I upgraded from a note 4 to lg v20. Att had a deal so I traded in my note 4. I took the old sim card from the note. Did errands around town and I lost the old sim card. Do I have anything to worry about?

Hi guys, I was all excited to get things going on my galaxy note but unfortunately it's not recognizing my sim card. I put in my att gophone sim card, prepaid unlimited $50 plan, and my note will not recognize it. When I insert it, I get an error saying "sim card crash" and in the top right i have some sort of notification that looks like a sim card with an exclamation point in the bottom right. When I go into setting>wireless and network> mobile networks in order to set up the APN settings it says "insert sim card, Insert sim card to access network services". When I insert the sim into my dumphone, it works fine. I saw another poster had a somewhat similar problem but apparently out of the box it worked fine. I got my phone from techno trading house for what its worth.
this might sound stupid, but have you inserted your sim in the right way?
when i first booted up mine, i accidentally inserted the sim in the wrong way because the samsung note takes sim cards in the opposite direction compared to my previous nokias and motorolas.
Check your sim card placement. I had the no sim card issue when I first got my note, checked my sim card placement and I had it in backwards. Turned it around and everything started working. Just a thought.
I have the chipped side to the bottom right as seen in the little diagram.
+1 same issue here with StraightTalk... SIM positioned properly chipped side on the bottom right printed side of the SIM up / contacts below
My tmobile card has chip side close to sim card slot.

I tried that too, but the contacts are well aligned when the chip side in bottom right...
sim card
maybe you should try someone else's sim to see what is says. then go from there.
just got an ATT SIM works perfect.... more expensive so...

I'm assuming "just got an att sim" means you opted for a regular plan through att?
Yep that is correct
I currently have an iPhone 3GS under a 2-year plan with ATT. Will my iphone 3GS sim card fit properly into the Galaxy Note N7000? If it does fit, will my GNote operate at HSPA+ 21 with the iPhone sim inserted?
It should. I have a Vodafone 2 year plan and had a Galaxy I and put it into my wifes new SGS 2 and everything worked fine.

Yes. Same here. You might have to enter the att apn settings

you may need a 4G sim and a 4G data plan to access the HSPA+ APN.
Otherwise, regular 3G plan will show you the H+ symbol but may not be getting the full speed
I have been seeing alot of talk about people buying microsim cards for the Nexus 4. Forgive my ignorance, but will my current sim card in my Galaxy Note work in the Nexus 4?
From what I can see online, the Galaxy Note takes a regular SIM (technically called a Mini SIM, but referred to as just a SIM in most cases). If you go to an official AT&T store (not an authorized retailer) they will swap your SIM for free.
I currently have a Note 2, unlocked bootloader, alliance rom.
if I were to buy an S5, can I just move the Note's SIM card to the S5 and it would work?
Or does one of the talking heads at the Verizon store have to "activate" the S5?
I'd love to have 2-3 phones where I move the SIM card between them depending on how I feel each day.

Yes, you can swap the Sim card to different devices. I'm not sure if it'll work without going to the my Verizon and changing the device there as well though. I've used the same Sim card in my note 2, blackberry, s4, s5, maybe even all the way back to my thunderbolt, but I can't remember exactly.

I've used my current LTE Sim from Razr MAXX to Razr HD to Galaxy S5.. I have heard that the newer LTE Sims have some upgrades. How much truth there is to that, I don't know.

This is for Verizon!
I have mostly new phones and a new sim card. First and foremost all phones have to be activated with Verizon then you can change sims at will. I have a Galaxy S5, Moto Maxx, LG2 and IPhone 5. The same sim works in all phones. Yes I have to use a sim adaptor with the Galaxy S5. Shortly after changing the sim card the picture of the phone I'm using shows up on the My Verizon site.
I used to be with AT&T and I don't think each phone has to be activated by AT&T. I think it goes by the sim card. As I remember I could use any active sim card In any AT&T phone. If it was not a AT&T phone but worked on the same network you may have to configure the APN setting.
Can confirm. Got the VZW S5 through Amazon, which contained a new sim. When I got it, I turned off my old phone, popped out the microSD and sim, popped out the S5's sim and replaced it and installed the microSD and booted up.
First setup said the sim was active to my number, obviously, and I checked Verizon's site within minutes and it knew i had the new phone on that line.
Flawless victory.

I find it useful.
First Initialization of my S5
I was in the middle of initializing my S5 the day I received it. I had about 3 bars of signal strength. Then the signal strength went to zero and the phone would not complete initialization. I finally decided that the SIM card, for some reason, had fried during the process.
I removed the SIM card from my Droid Razor Maxx HD and plugged it into the S5. Signal strength was then back and the phone popped up a window stating that the SIM card was already activated. HOWEVER, I could still not make a call or reach the internet.
I called Verizon tech support and explained what I had done. He had me remove the SIM card and read off the lengthy number printed on the card. After he updated the system to associate this SIM card to the new phone everything was fine. It would be nice if their system software was smart enough to automate this process but apparently it isn't.
Also, I concur with the post that there is no guarantee you can swap SIM cards between phone. The first SIM enabled phone I owned definitely had a larger card. I would not have been able to move the card from that phone to the S5.

You may have an iphone specific sim?
I purchased a tmo note 4 and unlocked it run on att. I took the sim card out of my note 3 and put it and it provisioned by itself. I currently have lte even though att sees the phone as a blackberry 7100g. Since I am getting lte I was going to let my nephew use the note 3. Unfortunately the phone he has now is not an lte phone and uses a standard sim card so I can't stick it in the note 3. Can I buy just a micro sim card from att and ask them to activate with his phone number without having to bring in the note 3? Then I could put it in the note 3 and he would be good to go. I don't want them turning off the lte on my note 4 and I would rather not give them the imei from the tmo note 4. I wasn't sure if I should post this in a specific carrier forum.
