Flashing/Rooting/Unlocking/Modding/Xposed A2017/A2017U vs. A2017G - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Hey guys,
this has probably already been discussed before, but 1) i can't find clear answers and 2) I'd like to have the info at one spot (here).
I will be ordering a A2017G. Can i use Flashing/Rooting/Unlocking/Roms/Kernels made for A2017U? Or is there a risk of bricking the A2017G?
Any experiences?
Thanks!

1- the easiest variant to unlock Bootloader and root is the US variant (A2017U).
2- CM is base on the US Variant, but this DOESN'T mean will be only for that variant.
P.S. I'm using the US variant (A2017U) and i live in the USA.

US-EU Version Differents

Hi all. I'm plannig to buy ZTE Axon 7 from US. but I've some questions;
1. What is the code name of US version or EU Version like A2017U?
2. I like flashing custom rom etc, is it problem for different version or all files or roms are competible with all versions?
3. Are there any different except bands between EU-US version?

1) China = A2017, USA = A2017U, EU = A2017G
2) The only one you can flash on is A2017U as it has an unlocked bootloader but you lose the passport 2.0 warranty if you do this.
3) No differences except there is volume limits on the EU version which people forget about because of EU law and physically on the back of the device the US version says Axon underneath the fingerprint and EU does not.

No you can currently only flash on the US version due to it being the only one with unlocked bootloader.

There is a way to flash TWRP on the European model without unlocking the bootloader (http://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/wip-axon-7-root-bootloader-unlokced-t3441204), and use it to root, but currently there is no way to flash custom ROMs (like the CM13 alpha) on the European model.

i'll buy US version. EU model is not important for me
Well last night a bootloader unlock was released for both models but noone has tried it yet for the EU model so noone knows if it works and im hesitant to try it first as i use it as my daily driver. If it does work then you can flash roms.

That method only works on the US model. The European model is different. Nobody has tried the new bootloader unlock method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/how-to/guide-how-to-unlock-bootloader-stay-t3461165) on the European model yet.

Someone was able to flash the European model's firmware on the US model, but as suspected, it broke the modem. You'll have to manually backup the modem from the US model, then flash the European firmware, and then restore the US model's modem in order to have network connectivity.
Make sure to read the entire topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/how-to/info-successfully-flashed-a2017g-b02-to-t3451817

Which Variant to Buy?

Hey all,
So I'm looking to upgrade to the V20 from my aging Flex2. I'm a power user, so I like to be able to customize as many aspects of my experience as I can. I live in Australia, so I need to know 3/4 things mainly:
1. Which variant should I buy to work in Australia? Am I right to assume the US996 variant would work fine unlocked? I'm currently using an unlocked AT&T variant of the Flex 2.
2. How important is the bootloader unlock? I saw that LG has released an unlock for the US996 variant, but is it required for a lot of custom ROM support? Are there unlocks for other variants?
3. Which variant has the most dev support/activity? If I were to put a custom ROM on the phone instead of just sticking with stock rooted, is it better to get a global variant over the US996 one? The H918 T-Mobile variant looks to have the most custom ROM support on the Dev section.
Cheers guys. Looking forward to becoming part of the community.

[Q] LG V20 Newbie Needs Help!

Hello Good evening guys,
I just sold my Nexus 6 and looking at LG V20. I usually customize and flash ROMs. I am looking at two different LG V20 models.
1) South Korean F800
2) Unlocked USA models (VS995, US996, H918)
3) Any European model? (Do they have great ROM support?)
I want to make sure that phone is able to unlock bootloader, root, and have great custom ROM support. Which model is best suitable for me?
Thank you and sorry for creating a new thread. I searched info but couldn't find much details.
I believe a big factor is the patch level... right now mine is on 10R which I believe is un-rootable.

H918 would be the best bet. Just patch lvl is what will kill you. Need anything below 10P
Sent from my LG V20 using XDA Labs
Is downgrade possible on F800L April 2017 patch with F800L10y build?

Best model for rooting?

Hey guys
Ive searched the forums before posting this question
I saw that the US996 is recommended for rooting
I was wondering if there was any other model that supports GSM (att/ tmobile) and I can unlock and root?
As the US996 is very expensive compared to any other model..
Would an unlocked H910, H918, VS995, or LS997 work??
I want to root and change roms etc.. but economically

Is the us996 "rootable" still?

Hi all, I just got a sprint ls997 but was disappointed to see that my firmware(or software, I dunno) update of ZVA prevents me from rooting the phone. Now I'm considering buying an unlocked (us996) version, but am having issues with this forum from inexperience. What I find is guides for installing custom ROMs, rooting, etc. but they seem not to talk about the requirements of your phone or the firmware updates you need to be before in order for it to work. I had this issue with my sprint version; the guide said you could install the ROM on an ls997, but did not mention anything else. So I just need someone who understands all of this modding stuff to tell me. Could I just go buy a us996 right now and be able to root it? Is it still possible?
Thank you!
As far as I know, pretty much any other V20 model is still rootable nowadays. There are different rooting guides for different models, and most should tell you the exact requirements if you look carefully. Regarding the US996, there are actually three variations of it, and one of them is by far the easiest V20 to root since it is the only one supported by LG for unlocking the bootloader on their website. The trick will be identifying and finding this unlocked US996 USA variant, and you can find more info in this older thread.

Hmm. Is the LS997 totally locked down in terms of unlocking the bootloader? I got a US996 and unlocked it, but unfortunately the service is not compatible with Sprint.
The only way an LS997 can be rooted is if it hasn't been updated past May 1, 2017 (Software version LS997ZV7 - I happen to be using one of these). Anything after that is irreversibly locked down, and unfortunately, those older LS997 models are very hard to find nowadays. Ironically, many of them have been cross-flashed with US996 firmware to be used on GSM networks, mostly overseas (you'd be able to tell from the sticker behind the battery if it hasn't been peeled off). And yes, the LS997 is the only V20 model that can be used on the Sprint network.
