Adoptable Storage Question - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Has anyone had luck setting up their SD card as internal storage?
I'm using the Lexar Professional 1000x SDXC UHS-II/U3 card on my non-rooted Verizon LG V20. I had no problem setting it up on my Nexus 6P. On the LG I only get the option to set it up as portable storage.
Thanks

Not sure you can do this on 7.0

does that mean LG V20 doesn't allow "adoptable" storage?

Yes, LG, Samsung and many other brands removed adoptable storage from all their smartphones. AFAIK HTC supports this feature, even on their old models that received Android 6 update.

That's because you don't need it.

There is no need for adoptable storage. That's why it's not there. For pictures and videos, you can choose to save to sd card. Same with apps.

Even if adoptable storage were an option,I'd avoid it like the plague:
Even with the improvements in SD Cards of late, the speed/quality is no match for the internal storage.
If you're running low,use the SD Card for items that don't require high performance.
I believe the initial intent for adoptable storage was aimed for phones with extremely low storage capacity (Android One devices).
Perhaps there's development on adoptable storage for the rooted V20 Community,IDK if it's even possible.

This. And with the generous internal storage available on the V20, why would you need adoptable storage?

A little bit off topic: What actual speeds are you getting on the V20 using the UHS-II card? Can you please post a benchmark from your phone?

http://www.modaco.com/news/android/...e-adoptable-storage-on-your-s7-s7-edge-r1632/ this worked on my lg 8x tab and my wife's LG stylo so I don't see why it wouldn't work for this phone. But I would Definitely recommend to do it on a new SD card because of the SD card goes you'll lose a lot of data and nothing can read the card but your phone because it will be encrypted. I also recommend the Samsung evo+ that he has in the writeup.
On a side note, I had a Sandisk using the 50/50 mixed method and it died in a month. I bought a Samsung evo+ and am using it as 100% internal and seems much faster and has not given me any problems yet

Can you use 64 GB microsd

I was wondering if it is possible to use a 64 GB microSD card with my MT4G. If so, what ROM do I need? I searched and the only thread I found was a thread from 2011 saying that the cap is 32 GB because that is the limit of microSDHC. I found a good deal on a 64 GB card and would like to get it if I can use it.
Yeah it will work, but you won't get the claimed speeds due to our old hardware.
Just format the card in the phone and you're good to go.
what is the speed I will get with the card? I'm looking at a class 6

Not sure. I'm doing research on this. I know the card will WORK on the mytouch 4G, but I don't see any mytouch 4G specific speed tests. I saw where a newer phone got better speed on sdxc class 6 than sdhc class 6, but again that's newer hardware.

What kind of speed tests are you guys looking for? I have a 64GB microSDXC card in my MT4G. I'd be willing to run a couple tests if you guys are looking for any specific information as long as you tell me what you want done.

A lot of the performance gain seen with SDXC cards comes from the new file system included- exFAT. ExFAT is not supported on our device, at least not in any ROMs I've used since getting mine. I'm not sure if different ROMs can include the necessary changes to allow exFAT usage. If I had to speculate, I'd say it probably depends on firmware updates to the card reader in the phone that we likely won't ever see.
Instead, to achieve functionality, you must use your phone to format the microSD card before it can be used. As a result, we won't be able to see all the benefits the newer, higher capacity cards have to offer. An SD booster application may still be able to speed things up a little, just as it could with the older cards. I just wouldn't expect too much.

My microSDXC card is a Sandisk Class 10 200x 64GB SDXC. The formatted capacity of my card is 59.4GB. I have about 31GB of free space. This card was NOT empty when I ran these tests. I'm not sure that would effect the tests at all, but if so, this should lean more towards real performance rather than results you'll never see once you start using a card.
Here are a few speed tests:

Seeing as Samsung didn't mention a 64GB version during the official Note 4 announcement, I doubt there will be one any time soon, if ever.

Let me know if you find anything , I have googled it nothing much . Found an Infographic Stating there are two storage options 32/64 GB
Get you a good microsd card, I just got a 128 gb SanDisk microsd card...the latest versionm..it's very fast with reads and writes
Not sure why there would be a need for 64gb internal storage option when sd card can expand to 128gb as well as the fact most people have free cloud storage of many gig as well
only 24GB

As far as I know you can't move apps to SD card
That`s the reason I didnt buy yet Note 4. The internal storage is too little for this flagship.
No one`s know if will be in the next 2-3 months a 64GB ?? More I cannot wait.
The 64gig models are usually very rare because Samsung takes its sweet time to release them and when they do, its in very little quantity. If you are desperate to load 10+ huge games on your device, just move everything else to the microSD and commit your internal just for these apps. 32GB is enough really...
Maybe for you, the internal storage is used better for 4k recording, with microSD it lags sometimes (or when I modify [they are some hacks already] the bitrate to higher I dont want to think what can happen to a microSD)

Performance Impact of Honor 5X when 64GB external memory card is installed?

Hi All @xda,
I wanted to inquire if anybody has hands-on experience of using a 64 gb memory card with the Honor 5X smartphone and also does the phone support installing apps on external SD card.
Any leads will be helpful as I'm about to buy the phone.
TIA ,

Does the phone start to hang after data is filled up in the SD card?.I mean does the performance(snappyness) slows down?

No issues here as well. I have tried with both 32GB and 64GB cards.
Just make sure that you are using a Class 10 card.

[No Rooting Needed] Enabling "Adaptive Storage" Option.

Recently I found a thread where a member could easily enable Marshmallow's adaptive storage feature which was hidden by Samsung. Good news is that you don't need to root your device for that. Just the knowledge of adb will do.
My concern is, that member has tried the method on his Snapdragon variant. So, is there anyone who has tried it with his Exynox device? I would like to know the success rates from you before trying it out myself.
P.S I don't think variants would matter much.
I am very interested but I don't want to format everything. Too much time consuming

I was considering doing this as I had a new sd card to use, but when I found out how badly this affects the phones read/write speeds I opted to wait for a alternative method.
I don't really wanna sacrifice the phones snappyness

I did a 50-50 split and it works great! Some apps get the available storage values wrong but this really works well, no speed issues.

I think there's no other alternative methods unless Samsung releases an update, unhiding the feature.

Good to know that it worked for you. I had a few questions though:
1. Is your device an Exynox variant?
2. How did you verify that it worked well? As per the article, the storage values shown by default will get messed up. So which file manager app did you try out for verifying the partition made?

I have adaptive storage enabled since day one on my Exynox variant S7 Edge, it will work fine!
I should post too, based on my experience, enabling adaptive storage may reduce the cards lifespan to around 2 years.
Background, I own 5 Sandisk Micro SD cards (128 GB variant.)
The 1st one I purchased was from Amazon on May 2014 and that was purchased for exclusive use with my Galaxy S4, specifically for Foldermount (obb folder to sd) and Link2Sd (apk to sd, allocated a 10 gig partition for moving apps)
My Galaxy S4 retired August this year and and migrated that sd card to the S7 and adaptive storage it. Last night it died
(write protected)
Am I surprised I only got 2 years out of the card? Not really, using it in this manner will significantly increase the number of writes to the card. Will I still be using adaptive storage in the future? Absolutely!! I purchased the card for $120.00, so that means for me it cost $60.00 per year for the extra space I guess that isn't too bad!?
The other thing you may all want to consider, if you have an addiction flashing the latest and the greatest then you may want to steer clear of adaptive storage, each time you flash a new rom you have to re-partition and re-format the Micro SD twice, then restore your files, so with every rom upgrade, you may significantly wear your card. Something to think about...
120 USD!!!????

I read it does according to the PC Mag review, in addition that it does support SDXC (which support 32GB up to 2TB) http://www.pcmag.com/review/346194/zte-axon-7.
I saw a thread in the ZTE forums with the same question, apparently it does work. Look at the first comment. https://community.zteusa.com/thread/12189
