So I bought an expensive Belkin USB-C 3.1 to USB-C cable for my new V20 and new Win 10 power laptop. Meanwhile I installed LG drivers, bridge, everything and the computer won't recognize the phone, just charges it (and no faster). How do I get windows to use this new high tech cord? Device manager shows 3 entries for the V20 and they all say device cannot start with the yellow triangle. It doesn't even work to drag files like a normal usb to c cable!
Update the drivers or something. I had the exact same problem but the next day I tried again it was working.

Did you use the drop down shade and change tbe settings so you can transfers data? The drop down shade in your phone.
That's what I had before. It has something to do with the drivers. It magically fixed itself for me the following day. I assumed the drivers were updated as I had that set to automatic.

I was wondering if anyone is having similar issues with aftermarket cables.
I bought 2 cables that work fine in 2.0 for charging/data transfer.
When I put them into a 3.0 ports nothing happens, there is no prompt to access the phone, and the USB options do not appear on the phone.
I have downloaded the Samsung drivers, and tried 2 different PCs.
I have no issues using the provided Samsung cable.
Any ideas?
I haven't experienced this. Actually, I think the Samsung USB 3.0 cable that came with my phone was bad. When I used it, USB 3.0 would stay grayed out. I had another one for a portable hard drive and that one works fine with the phone. Maybe just try a different brand. These cables seem rather fragile.

I purchased a 9ft Amazon Basics USB 3.0 cable and all is well. Connecting through a USB 3.0 port, my device was immediately recognized, and I had no problem transferring data files to and from the device.
My only guess would have been to ensure that your PC's USB 3.0 drivers are installed in order for the ports to work properly. Since you're not having any issues with the stock cable, I'm not really sure.
I don't know if it'll make a difference in this case, but I have USB Debugging enabled.
I have all of the drivers update and USB debugging. Think I just got some shoddy cables.

I called Samsung and eventually after explaining what a micro USB 3.0 cable is and how it is supposed to work, and how it is not working, they finally gave me a place to send the cable and they will supposedly send me a replacement. I'm not holding my breath though. I think I would have had better luck addressing the envelope to "The Twilight Zone."

If your 3.0 charger charges fine but is not recognized when plugged into a port I'd check the the port drivers and make sure they are up to date. But first plug into all of your ports. It could be that not all of the ports on your lap/desk top are usb 3.0 friendly. And I've seen instances where if the device has not yet been recognized it will not pick up the device theough a usb 3.0 link. So maybe first get your note recognized by using a 2.0 connector then backdoor with the 3.0 and see what happens.
samsung test all of their cords before they leave manufacturing so getting a dud is very unlikely yet not impossible.
As for the aftermarket cords I normally stick to belkin. Best build quality for a fair price.

I have tried everything.
I plugged into 2.0 and the 3 options pop up to select a mode where 3.0 is grayed out. That menu closes when you unplug.
If you lock your phone while in this menu, you can change the port, unlock the phone and the menu is still there, but it will not allow me to select 3.0.
I have 2 3.0 ports on my laptop, 1 on the docking station, and 1 on my standalone.
None of them work with the aftermarket cable. I will take it as a loss as I really only need them for charging away from home.

That is indeed odd. Im not sure what to tell you. Hopefully someone will chime in and be of more assistance.
Try changing your network connections. Using usb3.0 puts on airplane mode. If u have wifi on or something it'll show greyed out. It might not be wifi but it's something similar. Saw the greyed out 3.0 the other day and changed a setting on my phone and it came back. Hope it helps.

I am having the same issue. I have 2 white usb 3.0 cables that I bought online from china via ebay. They were supposed to be USB 3.0 compatible and they look similar to the original stock cable.
When I use the stock cable w/ my usb3.0 port in rear of motherboard, the phone prompts me to enable USB 3.0 mode. When I use either generic cable, it will only function in USB 2.0 mode (I get no prompt for 3.0).
I am running DarthStalker Note 3 Version 6 and 3.4.0_Compulsion Kernel_7.0 on Tmobile version Note 3
I am willing to sacrifice (cut open) one of my generic cables if anyone thinks they can help diagnose the exact cause
I am having issues finding an extra USB 3.0 cable that performs to the level of the one that came with my phone. (My OEM cable works great)
I think the issue is that the 3rd party cables use cheap, thin wire. They can put a micro USB 3.0 tip on it... but the thin wires can't carry the bandwidth.
This is most plainly noticeable by downloading an app that shows the current flow while charging. Try downloading "Galaxy Charging Current *Lite*" and charge your phone through various combinations of
cable (USB2, USB3, OEM, 3rd party)
receptacle (1A, 2A, OEM, 3rd Party),
USB port (USB2, USB3, motherboard, adaptor card)
...etc. Even wireless charging, if you're equipped.
(It should also be noted that the phone will throttle the current flow as it gets closer to full. You'll get higher flow at 30% than 76% or 96%... so keep this in mind as you try different configurations.)
I've found that I got the best current flow (1800mA) using the Samsung USB3 cable, connected to a powered USB3 hub's charging port (no data, just power). This would charge our 3200 mAH battery from 0 - 100% in about 2 hours. When I swapped in a cheap Amazon cable (CableMatters brand)... the current flow dropped to about 800mA... or 4 hours. I emailed CableMatters, and they confirmed that it's a design issue, and that the wires are thin. They were pretty plain about admitting it... and then told me to return the cables to Amazon.
I'm posting all of this useful information not only to be helpful... but also to ask for help. Has anyone found a suitable replacement for the OEM cable? I'm looking for a charging cable... I'm looking for thicker-gauge wires capable of sustaining high current flow.
Any help here? Thanks!
If you are not getting 3.0 speeds then it's not a 3.0 cable. There are many fakes on ebay and amazon.
Only buy Amazon Basics or Samsung branded cables sold by Amazon OR Samsung.

Hello, I've recently bought LG G2 (d802). Everything was fine but since two days when I plug it into the PC, the phone charges and there is "slow charging" in the status bar. I've tried these things and nothing worked.
- used a new USB cable apart from the cable given the G2 box.
- used the OEM cable on another PC.
- uninstalled LG Mobile United drivers and reinstalled.
- uninstalled drivers and connected the phone, to no avail.
- different port
- cleaned mUSB port on the phone. (You know, just blowing air in to it )
- tried unchecking MTP, rechecking it. USB debugging off to on and vice versa.
And also I've rooted the phone and currently on Rayglobe 2.3. I'm worried if it's a hardware problem and since my warranty is void, am I screwed? Please help me.

If you charge through USB, it is normal for it to say Slow charging. Are you on Mac or Windows.
Sorry but what exactly is the problem you are experiencing? Your phone is charging isn't it?
The slow charge icon is pretty self explanatory, it's indicating that the power output from your source isn't strong enough to charge your 3000mAh at the normal desired rate; it's going to be a "slow charge".
This is normal when charging from a usb port on a computer, their power output isn't anything near that of your mains outlet. It is also the case with every phone you try to charge via your PC's usb port .. LG are just notifying you that it's going to be a slow charge.
I'm not sure if this will be the case with USB 2.0/3.0 connections but everyone will get that message if using a normal usb port.

There is a setting in the phone that lets you choose HOW to connect to your computer, for example "charge only" or "connect as an mtp device"

Well, I think my question wasn't clear. My PC is not recognizing the phone, no pop-up messages, no LG G2 drive. But the phone is charging. My question was not about the charging but my phone not being recognized by the PC.
I wanted to transfer Rayglobe ROM to my phone, but when I connected, there was no G2 drive. I'm on Windows 8.1 BTW.
Never used win8 so can't help you there, did you try different usb-ports?

I can connect my V20 to a Windows PC via USB cable, and transfer files back and forth. I had to pick something on a menu the first time I plugged in the phone.
However, if I plug a USB stick directly into the V20, it does not recognize it, or respond at all. My friend plugs the same USB stick into his V10 and an app pops up and shows the folders.
I'm using a micro-USB to USB-C adapter on the stick to plug into the V20. I know the adapter works, because I tested it when connecting to the PC.
I have searched settings for "USB" and it only comes up with USB tethering.
This is an AT&T stock phone, using the stock launcher. No root or anything.
Any idea how to get the USB recognized on the V20? Thanks.
it might be that the USB host function doesn't work with those adapters. have you tried plugging in a USBC to USB adapter and plugging a flash drive into that?
something like this

I've tried the same thing without success. My note 3 & 4 worked fine. I also had a Note 7 and Nexus 6P and it didn't work with those either.
has there been any advancement on this issue?
Did anyone find the answer to this? My V20 used to boot up a USB stick but just stopped working one day.
Hello, i'm having this problem for a few weeks now... When I connect my Moto G4 to any PC, windows doesn't recognize that a new device have been connected to it, and also in the phone I don't receive the notification to select the option of the USB usage, if it's MTP, PTP, only for charge, etc. Someone can help me with this? I don't know what to do, I already installed the moto drivers, and the adb universal drivers can't detect that my phone is connected via USB so I can't do anything about it as long I concern.
P.D.: My phone charges correctly and the USB cable (the original) is working because I used it with differents phones, and also tried with different ports. (I made a factory reset not too long ago). Thank you .
(I'm sorry for my bad english, is not my mother tongue)
When you charge the phone using the wall charger, does it say Turbopower on the lock screen? If it doesn't, it's possible that your cable is broken or a pin in the charging port on the phone is broken. Try another cable.
Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk
Yeah, it says turbo Charger when I connect it to the wall charger.
Did it ever work and just stopped working recently?
Try USB 2.0 ports(the black ones) on your computer instead of USB 3.0(the blue ones).

yes, was working before, that's why i don't know what happened, it stopped working like 3 weeks ago something like that, I already tried connecting the phone in all the usb ports that i have on my laptop and my desktop, i'm using two original usb cables, because my brother also have a moto g4, when he comes back from work i'm gonna try connecting his phone on my computers to see if both recognize his moto, but i think it's a problem of my moto.
Could be a broken pin in the USB port on the phone. Hope it's under warranty.

I ran into this issue recently. I think the answer is that you need to be an administrator level on the computer to see the phone as a drive on your computer.
No. I am facing same problem as the OP. Already an administrator. Tried in different laptops as well.
This was my issue on Windows 10. What version are you on?
Same. Windows 10.
Hi all, I haven't been here for a while now, but I figure that this is the best place to put my issue besides maybe reddit. So I was trying to activate USB tethering yesterday as i do a lot in order to play some games on my computer since i don't have access to any ethernet, and something went wrong and it didn't activate despite having hit the switch on the phone. I unplugged my phone to turn it off since my computer hadn't recognized the tethering and tried to activate it again, but this time my phone only made the charging noise and wasn't picking up my computer at all. I then restarted my phone to see if that was the issue and got the same result. I then tried to plug it into my laptop to see if my computer was the problem and it did the same thing.
Today I tried plugging my phone into my laptop with my usb-c to usb-c cable (instead of my go-to usb-c to usb-a cable that came with the phone) and got some signs of life from the laptop, it makes the sound that says its plugged in, but the phone still only charges and the laptop picks up my phone as "USB root hub (USB 3.0)" and "Intel USB 3.1 eXtensible Host controller-1.10 (Microsoft)" in device manager. I also just tried clearing the cache in recovery but nothing has changed. Does anyone know what's going on here and how I can fix it?
Unrooted (duh), AT&T model (sorry idk the model numbers like i used to), latest updates and security patches etc
EDIT: power cycled it (let it die and turned it back on a few times until it wouldn't turn on again) and charged it back up again and that seems to have fixed my issue.
