Hi all
I lost my galaxy s2 two days ago. I called my phone a few times until the person who has found it, shut it down.
Unfortunately I did not activate utrack. All I have my IMEI. Here in Switzerland only my provider does blacklist IMEI-Numbers, so that sucks too.
Anybody got any idea, or should I leave it??
There is not much you can do if you didn't activate tracking in phone(samsungdive) or use some aplication for that purpose.
Tracking is i think.by.default active if u logged in to samsung account

This app could have helped you, had you not called the number and warned the person that you are looking for the phone.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.lookout.labs.planb&feature=search_result
if the phone is still on you can still try to install that app via the link above.
Sign into the market on your PC using your google account.
Choose to install "Lookout Plan B" to your phone.
If it is on and with network connection, with your data remaining, it should be installed.
if who found your phone know a little bit about android i think the first thing he does is to delete your gmail account to prevent you from install apps from the web...so if you can't lock by imei there's nothing else you can do i guess

hey guys
Many Many thanks for that great input. I am talking about Plan B. The chance that somebody knowing about android found it, isnt that big. I did install it over the market and it said, that its going to be installed, so i am praying for my luck know.
Will keep you guys up-to-date.
Thanks once again.
for all these things (Plan B and Dive) to even work the phone must be on, must be on 3G data plan service, or be on Wifi. If you had the data off when you lost it, and the finder does not enable it by some rare miracle, you will never find it.
Most probably you are screwed OP. I lost my SGS1 the same way.
You can however try sending to your number a text message that says "Get $$ reward for this phone, call XXXXX" or something similar, and hope the crook will decide to return your phone. For this to work the phone must only be on and must be on a cell network (no data required).
Last option is to print reward ads and stick them to light poles in the area where you lost the phone.

hmmm... And I thought my lost-phone-karma was positive, since I found and SGS1 a few months ago and returned it to the owner immediatly.
well, my only chance is, the phone will be connected to a wireless connection, since ive got my sim blocked through the provider. The hope is gone but who knows, miracles can happen
Firstly, good luck carthago, I hope you find your phone!
Secondly, and just for curiosity, does anyone know if could Samsung DIVE, Tektrak, Lookout and those similar tools can operate if the person who find the phone do a factory reset or flash a new firmware? I doubt that it could be possible, however I'm not an expert.
If there is no way for those tools to work after a factory reset or a flashing a new firmware, their usefulness is limited to the case that the thief either an idiot (regarding the factory reset) or computer illiterate (regarding re-flashing the phone).
In the case of free tools, any remote possibility of help is welcome, of course (better than nothing), however there are also many paid apps which purport to be THE solution this kind of problem.
No they don't work after factory reset

All those tools are good IF you lost the phone, realized it right away, ran to the nearest computer and activated the tools, provided the phone is still reachable and on data network.
For the crooks who STEAL the expensive phones, the business is a fine tuned machine. 10 people run around stealing, and the immediately turn them off or remove battery. then they bulk-sell them to phone hackers who produce brand new freshly installed phones that can be sold at local flea market
Deactivating the IMEI I think will do anything only if the new owner tries to activate the phone on the same network.
First I was calling my phone again and again, cause I thought perhaps it was laying around somewhere and so I could hear it. But then that asshole had found out how to shut it down.
If you find something and theres no name and nothing on it, ok, if you keep that perhaps thats not exactly stealing. But if you shutdown a phone, because the owner is calling again and again, that is STEALING!

I was just wondering: one of the features of those tracking apps is the possibility of wiping your data if you lose your phone. Therefore, if wiping your data in this way (which I don't know if it corresponds to a factory reset or is just a 'soft wipe') means that it will be no longer possible to locate your phone?

I've had my G2 for almost a month now and the knock on/off always worked flawlessly. Then today it just stopped working, my knock off works but knock ON will not work, at ALL! I've restarted, turned the feature off/on, nothing is getting it to work again. Any ideas? What exactly triggers the knock on feature? Surely it can be the touch of the lcd if the screen is off...is it somehow the proximity sensor or gyro sensor? If I can figure out how it works maybe I can start there..Thanks for any help you can give me.

Well I havent installed anything new recently but maybe I'll take the opportunity to try one of the new CM/ASOP roms...Thanks for the reply
I'm having the same issue with knock on not working. i've wiped a few times and have flashed diferent roms but it wont turn the phone back on. i'm also having this strange issue where i cant pull the notification bar down.
EDIT: I figured it out. did you install TWRP Recovery? i did and mine was messed up. i flashed back to stock and re-rooted and everything works again. I'm not sure if TWRP is the reason since im on a t-mobile G2 but reflashing to stock definitely worked. also i think you have to do a reset after flashing rom because the changes wont take effect unless you do

Wow that's a relief, I'm having the same pull down issue too.. Even scrolling here is a dead spot on the screen if I'm scrolling a page or list as I get in that area it "slows". I thought my digitizer was going bad. I found my knock on works but I have to do it extremely slow... Tap... Pause 1-2...tap.
Edit yes to twrp.

well i re-rooted and it doesnt work anymore. i deleted stuff so i need to see if its something that is being removed that causes it to not work
I just flashed the stock rom back..shows unrooted again, and it is still doing the same thing. Im still under my 30 days, Im going to return it, hope for the Nexus 5 on verizon by the weekend and if not I guess buy a new G2.
mine still says rooted so i'm kinda screwed right now
Same issue
Same thing with my T Mo G2. Using Nova launcher. Knock on worked flawlessly since new, about 2 months, use Nova gesture for knock off. Suddenly knock on stopped working. Too bad, because I like the feature, got used to using it. Did a restore and wipe using TWRP, kept root access, but still no knock on. Next I'll try going back to stock ROM, but I'd rather go an easier route. Has anyone successfully restored knock on?
Hi i have a dead spot somewhere app in the screen and when i pull down the notification bar it doesnt goind down. Also i tryed to draw with quick memo and i can see that it is a dead spot somewhere near the top of the screen
Does anyone has the probleme and have you fixed it

No...first try this.
Open phone app and go to dialer
Dial 3845#*XXX# where XXX is your phone model i.e. 800/1/2/3.. You will come accross a menu.
Select settings
Select touchscreen firmware update...
Wait for couple of minutes...screen will become unresponsive...
when it responds reboot....
Go to settings gestures...ensure knock on is selected.
It should work then,
Let me know...Best of Luck....

I read the following posts on some other forum...so essentially its a hardware issue....try stock jb rom kdz, then factory reset and reboot. If this helps solve the problem you are lucky. If not, try getting your phone replaced with 802 model. That is practically most stable with a lot of devlopment and tons of ROMS stable and working.
I will still keep looking for a solution and let you know consulting a few senior xda devs I know... sorry man, it hurts to see a fellow indian in distress.....:crying:
Tons of lg users are experiencing this issue. Its a design flaw with a hardware component that easily breaks. Wonderful build quality -_-...right. So only option is replacing the phone. But to how soon, until the other one breaks. So its kinda like. Well. This blows. I suppose Ill install a custom kernel and enable screen wake features that way.

Good luck with that if the phone is a D800. I took my G2 to the local AT&T store just a couple of hours ago with the same "no knock on" bug. But the sales person (who had bad breath) told me that because there was another way to get the phone to function (the back button), they won't even look at it. The fact that the knock off/on feature was a MAJOR selling point when the phone was released is apparently irrelevant.
He has a ls980 so it might not be the same for him. He can ask for a replacement

This happened to me this week as well, unfortunately in Canada none of the carriers will replace my device for me, LG says its user damage and are gonna charge me 125 dollars to fix it. I'm gonna see what the local repair shop says and hopefully theyll just fix it for me. It seems like this is an increasingly common issue, it's a shame that LG don't recognize that we didn't damage our phones, they sold us defective units. I'm very unhappy with LG's customer service, we should raise awareness of this and hopefully LG will come up with a solution for us

Did you try the "Hidden Menu" "Touch firmware update" option? I had this issue and it got fixed with it.
try 3845#*modelnumber# eg: 3845#*800# change model number 800 with your phones model number, then tap on "Settings" and scroll down to "Update Touch Firmware"
I have a few more suggestions to make it work, let me know how it goes.
Has this happened to anyone elses G2? I am on verizon with 4.4.2 update and not rooted. He had complete control of her phone. Was writing me messages and kept opening pics of my 4 yr daughter. I diconnected the wifi and mobile data. He still had control of the phone. Then I factory reset it and he still was on it. Verizon is sending me a new phone and getting a new sims card. Is there a way from stoping this from happening?
I truly dont believe though that when you switched off network that someone can still connect. Anyways:
firstly, recap if the phone was ever left unattended, letting someone install something on it.
Dont do that, even if if it has a password on it, anyone not looking away when entering it on the street can see what the pincode/password is.
Apps not from play store, dont install. Ever.
Change all passwords on a safe medium (multiple antiviris vendors scanned) of wifi router, to anything, including recovery questions, make them different and non logical or affiliated to you.
Run virus scans on computer and or any medium that ever connected phone.
Then check apps/websites of mail and such for activity, likely activity at times you didnt use any of the services. Anyway facebook and such lets you close open sessions anywhere.
That should do the trick. And big tip dont get paranoid Just ponder how somehow got acces.
I find it hard to believe that someone could still control the device after a factory reset. Highly unlikely I would say.

1. I really doubt this happened.
2. After disconnecting wifi and mobile data, it would be impossible
3. Factory reset would definitely make it impossible
4. It's more likely that the touch screen is having phantom touches
I had issues with phantom touches on my Optimus G. Drove me batty. Some days it was impossible to use the phone, as the touches were all registering in the bottom half of the screen where the keyboard appears. So random letters would be inserted into words.
Turned out to be a driver issue with the custom kernels in some of the ROMs is using.
Factory reset and being more selective in the kernels I ran fixed the issue.
If it's still happening after a factory reset, then you have a defective touchscreen. Replace the phone under warranty.
Typos courtesy of my LG G2 (D803) running Mahdi-ROM.
I really have no reason to lie to you guys. The messages stopped after I disconnted the internet but the screen was still jumping around. That is why i figured he still had access.
I just received the new phone today. Should I go ahead and get a new sims card or I be ok with the old one?

its possible, if he were root and had something installed as system app.
also you can set stuff like tasker to autimaticaly turn network back on.
what did the messages say, cause if they were gybrisch then it seems like phantom touches.

I would, you could have the old encryption method on the sim card which would make it easier to root the card. But I am guessing what happened to your wife was something more like an AndroRAT exploit.
It could be possible seeing as all you need is a phone number to find your location by txt msg, and that can be done silently without you ever knowing.
Seems it's a built in part of the RADIO AT that providers can use, if you're on the inside and know how it works it'd be a doddle, but if the txt msgs were gibberish I'd go with the majority with faulty touchscreen/drivers and nothing to worry about
Bashing away at my HTC Desire C
Tell to the hacker to try to hack my phone instead, I don't care. I will shoot exclusively for him a pic of my arse as award if he manages to hack it and he can print it, or try to sell to the newspapers.
BTW, I'm not so anxious about apps not installed directly from Play Store. You can easily check or restrict the permissions of any app as root user. I never yet faced the problems.

Ok, so here goes:
I use my gear 2 together with my note 4 as a trusted device. You know like every time the gear 2 is close, the device must stay unlocked. But it does not stay unlocked and there is no Bluetooth disconnecting, anything like this. I looked at that. Battery is full, the gear 2 and phone stayed together and there was no setting like disable and enabling of Bluetooth at any stage.
I connect it now and its fine, but after a while (don't know the exact time here ), say after 3 hours of no use, i press the power button and it asks for my pin or fingerprint as if the gear 2 is not near. The gear 2 is still on and there was nothing like disconnecting. As if the phone on its own make sure that it asks the finger print every now and again.
For example, i leave it overnight the next morning first fingerprint then you can use the phone.I hate this. It kind of bugs me if they steal the phone and the range is to big, the device will lock any way. Why lock when he gear 2 it near the phone? Any help please.

Some people are just plain jerks, and I wish XDA would take these "grammar police" trolls a bit more seriously and penalize them.
Perhaps OP is using a translator, or is from another country, or is young. That should not matter to any of us and we should offer our help regardless of whether he/she includes proper punctuation or not. I'm sure the effort he/she put into typing it was much greater than that of the ridiculous responses some of you gave.

The Note 4 is problematic all around, but 6.0.1 is a problem for every device that has it. It is the reason I left my Nexus 6P, and my Nexus 6. I have a Xiaomi Mi Max, also on 6.0.1 and it has the same major flaws I experienced on all devices running 6.0.1. The problems I speak of are the WiFi and Data stop working briefly while browsing the web, or downloading something. However, I believe this is an issue related to the security patches related to Qualcomm devices on 6.0.1. It seems like an overall radio problem.
Just got the phone a few days ago, was super excited as I was tired of using my old 2013 Moto X w/a cracked screen after my iPhone 6 stopped recognizing any SIM card (no service). But I digress....
There was an Android Pie update which I downloaded since I've heard how people enjoyed the phone more with it, plus it was still fresh so I updated. Spent the past few days tweaking things here and there, downloading my usual apps. Excited to try Google Pay via NFC as I was used to Apple Pay (which seems to have more banks supporting it, my Cash App card and my credit union card both don't work on Google Pay but they do on Apple Pay).
Tried it at a Staples earlier with a back to school rush and lines down the entire wall of the store, and it wouldn't work! With the app open or not. Had to pull out my iPhone to finish the transaction (embarassing...).
Got home, tried it again on my Square NFC/chip reader, NOTHING. Read up on how the sensor is on the bottom of the device, no go. Go to Google Pay options, says "to use Google Pay, you need to turn on NFC. Click settings, NFC isn't listed in Connected devices, nor does anything but an NFC Services show up when I search "nf" in the settings app.
I'll be highly disappointed if I can't use Google Pay on this phone. I didn't get a chance to try on Android 8.1 as I updated to Pie pretty much immediately. Help please!?

To have to do all of this on a brand new phone (literally got this last saturday) that I already had frustrations with due to Amazon's shipping partner is even more frustrating. Not sure how to do a reinstall. Wonder if amazon or essential would send a replacement phone.
Then return it to Amazon for a replacement! You're within the return period and the longer warranty.

Good, but I think you should have done that first

True, wasn't sure if it was an issue specific to this copy of the phone or a setting I inadvertently changed. Should be getting a replacement tomorrow so hopefully there aren't any issues - I'll still upgrade to Android 9 Pie if it doesn't have it already. I'll update the thread if so.
Same issue
Fwiw, I'm on a pixel 2 and have the exact same issue after the Pie update. Trying to use a Daydream headset and get the same NFC issues (says it is not enabled, not listed in Connected Devices but running). Hope there's a fix in the pipeline.
