Did the same here!
Glad to see that this was useful to others.
Be aware that it might turn itself on again when you turn your gps on as it did me. :silly:

Yeah, it started randomly. I uninstalled apps and nothing seemed to fix it. I factory reset and it stopped so I loaded a recovery and it started again... I screwed around in settings and found WiFi scanning when WiFi is off and said "BINGO" no Google search found the answer lol

I think there is a reason it will not show up in a google search as that would mean that more people would know that they are being spied on by the google empire ?

Hi guys, haven't seen this one discussed yet. If so, pardon me. Anyway, here we go.
I spend quite some time on the road so I installed my old pal Navizon on my THD. But know I'm cannot get the wifi pop-up turned off. So far, I found three places to switch it off: in Navizon itself, through settings/sounds en settings/wifi. But the the wifi popups keep coming back, making the phone virtually unworkable because they pop up every 2 or 3 seconds.
Does anyone have the same problem? Can someone tell me the right registry keys? I found one, but I think this is controlled by more then one key...

yeah, I know. Been there, done that. Did not work. It really annoyed me so I decided to clear the storage en start over. Alas, also this time the wifi popups keep coming up even though I unticked the frigging box.
Any thoughts?
How about putting the comms manager in the start menu then just pushing WIFI off when you don't need it. I normally turn off WIFI like this to preserve battery...
EDIT: I don't know much about the app you're using...

Same problem here. I also unticked the "notify" option, but the popups keep on coming up. Does anybody know of any registry hacks that resolve this?
Is this isuue still not sorted? I have installed the latest official HTC firmware and it still occurs. Does anyone have an answer to this?
Ok about a couple hours ago I noticed my wifi would turn itself on multiple times, and I turn it off and it keeps coming on, I think it does it when I put my phone to sleep, im not sure. I think it started happening since I installed the Blue Star 5 theme. Any ideas?
Stupid question... but you don't have Locale installed do you?
Figured I would ask. I have mine set up so that it would automatically fire up my wifi because although I get 3G outside I can't get it through my mighty wooden walls where I live. Go figure. Every so often I guess Locale looses my position and it puts me on and off the network. Pretty annoying. So I disabled that and installed some apps to keep my wifi on even while my phone sleeps. There's a few out there, Wifi Insomnia, Wi-Fi Lock, KeepWiFi are a few that I have experiment with. Although since I have all three installed now... I'm honestly not sure which one I'm using.

Hmmm. Well... maybe try seeing if it does it in safe mode if that doesn't work. If it does it in safe mode too then I dunno. If it doesn't then it's probably an app messing with it.
I heard it could be ShopSavvy that is causing that.
If you have an app like keepwifi that basically keeps your wifi signal on, that might be whats causing it. If not, you might want to try other apps that require things such as internet access or access to settings.
We need an list of apps you have installed. Power Manager will do this also.
I too am having this problem!
Sometime the wifi doesn't stay on and I only knew it was turning on thanks to wifi toggle's symbol at the top.
I am running JF's 1.43 RC9 with root etc etc.
The apps I have installed are:
ASTRO
Download crutch lite
DroidFtp
Droidsans tweak tools
fBook
GPS status
JF updater
Meebo
PapiJump
Picasa
Pkt auctions ebay
Ringdroid
Scrambled net
Shazam
Shopsavvy (my suspisions are on this one!)
Skype
Sms awake
Toggle wifi
Thanks
Phil
Okay, figured out what it is. Its the theme u downloaded. Couple hours ago my g1 started turning on the wifi whenever it felt like it.I figured it was something I downloaded recently but I downloaded apps to check them out& then uninstalled them.apps have no effect after u uninstall them.then u mentioned the theme u just downloaded. Well go figure,I just downloaded the same theme wit a few others today.then my wifi started acting up.concidence? I think not.
Lol let me know how u do.
Hmmm, im not sure if its the theme, someone mentioned the setting on ShopSavvy, after I took it off it hasnt been turning on. I still have the theme on btw, but I modified it, so it may have been ShopSavvy
wifi not turning on
My problem is different my wifi wont turn on? if i start my wifi it will show a message that wifi failed to turn on... Can anyone help me on this
Weird, i had shopsavvy from day one, never encountered such a problem. still have it, and deleted the theme. Now the wifi is back to normal. problem with the G1 is, everyone can have the same problems or issues but different solutions with each device lol. the beauty of the G1.
Btw, does anyone know if the "shake awake" app really kills the battery?

ShopSavvy is a definite cause of this problem. I've been in touch with the developers over it, and they have admitted that there's a problem with the WiFi coming on randomly
they've assured me that the next update will fix it. i hope so, because ShopSavvy was useful until it started doing this
here you go guys............i posted this in the Tethering thread as well. this will fix the issue. it is indeed Shop Savvy, but heres the fix, just copy and pasted from my other post:

1. On your G1, open the Shop Savvy APP
2. once Shop savvy's screen shows up, SELECT settings
3. select PRIVACY
****you will see a phase that says "find my location" with a button to the right that will say "ON"****
4. press the button, now it should say "OFF"
5. Exit out of Shop Savvy
Voila.........no more disconnects. I have been tethering for 2 hours non-stop. happy tethering.
my wifi keeps today also itself on
I never installed Shopsavvy. So that cant be the problem.
I didnt changed anything today on my phone

yes, this fixes the issue of ShopSavvy randomly switching on the WiFi and disconnecting ongoing sessions, but it completely renders the most useful thing about ShopSavvy useless.
I've been beta testing the latest version of ShopSavvy, and it doesn't seem to be doing this random WiFi anymore. It is also a version of ShopSavvy that is compatible with Cupcake 1.5.
This happened to me twice today, and started today.
The problem is I see togglewifi in my notifications which means wifi is turning on and has not connected. Then i see GPS icon trying to get a lock on. The wifi eventually connects and after a while GPS icon is gone.
Note: this only started today and task manager only has these programs running at the time: Hello aim, Market, Messaging, Weatherbug, Wall calendar, ToggleWifi and Task manager.
PS. GPS is off for weatherbug and I remember updating Skymap, HadyCalc, and shopsavvy today. It is annoying because it will drop my AIM connection from transitioning 3g to wifi.
Anyone have a solution?
It is ShopSavvy. It installed a service with the latest update. Apparently you can go into the settings and turn it off, but I just removed it because it pissed me off that it would do this without warning.

Thanks, It seems it is shopsavvy and I disabled it. However I'm with you that it irritate me a bit that they would turn on wifi even though I am connected through 3g.
Ditto on shopsavvy, thats a very annoying "feature" they added. It took me a while to figure it out for myself as i had just rooted my phone and was installing all my apps over.
WOW!!!
I thought I was going crazy...thanks, I'll get rid of shopsavvy and hope they ditch the feature, seriously how often do I find myself using the program in an area where it can get a gps fix anyways?
good find
i've been wondering about the wifi turning itself on, too.
thanks.
I been having the same problem thank god i found this post cause its been getting to me and i have been wondering if its effect the battery life. Well will disabling my location in shopsavvy fix this problems?
Yes, just be sure to reboot the phone once you have disabled it. I believe the developer posted on another forum that you need a reboot to get it to stop.
i noticed this too a while ago
http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f12/shopsavvy-invasion-of-privacy-14189/
I was wondering what had happened. Just recently rooted and was hoping that it was not something pertaining to that.
BTW... I am new to the forum...
The plethora of information available as well as the minds associated with XDA is unreal! Thank you all for your insight!

Anyone else having the issue?
Sound off.
What problem?
If your talking about the lack of screen rotation on lollipop, then yes, I am having that problem. The strange thing is, I swear it was working right after I upgraded but now it's not.
Mine worked immediately after the upgrade then quit. It was turned off in the settings. Turned it back on and have had no issues since.

Mine got turned off in settings, too. It was on at first. Just pull down your toggles and turn it back on. If its not that, I have no idea.

I tried that, I tried everything I could think of. I even got Verizon on their Chat service and spent 45 minutes trying to figure it out. Their solution was to get me a Replacement (refurb) with 4.4.4 on it... HA NO!
Hello All,
So a few days ago I received an update with Baseband Version N910CXXU1DPI1
After the update completed and the device restarted, I noticed the wifi keeps going on and off on and off if it's not connected to a wifi network. I went to the wifi settings to make sure if any other wifi settings in the advanced menu are ticked and found that nothing is ticked which is good.
The problem disappears only if I restart the phone. Is this a common problem with this update or is it just me?
Thanks
Hi me too, I have similar problem after update to N910UZZH2DPJ2.
When I turn off wifi, the wifi icon in the notification toggle switch on and off automatically, i.e. turn green and grey automatically.
When I go into wifi settings, the switch also turn on and off automatcally non-stop.
They will stop when I connected to wifi.
I have already do a factory reset, it doesn't fix the problem. Any idea how to solve it? Thanks!

I think someone needs to report this to Samsung....I would do so but I'm not sure how. Let's just hope for a small patch that will fix this issue..it's very annoying
Yeah me too, Wiped the cache and still nothing. Wifi keeps randomly restarting off and on until i restart. But the problem comes back after restart................... Can someone Please help us all....
Thanks for the feedback guys. Glad I'm not the only one with this problem. I think I might just flash with Odin to the previous version, or if someone can help us that would be greatly appreciated.
Is there a way we can report this bug to Samsung?
I'm having this issue also. Is this why I'm seeing lots of posts about folk downgrading to 5.1.1; issues with the 6.0.1 roms/basebands? Before I updated my firmware I had the issue reported by another user on here where my WiFi kept turning off immediately after I tried turning it on.

I never had an issue with Marshmallow except for this random wifi on off issue in the latest update. Been on stock rom since I got my phone back in December 2014 !!!
Hey everyone I was able to temporarily fix this issue by turning off wifi scanning in (Settings > Location > Improve Accuracy). I heard somewhere on here it might have been a recent app update that is causing the issue.

Thanks for the tip 93_teg. Going to give this a try and report back.
@93_teg I did your solution and so far it seems to be working. No more Random wifi on off issue, let's hope.
Thanks for the help
@93_teg thank you so much for sorting this out it switches off now without restarting :good::good:
Thank you for the fix, I spent waaaaay too long troubleshooting this issue. I think the next step on my list was sacrificing a lamb but this works too
today's update(N910F PHN) didn't fix it.
it's probably the latest Google play services update that caused it, it received an update shortly after the October security update.

Probably, I seem to have had the issue start same time as everyone else here, and I'm on the t mobile version N910-T, and my last OS update was October 1st
I appreciate your solution, I'd working for me, i start to feel crazy, and I want to sell the phone, but I don't, thanks, sorry by my english

I received an update on my phone yesterday but have Postponed it...going to see whether it fixes the issue or not.
Thanks to all who participated in the thread...greatly appreciated
Workaround
Hello,
I confirm that the issue is due by the Service Google play. The workaround, to stop the Wifi is blinking, is :
Parameters > Applications Manager > choose system applications (Three dots) > select Service Google Play > Stop forced (and possible Stockage and clear cache).
This workaround works after each use of the WiFi.
And now wait a solution from Google (and Samsung may be).
Thanks
