Although I have been able to copy this file in the past, recently I began getting a message that says it is locked because another process is using a portion of it. And this when there are no running processes on the device (according to Spb Pocket Plus). Anyone have an idea on what may be accessing the file?
Thanks!

Maybe a today calendar plugin like todayagenda, pocket breeze etc.. disable them thru today\options then try copying again.
My question to you would be are you using resco order the default file explorer. only the default explorer will let you copy this file. resco and other file explorer are guarded against this due to it being a
"safe " file . Good luck
...it must be something else because i can copy it with gsplayer while it isn't my default file-explorer. Even with pocketinformant opened it's not locked for me. Can you see with i.e. SK Tools processes if one of the program/system processes uses pim.vol?...
meschle,
I had thought of that and removed Calendar from my Today screen Items. I had no other plugins that would utilize PIM data. But thank you for the suggestion. BTW, I also want to thank you for some very good information I've learned from reading your posts. And I'm also running your Black Skins on my Today screen and dialer.
kinmont,
That was it, thank you! I had been using Resco. As soon as I switched to MS Explorer all was well again. And even though I'm backing up with Spb Backup I still like having the actual pim.vol file in a couple of places as backups.
Regards,
Tref
p.s. Thanks to you also Krinkiespijer for trying to help!
Try to DL a taskmanager program and cancel out anything that maybe running. OR try to clear out any currently running programs under start>setting>system>memory>running programs
Also, if you have a backup copy of the pim.vol file, rename the existing file to pimold.vol and copy the one you want into the "my device" directory
I try to keep an updated copy of the pim.vol file on my storage card.
Anytime before upgrading my phone, I copy the pim.vol file over to the storage card, upgrade the phone, rename the new file to pimold.vol and copy the one from the storage card back into the default directory.
Hope this helps.
It was Resco's refusal to copy the file that was the problem. Nothing was open or using it. MS File Explorer copied it fine. And yes, keeping a copy on the storage card is excellent advice. So is keeping a copy of the corresponding .pst file on the PC somewhere safe.
Cheers
Alright well I have my micro sd card in my device, and all my music on the SD card in the My Music folder, but for some reason the device doesn't want to recognize the songs. I can play the songs by going to the file explorer, but it's a pain to do. I go to WMP and click menu > library > and only see my device, no storage card. I go to update library, it finds the 60+ files, but only adds the 2 stock audio files. Help is appreciated.
Anyone know whats going on? Help would be greatly appreciated.

Please use the search function, this issue has been discussed several times.
Anyway, delete the folder "MSMETADATA" on your card and try again....

scholbert
^^ There is no folder called "MSMETADATA." However there is a folder called "Data," should I delete that?

No this won't help i assume.
Please try again and use your host pc and a card reader.
Make sure that all files are shown in windows explorer, also hidden and system files.
MSMETADATA is a system folder, it is not visible in mobile file explorer.
Alternatively you may install total commander or resco file explorer on your device.
Have a look here or search the forum:

Thanks. Worked. Forgot to enable the view of hidden files like you said.

never mind...I found it
Uploaded a couple of .pdf files from my desktop to the SD card.
Can't seem to find a way to see the file directory. (Not rooted)
Do I need an app for that? (If so, which one?)
Can I bring it up in Dolphin or Chrome browser, and if so, what is the Path?
Should I have loaded the .pdf into a sub-directory on the SD card? If so, what should I name it?
TIA for any suggestions.
I've been using a program called androzip as a file explorer... just find the file you want and open it
Thanks!
I evenually made a sub-directory on the SD card and put the .pdf in it, and download a .pdf app... which then found the file, but only once it was moved to the sub-folder.
I'm still curious to know what path to use to locate/open a local file in a browser...
Thanks.

Sorry to bug everyone with another problem - I don't really have all that many and love my HD2 to bits!
Due to stupidity, I had my phone connected to my PC running XP, and in File Explorer accidentally deleted some folders in My Documents in the main memory (not the storage card).
I tried to recover them, but no luck. They are not in the PC's Recycle Bin, and they are not in any Recycle Bin on the phone. I have no idea where they are and would love to recover them.
Surely when you use your PC to delete files from your phone they are not purged without going somewhere??
If so, then am I out of luck?
And if so, would someone be kind enough to tell me what folders I ought to have in My Documents in my main memory?
I still have:
My Pictures
My POI
My Wallpapers
Templates
but I know I did delete some other folders. Any ideas what should be there? I have installed in my main memory the programs in the attached jpg.
Sorry to bother you all, but I'm annoyed with myself and would love some help.
Thanks,
David

Hi, ever try this one?
"Mobiletimes RestoreUs" (somekind of recovery software for WinMo, just google it - sorry as a new user I'm not allowed to post outside links )
Said it could recover files from both memory card and main memory as well.
I don't wanna think I'll need this software later, but who knows
Hope it can help, let me know the result!!
Cheers,
Jekul
you could always hard reset. It will bring the proper folders back to My Documents though what is lost will stay lost.
I'm guessing if any programs are pointed to the My Documents area, they will create a folder if needed.
My Documents (phone):
1. Business
2. Data
3. My Music
4. My Pictures
5. My Ringtones
6. My Videos
7. My Wallpapers
8. Personal
9. SwypeData
10. Templates

I've had the DAF WP7 rom for about a month now..works pretty great after doing some registry tweaks. Anyway, I've put together this ebook (.epub format) and emailed it to myself and downloaded the ebook attachment from my gmail, and I downloaded an ebook/epub reader (Freda) from the Marketplace to see if the format was correct--to test the epub on my HD2. But when I launched Freda, the only ebooks that are displayed in the Bookshelf are the ones that came with the app..
I looked around in Touchxplorer to see if I could find my epub so I could try to copy and paste it to the root folder to see if Freda would be able to then find and load them, but the only thing by way of an email attachment I was able to find was in this folder.. APPLICATION DATA/VOLATILE/EMAIL ATTACHMENTS .. but the attachments I had downloaded were displayed as .DAT files--I don't know what this means..data files?--anyway, they won't open and I doubt Freda could recognize them anyway, even if I were to copy and paste them in root folder..
Anybody have any idea how I can find the files I've downloaded from my email as attachments? I noticed the first day I flashed the rom that the Storage Card in Touchxplorer wasn't a folder but just a file (I think it's a .DAT file also), so I guess the 16GB card I have in the phone is pretty useless? That sucks, but I at least want to be able to download files (besides pictures, those work fine) and be able to access them.
Thanks!

Generally the emailing of an attachment will only work if you can open the attachment in a WP7 application like Adobe or Excel. I have found that once downloaded and opened the file is visible and available from the application. For example, if you email a pdf file and open it, it is available when you open Acrobat, even after you delete the email.
For a file that cannot be directly run by a WP7 application, you are out of luck using email because it cannot be opened and there is no option to save it.

Maybe send the .epub to Freda for publishing and download it from the catalogue.
Or find the source code for Freda (it's out there somewhere) and use that to modify either your file or the program???
I'm not sure TouchXplorer (in WP7) sees any SD Card in any other way than a .dat file.
According to all the posts and literature the SD Card and the internal memory in WP7 at least, are in practice one and the same.
>Settings>about, to see how much Available Storage you have. Anything resembling a figure near to your SD Capacity means the SD Card is working and being read as expected by WP7.

I think that this might be the only way I can go.. I just want to load up my epub so I can preview the formatting and layout and make sure everything looks okay.
Thanks for the link!

Not sure if I'd be able to modify the Freda source code, or even to what end.. I got this XAP (don't remember what it's called just now) and on the opening page it had a lot of info about my device and the amount of free storage was around 12 or 13 GB, so I think that the ROM is using my SD card.. ah well, these ROMs are pretty new and I'm sure the devs will really surprise us with the features they can implement.
Thanks for the info buddy..
could you just rename the file type from DAT to epub? that's what I do when I want to read mobi on kindle app
To get an EPUB onto your phone for reading with Freda, put the EPUB into a DropBox folder, an OPDS catalog (for instance by running Calibre on your PC), or onto a web-site. Freda can fetch EPUB files from any of those locations.
