Samsung Galaxy Note 5 (N920G) Marshmallow ROOT - Galaxy Note5 General

Follow the procedure below to root your Note 5 with Indian ROM on Android Marshmallow (6.0.1).
It's pretty straight forward. Backup all your data before upgrading as usual. Use USB OTG for backing up.
1. Put the phone in Download mode.
- Power down the device.
- Press and hold > Vol DOWN + HOME + Power button.
- Phone boots up and press Vol UP to proceed.
2. Download CF-Auto-Root by awesome Chainfire
https://download.chainfire.eu/947/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-noblelte-nobleltedd-smn920g.zip
3. Extract the Zip file and then make sure you have all Samsung USB drivers installed. The run Odin.
4. Only AP will be enabled check it and point to the CF-Auto-Root-noblelte-nobleltedd-smn920g.tar.md5 file.
5. Once process is complete, phone should reboot. It will reboot 4 to 5 times. But do not worry as this is normal.
6. Once the phone comes backup you should have SuperSU app and your phone should be rooted.
I am assuming that up to this point you've been running on Stock MM. Or upgraded from Stock Lollipop. I personally was running rooted Lollipop and the flashed with a ROM from Samfirmware. Then after rebooting the phone all my data was intact and then rooted using the above method and it's working well!

[Q] Booting 5.0 Alliance Rom

I tried to root my brother's S5 which was on 5.0 to begin with. Here is what I did:
Odined back to full stock 4.4.2 (NCIG or whatever), booted no problem. Then I rooted, busyboxed, installed safestrap, all worked. Booted into recovery, set up a rom slot, and flashed Alliance 5.0. Then I booted straight into download mode and flashed the OA8 Kernel and firmware via odin and booted the phone back up. It only got to the first boot screen and did the noise thing but didn't continue to the red verizon logo or anything further.
Did I miss a vital step or was I just too impatient waiting for it to boot (waited ~5min)? I figured 5 minutes would be long enough to pass the first boot screen. I put him back onto 4.4.2 rooted for the meantime but need help getting him back to 5.0.
Thanks!
Two problems I can think of. If you installed the rom to any slot other than stock I believe it won't boot properly. Also, Alliance is a deodexed rom which takes 15+ minutes on first boot, so you didn't wait anywhere near long enough.
**You can begin the following process from any Build/ROM but you must already have Root Access**
**Required** FlashFire - Play BETA - PREVIEW
1. Join the G+ community using the same Google account as you're using for Play on your phone/tablet Here.
2. Sign up to receive the BETA versions from Play Here.
- Use the link provided after sign-up to download the app.
**Caution!** The following process is only for the G900V Verizon S5 variant. Use on any other device may result in a hardbrick!
***FlashFire v19 Recommended***
Download:
- G900V_OD5_Stock_Rooted_ROM
- G900V_OD5_Stock_Deodexed_ROM
Set your screen timeout to 10mins before beginning!
1. Place the ROM onto your device (use either internal or ext-sdcard).
2. Open the FlashFire app and "Agree" to the Terms and Conditions.
3. Press "(+)" twice to bring up the "Actions" menu.
4. Select "Flash Zip or OTA" and locate and select the ROM. Leave "Auto-mount" unchecked under the "Options" menu and press the checkmark to continue.
5. From the main menu Uncheck all options under "EverRoot" and use default "Reboot" setting.
6. Last, press the lightning bolt then "Ok" to begin the flash .
The screen will turn black then display the contents of your system before beginning the flash. FlashFire will pause for about 1 minute while flashing the "system" partition. Once complete your device will reboot and pause on the Verizon splash screen for 1 - 2 minutes (15 - 20mins for DeOdexed version) before completely rebooting. Done!
Tip: for blazing fast speed turn off animations from Developer Options and reboot!
Known Issues:
- None!
- When reporting an issue please always include your starting firmware, FF version, ROM version flashed, and relevant details. Should the flash fail please review FF's last log for errors and include info in your post.
Optional (Flash using FlashFire's "Flash zip or ota" option):
- G900V_OD5_TetherAddOn
- G900V_OD5_Write_to_SDCard
Notes:
1. The above process will not affect your Knox Warranty Flag.
2. The process will update your Modem, Non-hlos, System, Kernel, Stock Recovery, and Bootloader to OD5.
3. No need to wipe prior to flashing, the ROM will automatically perform a factory data reset.
4. If you do not already have root access (or to unbrick) you must flash the G900VVRU1ANCG_Full_Odin.tar (flash in Odin's PDA slot(AP in Odin v3.09+)), root with Towelroot (this version does not require internet access), then proceed with the above process.
5. To learn more about FlashFire's capabilities on locked bootloader devices see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60070810&postcount=2

Having trouble rooting, flashing, and changing kernels

Is there a way to clone a device?
I have two Samsung S5's, and one of them is running GREAT. The other one, not so much.
In lieu of cloning, i'd like to have some help figuring out what i'm doing wrong in this process:
I rooted the phone, installed Plasma ROM 2.0, and debloated. I lost the ability to rotate the screen, and I finally did something about it.
I returned the phone to stock, and attempted to root and install Plasma just as before.
I'm using the root instructions (below), and i've run into one of three issues:
1) When I run towelroot, it says this device is not supported.
2) When I am able to get towelroot to run, the phone boot hangs after step 7, install NI2 Stock Kernel.
BY boot hang, I mean that the startup screen appears (Samsung), and then it just stays there. I don't see any action, and it doesn't respond to any buttons.
I'm using ODIN 3.07
I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit
I've got a couple of different cables, and haven't had any issues with that connection.
ROOT STEPS:
1: Download the RootS5.zip file and unzip it to your desktop.
2: Copy tr_v2.apk, BusyBox.apk, Safestrap-G900V-3.75-KitKat.apk and UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip to your extSd card on your phone.
3: Run Odin3 and load G900V_NCG_Stock_Kernel.tar.md5 in the AP slot.
4: Shut your phone off and enter download mode by holding down the power, home and volume down buttons until it boots to download mode and then press the volume up key.
5: While in download mode connect your phone to your PC and Odin should say you are connected. Now press the start button to flash G900V_NCG_Stock_Kernel.tar.md5 to your phone. The phone will now reboot and update some apps, let it finish. After this there will be a bunch of force closes. Just close them until they go away.
6: Open your file browser, go to tour extSD, install and run tr_v2.apk, BusyBox.apk and then Safestrap-G900V-3.75-KitKat.apk in that order.
7: Shut down the phone, enter download mode again, flash NI2_stock_kernel.tar.md5 and reboot into safestrap.
8: While in safestrap install UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip from your extSD card and reboot.
If all went well you should be on the NI2 firmware, rooted and safestrap installed. For those who do not want to install safestrap you can skip those steps and update superSU from the playsotre.
You mentioned that you flash back to stock, what firmware version did you flash?

Currently what is your status? Do you have safestrap installed? what firmware running? rooted?
CURRENT STATUS:
Phone hangs on Verizon screen.
Alright, I finally came back to this issue.
I ran a factory reset/data wipe from recovery menu, and now I can boot into the device.
Current status is in photo.
I found this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784880
and im downloading this file to use: ALL_VZW_G900VVRU1ANCG_G900VVZW1ANCG_964333_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.zip
My goal right now is just to get this phone back to bare stock, and then root it, eventually getting it to match my other S5 (which is still running great!)
Any reason this won't work?
Alright all, here's the outcome.
I followed the directions at this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784880, and now I have a working phone.
I then installed Plasma ROM 2.0, using the directions on that post, and now i'm working on making it my own.
All in all, success!

If the above tips did not work for you, its time to take things to the next level. If the Galaxy S7 is the only device in your Wi-Fi network to suffer from slow speeds, you can try changing the DNS server used on the handset.
For this, you will first have to make the device forget the existing Wi-Fi network. Then, tap on its name to join again, but before you enter the password, tap on ‘Show advanced options.’ Now proceed to tap ‘IP Settings’ and select ‘Static’ from the list. Leave other IP settings as they are, and simply enter the DNS server you’d like to use in the DNS text field area. You can try using Google DNS first (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4) or OpenDNS (208.67.222.222) to see if they fix the Wi-Fi woes on your S7 or not.

Did you manage to root the G930W8 on nougat 7.0 build with this method? I've had nothing but problems attempting to root for the last few days. Tried cf-auto root and this magisk method early on in my attempts with no success. I've just fine a full clean build flash and restore and would really like to root but am worried I'm just going to get no where again and spend hours getting back to where I'm at now...

Having trouble as well.
I get message "integrity check failed" after flashing magisk via twrp a step 11 then makes me reset the phone but because of the custom recovery it only bootloops.
Then i restart the whole process again only to stop at step 11.
Is there a step i'm missing?
Start all over again, but on step 11 follow this.
Try it this way:
When you boot up to TWRP, swipe allow modification. Flash MagiskV14.zip, then if it says install TWRP app, press "do not install".
If you have problem seeing files wipe DATA and then reboot to recovery again using TWRP, select SDCARD as storage then flash MagiskV14.zip
I tried it but i accidentally let the phone reboot after flashing twrp and it failed the integrity check and started bootlooping. I entered recovery and grabbed the log which i attached here.
So I did the steps again but used this steps from the other guide for exynos models
At this point, you will reach the screen asking you if you want to allow system modifications.
By swiping right, you will trigger dm-verity, and if you don't follow the next step you will be unable to boot!
If you are going to root your device and follow the rest of these steps, then it is safe to swipe right and enable modifications.
If you want to use Systemless DevBase, then do not swipe. Keep it as read only.
Go to Wipe and click on format data. Type "yes" and it will format.
Now go back to home and click on "Reboot" then click on "Recovery" Option.
Then went from step 11 here and what you said to flash magisk and it worked.
My phone is finally debloated.
I tried your steps many times but everytime it's failing. Everytime it fails when installing "system". I've tried with different CSC version firmwares but it failed with each one of them. I', 100% sure that it is G930W8 S7 Flat because it was running on the same version of custom ROMs.

Same here... I tried it on two different stock roms with no luck.
I almost soft bricked my s7 which was working perfectly before applying the patch. It was giving me dm-verity error at boot...
I was able to flash it back and make it working using full stock rom.
I highly recommend readers to NOT apply the above Magisk Root on their G930W8 (S7).

sorry if this is in the wrong section i have galaxy s7 its on android 7.0 my power button is broken doesnt work at all i normally dont let my phone power down completley cause of it and it has ive tried rebooting the phone usin volume down and then plugging into computer and it just brings up the charge screen is there any other ways i can get this phone powered on even if i have to download something on my computer i will pleaqse help if possible
Have you tried these suggestions?

I just want to confirm this, since it's not explicitly mentioned in the post... When you root it trips KNOX, which locks you out from Disconnect Pro, Samsung Health, and Samsung Pay. Does this also mean that Android pay will not work either? Or does this method allow for Android pay to work?
If not, is there a workaround yet?

There are many reports on the XDA forums that Android Pay works with Magisk systemless root and with tripped Knox on S7 (as opposed to Samsung Pay which will not work once Knox is tripped).

also just to clarify, I'm on nougat 7.0 with security patch Nov 1, 2017

If its first time TWRP installation then you need to Format data (Caution: Format data will format the Phone internal storage and you need to backup files first if you have in phone storage like photos video and etc) After formatting data it Will allow to read and write the data partition). Further once you Flash TWRP then Super SU or Magist (Root) is compulsory to boot normal unless its bootloop
Any of you recommend holding off on the root till the Oreo update? Also, does rooting change the kernel to a different one? I wanna avoid battery/performance issues if I can by staying on the stock kernel.

Battery health help

I want to know the EXACT battery capacity(as in battery health) left in my s7 edge battery.unrooted stock nougat. Don't at all mind if computer is needed.Help?
go to the play store and download phone info and go to personal tab and it will tell you
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-...ernel-t3706089
The goal of this is to give you better performance and battery, and now supports ALL S7s!!!
I have included into the script where it will create a file craz_test.log which will tell if and when the script has ran at boot in /data
I have also implemented into the script where it will run the script every 3 minutes (180 seconds) as the kernel will reset itself often.
Thanks to @kevp75 for the help with troubleshooting and making things easier
HUGE thanks to @king3opobn for providing information and testing on the Exynos variant!

Battery health help

I tested my battery health with phone info app(the app made for Samsung if I’m right) and it said my battery health was 71% and I do have bad battery life and changing the battery is not an option for me. So can somebody suggest some options for me to get better battery life without changing the battery. I also can’t flash custom rims as my screen is busted and only displays everything green and doesn’t work unless AOD is enabled . So after every time I factory reset I have to randomly keep pressing the power button sleeping and waking the screen for days until the the screen suddenly starts working for some reason to quickly go through the setup and enable AOD. So I only upgrade and degrade through Odin with home csc. Any suggestion that keep my AOD enabled and help my battery case are welcome. (And if you can you download the phone info app and tell me what it says in the personal tab and battery to prove its accuracy that would be great too )

If you want to fix it here is what i did:
STEP 1 - ROOT IT!
1. Download Magisk zip and pull it to your Sd card or internal storage
2. Flash TWRP via Odin (put it in "AP"). Be sure to disable auto reboot in odin. If it says PASS!, hold the 3 keys (volume up + home + power) wait until twrp screen appears. (Your Warranty is now void)
3. Now flash the Magisk zip and reboot your device.
