung is optimizing the software and it is getting slimmer.
Updates do not waste space.
So relax... it sounds like this is your first Samsung flagship.

You will get 4.3 automatically if you leave the software update feature on.
Samsung update services are decent.
For example the Samsung Galaxy S2 was updated to 4.1.2 via OTA even tho it is considered an old phone from the Gingerbread 2.3.4 - 2.3.6 era. (FEB 2011)

Yes.
But my advice... leave auto update on.
If you tap the check for updates button you may see an update but it wont download because the update server space is full.
Your fear is understood but unnecessary.
Its best to let it download by itself over wifi.
When it is done it will ask you if you want to update... it will not reboot your phone without you knowing.... nor will it install new software without you knowing.

Sorry, but one more last question. I tend to turn off my WiFi on my S4 most of the time even when I am at home.
Now I enabled the Auto Updates as you recommended. But as most of the time, I have the WiFi OFF and only enable it when I need to.
Will that be OK for the updates?
So far, I did not get the Android 4.3 update.

3G strains the battery much more than wifi bro, leave wifi on if you can for better battery life. OTA`s can be downloaded on 3G but wifi is cheaper and faster. 4.3 isn`t out yet, will take another 2-3 months for the official one, leaks may come earlier.

As the user above says.
Leave wifi on for better battery life when you are at home.
If you turn off wifi and do not want the phone connected to the internet make sure you turn off mobile data as well.
With your internet service off: The update will just take longer. I am not sure the updater service downloads the data in pieces as a torrent client or download manager would do.
So its best to leave it on... go to sleep and wake up to see the notification that the update has been downloaded and ready for installation.

If you have problems after update, you can make factory reset, which will erase all personal data from the phone and fix the errors, keeping you with the lastest firmware. Now you can go to application manager/all apps and find SoftwareUpdate. Disable it and I think, you wont be able to update before enabling it again. No root needed to do this.

No you can't roll back as you would on a PC from the phone itself.
What you will have to do is download the version of firmware you want and like and use a PC based software called ODIN to re-flash the phone.
If you do this you can keep your old settings (it wont wipe your personal data) and "roll back" to a version you preffer.
However updates seldom if ever break things in my region. I do not know about other regions.
For example: I keep my S4 STOCK STOCK STOCK so I have never had the need to roll back any update.. and nothing so far has broken in the 4 updates I have received over wifi.
Other people may have other experiences, possibly bad ones with apps crashing or the phone being slow.
So what they normally do in such a negative case is a Factory reset.
A factory reset will have the new firmware but it removes all your settings and downloaded apps and presents the phone as if it just came from the factory.
Your settings and apps will then be reloaded once you log into Google and / or your Samsung account.
So relatively speaking it is not a major hassle.

Hello,
Not sure if this is the correct forum to ask, sorry if it isn't.
I've noticed that after the lollipop upgrade I don't have the "smart lock" option in my settings->security. After digging through the www for a while it seems that I don't have the latest Google play services update (which brings the "trusted places" feature).
Is this correct? This is the reason I'm not seeing the "smart lock' feature?
Play store says I have the latest version (I currently have 436, which is NOT the latest version). Why? I got the play services update this morning and yet it's not the latest version. Should I wait a little longer for the update?
Is it safe to update the latest Google play services manually? apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-play-services/google-play-services-6-5-87-1599771-446-apk
Thanks in advance.

apk mirror is a site of android police to upload their apk's. i trust them and i installed stuff from there a lot of times. the apk signatures are correct and the apk update correctly to newer versions after the insallation. so it is a matter of trusting the source. i trust them so a lot of other readers.
android police is a serious site. so do your research about the site and decide for yourself if you are willing to trust them or not.
P.S. the reason that you don't have the latest version is that the roll out is usually done within the span of a few days to weeks depending of where you are. so the update will come eventually.

Well, in my case it's just a cool new feature I want to try out. I'll give it a few more days and if it won't come on it's own then I'll update it manually.
It's basically just getting the apk and running it (wherever it's located), correct?

you download the apk on your phone and install it like any other app. it is called side loading. there is an option under settings/security to allow you install apps outside the play store if you haven't done it already you must unclick it.

For the Nexus 4 (with Lollipop), I believe this is the version you want from apk mirror:
Google Play services 6.5.87 (1599771-436)
Edit: the notes section on apk mirror explains the version naming/numbering for the Play Services apks. The last three digits indicate which version of Play Services is right for your device.
I was notified immediately after upgrading to L that my Google Services are outdated and I was redirected to Play Store before even could get to home screen. Maybe it only happens after standard OTA...?

It's perfectly safe, as it is the exact same version you will recieve from play store.
I'm not sure what the problem is anymore.
I looked at a friend's Nexus 4 that was also updated with Lollipop and he has the same Google play services build as me and he still gets the 'smart lock' option.
Could it be something with the settings on my phone? Maybe I need to do something in order to enable it? I've already tried enabling a security lock screen but that didn't help.

In settings > security allow installation from unknown sources. Then go to this link and download the latest version of the play store (5.9.11). Open the apk file on your tablet and allow it to install. This is how I always manually keep the play store up to date on all my android devices, because I find sometimes they take to long to push the updated versions automatically.
Also you should consider updating your tablet to lollipop. Lollipop firmware files for all Tab 4 models can be found in this thread, choose any for the SM-T530. This doesn't have anything to do with fixing your original question, just a suggestion
Yes i know i already have 5.9.11 but its still not working

Oh I should've remembered to recommend in settings > application manager > all > google play store, try clearing data and cache for that app.
If that doesn't solve the problem you might have to update google play services, linked to here, just be careful because this one is a little trickier. Go into settings > application manager > all and select google play services. If the version number begins with a 7 (might look something like 7.9.53) you definitely need to update, if it begins with an 8, you probably don't. Assuming you do need to update google play services, you need to look at the last three numbers in the parentheses and match them with the apk file you download. There's a guide on the page I linked to that does a better job of explaining it than me, just read that before you try installing anything.
I have remove the cache and data but still not working, i also cant update play service it says "There was a problem while parsing the package" and the link you give me it says android 5.0+ but im using 4.4.2 KitKat

It seems like it's firmware specific issue. Have you tried to update/flash different roms to see if the issue still persists? Maybe the dev disabled too many things and it's causing incompatibilities.

I lost the "enable secret" button when i rooted my phone :/
I don't have it either :S it was there last week!
It seems that after the update to internet browser 5.0 (that brought new UI) there is no more private mode.
I think secret mode uses Knox
@waterdaan Perhaps it's something introduced in Internet browser v5, as it worked fine with v4 and I was rooted already.

Oh Ok. Thanks!
Whoever downloads it needs to be sure that their phone hasn't been altered. If so, it will break their phone. That's what happened to me and now I am trying to figure out a way to get it working again.
I can not go into the pick up and install ROM. I have an unofficial firmware and with the combination of vol + and power does nothing. please help
It's a matter of timing. I had to try it several times until I got the timing right.

Basically its not working with TA-1000 modified ROM (TA-1003)???
Since no one has yet: can anyone confirm success using this update on Chinese Nokia 6? I'm thinking of buying one from Taobao but want to be sure I can get 7.1.1. Thanks!

Likely not. I tried the one before and now my phone is useless until I can flash it.

My phone needed to be plugged into the computer before it would go into Recovery Mode when booting it with + and power.

Weird. Mine is as well and the update screwed it up. Had to re-flash the phone.
I have Nokia 6 (TA-1000)
The version number is 00CN_3_170 and the security patch is dated April 1, 2017
Can I use your update.zip to update my phone?
And how updated?

Why would you want to update to this July version?
I guess you must be already having Google Play Services and Google Play Store installed in your phone?
The July update is basically for users without Google Play Services and Play Store.
After installing this ROM you will have to download Play Store APK and install manually.

Neck. I have all the services of google plays ... i heard July bug fixes in Camera and language so i want to update.
Key for me is to get the power on pin security setting I believe came with may update... I am still on April security patch with play services installed... But never getting updates. Hoping the update would also get the pin option and latest updates should start downloading in the future. Is this not the case?

I think you should wait for the OTA update. Anyway there's no procedure given how to update this ROM manually?
I also have the same ROM as yours.
