Since many users are updating their phones(finally) to 4.3 we need to find a way to root it..
For Unlocked Bootloaders you can flash advanced kernel and (wow!) you are rooted!
but what about Locked Bootloaders?

I think @DooMLoRD will find a way to root a phone with a locked bootloader!
We just have to wait for someone to release an exploit on this.
Be patient devs are working on it

well, since you don't know what a bootloader is, I am pretty sure you have a locked one..with an unlocked bootloader you can flash kernels and custom roms like cyanogenmod

Well my phone is not locked at any carrier, is unlocked that helps?
No it is not the same.... If your phone is band new then it will have a locked bootloader.
Unless you have done anything to it Sony phones come with it locked

Someone in the "release" thread said that he first unlocked the BL, flashed the advanced kernel, root, then relock the BL.
Edit: this here post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50255942
Edit2: this here method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50256189 ... but I think he had steps 1 & 2 in wrong order, because unlocking BL = deleting TA.

Why not try that method? It may work anyway as Sony tends to have the same vulnerability across devices with the same firmware

You are correct...... I was only making an assumption but having read doomlords updated thread it will lead to bricked device.
Sure there will be a fix soon for root and recovery on locked bootloader.
Niaboc is releasing his new ROM soon this will have root..... after that just need recovery.

It's almost stock and rooted with unlockable bootloader too
If someone makes stock in update.zip format, you can use full stock rom with root.
Where should I be looking to read about stable custom roms for my recently bootloader unlocked verizon gs5.
I need a little more education about flashing different firmware etc.
Thanks for the help.

Hello XDA. I bought a g900v a while back to use as my main phone and didn't know at the time that Verisucks locks bootloaders. I really want a stock Android ROM, whether it be LP or MM. I know MM roms can't be rooted on Locked Bootloaders, so preferably CM12. As far as I know for CID11 users we can't use any ROM's except for TouchWiz Based ROM's, which is very disappointing, but I just wanted to confirm this. I really want to get rid of TouchWiz since I'm in love with stock Android. Thanks for reading

Will this work for locked bootloaders? IE the Verizon S5 G900V?
Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Problem with locked bootloaders is you can't have root but you can install the rom
At least this is the consensus for mm ROMs on locked boot loader
There is no consensus yet for what happens on a lollipop custom ROM on locked bootloader
I can try it first if you like I'm really curious!

IT IS NOT GOING TO WORK. You are just bricking the device for nothing. You will get something like this:
Code:
SECURE CHECK FAIL: BOOT
DON'T TRY IT. You are wasting your time.
well for once lightning you are correct it didnt work its aosp i made the consensus so yeah.
But really the only time you hard brick is when you flash bootloaders or protected partitions on a bootloader locked device.
but boot, system, cache and recovery are not protected and can be flashed on even a bootloader locked device using flashfire.
and when you are bootloader unlocked you can flash every thing but bootloaders in flashfire so learn what you are talking about
and hard brick is very easily recoverable
I have a question about bootloader unlocking. I recently switched from custom rom to stock ROM but I am not getting any update after bootloader unlocking is this the reason of no updates please help

You will have to update system manually unless you used unofficial bootloader unlock method.
My question is,what custom ROM you talking about? Zenfone 3 has no custom ROM yet released, unless I'm wrong.

I am currently asking myself if it is smart to update my phone after the bootloader unlock and before flashing a customer rom. Will I get newer camera (etc.) firmware or will I just loose the bootloader unlock?

Updating after a bootloader unlock will keep the bootloader unlocked, No worries there. Just be sure to follow the exact steps for flashing the custom ROM

You mean not to use OTA updates after bootloader unlock, right? Will OTA relock the bootloader?

No, you can take OTA's after unlocking boot loader, it will not relock automatically.
