Hey guys. Noob question alert. I'm still running the android august update on my 6P. Why am I not getting the latest October/November update? Thanks in advance.
Rooted? Unlocked BL? if so, that is why.

Nope. No root and locked bootloader.
Same problem here. Stuck on October security update
In my experience they're kinda random but you'll get them eventually. This is why I prefer to flash the updates manually as soon as they come out. Plus, if an OTA messes up your phone and you have a locked bootloader, your options are very limited I'm fixing the issue. An unlocked BL for me is more of a safety net than anything else.

Hello,
I have a question... If I root and unlock bootloader on my Nexus 7, will I be able to recieve OTA updates? I'm asking because of come of new Android 4.2
Thank you for all your answers
You can definetely receive the OTA Update being rooted and unlocked, mine just rolled in.
Didn't install it yet due to being unsure about CWM working after the update, I'm abroad right now and will do this at home with a PC nearby

Wow thank you so much for quick answer And I have one more question... after update, will it be still rooted? Or I have to root it again?
When the time comes for Verizon to push the Marshmallow update, do I take it? I would like to eventually root/rom my device.
Would this update potentially break any vulnerabilities in the bootloader that may be present in lollipop?
You should already know this answer...no do not take the update

That's what I figured, thanks!
We can't root the phone because the factory bootloader is locked, that has nothing to do with the OS version.

So it may be possible if either Motorola or Verizon release a tool to unlock it?
It wouldn't need a vulnerability then, would it?
The reason why I ask is an update to the LG g3 (my friends device) broke the ability to root it (unfortunately he updated before it could be rooted), and I figured it was a common thing throughout Verizon devices.
I highly doubt Verizon or Motorola will unlock it. Someone will have to find an exploit, nothing has been reported so far. The updates for the G3 most likely updated the firmware on the phone and patched whatever exploit they were using to crack the bootloader. With no exploit on the DT2 yet, there's nothing to patch.
if you hope someone will find a exploit to root this phone, dont upgrade. root exploits are usually found on older firmware, so if plan to wait, dont upgrade.
So i unrooted my 6p yesterday and then locked my bootloader today, how long will it take for the notification for an update to pop up?
Im running 6.0.1 with Build Number MTC20F
I am in the UK, my provider is Vodafone, if that makes a difference.
I havent upgraded to android N yet, but from reading, you need to be enrolled in the Android Beta program to get the OTA as of now. Also the bootloader being locked or unlocked shouldn't make a difference.

Cheers, I keep hearing about people getting the update, and all sources keep saying different things, one site says its released and 6p users can get it and another will say its still rolling out. Same goes for the bootloader, one site says it makes a difference and the other will say it doesn't. Guess ill have to wait. Again, cheers.
So, I just went through and made my phone stock MTC20F, but bootloader is still unlocked, enrolled for the beta program at https://www.google.com/android/beta?u=0, and check system updates and instantly got the update to download. So i can confirm that your bootloader doesn't matter and you need to be enrolled.

You don't need to re-lock the bootloader or unroot to accept the OTA. You just need to flash stock recovery.

So ur saying that you can accept the OTA while rooted? Will this work with dp5 rooted with encryption and just revert to stock recovery? (BC right now I'm on the newest twrp)

If your system is modified, then the OTA won't work. This works with a systemless root.
After reverting back to stock 7.0 do I need to lock bootloader to get updates. I'm getting fails ? Thanks guys been a lifetime since I've been active. Cheers

As far as I know, an unlocked bootloader should not prevent OTA updates. Anything modified, including recovery, will prevent it though.

Ok. So odd .. I reverted everything back and when it goes to do the update it just goes to bootloader and nothing...
Is there a way to stop the ota update so I quit getting notifications?

If you are rooted then yes. But just to clarify, what steps/methods did you use to return to stock? This could help determine where the issue is arising with you unable to update.
We have a new G5 Plus (running stock Nougat) that is prompting for the OTA update to Oreo.
Question: Will the bootloader be unlockable after the update to Oreo?
I intend to unlock the bootloader, but sometimes the ability to unlock it is blocked after an update like this. Sometimes, unlocking the BL before an update blocks the update.

Great! Thanks!
BTW, in your opinion, do you think that the G5 Plus will get updates past Oreo?
That might seem like an unrelated question, but I'm looking at the idea of adding some audio mods that require root and don't mind waiting until the official updates have settled down. Then I'll unlock, root, etc.

Only via flashed custom ROMs will system software past Oreo exist on the G5 Plus. G series phones get slated for one major system update.
It would be better if you atleast get the unlock code while on nougat. There are issue in Oreo. Some people were having issues where the unlock data provided by the phone was said to be incomplete when pasti g it on Moto's site in order to get the unlock code.
