Sprint LG V20 Gallery Content Lock Feature - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Hey there.
Anyone having any luck with the content lock feature with the Sprint variant? Since Sprint left out the LG gallery app on their phones, I went ahead and side loaded the apk file, and the app works, but the content lock is still a no go. Without root, had anyone been able to get this feature to with on their Sprint variant phone?

Official Sense 6 update waiting/sharing page

The news has it that Sense 6 is being rolled out to all Canadian carriers users, it would be nice to for those who received to share which carrier they are on, and provide screenshots if possible of the phone running official Sense 6
just want to know, did the camera have Manual control like the M8?
I read from different sources, that update is for unlocked version, but does not know if CDMA or GSM...
As promised earlier this year, HTC is in the process rolling out the first batch of its eagerly-awaited Sense 6.0 over-the-air (OTA) update to all unlocked models of its former flagship smartphone, the One (M7), currently located in Canada.

Any requests?
Edit: in screens of stock apps that have a solid colour, that colour is the changes the notification bar as well. This is not reflected in screen shots because pulling the bar down to activate the screen shot toggle colours the bar black!

So far as I can tell there is no theme settings which is a bummer. The new UI look is nice and updated, but not much else has changed. Just getting myself familiar with everything. I'm actually not too impressed so far, though I did better on the Marshmallow android game than on the Lollipop one xD

Thanks! Sprint's service is mediocre where I live but it's very cheap and they roll out updates promptly (or as promptly as Samsung allows). Still, no theming is disappointing even though they did bring over updates to the S-pen.
Time to look forward to N, if not OTA then via custom ROMs! The multi-window there is more robust and behaves more how I'd expect it to.
Adoptable storage will work if you use the S7 work around via ADB

lol gonna piss off some guys at work tomorrow who have limited verizon plans that no more Pandora during work (for now anyway).
Also there's the option to turn off Fast Charge now, not sure if the previous had this option.
One more thing, even after your battery goes below 15% you can still adjust the brightness slider. It doesn't turn dark and dissappear now like it used to.

Google assistant on Verizon

Hello I recently got my lg v20 and I saw that there were ways to get google assistant on non pixel devices. I tried to get it but I couldn't figure it out because Verizon got rid of some features. Has anyone figured out how to get google assistant on the Verizon lg v20. If see please leave a detailed tutorial on how to do it.

Are you rooted or looking for a non rooted way?

I'm not rooted I would prefer to get it without rooting. But even when I tried to root it the OEM feature was missing.
I have it on a rooted rom. The developer has it baked in. Of your stock rooted you can you an app called get assistant. But unrooted i haven't heard. Good luck.

Looking for LG stock calendar app

Does anyone have the stock LG calendar app working on an LS997 variant? I can install the app fine, but it crashes upon start. It would be really nice to have since I like how it shows the actual date on the icon.

It's the last of the stock apps I'd *really* like to get working on the V20. Messages, email (not exchange tho, boo), gallery and music all work for me, so it would be nice...
Thanks!

It's part of the LS997 ROM released by Team DevDigitel. I should be able to get an APK for you but it's probably just as easy to extract it from the ROM. With LG stock apk's YMMV.

I know this apk works since I just pulled it from a ROM that has it included and it was working with the ROM. There must be some sort of dependency that is keeping it from running. I'm going to see if I can do some reverse engineering on it to find out what that dependency is. If anyone can save me a step, I'd be happy to hear what that dependency is!
Did you ever figure this out because I would like to do this myself. Also, you mentioned you had the stock messaging app working. Would you mind sharing the apk and any special instructions not covered by this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/themes/stock-music-app-to-att-version-t3552963
Also, please share the calendar apk as well even though it hasn't worked for you. Maybe I'll have better luck.

Just saw this--I posted links to all of the working LG apps for LS997 unrooted phones somewhere. Once I find them, I'll link to it here.

Calendar App https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8dcSlY-Ip1-RUViZzJsNkJUMVU
Let me know if you get Calendar working!
UPDATE 2: I couldn't get the Messaging app to work this time. Not sure if it has anything to do with updating from ZV5 to ZV6...or maybe just that I'm no longer rooted?

I was able to get them installed but unfortunately both crash on launch. Thanks anyway. Maybe somebody else will get it to work and share their process here.
<RANT>I just don't understand why a service provider would choose to remove these apps in the first place. If not for the Google Voice integration I would have ditched Sprint years ago.</RANT>

You're not on Sprint (lucky you). For some dumb reason, hardly any of the STOCK LG APPS work on an LG PHONE. Makes perfect sense. I understand the desire for the carrier to make the phone "theirs" or to try to go with a more "vanilla Google" experience, but if I want to install LG apps on an LG phone, that should not be more difficult than rocket surgery.
My turn to rant >>> Unfortunately Sprint has the best coverage where I live and their prices are much better than Verizon's. Next time I'll just get an unlocked device. I would love to just root the phone in order to run stock apps, as I had before, but everytime I do there seems to be a malfunction and my phone ends up bricked (not from installing incompatible ROMs or kernels, I think I just flash the phone too many times?). Not to mention Sprint (and AT&T) has conveniently decided to not make the KDZ/TOT files available to the public. Let's not even mention the ridiculous static boot screen...

Someone in another thread suggested it might be a missing framework. I don't know enough about mobile development to be able to say that he was on the right path or not, but it seems logical to me. It's probably something buried deep in the system that would only be accessible by having root permissions.
I do wonder about the ability to achieve this through a terminal app and changing some permissions as the SystemUI Tuner app does in order to change status bar icons without root. Wish someone would work on that, or I wish I had enough knowledge to do so myself... oh well.

Yeah neither of the apps will work on non rooted phones... You can't add the other files to system without it.... And to be honest the Android messaging app sprint includes is better then the stock lg one...

Serious question: how does the method used by SystemUI Tuner work without root, and why wouldn't this method work for non-rooted phones and stock apps? If you're not familiar, the app requires non-rooted phones to use ADB to send a shell command 'pm grant com.xxx.xxx android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS' and 'android.permission.DUMP'. Perhaps there is code in the app itself to trick the system into thinking it has root using these commands?? You would know better than me...
I'm waving the white flag on this, however I am curious to know how that works. I might consider another carrier in the future however. Preferrably one that doesn't cripple stock apps.

Korean LG G6 Users! Downloading themes using LG Smartworld doesn't work in USA???

So I have the Korean LG G6 because I wanted the 64gb storage and the quad DAC. Everything is working great except when I go into settings and then to "theme". There are about 5 themes that come pre-loaded but you can download more by clicking on the down arrow in the upper right corner of the screen. This opens up "LG Smart World", which looks like some kind of LG App store that contains free themes and wallpapers, etc. However, everything is in Korean and if I try to download anything like a free theme or wallpaper, it tells me that "you are signed in to an account from a country where LG SmartWorld is not supported".
Does anyone have a workaround?
Thanks!
Xphyle
Are you on a US Carrier? And if so which one? I'm thinking about giving my [AT&T] G6 to the wife and getting the Korean one for myself.

Yeah, I'm on AT&T.
I have the Korean model on Cricket (ATT) and I downloaded themes straight from the Google play store and they appear on available themes http://cloud.tapatalk.com/s/58f6192dceb50/Screenshot_2017-04-18-06-47-28.png?

You cant download themes from smartworld because it will ask you to sign in or register and then it will tell you that smartworld is only available in south korea and not to other countries. As stated above, the best way to download themes is directly from play stoee, marck has some amazing themes and they are posted in the "themes" sub-forum
