Night mode 7.1 - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Why on Earth would Google remove ability for night mode apps to work? This is a major bummer. I'd revert back to 7.0 but I don't feel like having to wipe my phone. The bootloader unlock and android pay sucks as well. I used AP quite often.... But I'm in no rush to lose my data by relocking.

I'm having a different problem, I used the night mode enabler on 7.0, I disabled it and later joined the android beta program and got 7.1.1 beta and now it's reenabled and I have no way to turn it off...

Apparently nite mode, I forget what they're calling it now, is an exclusive feature on the pixel. This is where I get annoyed. I understand new features being exclusive, but this is something that worked, and was then taken away.

Where are you guys finding 7.1?!

I still think I have Night mode on 7.1
I don't have it on system tuner, but I still get night mode when I'm on darker conditions...
Anyone?

Just Got Update
I just received Beta Version N-MR1 (NPF10C). Settings-About Phone shows Android Version 7.1.1. Support is listed as another heading under Settings.
Came thru over OTA, install went smooth, phone loaded smooth. Used the fancy new reboot button once, stuck in a boot loop. Recovery will not load either, just boot looping the google logo. Oddly cannot turn phone off in bootloader, it shuts down then starts itself up again to reboot loop, sorta funny yet annoying to have to flash back to 7.0 some bad karma here.

It's specifically only for the Pixel at this point. You can flash the Assistant mod, wipe app data, and you should get Assistant.

I used the flash method in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/guide-how-to-enable-google-assistant-t3477879
I only flashed the build.prop zip, not the velvet one. Couldn't get Assistant to work when I flashed both.
Just took OTA 7.1 smooth. Camera is a little different but don't see a focus lock.

Yes I do. Everything seems to have rolled over fine. Update screen was not the bouncing thingies but simply the G logo. Haven't rebooted to see.. oh just a little of the dots, then a quick G and then it was up. Like maybe 10 seconds for a reboot. Wow.

I've asked around and consensus seems to be that it was NOT included in this update after all. Looks like they're saving it for the Pixel 2.

Nevermind, misread. It is only for notifications. You can make it turn on when you pick it up though. By turning on "lift to check phone"

I use the modded one for O here. You need to fastboot and load TWRP every time you use it because it is not flashable yet.

There are also 8.0.0 factory images as well (along with the usual older factory images) - they are all here: http://www.infinitiofsuitland.com/VehicleSearchResults?search=new
To play it safe, I grabbed one 7.1.2 and one 8.0.0 factory image for the Pixel to put through the wringer (since this would be the first Pixel I've ever put through the paces).

Enabling Camera 2 API with stock recovery like on Mi A1?

I was wondering if the procedure described in this guide can be used to enable camera 2 API on Redmi Note 4 without installing a custom recovery.
We can install Magisk without installing a custom recovery as shown in that guide so i was wondering if we can enable camera 2 API through adb shell as shown in the Mi A1 subforum. We could just install Magisk, enable the API through ADB shell and remove Magisk afterwards. There shouldn't be any problems with OTA updates with this procedure as long the API remains enabled after updates and doesn't get overwritten.
Of course we don't have to lock the bootloader again.
I tried and it worked, i installed Magisk and enabled Camera 2 API with this method and i can use Google Camera (the scrubber version with API 24).
I'm waiting for first OTA to see if the settings survive the update or get overwritten.

Yes he can be locked again, but you can leave it unlocked if you want since it doesn't create any problem with OTA updates.
Remember that this method is permanent only if you don't factory reset your phone.

I'm on a totally stock MIUI Global Beta 8.4.26.
I can't help you with GCam because i have only used the scrubber 24 version which is working fine for me because i have a Samsung sensor, as far as i know the fix for the pink tint needs flashing a file through TWRP recovery so i don't think it can be done with stock firmware.

I heard for other devices (Pixel 2) the UI (At least on the home screen) has been much more fluid with the updated Pixel launcher. I would agree with this on the Pixel XL too now...I have far less stutters using navigation gestures and swiping right to go to the Discover feed. Good update!
This is really random, but after updating anyone else having an issue with the screen turning off when a right to far left of the screen is performed? Noticed it when I was swiping a word from far right of the screen to far left, and it turns the screen off. Does the same thing outside of the app. Checked the Gestures settings and couldn't find anything relevant. (Wiped data on upgrade) Any suggestions are appreciated!

doubt it. you need the kernel too (boot.img). then you'd need to reflash twrp and magisk.
you also need new radio & bootloader img's.
what's so hard about re-rooting? you just have to flash twrp and magisk, right?

Pie update available as of today (18 Jan 2019)

Got the Pie update notice today along with January security patch. My question is for those who, like me, waited until the official notification to update.
With so many here experiencing problems with the previous update(s), it's hard to distinguish which threads are for it, custom, or for the latest Xiaomi update. Did you update to Pie in January? Are there any issues you've noticed with the update? Should I pull the trigger on the update or wait?
Any info is appreciated, as always.
Regards,
KB

I understand. I've not experienced many of the issues some have with the updates, though the battery issues a few updates ago were driving me crazy. Those seem to be resolved now and I can easily get 2 to 3 days out of a charge. The only reason I hesitated was I read some of the threads from the initial update Xiaomi put out, and was trying to be sure this one was less troublesome before allowing it. I saw a couple of folks complain about the loss of WiFi and Data on the first update, so perhaps all of the initial bugs haven't been squashed. I'm in Thailand, so need it to be as clean as possible.
Again, hope you get the issue resolved. Let us know if you do.
I am from Czech Republic and I can say I don't have any LTE issues, battery is great. No issues with Pie at all.

I have also lost my data connection since the update.
Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this problem?
EDIT : It seems that the update deleted the apn configuration. Re-entering it solved the issue.
Based on the positive responses I went ahead and did the update since my A1 is stock. So far so good with no issues I've noticed. Both data and wifi seem to be working properly.
Thanks for the responses!
After updating to pie many of the users including myself face an issue where the mic volume has reduced a lot. Other people can't hear me properly on normal voice calls

1. Unlocking bootloader wipes data
2. Does your phone contain nuclear weapon key? If no, then i don't see any reason you dont want a unlocked bootloader. (Manufacturer denying warranty for unlocked bootloader is thing of past, MI has no problem with it. Also you can lock phone just before giving it to MI store in any case)
3. As long as you install apps from playstore, i also dont see any problem with a rooted phone either.
