Rollback to stock before root? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, I'm quite the scrub, but I'm ready to root my 6p, but I've recently installed the 7.1.1 developer preview(NPF10C) onto my phone. Just wondering if I should rollback to stock or can I root from this version?
Also, if anyone can send me a link to a straight forward and simple rooting guide, I'd appreciate it as well.

Everything that u need to root is on the first page. The guide refers to 7.0 but works the same for DP 7.1.1

Android System Update

Hi guys,
I just got notified that there is an update for January that is available to update.
I have followed the unlocking and rooting guide, and as such I'm worried that updating OTA will break my root.
How can I correctly update to the latest firmware without losing root?
Thanks!
Wondering the same, is just a security update, but with custom recovery i don't think it's going to work to follow the directions it gives you.
Same as me
If your rooted with system root and or have a custom recovery installed OTA will not work.
Easiest thing to do is to just fastboot the firmware.

What is the best method to do this? Will it erase all of my data?

Can I still root my phone following the stickied guide if I've already upgraded to N?

I've already opted into the beta program and OTA upgraded to 7.0. Can I still follow the guide below to safely root my phone?

Yes follow the guide.

Yes, just use a BETA SuperSU if you have some random issues.

Some Advice Please, Thank You for Your Time

Moto G4 XT1625 Running 6.0.1 I'm wanting to root and unlock bootloader
Question is; should I update to the OTA 7.0 from the notice I keep getting on my phone, then unlock Bootloader, root, and load TWRP, or should I just stay on marshmallow? And if someone could direct me to the most "up-to-date" Root and Recovery Guide, that would be great!

You should update to 7.0 and then root it. You will get nagged about the update if you stay on 6.01
The rooting process is fairly straight forward. After you unlock the bootloader, install twrp and make a backup. You can restore the backup if you have an issue with 7.0

I personally recommend Beanstalk 7.1 rom, if you decide to install a custom rom.

Unroot and install Nougat

Hey guys, not sure if my question is silly but I heard that this is the best place to get answers about this stuff.
I have P9 Lite rooted with android 6.0, EMUI 4.1.1 and VNS-L21. I want to update to Nougat and I don't know if this is possible while my device is rooted. I found some guides on how to install Nougat manually but not sure there are for rooted devices.
Thanks for your answer
You can follow these tutorial even if you are rooted, you will eventually lose root once on nougat.

Please correct me if I am wrong but I think this might be misleading for someone new. In order to get to a rooted Oreo, you will need to follow the dirty santa method, of getting a rooted phone with TWRP, and then you can use TWRP to flash the stock rooted firmware mentioned in the post above. (I could be completely wrong as I have not done any rooting yet on my VS995 yet but I have tried to follow the proper methods. I keep hoping developers will come up with a way to root oreo, without having to go backwards).
