I'm having trouble installing twrr - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm following the directions in this link to install TWRP on my MXPE. I've unlocked the BL and have SuperSU on the SD Card, but I do everything exactly as the instructions read and I can't get TWRP to install. It actually says it is finished when it's done installing, but I can't get into recovery. I only get the little green android with the red ! in a triangle. Anyone have any suggestions?

After you flashed the twrp img via fastboot, you have to select Reboot to recovery, you can use the volume buttons for that.

Sorry it took me a minute to realize you meant for me to select recovery BEFORE I do the final command of fastboot reboot. I got it now and am installing SuperSU

Cannot Enter Recovery (CWM)

Hi,
I unlocked my bootloader today and I just flashed the latest CWM Recovery via Fastboot.
However, when I try to enter Android Recovery I get the Android with the white triangle and exclamation point.
I saw a similar thread but did not see a resolution. Do I need to flash the Gingerbread boot.img via Fastboot?
Also, I read you have to delete a file somewhere or else the default recovery restores itself every reboot? I did not delete any such file, and when I unlocked my bootloader, it obviously wiped my data.
Any ideas how I can get into recovery and flash me a dang ROM?

I followed these steps:
Flashing CWM Recovery via Fastboot -
1.Download the latest CWM recovery from Downloads section (recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-olympus.img)
2.Power off phone
3.Put phone into fastboot (Power + Vol Down Button)
4.Press Volume Up button to select Fastboot
5.Connect phone via USB cable
6.Open Command Prompt from your fastboot directory
7.Type fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-olympus.img
8.Type "fastboot reboot"
9.Your phone will reboot normally
Also, how screwed would I be if I don't backup my PDS? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138220
I got it. Loving CM7
Could you share how did you make it work?
Thanks

Installed OTA 4.2.2 and lost root, recovery shows "no command".

Hello,
I installed 4.2.2 OTA and now Apps keep flashing notifications across the bottom of the screen saying "requested SuperUser" so I went to go to recovery to reinstall apk, but my recovery mode now says "No Command" with an android guy and an exclamation. I tried root checker and it looks like I do not have root any more? What exactly do I need to do if it was already rooted?
Thanks all.

OTA`s break root. Reflash a custom recovery in fastboot if need be and flash the superSU.zip in CWM. That should solve it
Does that wipe my phone? I remember something I did originally wiped it.
I am also in the same position.
I lost my root.
How do I get root access again? I used wugfresh's toolkit, so everything was automated, but his toolkit isn't compatible with 4.2.2 yet...
Do I need to unlock the bootloader first? then install custom recovery?
Can someone link to instructions on how to do this? I am completely noob and don't know very much.
Thanks.

Find the download somewhere on here for "fastboot" and "adb", once you have it and all the files, download this .http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.2.3-mako.img Once downloaded put it in the same folder as the fastboot.exe and the adb.exe.
Then in that folder hold shift and right click and select "open command prompt here" and then copy and paste this.
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.2.3-mako.img
The type in "fastboot reboot" then you need to find and download the Clockworkmod superuser zip, plug your phone in usb and then upload it to the main directory of your phone. Turn the phone off and hold volume down and then power at the same time. Once that is up press volume down until you see "Recovery" and hit that, either with finger or I think you can press power to select it. Once there select "Install from zip", then look in the /0 folder I think to see the zip you uploaded, select it and install it. once done hit reboot, it should ask you a question. I just hit yes. rebooted, and now I have root back.

Got a quick question; which recovery did you use at the time of the OTA update?
don't flash any custom recovery or you won't get OTA
use superboot in DEVELOPING forum
it will fix everything

This incorrect. You will, get the OTA and it will be able to install successfully. You'll just have to take action on a few prompts.

If u dont want to flash custom recovery... u can use fastboot boot recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.2.3-mako.img...flash the zip and retain the stock recovery
same happened to eye. solution all. with prob. adb push superuser from Chainfire to /sdcard/ then flash your recovery then do not boot to android rather to recovery then flash the superuser.zip. reboot, root. if you boot to android OS you will lose your recovery and not have any recovery, just dead droid,... so sad to see droid dead... dont kill droid

Android N Update Failure: Stock Recovery Corrupted, OEM Unlock NOT Enabled

Signed up to Android N BETA, downloaded all okay. Rebooted and now into an eternal bootloop.
I can get into FASTBOOT mode okay, but when I select Recovery I get the Android passed out with a red exclamation mark on it's belly. "No command" is displayed.
As the phone is not unlocked I cannot flash a new recovery or new image.
I seem to be locked out of flashing a new recovery and new image. I tried to format cache and userdata but not allowed to as the phone is locked.
Is there a way to unlock the phone via command line? I don't believe there is, right?
How can I proceed? Any ideas?

Try this link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/help/help-unbricking-nexus-6p-t3382895. Here is a link to the actual zip file you will need posted by @matt1515 https://android.googleapis.com/pack.../53bd5f816ce0706903d1a69d50bca6cd4f52b800.zip
You should be able to download that file and adb sidle load it to get back to stock marshmallow. I would strongly suggest unlocking your bootloader when you get back up and running.
Good luck.

I am pretty sure your recovery isn't corrupt. That's how it should look. On the screen with dead android and exclamation mark, press volume up or down to fully boot into recovery. Your only way of resolving this is through recovery, which is already linked before.

That's the way stock recovery works. When the 'No command' screen appears, press and hold the power button, and tap the volume up button once. You will then be able to access stock recovery. In there, try wiping the cache partition.
See if this fixes it. If it doesn't, go back to the stock recovery and do a factory reset.
Be warned that a factory reset will erase everything on your device, including internal storage.

Issue with nmf26f 7.1.1 official and twrp.

Installed stock 7.1.1 (nmf26f) from google.
Flashed twrp 3.0.2.3
Booted into twrp
All working ok.
Boot into android and setup all goes well.
reboot into twrp and all I get is the "No Command" screen.
Ive used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69945075&postcount=952 for the boot.img and repeated the above but still "No Command" screen.
Also tried to modify build.prop but it doesn't stick on reboot.
anyone help ?
flash twrp again

It may be an encryption issue, but I'm really not sure. I'm still running DP2 because I'm on Verizon and iffy about flashing the new image. But I did have the same issue on the developer preview and modifying the boot image did work for me. It could be the boot.img you're using. They way I would get TWRP to stick was actually by flashing Supersu which I think modifies the boot.img. If you're interested in rooting, I'd try doing that and see if it sticks

Twrp will be overwritten at first boot. To maintain it, you have to flash SuperSu.

I'm seeing the same on a Pixel and Pixel XL. Re-fastbooting twrp will load TWRP. Re-flashing SuperSU doesn't help. On the next attempt to enter twrp, "No Command" reappears. At that point, I can hold the power button and tap volume up to bring up the factory recovery, but TWRP is gone.

Spoke too soon. Problem solved. I should have read the instructions more carefully. This is for a Pixel with the new partition layout, so it may not apply to the 6P. My 6P is still on MM so I can't comment.
The issue with the two Pixels:
Chainfire's post linked below describes the proper procedure. In short, you fastboot boot the twrp image, then you must flash the twrp.zip to get it to stick. After that, you reboot into recovery and flash SuperSU.
TWRP + SuperSU.ZIP
See Dees_Troy's post linked below for the links to download both the twrp img and zip files.
- reflash stock boot.img
- fastboot boot /path/to/twrp.img
- TWRP install twrp.zip
- reboot into recovery
- TWRP install supersu.zip
You will end up with both SuperSU and TWRP.

You're right. It doesn't apply to 6P. After flashing twrp, just install SuperSu zip and TWRP will remain.

Stuck on "Fastboot Mode" screen

I stupidly tried using franco's app to flash cleanKernel on my rooted phone on 9.0.11, it failed of course and now can't boot my phone. I'm able to fastboot boot twrp.img but I'm not sure what is needed next. I've downloaded the full 9.0.11 ota file thinking something in it (or all of it) needs to be flashed from twrp. Afraid to do anything at this point for fear of losing data. Any tips are appreciated.
I've downloaded mauronofrio's rom-stock-fastboot utility but see he says it will clear data. I'm assuming all the .bat files will do this. Any way to avoid clearing internal storage?

Any ideas on how to fix this boot issue? Is it just a matter of flashing something from the full ota 9.0.11 file---some img file or something?

Wouldn't you want to be using a twrp.img not .zip?
fastboot boot twrp.img
Boot twrp from the img and then flash the zip once twrp boots?
I was able to recover...thank god. Just used mauronofrio's flash utility. Removed the "-w" flag from the flash-all.bat file and all is good.

Hi, I have just got a OnePlus 6T and I am getting this same error even though I am using the twrp.img - when I run fastboot boot 'twrp.img' it sticks on the Fastboot Mode screen.
I have the .zip on the phone's internal storage along with Magisk ready to install but I can't get there.
I did manage to get into Recovery once in the last 3 hours but under Advanced the only 2 options I have are to reboot to fastloader of reboot to recovery which just takes me round in circles!
Have tried everything I can find/think of right now and am no further down the line
Any help guidance will be greatly recieved as nothing I can find on the threads here seem to help
Thanks

When I think about it, it seems that the twrp.img I am flashing is not taking. When I go into recovery I get to choose 1 of 3 languages, I choose English and then I just get the 2 options as above - thing is, the font, layout etc. make it look like stock recovery and nothing like TWRP I have used before, no TWRP logo etc. Nothing

Ok.. can you get into TWRP? Is so reflash the stock rom.. the once it has flashed do not reboot, go back to install and flash the lastest twrp .zip do not reboot, go back to install and flash/install magisk, once it installs then reboot to system... It will take a bit... Once it reboots check your Magisk manager you may need to reinstall it, reboot to TWRP and reflash it.. reboot to system band you should be good to go...
TWRP isn't there

Thanks and apologies if a two posts appear from me, I submitted one about 20 minutes ago and it isn't showing.
The issue is more than that, even when I try to flash the TWRP image it doesn't seem to take. The phone gets stuck on the 'Fastboot Mode' OnePlus flash screen and hangs there.
I have to hold the power and vol+ keys to get the device to restart and I then receive a message saying 'bootloader unlocked, data insecure etc.' and to press the power to stop the boot process. If I leave it the phone boots into OOS10.3.3.
If I press the power button I can get to recovery mode (albeit there is a password screen there which I have never seen on other devices I've had). I put my password in and choose English. I am then given the two options; reboot to fastboot or reboot to recovery. There is no advanced option to allow me to install TWRP or Magisk zips, as a matter of fact I don't get any TWRP at all, it looks like stock recovery.
Is the phone defaulting to stock recovery and not the TWRP image? That is what, in my very non-expert opinion seems to be happening. Is that possible and if so, any ideas how to fix?
I have completely flashed the phone so it is on stock OOS (10.3.3.) so can start afresh. It is a refurbed 'like new' so could that have anything to do with it?
Thanks for reading the long post - am wondering if there are some other tools I need use to change how it boots?

Ok.. are you using the latest TWRP? If you want in the guide section you can you the msmdow like ad tools to reset you phone to stock, and retry again..
THIS. I have the exact same issue. In short, I have the T-mobile version, and was able to unlock successfully. I am using twrp-3.2.3-0, and I have the img and zip in the same folder, same way Techibee does on Youtube. I then type "fastboot boot twrp-3.2.3-0-fajita.img", I get the "OKAY... OKAY... Booting... Finished" response in console. Then, the Fastboot screen appears and never leaves. I have done this 3 times now. I kept tweaking the process, but I'm nervous to keep debugging.
