Swype
Is Swype available on stock fw, if yes how could it be activated?
It's all in the first post! It's kind of like a cut down version, it's a mash up of the samsung keyboard and swype.
I have installed the swype beta, and while on the s3 the swype keyboard height is about a third shorter than other keyboards I still prefer it over the stock.
If you want a real swype experience then your better off applying for the beta, the version in the s3 is very limited.

For some reason the Swype installer doesn't work on mine. When I run it, I get a parsing error.
I'm quite liking the built in Samsung 'swype' feature. But then i'm new to this kind of input, but it's def quicker and more accurate for me than using the standard way. My girlfriend loves Swiftkey on her GSII though and i may try that at some point.
In regards to tips, when in the contact list, you can swipe along the right hand side and flick through the alphabet quicker, as usual, but if you push your finger further left while doing this it will then narrow the search even more.
Hope that makes sense!

I won't include that in the first post as it is not s3 specific. But thanks anyway

@LennyUK How about including how to activate Direct Call & Smart Alert as it's deactivated by default.
Go to Settings -> Motion -> Direct Call / Smart Alert
Does anyone know how and where Tap to Top works?

After activating it from motion settings, gently double tap on the top of the phone to go to the top of a list, unfortunately it only works in contacts and email. Another thing is that it sometimes needs more than one trial to work!

Install call vibrate from market to allow vibration when call is activated or deactivated
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Must install Light flow from market as well. It uses the LED function of SIII to max. You can customize 8~9 colors for various alerts. e.g i use orange for low battery, red for missed calls, green for missed sms, white for charging, green for full charge, blue for no signal etc.
Although sometimes the charging light doesn't come on when playing around with phone and switching it to sleep mode but hopefully fix will fix this issue.
Must have app though
Enable Palm swipe to capture from Settings -> Motion and show it off to iPhone users...

I managed to get Swype installed on my stock Pebble Blue.
Got Swype Installer & attempted for about 10 times over Wifi before it finally started downloading.
Before that, I kept getting the "Parsing.." error.
There was nothing new / different in my attempts - just had to keep hammering at it to download.
Just found these neat tricks on http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_iii-review-757p3.php
"There's one more trick - you wake the phone (tap the power button or the home key), then press and hold the screen and rotate the phone horizontally. It will unlock and start the camera as soon as it's in the right orientation to snap a photo"
"Shaking the device lets you detect nearby Bluetooth devices, as well as update your email, news or weather apps."

Light flow is really nice but it didn't work as i wanted it to...
after install and reboot of the phone all suddenly it started to speak if i opened a folder or closed one so i had to remove it for a while lets hope the developer will fix that bug lol
A great alternative!!
Touchpal keyboard is an awesome alternative for swype.
Download it from playstore.
If anyone's phone feels a little sluggish (I know mine doesn't) you could try enabling 2D hardware acceleration to make it a bit more snappy
(settings->developer options->force gpu rendering)
please note this may drain your battery more than usual

How does it look on your phone? Is it a shorter keyboard as I've reported in the q and a forum? (as in it's height is about a third shorter than other keyboards).
Hi Guys,
Hope someone can advise me on the below
Problem 1
Got my Note 4 on the 17th, I’ve come from a Note 3, starting to get used to the using left button to bring up recent apps however a function that I used regularly is no longer there.
On my Note 3 I could hold down the home button to bring up my recent apps, and if you long press on any of the recent apps it would show the option “show app info” which would then take you to the menu to manage that application, (the screen where you can Force Stop the app, Disable it, Clear data and Clear Cache)
I can no longer do this on my note 4, when I open recent apps menu and long press the application it just put’s the app into a pop up window, no such option to directly manage that application.
Am I missing something here? Or is it a case of just having to live with it?
Problem 2
No big deal really but when I plug in my headphones a notification will pop up saying they are plugged in, on my note 3 it would also show recent apps used with headphones and I can quickly choose the app I’d like to use, my note 4 no longer does this, it will only show a notification that they are plugged in, no option to select app.
( I know a lot of people found this annoying but it didn’t really bother me)
Thanks in Advance

all the little things like the headphone bit are missing from note 4 compared to note 3 they have the features in the hidden settings but even if you turn them on they don't work very odd indeed....
Out of interest where can I find these hidden options?
I'm rooted now if that helps
Cheers

INTRODUCTION
We are excited to announce a new software update for Moto Maxx*by Motorola. This update brings Android™ 6.0.1**Marshmallow to your phone along with other improvements.
For more information on Motorola updates and repairs, visit us atwww.motorola.com/mymotox.
NOTE: You cannot downgrade to a previous software version after installing this update.
ENHANCEMENTS
Android™ 6.0.1**Marshmallow improves your mobile experience with battery-smart features and new app permissions that give you even more control.
After installing the software update you may notice changes that include:
Doze modeDoze mode is a new smart feature that helps to preserve your phone’s battery life: it recognizes when your device is idle and automatically goes into a deep sleep state. How does it work? When your phone is stationary, not charging and not in use for a long period of time, Doze mode shuts down unnecessary background processes to optimize power.App Standby
App Standby helps to reduce the battery drain of your phone by putting your seldom-used apps into a reduced activity state. You can choose which apps are applicable to App Standby:
1.* Swipe the status bar down with two fingers and tap the gear icon at the top right corner of your screen.
2.* Once in the Settings menu, scroll down and select Battery.
3.* Tap the menu icon (3 vertical dots) at the top right corner of the screen and select Battery optimization. The greyed out list of apps under “Not optimized” cannot be added to App Standby.
4.* Select “All apps” from the drop down list, then tap the app you want to adjust:
Select “Optimize” to include the app in App Standby to optimize battery life when it’s not in use.
Select “Don’t optimize” to remove the app from App Standby. Apps listed as “Not optimized” may keep running in the background and may drain your battery more quickly.App permissions
In Android Marshmallow you have even more control over what you share with your apps. With the new permissions model, apps designed for Marshmallow only ask for permissions at the time it’s needed to use a feature, instead of all at once when you install the app. You can modify the permissions granted to apps at any time from the settings menu, or you can look at permissions by type and see which apps have that permission granted.
To modify permissions for an app:
Swipe the status bar down with two fingers and tap the gear icon at the top right corner of your screen.
Once in the Settings menu, scroll down and tap Apps, then select the app you want to adjust.
Go to Permissions in the app menu and tap the switch of the permission you want to grant or revoke for that app.
To modify permissions by type:
Swipe the status bar down with two fingers and tap the gear icon at the top right corner of your screen.
Once in the Settings menu, scroll down and tap Apps, then tap the gear icon at the top right corner of the Apps screen.
Go to App permissions and select the type of permission you want to adjust from the list.
Tap the switch for the app you want to grant/revoke that permission.App links
Android Marshmallow lets you decide what the right action is for each of your apps when you tap a web link. There are three actions you can set:
Open in this app: when you tap a supported link, Android will always open the app without asking.
Ask every time: Android will always ask if you want to open the link in the app or in the Chrome browser.
Don’t open this app: Android will always open the link in the Chrome browser.
To set up the App links action and to check the supported links for a specific app:
Swipe the status bar down with two fingers and tap the gear icon at the top right corner of your screen.
Once in the Settings menu, scroll down and tap “Apps”, then select the app you want to adjust.
Go to “Open by default” in the apps menu. Tap “Open supported links” to select the action.
If you want to check which links are supported for that app, tap “Supported links”.Do not disturb
You can now easily configure interruptions by tapping the Do not disturb button in the quick settings panel. There are 3 different modes that you can set from this menu:
Priority only*blocks all interruptions except those from contacts and apps that you flag as important.
Total silence*blocks all interruptions, including priority and alarms.
Alarms only*blocks everything but your alarms.
The new Do not disturb feature also allows multiple automatic rules by time or event. To set automatic rules and to define what’s considered as "priority only” notifications:
Swipe the status bar down with two fingers, then tap the gear icon at the top right corner of your screen.
Once in the Settings menu, scroll down and tap Sound & notification, then go to Do not disturb.
In addition, you can decide which apps are treated as priority. Notifications from these apps will go off in “Priority only” mode. To treat an app as priority:
Swipe the status bar down with two fingers and tap the gear icon at the top right corner of your screen.
Once in the Settings menu, scroll down and tap Apps, then select the app you want to adjust.
Go to Notifications in the apps menu and tap “Treat as priority”.Volume controls
Android Marshmallow provides a more clean and intuitive way to control the ringtone, media and alarm volume. Just press and hold the side volume keys to adjust your ringtone volume, then tap the down arrow*in the volume slider that appears at the top of your screen to adjust the media and alarm volume.
Mute: when Do not disturb mode isn't enabled and the phone volume is set to vibrate, press the volume down button again to activate the "Alarms only" mode. You won't be interrupted by calls, emails and other notifications, but your alarms will still go off.
Now on Tap
Now on Tap* provides Google Now contextual results right in the app you are using. Just tap and hold down the home button and Now on Tap will assist you with relevant information based on whatever you are doing in your phone at that moment.
Let's say you receive a text message from a friend inviting you to watch a new movie. Just long press the home button, and Now on Tap will provide links to info about that movie and shortcuts to the apps you may need. Once you’re done, the back button will take you right back to the messaging app so you can reply to your friend.
*For a list of supported languages, please visit the Google Now On Tap help web page. To change the language of your device, open Settings from the apps tray and scroll down to Language & input.
Direct Share
Direct Share* is a new feature in Android Marshmallow that enables sharing something directly to a contact or conversation within an app. Tap the share icon in the app and at the top of the share panel, a list of contacts with app icons next to their names will pop-up. Then just pick the contact and hit send.
*Note that Direct Share needs to be enabled by the developers of each app. Not all apps my offer Direct Share when Marshmallow launches.
Moto Display and Ambient DisplayIn Android Marshmallow, Ambient Display has been removed from devices with Moto Display, and users previously on Ambient Display have been migrated to Moto Display.
Now, to turn on and off Moto Display, open the Moto app, then tap the icon on the top right corner of the screen, go to Display and tap the switch at the top.Moto Assist
In Marshmallow, Android introduced new features which enabled us to integrate Assist into other places:
Sleeping and Meeting - to keep your phone quiet while you are sleeping or while you are busy in a meeting you may wish to consider using the Do not disturb feature from Android. To set it up, swipe the status bar down with two fingers and tap the gear icon at the top right corner of your screen. Once in the Settings menu, scroll down and tap Sound & notification, then go to Do not disturb. To keep your screen dark while you are sleeping, open the Moto app, tap the icon on the top right corner of your screen, then go to Display and set the time under Keep screen dark.
Driving and Places - To allow your phone to read your messages and calls out loud while you are driving or when you are at a specific location, open the Moto app, then tap the icon on the top right corner of the screen, go to Voice and select Talk to me. Note: “Keep quiet” while driving and at locations, and “Play music” while driving, are no longer supported.
Motorola Connect Google Chrome Extension

You may still use it until November of this year, at which time it will be retired. In addition, other consumers have successfully used Android Device Manager to ring and locate their phones.
Motorola Migrate

In the meantime, you may wish to choose another app as an alternative for data transfers. Although we do not warranty or endorse these products, other consumers have had success with apps such as Copy My Data, Phone Copier, ShareIt, etc. which are all on Google Play Store.
Motorola Alert*If you are a Motorola Alert user please note that the application will be removed from your device on the Marshmallow upgrade. Nevertheless, you will be able to download it again from the Play Store.Android SecurityIncludes the updates of Android security patches until May*1st 2016.Power button to launch cameraYou can now launch the camera by double-pressing the power button.Unicode 8.0 Emoji supportEvery emoji up to the Unicode 8.0 update now displays on your phone. They just announced it. He probably doesn't actually have the update yet. Otherwise he would show screenshot.
It's the exact same announcement they made for Brazil Marshmallow but it didn't actually roll out until a couple of weeks later.

Nougat? Motorola hasn't even released stock Marshmallow for all the Moto Maxx phones yet! The U.S. Moto Maxx XT1250 (clone of the XT1254 Droid Turbo in every way -- FCC ID, radio bands) is still on 5.0.2 Lollipop!
None of the Quarks are on the Motorola Nougat list, which was released months ago by Motorola/Lenovo. Would be very unusual to give an unannounced Noguat 7.X update, since Motorola/Lenovo seems to want to do less work -- not more -- regarding updates to their customers.
Motorola announced Marshmallow for Quarks October 2, 2015. WHEN did they deliver it?
XT1225 Moto Maxx/Moto Turbo got it in July 2016 (9 months later),
Took Motorola until December 2016 (13 months) to actually give it to the Droid Turbo XT1254 --
U.S. Moto Maxx still does not have Marshmallow (16 months and counting).
If you want Nougat, unlock your bootloader and flash any of the custom Nougat 7.X ROM we have available. Here's the current custom Nougat (7.x) Quark ROMs to choose from.

Hey guys,
So today I tried S-Health for the first time, and I am pleased with the functionality and features of the app.
However I want to know how I can disable the constant tracking of steps.
Under Manage Items, the option is greyed out and says "Cannot remove default tracker".
I want to use the app when I want to use the app.
Up to now I had excellent battery life on my S7E, sometimes up to 3 days on a single charge, but this app and tracker seams to be munching away and if there is no way to disable the steps tracker, I am afraid I will have to find another app and permanently disable this one. Would be a shame though.
Thanks in advance. I am not going to root because of strict warranty purposes.
There are guides on the internet related to older versions of the app and earlier Samsung models. I couldn't find any solution for the latest version on our phones yet.
go into shealth app and you will see how many steps u have done today. u tap on it and u will come to a screen were it shows all the steps u have made and other stuff. u will we see a word that saids "more"at the top tap that it says pause counting steps. i already paused mine so that why it says to restart counting steps.
Thanks a lot! It worked just as you described.

I have the same problem as the original poster and I tried your solution. Unfortunately, when I get to the screen you mention, I have no "more" at the top, but just "share". Apparently there is no way to pause the pedometer. I have a Gear Fit, which I often connect to the phone (Note3 with Android 5.0), but when I tried to stop the pedometer it was not connected. If I connect it, there is no difference. I'm using Samsung Health (not S-Health, they recently changed the name during an update). Do you have any suggestions? Have you upgraded to Samsung Health, and do you still see the "more" button?
BTW, if I tap the lower left button on the phone I get a menu that says "set target" and "view your step count data"; if I choose the last one, it allows me to select data from the phone or from the gear fit, or both. However, no option to pause the pedometer.

I have the same problem here. how can we turn off the pedometer on the phone? I have s7 edge. Issue I have is the phone is recording my steps and also my gear fit 2 is aswell and then pushes the combined total to my fitnness pal and under armour record which of course gives me inaccurate results. Has anyone resolved this?

Thanks a lot, your solution just worked perfectly. The only difference in my Note3 is that I don't have the 3 dots on the top right corner, but only "Share". However, once I select the mobile phone only, if I tap the left button on the bottom (the one next to the home button) I get to the menu where I can choose to pause counting steps. Thanks again!

The "more" to which the OP referred is the 3-dot overflow button, not the word "more."
The important step missing is that you have to choose Mobile Phone (by default is ALL STEPS when you have some gear) and only then you will see the option to pause the menu. If you have ALL STEPS you will not see it.
In the latest version of S Health, you actually have to select "Mobile Phone", not "All Steps" when you have a Gear device. Once you select Mobile Phone, then the Pause Counting Steps option appears in the menu.
Okay so how do I remove this annoying feature that I don't like that keeps locking on me while I'm trying to use my dialer pad during a phone call it locks with in that second if I hesitate while I'm trying to tap numbers or whatever. Is there a way to remove this?

I bought my LG K51 last May 2021 (not knowing they stopped making the phones a month before) then in February 2022 it started the "swipe unlock icon to use call options" i tried to get Metro PCS to replace the phone with something else because i can not disable that feature I WOULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT THE PHONE if it had done it at the time of purchase and they DID NOT tell me they stopped making LG phones the month before. Does anyone know how to go to the root menu or anything else to stop or disable this sabotaged phone ?
go into apps, select show system. find phone with a blue "phone" icon . select it and clear cache, then go into advanced and uncheck or disable "Open on top of apps" or similar... do this for all apps with "phone" icon that you think has any connection to the dialer.. hope this helps.
