Chinese model restocking - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Just brought an A2017 128GB/4GB device off of AliExpress. But supposedly it will not do OTAs because they've modified something on there. Is I possible to just flash one of the stock image zips through the stock recovery to restock it so that OTAs will work once again?

Go to the Mega Mirror, go to Full Update Images, grab A2017-B11 (or any other A2017 image, not A2017G or A2017U!), rename to update.zip, put on microSD card, boot into stock recovery, select apply update from sdcard. (if it gives you a permissions error, boot back into the phone, enable developer options, enable OEM Unlocking. might need this enabled even if you aren't doing any unlocking)

You can just do a factory reset to get this working again, you will need to go to zte market to download google. Just do a search for google installer, install google play services, gmail, playstore and anything else you want. After installing the first 3 items, open Mi-Assisstant, go to autorun apps and make the 3 google apps mentioned autorun apps.
I reset device then went to play store. You will be able to log in BUT it may take up an hour before you can actually update & install apps. Going to gmail will ask you to update play services but you might have an issue in that first hour, be persistant and patient. It will eventually update and allow installation of apps and will go to gmail account...
If you don't want google on your device then don't bother.

Bah humbug. Got it finally, stupid me. The stock zips contain an update.zip inside the original zip. So had to unzip that and flash that. All working now, on B11. Got google play working by just downloading the play apk from apkmirror.
Thanks for the help.

I'm waiting for mine to arrive from aliexpress. This will be useful when i get it. Thanks.

Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk

Those are the Chinese only apps, so there's no other languages to be shown by them. The first one snatch lucky money can be disabled in the settings top menu. The second is SogouInput-ZTE, that can be disabled through apps manager. The last one is just the standard sd card first time notification that doesn't have the appropriate translation and can just be safely swiped away.

I'm finding my way round it. Though when i enter a new contact it has chinese writing next to it as well as english. And a few google playstore stopped working messages. But i like this more than the euro version. It's just not dependent on google all. So many choice of apps. Liking it

Hello guys, I'm planning to get this model from Aliexpress, 4gb ram, 128gb rom.
Now I'd like to know if I can use gravitybox with this Aosp version of the rom, and if it doesn't get any problems. The reason I need gravitybox is because of the 4g/3g switcher.
I currently own a Jiayu s3, and bored of that device. Really need this Axon 7 soon. I don't see any stable rom for this device yet. CM13 looks buggy with audio and GPS not working.

i guess i have the same problem as you. It is downloading, at least it says so in the system update menu, but i can't see progress. But i figured that might be caused because i rooted after the kitkat ota.
So is it possible to download the ota if someone posts it here and flash it via cwm without losing root?

The changelog is just the standard kitkat changelog. It is not a real changelog for this bug fix release.
I rebooted my mobile and I get google play update for gallery and motorola assist. In options still have old system version and in system updates still saying it is being downloaded.

Zenfone 2 Toolkit for Zenfone 2 Stock+OTA+Root+CWM bootstrap+SuperSu all-in-one!

Hi All!
Just out of boredom yesterday I put together a "Toolkit" for this bootloader unlock situation that seems to be extremely confusing throughout the interwebs.... I included the stock image 2.18.40.12 zip for the Z00A-WW (ML551) to start fresh with provided by ASUS themselves via their support site, the 2.19.40.18 OTA update provided by ASUS, the ZenFoneRootKit provided by user Shakalaca, the CWM bootstrapper provided by user 29y6145 and social-design-concepts, with SuperSU.zip, and Full instructions for every step along the way (Instructions.txt Provided by me) I also included drivers and one click adb installer to make things as smooth as possible for this process. Again, I'm not the creator of any of the programs provided in this toolkit, just the particular organizer who saw the need to make this process easier for others who want to get the most out of their phone and get more development capable devices ready for our eager hands to play with. I put a lot of particulars in the Instructions so be sure to read them verbatim and everything should work well.

Too large, since it contains everything from start to finish. about 1.2gb packed
Instead of one large file, why not split it using 256 MB rar files and upload them here?

Honor 7 Marshmallow Root image [B330]

I've updated my device to B330 (of course), but I need root too. I didn't see a way to do this at the moment, so I've done a few bits to make it happen.
The process for rooting your device is as follows:
- Download my patched boot image - DOWNLOAD (ROMraid)
- Extract the zip file
- Reboot to bootloader ('adb reboot bootloader' or power on with cable connected and volume down pressed)
- Use fastboot to flash the patched boot image ('fastboot flash boot boot.policypatched.b330.img')
- Reboot device and push latest SuperSU zip (must be >2.50) to /sdcard
- Reboot to bootloader and flash TWRP
- Reboot device and start recovery ('adb reboot recovery')
- Flash the SuperSU zip
- Reboot (flash stock recovery image back if desired)
- Hey presto, you'll be rooted! Any questions, feel free to ask.
I will build this to a full automated 'superboot' (auto root) in due course, but this should get everyone going.
Note that you should not apply future OTAs after rooting without rolling back first (maybe grab a boot and /system backup before flashing the above).
Enjoy!

It gets to 28% and then says it can't root. I'm on b330, what firmware are you on?
Update: Ok, so it works on the PC but not via the app.
Update2: Ok guys, I DO NOT recommend using kingroot via PC when on firmware 330 as after a restart I can only boot into rescue mode. I'm wondering if I needed an unlocked bootloader first :/ After many attempts I managed to reinstall my firmware via sd card.

No worries, it was sorted in the end. A full firmware installation from the dload folder on the SD card, wiping everything, was the only way after I had that boot problem.

New Update - 1498.71MB - What could it contain?

I'm happy with my S7 Edge other than some intermittent issues with WiFi so I don't plan to root (and I'm surprised there is a root method  (I don't get on XDA that often )) but I can't help but wonder what this 1.4GB update contains. I'm at work now but will do some digging up when I have free time to determine if I have something to do after work or if I'm just going to ignore and continue with my stock S7.

I don't have much installed and do have a 32GB SD card that is 5% utilized. The problem was Autoboy Dash Cam videos eating up all the internal storage, so that's cleared up but strange even, is the fact that PG1 is 555 MB from PF2 (See here). My S7E build is PF2 but the download is advertised as 1.4GB :silly:.
I wondering if anyone can shed some light here. I'm tempted to see what happens but either way but 1.4 when PG1 is advertised at 555 MB is just silly.
EDIT: Ok, I power cycled the phone after clearing space as I mentioned and the download size is advertised correctly now. (599.36MB)
Yeah that's crazy man. You should figure out if there's a way to save your dash cam vidoes to the SD instead

This is not for download only. After download file have to extracted somewhere and process installation files in cache. That why your phone need 1.4GB of free space to update your phone. After installation downloaded file and extracted files are deleted from temporary files and clear cache files from process.
I'm getting an error after downloading the update. It says "Install Interrupted" it downloads then reboots and looks like it's taking but then shows this error. It also pops up a message that says No Firmware. I was rooted but I'm back to stock and Official Status. Thanks
Hmm the update showing up on my phone is only 599.36mb. I'm on PF2.

Something has changed in system partition in order for the flash to fail. I recommend reflashing stock then trying to update.

It's probably only 600mb download but after you extract it to install it takes up additional space.

Still Android 6.0.1 and yes you need to be stock and unrooted unless you use Odin.

You have to give it a while to settle in. Stay on this update as long as you were on the other and then test.

can i join the One UI beta with my ATT S8?

I'm seeing know where that says no and the guidon XDA mentions the G950U with correct build number and says nothing specifically about x phone can't do it.
Can it? I see nothing around here about it.
Well I took the plunge and let mine update to U5CRL1then just used the update path on Firmware science to DRL7 now have One Ui. But letting you know once you update past U2 or S2 bootloader there is no going back and no root.

Last six characters starting with U or S then a number. The number tells you what bootloader version you have.

I was going to follow this guide
Sent from my PH-1 using Tapatalk
Yeah that was pulled from firmware science. Your already on the build you need to be on. Go to firmware science install the DRL7 zip move to sd card and flash from stock recovery
Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
Right here
Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
Heres the zip
https://firmware.science/download?url=48927/1488/SS-G950USQS5CRL1-to-U5DRL7-UP
Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
So just put the update on root of internal storage and apply from SD?
Sent from my PH-1 using Tapatalk
Download the zip.
Once downloaded, move it to sd card.
Move anything you want to save from internal storage as this will wipe your phone.
Once you have zip moved to sd card and anything you want saved, power off phone.
Boot to stock recovery (power/bixby/volume up
Scroll down to update from sd card.
Select it then locate the zip, once located click it phone will install the update. It will take awhile. If it boots back to recovery just do a system wipe and all will be fine.

Move it to your external sd card
Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
I don't have one in the phone. Just the internal
Sent from my PH-1 using Tapatalk
You can use adb
Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
---------- Post added at 06:46 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:41 AM ----------
If you don't know how to use adb read up on it. I have not used it for this method but I use it for other things, you don't have an sd card you can throw in device just to load the zip?
