You might have already seen the next version of EMUI, version 5.0, on the Mate 9 announced by Huawei recently. That same software is coming soon to Honor’s flagship, the Honor 8. We have 55 slots open to anyone with an FRD-L04 version of the Honor 8, and another 10 slots for those with the FRD-L02 model. You can tell which model you have by looking on the back of your Honor 8 under the Honor logo. Here’s an overview of what’s new:
Key features:
Simpler user interface: a brand new user interface design, comprising blue and white inspired by the color of Aegean Sea; a simplified interface system with an easy three-step-operation for over 90% of the time.
Improved performance: smoother system responsiveness enables quicker browsing in all activities.
A more secure system: strengthened security over user privacy, mobile payment and communication, and app usage.

Wow something official
May I have two questions? I know that the answer is quiet unlikely not known yet but:
-Will you have beta slots for european devices as well?
-About how long the beta testing will take part?

Right now it's North America and India only. My guess is that the beta ROM will be leaked and everyone will be able to install it if they want.

Currently launched for India and US but official plan is to start for UK in the same month so wait is not longer..
@svetius Honor India has also launched its Beta program for its Honor 8.
But the current XDA and Indian one have different registration forms.
Will there be any difference in the version provided ?
or any other difference in beta testing ?
Indian Beta testing info can be got here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/how-to/honor-8-honor-8-smart-india-emui-5-beta-t3495585

I am really excited to see that we have beta testing initiating already! I bought this honor in hopes of quick updates and now that I see they're going to be a reality.... I've got a Sony Xperia X Compact to return...
Is there a way to undo an application with the wing user name?
Submitted and done, I hope I'm not late
Hopefully it goes from beta to production just as swiftly.

The phone was launched by Bollywood celebs Randeep Hooda and Nimrat kaur. Honor President George Zhao graced the occasion. MTV presenter Bani J anchored the event.
The event was very successful with a large crowd from the media. Core fans made it even more special with their presence.
Let's talk about the design, look and specifications of the phone.
Honor 8 comes with The innovative bionic 12MP dual lenses, one lens allows for rich color and the other lens is monochrome to give your images more details, light and increased sharpness. Together they help you capture crisper, more detailed photos of stunning quality to match up the standard of a DSLR camera. Phone has a built-in dual ISP which improves focus, speed, and process time when you take pictures and hence the images are more stabilized, crisp and of best quality. Phone has a 8 MP front shooter as well with perfect selfie mode to give you the best in class selfie images.
Honor 8 comes with Android Marshmallow out of the box with Huawei’s EMUI 4.1 skin on top and sports a 5.2 inch full HD IPS screen display. The 5.2-inch FHD display with a 96% NTSC, color enhancement, and dynamic pixel-level contrast adjustment provides a better viewing experience, with vivid and crisp images. The display looks stunning. Phone is powered by Huawei’s in house Hi-Silicon Kirin 950 chipset (4x2.3 GHz Cortex-A72 & 4x1.8 GHz Cortex A53) with i5 co-processor and leading 16nm FinFET plus SoC coupled with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM enables flawless multitasking and seamless gaming.
The Honor 8 variant launched in India comes with 32GB of inbuilt storage and is expandable via microSD card (up to 128GB). On connectivity options, the Honor 8 includes 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (latest ac band is included for faster and better Wi-Fi connectivity), Bluetooth v4.2 which supports Bluetooth low energy (BLE) and fast charging support.
Phone will be available in few latest and popular color options in the market mainly Pearl White, Sapphire Blue, Sunrise Gold color variants in India. The sapphire blue color looks stunning and now we know the reason why the same was liked and appreciated in the European market and phone became very popular in the region and will surely start a trend of new color for handset.
The smartphone features a 3000mAh battery. With 9V/2A fast-charging technology the battery gets charged up to 47% in just 30 minutes and have you covered for the entire day so you need not to worry about the phone running out of juice in critical time. And this time user need not to worry about the fast charger to buy them separately as the phone comes with the fast charger out of the box.
Additionally, during the launch, the company also announced the Honor 8 Smart variant and Honor Holly 3 phone priced at Rs. 19,999 and Rs. 9,999 respectively.

Honor 8 did not satisfy me as it doesn't have dual sim support
Seems that it won't support VoLTE out of the box.
Honor 8 Smart is similar to Honor 5C. There are few plus points in it which are mentioned in my post - http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-5c/how-to/honor-5c-vs-honor-8-smart-difference-t3479156 . Still its not worth for double the amount of 5C.

Maybe later or not much people in India using dual sim yet...
Reliance Jio 4g has arrived india just now which is providing free calls and data till december 16.
Sinve it is a newly launched network, most of us are thinking to give it a try without sacrificing our primary sim.
So especially a this point of time where people are expecting dual sim, the single sim variant won't be that much useful as we are unable to use freely available things
Too bad they didn't go with dual sim
EMUI 5 is gonna release on November 3rd.
Honor 8 will be the first device in the Honor brand to get EMUI update after its release.

However it is expected to get released for Honor 8 by 2017 only.
If it is releasing on 3rd November, and Honor 8 will be the first to get it, then how do you think it will take almost 2 months to get to it.

It needs to get customized for Honor 8 in terms of carriers, sponsors, region specific apps, beta testing, then we will get it. So it will take almost 2 months.

It will be indeed released to Huawei devices first. I didn say no for it. I just said that Honor 8 will be the first device which will get EMUI 5 in the "Honor branded mobiles".
Honor is the Sub-brand of Huawei and Huawei != Honor.
Anyway this means it will come with some bugs, as it is expected. I just hope they're not too many and deal breaking.
Mate 9 will be a showcase of EMUI 5, it may not be fully ready but it will be ready faster than we think

If those bugs are found at beta testing, then they might fix it before the public release.
No, there will be bugs released in the final OTA still. Looking back I would say it will take 2~3 releases, including OTA, to get fully stable and complete.
Livestream just ended. No info about EMUI on phones other than the Mate 9.
It is interesting to see that on the official Huawei introducing EMUI 5 video there is no app drawer (1:25)
On the other hand all the first hands on videos shows there is:
It's optional. You can enable it in the settings
The Huawei Mate 9, which will be officially announced this month, has appeared in high resolution leaked photos showing the final unit with Leica-engineered dual-camera setup.
The leaked photos are consistent with material that's surfaced previously, showcasing a big metal smartphone with a dual-camera setup, accompanied by a dual-LED flash and laser autofocus module.
The handset is rumored to have a 5.9-inch display with 1080p resolution and is to be powered by the Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 960 flagship-tier processor, paired with up to 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage. The Huawei Mate 9 allegedly runs Android 7.0 Nougat skinned with the manufacturer's EMUI 5.0 interface.

Agreed.
Plus, the Kirin 960 isn't much faster as well (for non-gamers that is as the GPU-side however is massively quicker (but current games run just fine on the 950 as well, imho)) and pretty expensive so will hold onto the Mate 8 for the time being :good:
it is all about the price about this one, I am also disspointed with the camerabump and camera modul, it looks not very stylish and not up to huawies recent standards.
I am a gamer so for personally k960 is very much neeeded. The picture abouve I still see black borders against the screen this is disappointing, I think otherwise Nubia Z9 has done very good with this and I wish all other manufactures would do the same to create borderless screen
The leaks seem to be getting confirmed (or thrown out) as the 4th approaches. On a Note 4 (but running Note 7 softwate) and have a ROM'd MediaPad X2 (which was a PITA to update) . So I like rooted Huawei devices with new ROMs so looking at 3 very different devices:
In the spirit of the thread, my first pick
- Mate 9 mostly for the great devs here. Nougat would be a bonus, and hopefully chainfires work can be brought over. Not global (or including 4g then off the list.
- LeEco LePro 3 with flash rebate it is absurdly affordable and reasonably reviewed as a whole. Only 5.5 is a real deal thinker. 5.9 on the Mate much better by leaps and jumps ahead.
- Lenovo Phab Pro 2 out (for ordering) now, but holding for the Huawei intro press conference on the 4th. Bigger (like the 6.4), much less performance wise.
Two pictures from the phone.

Assuming this will be available in the US on the Huawei website as an unlocked version you can use in the US?
Opinion on it being my next phone over my Nexus 6p?
Two sensors (20MP+12MP) 4K video + OIS, new CPU, new GPU, Android 7.0, IR blaster, USB Type-C. Good update over Mate 8.
"Porsche Design" will be not for everyone. Especially design quite like Samsung - front main button ... and price of course.

So, no idea when there will be official release, but it seems stable. It is very similar to the P10's firmware at this point.
Update: The chinese version includes Google Play Services out of the box. Interesting.
Then Huawei's statement about "Phones on EMUI 5.0 won't be getting 5.1" is utter bull****? Nice going there Huawei! >< Are there any changes in the Camera App, enabling the Pro Video mode? Would you mind seeing how it does the GPS, with Galileo as well? Does it see more, then 1 EU satellite?

Thanks, work with that German fella from the GPS thread to log the output and see if it's changed. To test the camera, well try zooming 1.1x and see if the quality and sharpness improves. Was a 'bug' on some firmwares.

Yes, I am specifically looking to have the ability of
Hiding apps,
Removing the navigation bar when using the navigation circle,
Double tap when driving,
Customisation,
Better Dock and home screen,
and Softtouch
as this gem is capable of all of them. Otherwise for a few "Bugs fixed" and "Security patches" wouldn't wanna see another 1GB of storage and memory wasted.
Plus the Chinese version has a different story and nothing to do with the international version. That is why it matters.

(for instance, GPU Mali T628 and Vulkan API are the hardware & softwre limitations for Nougat, and thus Honor 7)

Lessons learned. Pixel 3 next time or someone else. It's much more expensive, but at least there will be support. Even OnePlus seems like a better choice. At least they are updating their OP3 released in June 2016 to Oreo. Honor 8 was released in July 2016. An older phone is getting better support. So infuriating. Their hw excuse is BS.
This is the final ??

ill go with Android One device right now my money is on Mi A1
It's a joke that the phone called "Honor 8 LITE" (cheaper version of Honor 8) gets Oreo, and the Honor 8 not.
After this, I think I will never buy a Honor/Huawei phone again...

Not only OP3.. even Samsung S6 is about to receive Oreo...
Ikr if the s6 can get Oreo this phone for sure should be able to.
it is typical of Huawei or Honor to provide only one major OS update...if your model came with MM you will get N. If your model launched with N, you will get Oreo. That's it... Irrespective of whether the hardware is capable or not...
we customers are just expecting more than what we are entitled to...
That moment when your old Xperia SP from 2013 is running totally fine with Android 8.1 while this device has even worse Hardware than the Honor 8... It just can't be Hardware or Software limitation, they don't earn money with updates, that the reason, only with selling new phones.
Looks like I'm never going to buy a Huawei device again, even if it's cheap. I only got this device because there was a special sale on that specific day (About 30% off). Looking back I should probably have gotten a OnePlus 3T which was the phone I originally planned on getting. Oh well, I'm really disappointed in Huawei.
I can just say that my next phone will definitively be a OnePlus, maybe the OnePlus 6 or 6T.
Bought 2 Honor 8(One for me and other to my wife), and altough i still like the device I doubt I'll ever buy a Honor/Huawei device in a near future...

Even though they launch at 30k in starting they will end up selling phones at 50% or 30% off. In India Honor 8 was launched at 30k but now its been sold at 14.9k RIP for those who brought when it was launched (I'm also in sadly )
Lessons Learnt :-
1.Never and ever buy Honor phones at early release stage, if you buy you can't sell after a month also.
2. Never expect updates from Honor, they always gonna late by the time you'll see next major update LOL
God damn it!
one of the reasons I bought the phone was because they promised two years of updates... can't we sue them over this or something? If that's completely true I'm not buying a hauwei/honor phone again...
what the hell first i bought samsung s3 there they stopped update till andriod 4.3.6 (so thought never to buy samsung as they didnt provide update before) then i bought nokia 6 ta-1000, nokia was even worse coz no updates and plus it was not supporting 4g in my area so sold that and bought honor 8 thinking they will update, now with this post i lost hope... i am having bad luck i guess coz now even samsung s6 getting oreo update
