whatsapp notification issue on V20 - LG V20 Questions & Answers

hey.
for some reason, i dont get notification on whatsapp even after disabeling battery optimisation for the app.
i get them for about 1-2 minutes after screen off and then i stop getting them untill I open the app again.
anyone having the same issue?
and even better, anyone found a workarround?

I don't have this issue. But I do notice that sometimes it wont vibrate but I believe that its because the phone was not locked. Go into whatsapp Settings then Notifications and make sure its all good.

hmm mine come through fine. only thing that annoys me are these new in line replies for 7.0. i liked that when i clicked the convo from the dropdown menu or heads up notification it brought up that popup where you can swipe between messages without having to open the app and conversation.....you can't see more than the latest message with in-line notifications so it's annoying, and you have to open the entire convo bc clicking it in the dropdown now opens the whole app. kinda sucks compared to before!

Thanks for posting.
I have the exact issue and it's really annoying!
I keep missing other people's message until I wake the phone and open the App.
Is there a solution?

Try go to notification setting turn on the light setting

Disable notifications?

I have to wade through so many notification messages every time I switch on my phone, its so annoying and there's no apparant way to stop them. Right infront of me, we have email notifications, sms notifications, alarm notifications, calendar notifications, and a battery warning notification! arrggh!! I can't access the calendar hardware button without clearing all these notifications first.
So, into 'sound and notification' settings and disable them right?
Wrong. It doesn't seem to make any difference. I've gone through each event such as 'Messaging: New email message', and 'Messaging: New text message', etc, and taken the tick out of 'display message on screen' but still I can't access the hardware button on the today screen without clearing the notifications first.
The search criteria required for answers to this problem online is too vague, you just hit on other subjects regarding notifications that are nothing to do with this. Can anyone offer some suggestions?
Thanks.

Which ROM are you running?
RE: annoying notifications
I couldnt agree more!
This happens with every ROM i have used including 2003, wm5 and now wm6 black 3.5.
The one I really want to get rid of is the battery low notifications.
Jees, it drives me mad.
Surely just altering a reg key?? I did a search in there but wasnt sure exactly where to look!
Hi, I'm having the same issue. I want to get rid of the missed call notification messages that pop up all the time. The missed call icon is enough, I don't need the message as well! It's very frustrating.
it's the notification queue
..and it's a known issue. hard reset will definitely cure it, or you could use scarybear's "check notifications" or similar to clear it.
I really hate the low battery warning icon nagging me when 40% of battery is still left!! help !

Message notification problem.

Hi Folks,
This is a small, seemingly insignificant problem but it's bloody annoying so I'm hoping you can help me solve it:
When I receive a new message (SMS, MMS, Email) the little message shortcut on the desktop get's the little green '1' overlaid to show there's a message. Once I read the message and reply it doesn't disappear. I can open the message in Chomp or the system default app and it doesn't seem to register with the shortcut - it still shows the overlaid green number.
I know this is something of a trifling problem but I have my phone on silent a lot so it does cause some confusion.
Thanks in advance.
i've noticed mine staying on for a while but then disappearing... maybe it sits there for another 10/15 minutes?
Could be. I have to admit that afer about 10 minutes I've been losing patience and deleting the message, which makes it go away.
do u read ur messages through the widget page? cause i noticed that if u do, then the little green ball remains but somehow if u click on the message icon with the green ball to access ur acc and read from there, then it goes away.
I think that may be a factor, yeah. When I read them through the 'drag down' menu, either with chomp or system default it stays, I'll open the next one through the icon and see if that changes things.
I find that the trackball keeps flashing too unless you actually tap on the Messages shortcut icon to read the new messages that come through (as oppose to viewing from the notifications menu or through the text messages widget). I hope HTC fix this issue 'cos not everyone wants to go through the messages app via the Messages shortcut icon.
Yeah, I only used the messaging icon yesterday and it was fine. The problem seems limited to when you use the 'drag-down- menu.

minor irritation regarding message notifications.

When i get a message I get a notification in the notification bar, but when i open the text the notification stays until I click on the text bubble and the text is displayed on a black background. Is there anyway to change it so the notification disappears as soon as i open the text?
Thanks
Agree, this is annoying the hell out of me. One time I had 50 text messages (conversations from 7 people) and I had too many notifications. WTF is up with that. LOL
if u use back to get out of the msg app it will go away

True, but I'd prefer if the notification went away when I read the message, sometimes I read the message and go to the home screen and the notification is still there until I go back in the message app and click back.
use handcent messaging app instead. it works properly. Also use a custom home screen so you can set handcent as your main messaging program icon at the bottom.
hope that helps

You can do that without a custom homescreen too. When in the applications menu, press the menu key and then choose 'Edit'. You can move the apps in and out of the bottom bar just like you move other apps around, by holding your finger on them for a second and dragging them.
Nope, this doesn' work for me. I use Handcent and like I said, even after many text messages, all the notifications won't go away. Just have to "clear" all of em.
Very annoying indeed.
To clear multiple message notifications (per contact) you'd have to hit menu button -> More -> Discard
It's very annoying.
I'm looking for a workaround too. I really don't min this phone at all, coming from a Touch HD hehehe this is a major improvement (speed wise, screen wise, response wise even features are up there) but I do miss my custom energy cookie roms which brought my touch hd back from the dead a few times over the last year.

I also do this for the meantime I can start customizing my phone...
I think the best way to fix this is use Handsent SMS program and disable messaging notification.
so far the back button seems to be working lol (i used to press home)
Ever encounter if u receive a notification, the preview name and sender is different. Meaning if you go inbox and read the sms, its the correct sender. If its at the notification bar, it another name. Hmm. Wonder why.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
What you should do is use SMS Popup to notify you of a new text message.
Without this is what I get when I get a sms.
1. SMS arrives, phone rings + vibrates or w/e it's set to.
2. I press home to turn on the screen, and I see a SMS notification, and a SMS notification on the lock screen.
3. I swipe the glass.
4. I scroll down the notification bar, or press launcherpro's SMS icon that has a badge that says 1 at this point in time.
5. I read the sms, at this point I have to...
6. Press back, this clears the notification in the top bar.
7. Go back to home screen, and click the launcherpro icon if I choose to use the notification bar.
The worst bit is that I could dismiss the SMS after reading it entirely in the drawer, or when I 'got' it and saw it displayed on the screen.
I'm pretty sure Samsung's SMS app is just broken and doesn't report intents properly when messages are still alive and read and such.
issue no longer there
I've tried to get FROYO going on my phone using the registry hack
unsuccessful but what I ended up with a rom that's fixed this sms notification issue when multiple sms's are received from the one contact.
Basically no BACK button or MENU -> MORE -> DISCARD
needed for the notifications to disappear. I'm only guessing that this is also going to be fixed with Android 2.2
My current version is:
Firmware 2.1-update1
Baseband I9000UGJH2
Kernel 2.6.29
Build ECLAIR.UGJH2

[Q] SMS text in notication bar

Hi guys, hope you can help!
Basically the embarrassing situation has occurred a few times now when I'm showing my friends some features of the DHD a personal text comes in which was meant for my eyes only, however the first two lines of it are displayed in the notification bar when it arrives.
Surely there's a way to stop this from happening!?
Cheers!

If you're using HTC stock messaging app then there is no way to stop it. A solution would be to use messaging apps from the market like Handcent SMS and the likes. It will give you the ability to pop the notification but does not show the content.
I've just had a friend ask me this as well. Wanting just a notification sound and icon rather than disclosing the sender or the message body on the lock screen or in the notification bar.
I've got a DHD and don't mind if people see what i'm receiving, even to the degree that i've installed an app called ChompSMS which brings up a window on the homescreen displaying the full message.
I had a fiddle with the ChompSMS settings and it seems that you can increase the privacy settings to make it anonymise the notification, however as soon as you unlock the phone it will still show the full text in a window - I only fiddled a little bit, but couldn't find a way of disabling this without losing other features.
I uninstalled ChompSMS (for the purposes of this experiment) and had a look round at the generic (HTC) messaging settings and it seems like it's all or nothing, as soon as you turn off the 'received notification' option it greys out the options below it, meaning that you get no notification whatsoever when someone messages you (except for the green circle on the messaging widget - if you have this on your homepage).
I'm going to try installing Handcent (another popular messaging app) to see if I can make it do exactly what my friend wants done. I'll message back if I manage it.
Mike.

Dismissing Notifications

When I get app notifications for things like text messages or emails, entering the app directly and opening the corresponding message does not dismiss the notifications from the notification center. Is this normal behavior? I thought Lollipop did, but I could be mistaken. I either have to swipe the notification off, or click it to open the app to dismiss it.
I noticed the same, found it irritating and I got way to many notifications from all sorts of stuff, App's and OS. Eventually I disabled all notifications. The phone already makes a sound so i don't need any visuals.
I am getting the same issue, any fix/ workaround to get rid of the notifications?
In my case this seems to depend on the application. Whatsapp does this annoying thing, while Gmail and Inbox do not. I think that most apps are not yet updated properly for Marshmallow support.
