what kind of phone should i switch to? - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey I've been out of the loop for awhile but my upgrade is coming up within the next few days and wanted to know what was a good phone to get with Verizon I wanna get something that's good with a lot of development support and having a sd card slot is a must. I love the galaxy but they're hard to root and unlock.

Something you can root easily with decent power.

Nexus phones have unlocked bootloader by default Samsung galaxy s7 is good too

Can you unlock the s7 bootloader though? And when does the newest nexus phone come out do you know?

The pixel phone line seems to have replaced nexus line
As for bootloader unlock on s7 I'm not sure try googling it

lol which one do you guys reccomend/like better?

I would say go with nexus 6p personally https://www.google.com/amp/www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/google-pixel-xl-vs-nexus-6p/amp

I may be mistaken, but don't all of the nexus phones lack an sdcard slot? Google are the ones who have been pushing to eliminate sdcard slots....
I, too, despair for when I need to shop for a new phone. I require an sdcard slot, a removable battery, and an unlockable bootloader. Do any current-production or announced phones meet those requirements?

If you want to flash custom roms leave big red

http://www.htc.com/us/go/buy-htc-10/ here is a phone I don't know if it has removable battery does have an SD card slot and an unlock able bootloader

Non removable battery's are removed with a special screwdriver set and a butter knife or guitar picks so it's not too hard just saying

I know. I end up swapping batteries once every day or two, depending on what I'm doing. There's never been a phone that lived up to the battery life hype. I'm not going to be unscrewing the case and prying the damn battery out on a routine basis, nor am I willing to accept the excrement of a company that thinks it's reasonable to treat its customers like children.

Someone push the s4 on me?

Hi I have the iPhone 5 with iOS 7.
I completely hate it.
I'm stuck between the s4 and the htc one.
played with both today the s4 seems kinda "plasticy" and the htc one reminds me of the iphone build and the htc one in black is hawt.
why should i buy the s4 over the htc one?
i plan to root / custom rom the s4 once an exploit is found.
thnx
If you drop the S4, it bounces. The One will dent and put pressure on the screen and buttons if dropped causing more possible damage. I suggest a case for either one. The S4 has a larger more vibrant screen. A 13 megapixel camera vs the Ones 4 mp camera. Yes they say ultra pixel but it just takes pics with bigger pixels. Its a load of crap if you ask me.

U shouldn't. Buy the one
Your gonna have a case on your phone so what does the material matter?

Same dilemma I had. Chose S4 easily tho because SD card support is high on my list of must-haves.
The need for this new device was due to frying the last phone and not being to access the built-in memory at all after. Altho nothing I cared for was lost since everything was on an SD card.

Why would you go from A Galaxy S4 to a Nexus 4? Loss of usb otg makes it seem like a downgrade to me.

Nexus has otg but it needs power for it. I have an external battery source so it wouldn't be an issue. I am absolutely bored of my s4. Nothing new is going on with it. Because of the locked bootloader it is an issue. I don't feel like I'm getting anything out of my s4. I'm done with branded phones. If my s4 doesn't sell now then ill just buy the n5 whenever it arrives in October.

This was what happened when I went from my Galaxy Nexus to S3, although it was an international version so it didn't have problem with locked boot loader. I think if you have gotten the international version there would be plenty of roms to play with.

There are roms to play with but I just don't feel that I am getting everything out of this phone that I could. I haven't even flashed a rom in weeks. I don't feel like I'm using a quad core because of lag. I played a few games and I lagged. I am just going to wait for the n5 and swap out.

Any electrical engineers around ?

Maybe since they are locking up there bootloaders so tight software wise maybe it can be bypassed physically like the rezound was s off ? Sorry don't know much on Jtag either

The Note 6 may be here at the time, but sure, we will win
I was going to look for after market parts, specifically the mother board which appears to be easily replaceable. Might be an expensive solution however less than a new phone. I finally decided to take it back and wait for the N3 DE.

Thinking but picking this up over note 3

Anyone have a vzw note 3 then pick up a g2?what did you think? How's the reception? I'm getting irritated with dropped data ect.
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
I came from a GS3 when they were running the free after instant rebate promo.
The G2 does have a more reliable signal, possibly a little stronger too.
I dont know if it is a big enough reason to switch...it could depend on your location, etc.
It is a fantastic phone though. I dont have the urge to crack flash either with all the UI customization possible witb stock.
Did they patch loki yet? I'm missing aosp and I meant to say I have a note 3. I have a nexus 7 just seems the note and 7 are too close in size. How's battery life?

If you are willing to trade a Note 3 for an LG G2, contact me.
Sent from my LG G2 using xda app-developers app
I did the opposite where I had the G2 and dumped it for a Note 3. If I'm being completely honest, I think the Note 3 is a better overall phone with more advantages. But of course it depends how you will use your phone.
I owned the G2 for a month, so I think I had a pretty decent sample size to give my opinion.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I honestly don't think they are even comparable, because of the size and the S Pen.
Sent from my LG G2 using xda app-developers app
It mostly depends on what you want to do with it. I have the original Note on ATT. I decided on the G2 over the N3 because of all the nonsense Samsung is getting into with not allowing us to flash and customize OUR devices. Since you are on Verizon, the vise is even tighter on you. Seems us GSM guys have it a little easier. Good luck with your decision.
Is this another Note 3 vs G2 comparison thread?
Aren't people getting tired of comparison threads getting locked?

I don't think you are up to date. The Verizon Note 3 has a bootloader exploit, custom recovery and custom roms already. In short, it's good to go.

I wouldn't call safe strap an bootloader exploit as much as a work around. Still no way to allow custom kernels

This, and the fact that it hasn't really helped in the past.
The real customer to Samsung is Verizon. Not us. We are just Verizon's users of which wealth is to be extracted from.

First rule of purchasing a phone: buy it for the features it has, not the ones it might someday get. Otherwise you will be disappointed.
You knew the bootloader was locked down tight when you bought the phone. There is no chance in hell it is going to get unlocked. Deal with it. If an unlocked bootloader is that important to you you should have bought a Nexus.

If only it had all the same feature. I like the nexus but do like samsung more for the little built in features.
