512GB OTG - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

If I format a 512gb stick to 2 256gb drives will the S7 recognise the two drive simultaneously?

Calling all Oneplus Veterans! OTG drive with SD card

The OP5 will be my first Oneplus device, and also my first device without an SD card slot. I currently have a 128gb card that I would like to keep using by way of OTG adapter. Does anyone have advice for those of us switching over as to which OTG drive/ adapter to get and the limitations some might have with OP devices?
I specifically would like one that I can keep the SD card inside the OTG drive and then just have it on my keyring.

I think this is what you are looking for:

Sadly they don't have plans to make a USB C version, but it will work fine with a Micro to C adapter.

I recommend these adapters.

Usb c card reader

Anyone know if they work on the oneplus? I'm looking at getting a oneplus and uploading things on a SD card reader and using a SD card reader when I'm on the plane rides

I don't own a Type-C card reader but I do use a Type-C OTG cable with my regular USB card reader and that works flawlessly so I don't see why it wouldn't work. Only thing is, from what I've experienced, not properly ejecting the card reader "corrupts" the micro SD card even though I can actually transfer files into it from my computer.
It would need to be via an OTG cable as most don't have that function built into the card reader.

Nagging issue with OTG Thumb drives (not detected)

So this wasn't always a problem, and I can't say when it happened, but it has begun to annoy me more recently.
OTG storage used to work. Something like six months ago my Galaxy S7 Edge (Android 8.0.0, Verizon, Developer Options Enabled) stopped recognizing when I plugged OTG storage devices into the phone.
The two USB thumb drives I primarily use are:
SanDisk, 128 GB Ultra Dual USB Drive (USB 3.0 / Micro USB), formatted ExFat32
--> This is not detected when directly plugged into the micro USB on the phone, nor when connected by USB OTG cable
SanDisk, 32GB Ultra Dual USB-C Drive (USB 3.1 / USB-C), formatted Fat32
--> This I can only connect with an OTG cable, not detected
Both of the drives work on Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 and Tab S4 (I got the Tab S4 for Christmas).
The only way I can easily get files onto the S7 Edge is by connecting it by USB to a laptop.
I don't see any settings that would turn on or off OTG Storage in the settings. I don't want to reformat the drives, I've tried that many times.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be keeping them from being detected? I have the pro versions of ES File Explorer and Solid Explorer both on the phone.
Thanks,
Joe
Hey Joe, I realize this is almost a year old but did you ever find a solution? I've just formatted my DUAL USB (128GB) to exFAT and it is no longer recognized by my Galaxy S7 Edge. Any hints greatly appreciated. Cheers, Scott
I have not been able to get the S7 Edge to recognize external storage / USB togo memory. I gave up trying; transfer files directly from pc to the phone now. I assumed it was a software update that killed usb memory access, but never was able to confirm.
Sorry,
Joe

Tab s7+ 5g, Amazon Basics USB Type-C to USB-A Male 3.1 Gen2 Adapter Charger Cable and windows 10

Tested with a 5GB file.
So with the cord, internal from the tab s7+ is fast as heck - so fast that resource monitor would not register the speed " windows 10 resource monitor/disk", sd sandisk 1TB sdxc from the tab through the cord 70MB/s. Android 11 oneui 3.1 to windows10, 2 samsung 840 pro's in raid 0.
S10+, the same.
But from micro sdxc card through a usb 3.2 card reader, 6 times faster than through the tab > cord > win10.
The tablet sd card inferface is the limitation, same goes for copying from sd card to internal from within the android system, 70 MB/s.

So I wanted to be sure I understood what you were saying and the application or situation you are in .... I use a Sony a6600 camera for videoing basketball games. Files are on a micro SD card (in camera with an SD adapter). Files are 8 to 12 gb sometimes. I have to put them on the S7+ for viewing, editing, and most importantly to transfer with an uploading app.
I just need the fastest way to get from the SD card to the device. I have a USB adapter (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0779BWW8...abc_N1KD13X40YYR8AAH7SCJ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1)
Do you have a faster way .... Or are you doing something different??

USB/HDD capacity on Head unit

Hi,
Can someone explain to me why many Android head units will have a 64GB limit on a USB stick but far higher on HDD. Below is from a Joying unit specs.
USB/SD slot maximum compatibilitySupports USB flash drive and Micro SD card with up to 64GB of storageHDDSupport external hard drive with up to 500GB storage
I don't think those are generally accurate. I'm using a 128GB USB flash drive with no problems. I've read some use an external 1TB SSD.
I think biggest issues are format (FAT32/NTFS/etc) and power requirements of what you plug into the USB connectors. For drives with a higher power requirement, you'll need to power the drive some other way. There may be other considerations.
I can't say what will and won't work, though. If the vendor gives you those specs, you can't complain to them that a larger drive than specified doesn't work. You'll just have to try what you have to see if it works.
