unlocked ZForce - Moto Z Force Questions & Answers

I would like to buy an Z Force. Is it available unlocked now ??? If so can anyone please tell me if its gona work good in middle east... (Bahrain / Saudi)

You need to find out what bands your using and then check it against the phone.

I am in the UAE and using a Z Force Droid from Verizon. It works.

It depends on which network your planning to use on. Some networks you may not get any LTE/4G

using mine on T-Mobile
full LTE service and everything works
just remove vzw bloat haha

[Q] Is the RAZR M SIM Unlocked From The Factory?

Most of Verizon's world phones are SIM locked, and you either have to get it unlocked, or use Verizon's SIM card. I figured it would be the same for this phone. However, I read somewhere that the pre-release version is unlocked out of the box. I'm guessing by pre-release, they mean the one that was given to the press at the launch event.
Anybody know if all the Ms are unlocked from the factory? Specifically, what I'm after is to find out if they can be used on AT&T or T-Mobile in the US without any modifications. The earlier Motorola world phones needed modifications to do so, but it's worth a shot to see if this maybe is different. Just being generally unlocked saves a step, too, but if someone can provide the information on whether it is unlocked for US bands, that would be great.
I can confirm it does not allow calls using a US T-Mobile SIM. It does show the voicemail indicator and my t-mo # correctly in settings, but I think its just reading that from the SIM card itself.
Doesn't verizon unlock after 90 days good standing? I know for iPhones they do. Might be something I'll try in a few months.

Thanks for the info! I'm not sure if that is the typical behavior or not. I forgot what my Droid Pro did before I unlocked it.
Verizon usually does unlock it if you've been a customer for more than 90 days. They still won't let you use the US networks, though...just international ones. Hopefully P3Droid and his team will work their magic on this one. I know he already ordered a Dev Edition of the M.

It sounds like it is SIM unlocked since it's reading from the T-Mobile SIM at all. I believe all the Razr & Razr Maxx officially come as SIM unlocked from the factory, so I would guess the Razr M would too. It still has the network block for US GSM networks, but that's different than the SIM card.
I'm interested in getting the Razr M to replace my Droid Pro, so if anyone could confirm, that would be great!

That could be, and maybe it's just Verizon's policy these days, considering the iPhone 5 ships unlocked (and the iP5 has no US band lock, either). Hopefully someone can try it with an international SIM when they travel and let us know.
Now that a few people have gotten the Dev version in their hands, any differences on that one as far as the SIM unlock goes? Since Verizon doesn't sell that directly, maybe Motorola left the US bands unlocked on that one.
Is The RAZR M SIM Unlocked From The Factory?
Is there anything new on this?
Sim is Unlocked, it will read any sim but US-Sim seem to be Radio Locked.
Which u can bypass by an Aussie Radio. And then u can use it on T-Mobile or AT&T
I will be able to verify in 1-2 weeks if it will work on an International Sim with out any modification.
Sending my GirlFriend her Razr M to Germany so she can test it on O2.
Yeah, it's unlocked, and you can use it on T-Mobile and AT&T with the Australian radio, but nobody has been able to consistently get 3G on either carrier.
Does anybody test the phone outside of the U.S?
Any word?

I can confim that the razr m is sim unlocked for international use out of the box no modification required. My sister uses one on koodo mobile (canadian service provider) with her koodo sim. When she comes back to the states she pops in the american sim it came with and uses on my verizon plan.

I can confirm that everything works internationally, tried in Italy and Singapore. Also, the network in italy was on the 900 frequency band, so that works for sure, haven't tested 1800 but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
Does it mean that all models of razr m are factory unlocked? I know there are 3 versions of razr m XT905, XT907 and XT902. Just wonder if I can unlock my XT902.

The T-Mobile USA Xperia Z C6606 Bootloader is locked

Well, I went to check out the T-Mobile branded Xperia Z C6606 at the Sony Style store and was disappointed to see that the bootloader is locked.
I was trying to get information online if it was locked or not but couldn'tget any confirmation. I know that it'sprobably locked by T-mobile, but I was hoping.

I've seen some phones in the past that were sold by T-Mobile or other carriers but were not bootloader locked. With T-Mobile's new business model and the fact that Sony was selling it outright at their stores, you would think that it should be unlocked.
All phones have locked bootloaders when they come from the store. 'Bootloader unlock allowed' means if it is allowed to unlock it yourself or not, but doing so will void your warranty and wipe your DRM keys (which are needed for Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2, MusicID/Gracenote, etc.).

sim locked and locked bootloader are two separate things. >.>
usually when some stores states "selling unlocked xperia/galaxy/iphone/ etc.." it means the phone is unlocked and it can be used anywhere else. When you purchase a phone from a store (Sony store) or carrier (At&T) it is locked to them. In other words, the phone cannot be used with another sim card like T-Mobile, since the phone is locked to At&t.

I totally understand what is sim and boot lock.
I've had in my hands a couple of Xperia devices from that company (Yoigo), one Xperia Mini Pro I think, and the other one a Xperia Z, and both had "Bootloader Unlockable: Yes" on the service menu.
I've read that some custom ROMs can still be flashed on this phone without unlocking the bootloader. Is this true?

T-Mobile isn't really known for locking bootloaders. Verizon on the other hand... When it comes to locked boot loaders it seems to be like this.
Locked carriers:
Verizon
at&t
Mostly unlocked carriers:
Sprint
T-Mobile
Phone brands locked:
HTC
Sony Xperia
sometimes LG
Phone brands not locked
Huawei
Samsung
This has just been my experience.

gotcha... just found out that the DooMLoRD Easy Rooting Toolkit was just updated to v17 to support my device...
all good now :good:
now i just need to upgrade to 4.2.2
I played with the TMO version today and find it inferior compared to my own C6602. The first problem is the branding and bloatware - yes it is bloated carrier style and a lot of TMO notifications where shown on the demo unit. One of the demo units had noticeable lag, much worse than my C6602 back in March on .350. The other one were smoother.
I managed to put System Tuner on one of them - it runs the standard Interactive governor and 384-1551 is the used frequencies.
The price tag was very high - $610, $579 with "appropriate plan". More expensive than in the Sony Store for an unbranded, unlocked and superior C6602.
I just don't see any reason to buy the TMO version when there is the C6602 available for less money (albeit at a small difference) that can be bootloader unlocked and optimized. Paying MORE for a carrier branded device? No way.
To those that feel that they need to talk LTE with me as a reason to buy the branded edition: wait for the Honami instead - it will offer a superior LTE radio, which means that it can be used on many carriers. I base this assumption on the nice multiband LTE radio that the Z Ultra offers.
After playing with the T-Mobile version, my recommendation of the C6602 instead is stronger than before.
To those that want to argue about prices: use a credit card instead if $539 is "too much".
t-mobile's wifi calling feature is the ONLY reason why i went with the C6606... having lte is nice too, i guess

I don't get the reason the have WiFi Calling when there is a little thing called Google Voice. I can make free calls to the whole US that way and even configure it as a 100% IP phone with GrooveIP. For international calls, I am using Viber or Voice (my relatives in Sweden use Viber so we have free calls).
To me, carrier bloat and locked bootloaders are total dealbreakers and I can't really see how WiFi Calling can compensate.
LTE? I will get it when I can buy a standard, unlocked device and use it. As long as I need carrier branding in order to use it - I say pass.

just got my Claro XT1058 moto-x

So this is a puerto rico model "ROW" xt1058. got it on ebay for $540 or so (some sellers shipping out of puerto rico have it for ~$500 for white ones, oddly the black ones cost more... and i wanted one shipped from a seller in the 48 states), shipped from some seller in illinois who probably bought a pile of them in puerto rico.
This same unit that negri sells.. http://negrielectronics.com/motorola-moto-x-16gb-claro-unlocked-black.html
Anyway, here is what I have to say about it.
I booted it up, and it started in english (i've heard if you get a latin america unit from other countries you have to change to spanish).
Its just like any american unit except made in china. Also I had a XT1053 t-mobile edition that i returned. Mine had a very minor scrape on the bottom back edge, and 2 little plastic defects on the LCD trim (like the one ifixit had on their unit). This chinese unit has none of that.
It also came unlocked, has no carrier branding anywhere or carrier apps. seems to be working ok so far on 4G. Also another nice thing it came with a mic / headset which the american ones don't come with. One other difference, the default background is the phasebeam not that american flag motif.
I suppose that is to make up for the labor costs who knows. So given the sellers on ebay don't charge tax, its about a $100 savings... haven't tried to unlock the bootloader yet but it is on the list, so should be no problem. if you are on at&t and want to save $100 over the xt1053 well this is an option.
also another difference i just noticed which is i guess of the marketing driven lies only in the US.
if you are on LTE on the claro phones it says "4G" in the status bar. if you are on HSPA or HSPA+ it says either H or H+. nice and non confusing.
on my t-mobile unit, it ALWAYS said 4G. with a tiny LTE on it if it was 4G LTE.

when i unlocked my razr m XT907 it was H+. but american carriers started marketing HSPA+ as 4G when verizon got LTE out here. so now its "accepted" than HSPA+ is "4G" in the US. like the iphone 4S people think is 4G here when it has no LTE. its not H+ on those phones either.
FYI anyone looking to buy a Claro Moto X, have no fear ordering a unit form Puerto Rico. Its a US territory, and shipping is done via USPS (unless its shipped fedex/usps). It will literally take only an extra day to get to you via Priority Mail. Usually like ordering something coming from HI or Alaska. Sometimes you even get it in the 2-3 day priority time frame.

Drats. No, it's definitely hardware dependent. For example, a GT-I9300 can use Wallet just fine on AT&T while the SGH-I747 cannot. Wallet was the only reason I was considering trading my current Moto X in for a DE version. Guess once the GSM DE guys get their phones tomorrow, we'll know for sure.

Should I leave it as a Verizon variant or convert it?

Hello,
I just moved back home to Guam a few weeks ago from Colorado and I am wondering how I should go about getting service in Guam.
After I pay off my Wife's and I services with Verizon I want to try and connect it with the carriers here. To my understanding, after I pay Verizon the early termination fees etc, the phones should be unlocked*carrier unlocked*?
The phones in question are the HTC 10*mine* and S7 Edge*wife's*, we spoke with Verizon before we left, they told us that the phones are unlocked already and wouldn't have any issues using other carriers.
Should I change the HTC 10 to the Unlocked variant is this even possible? I've read about unlocking it to T-mobile or ATT etc so should I leave it and see what my local carriers can do or should I get it in an unlocked carrier state?
Before we left I used a Sprint variant of the M7, lots have changed since then, I didn't have to do anything to change the MID etc, I was sorta gimped on Data connection, but that was a few years ago, NO 4g LTE, but now the local carriers are on it.
Thanks for your time
If you stay with Verizon, keep the stock software. Also you're already sim-unlocked.
If you change to a GSM carrier, not sure the VZW software will work or not but you can definitely "convert" it to the U.S Unlocked version. That's the easiest/safest way since both phones have the same MID. You'll need S-off ($25).
I am S-off already.
Would being U.S unlocked be a viable option to not have issues trying to connect with local carriers?

First, great info above me. 2nd, you could actually go ahead and superCID and run latest 1.96.617.20 US Unlocked RUU. I'd say the best method is to try them out, RUU or firmware. If on a custom ROM and say chose VZW, you'd have to flash again and chose US unlocked. If you are on stock ROM then I'd try and see if it works as vzw says. If not I'd flash The Us unlocked firmware (modified for vzw you may need the radio.img and cardio.img that is normally removed). Best of luck my friend. I hope all goes well!
Will I have issues flashing viper after SuperCID?
OR should I go down to my carrier and try my luck as the device stands?
Thanks a lot!

No issues at all. Supercid, basically makes it so you can flash any firmware and other things like RUU from other carriers like us unlocked -- (so make sure you know what you're flashing!!!) .
I'm not sure of your carrier or what they'd say. I'd honestly play it by ear and see what happens. I have faith that with the 10 you will be able to get everything working; although I can't say for sure.

I'm using a Verizon phone flashed with Unlocked ruu on a GSM network. The conversion improved the phone for me. Better reception in my area, able to connect to more lte bands, txt msgs come/go faster, and the initial connection to the network after boot up or getting outta airplane mode is much faster since I got away from VZW stock software. Also you get OTA updates as they become available, and you don't have to deal with Verizon's worthless software modifications like no battery saver mode, Wi-Fi notifications, etc if you're gonna stay stock.
Flashing the Unlocked firmware is your best bet. The only thing I'll add is that if possible find out what bands are being used by the carriers over there, and see if its compatible.
HTC 10 Unlocked Band Support:
LTE Bands FDD 2,3,4,5,7,12,13,17,29; 2G GSM/GPRS/EDGE - 850/900/1800/1900; 3G UMTS - 850/AWS/900/1900/2100; LTE - FDD - B28/B12/B13/B17/B29/B20/B5/B4/B3/B2/B1/B30/B7.

The installer installs prerequisites first. Then launches the installer. Did you get that far?

Okay I am trying again now...
It's going further than it did the other time..
It gave me error 155 and 170.. even with a full battery...
So I can just RUU the U.S Unlocked version and and try and use the radios, if not I can just flash back the VZW RUU with no ill effects?
SuperCID to 11111111....

If on Verizon you won't get any service on unlocked without Verizon radios. Why not just flash a custom rom?

Nothing preventing you to convert from VZW to U.S Unlocked, as long as you're s-off. I'm running Unlocked Oreo on my VZW variant.

Moto Z Force UK Update

Fellow Z force users, it has been announced that the 7.0 update is near. Maybe even today for some. My question is would I receive it like everyone else if im using it in the UK on a Network other than Verizon.
Good question. I'm in Canada, so wondering if I'll just get the OTA as well.
I do hope so. Maybe someone here has experience updating when out of U.S.
Yes, you should receive it even if you are outside of the US. My Droid Turbo got the updates when Verizon released it and I am in the UAE. So should not be a problem. Dont worry guys.
