The exploit if found would probably apply to both pixel and the pixel xl

I'd like to start another bounty thread. This time, the pot o' money goes to whomever successfully roots AND disables write protection on 4.4.2 for the MotoX locked bootloader variants.

You guys don't need to worry about what carrier. Typically, if there is an exploit for Verizon, then the same exploit exists on AT&T and vice versa.

I think so--but you won't have Write Protection disabled; this makes root semi-pointless.

That is for unlocking the bootloader, this thread is for 4.4.2 root. Two different things.

Actually the bounty thread is still up, the OP just stopped updating the bounties. But if you plan on making a new thread you should update it with the original bounties as well to keep people honest.

So, I decided to make this for us the non devs to contribute to devs for their effort here. If you can give something out as a thank you, then, thank you.
Put the amount you pledge for a working TWRP and root for the TMobile LG G6. Bootloader is unlockable so it shouldn't take much time.

I have been using xda since I was a pup.. and I just got this g6. I am stunned visually by how nice the phone feels and how sharp it looks. Its performance is great and I really can see my self happy with it for 2 years! Of course...I really miss developing ROMs..plus once this phone is unlocked again I'll be keeping it forever as a backup device even after getting the next pixel which will be bought from Google this time lol

I'm rooting for you guys, no pun intended, but I wouldn't hold my breath. If you really want an unlocked Pixel, you should probably list your current phone for sale on Swappa or your local Craigslist, and buy a Google version or Verizon one that has already been unlocked.
It's getting close to the July update...another developer I'm talking to found some vulnerabilities that might lead into a Temp Root...I would turn off automatic updates for the moment as they might be patched...I'll keep you all updated if it leads to something or not

I bought mine from Verizon too, I bought a used moto z force for 140 then traded it in for 450 to get the XL 2 for 50% off. Root wasn't important enough to not take that deal. But I'll throw down $10 for root.

Makes sense...$450 is an attractive deal... And I just noticed Moto z force isn't an option for trade in at the Google store

The common stance on this with most programmers and hackers is that 'you should have bought the Unlockable one'
The most you will be able to do is hope for a massive defect and get Google to trade your device.

While I get the sentiment to have purchased the unlockable one, the black friday discount was just too good pass up. the play store wont ship out 2XL in panda for a few weeks. It sucks but I'm sure someone can figure it out. All devices on verizon lock bootloaders, theres not many now that use Oreo, but in a few weeks or months there will be greater push for unlocking.
I'm down for$50 if it happens

My speculation is that nobody wants to work on it because buyers had the choice of buying the unlocked bl.
depixel8 only worked for a very short time and was useless, once they released 7.1.1
If there was a prayer, it would only happen if You found a hacker that was interested in it.

I'm hoping other locked bootloader oreos push the demand.
The biggest problem here is, hackers and developers only buy unlocked versions. Many don't have a locked device to test on.

You all need to venture out in other forums that have had a bootloader unlock in the past year. That's where you may find someone who actually wants to help out.
This may require purchase of this device to send to the hacker.
I have been a member for quite some time and keep in touch with several members that are directly responsible for things like depixel8.
It seems that the days of unlocking bootloaders are slowly becoming a thing of the past.
Not saying you couldn't try to get another genius on it but, don't expect much.
The other reason that people don't want to unlock the bootloaders is because they get a ton of newbs in their shoulders asking stupid questions because they didn't read original posts with the instructions.
Check the TWRP or Magisk thread, people are just incapable of reading.
My suggestion is: Save your money till next October and buy unlocked. 10 months, $910.
They will probably offer a trade in as well.
Not quite sure what everyone wants with rooting anyway. Substratum can be used without root, everything else is just about there. There have been no new ROMs for this phone (doesn't really need one either) and, the Kernel is about the only thing you'd be left wanting to flash.
Adguard takes care of 99.9% of ads without root.
