As far as I know you have to go via twrp or Odin to root the J5.
Can you flash twrp then flash the supersu via twrp.
There are lots of good threads on here with the links and guides.
Good luck

Hi
i tried flashing both recoveries but none of them showing up my grand2 always end up in stock recovery.
does this has anything to do with qualcom secure: enable ?
there are no errors while flashing through odin
try flashing cf auto root first.
i had the same prblm in 1 of the grand 2 updates the custom recovery wouldn't show so then i flashed cf first and then the recovery

What TWRP file are you flashing.? >> v2.8.7.1 grandprimevelte.img.tar
Also..are you setting Odin3 to "No Reboot".?
Once the flash is complete via Odin3, and the device is idle at the "Download" screen..then unplug from PC, then pull out battery, and then with device off, boot to recovery in the normal manner..(using the three buttons)
If the device is rebooted after flash in normal manner, the device will revert to stock recovery, anotherwords, the flash will not stick/take..

Sir..make absolute sure, you have a good download, and the correct TWRP file for your variant and the file must be (.tar) format..

You need to flash back to stock firmware, go into settings, and activate developer options and allow OEM or Manufacturer Unlocking.
Download TWRP 3.0.0.0 for the SM-G531H ; https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2HNHICQEUaCUFNiSGpTdEQwanc/view?usp=sharing
Flash using latest odin
When your phone restarts for the first time you need to hold Home and VOLUME UP to make sure Twrp patches your rom to use it as recovery.
After, Flash the latest SuperSu.zip and reboot.
Don't forget to install supersu or superuser from play store after!

I haven't noticed any difference between tar and tar. md5, Odin recognises and successfully flashes both.

Did you flashed twrp on Ur device?
for install cfautoroot you must install twrp.tar on your PC (download from here https://dl.twrp.me/klte/twrp-3.0.2-2-klte.img.tar). then you must flash it via odin.
to flash it make sure you installed your device drivers on PC and enabled USB debugging in developer options.
then boot your phone in downloading mode by pressing power+home+volume down button. then connect your phone to the PC. open odin app and choose the recovery.tar you install from the link i gave you. flash it and wait until finish(maybe 2 or 3 min) and then reboot your device to recovery by pressing power+home+volume up button. flash your cfautoroot and enjoy [emoji5] .

I get the same exact thing on a sm-g900t3 (Galaxy S5 - tmobile, north America) Oddly enough I can get https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxys5qualcomm.html installed no problem, but whenever I try to install root, either the supersu.zip via twrp or chainfire's autoroot directly from his site, it just bootloops into recovery.

I actually got it working, by installing a different version of supersu. The one I had was an update-supersu. I then found the full version and it worked. It did reboot itself a couple of times. The cf autoroot did not work for me at all. I opened it up in 7-zip and only saw cache and recovery, nothing related to supersu. I would like to tell anyone that the roms from sammobile did work, but I had to try a couple of them before i found the one which would flash properly.
If you extract the boot.IMG (or recovery.IMG I don't remember but not cach.ext4) and flash it via TWRP it does the trick. That's what worked for me.
I have found my TWRP https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=56315 for marshmallow the flashing process with odin works no problem when i try to boot into recovery I get the stock recovery.. Tried downloading different places with no luck. It get flashed by odin but doesn't work?

You should make a search before posting a question. Here's my thread of twrp recovery for J5 MM. Everything's explained over their in detail just download the recovery for your device model and follow the flashing instructions. The link that you are referring to is twrp recovery for Lollipop.
