The xOS Project - Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact General

I found another ROM that supports the SGP611 'scorpion_windy' plus a few other Sony devices. It's called xOS, currently Marshmallow 6.0.1, seemed to be in active development but may have moved on to Nougat.
This is their OnePlus X thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-x/development/6-0-1r46-xos-project-t3401868
This is their download page for the SGP611 'scorpion_windy' - https://basketbuild.com/devs/bangprovn/xOS/scorpion_windy
SuperSU is hidden when installed with TWRP but Cyanogenmod's root which is included in the ROM does work.
Everything worked for me expect for the magnetic proximity detector but that could be my fault. I'm going to wipe my tablet tomorrow to find out.

Thanks for the information.

How is it compared to latest MM official? Can you post some screeshots... Thanks

Going by it's thread on the OnePlus X forum, the speculation is that developer or possibly developers has moved on to Nougat. I'm trying out a different rom on my SGP611 at the moment but here's link to the oneplus x pix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67393091&postcount=2 On my tablet with this rom, Magnetic Cover Sleep/Wake was broken and sound sometimes requires a reboot.

An invitation to developers

This is an invitation to all developers, compilers and testers of Moto X (2014).
We know that probably our device will not receive officially Nougat update and this is really bad, assuming that our strong Snapdragon 801 can smoothly run without any problems.
My suggestion it's to all developers and compilers from any country work together to sync AOSP from Nougat, adapt device tree and bring up our first AOSP 7.0 rom.
I know that CyanogenMod is working on CM14 for victara... But the idea is bring up pure Android. I never see any pure AOSP rom for our device and would be awesome if we have this now. CM14 maybe will delay a bit and I think that all users here want to feel Nougat experience
Some rumours at internet had saying that Snapdragon 800/801 will not have drivers for Nougat... But I know that this is possible because Nexus 5 had Snap 800 and developers already bring an functional AOSP (link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/orig-development/wip-aosp-nougat-nexus-5-t3446875 ). Our developers can check device tree from Nexus 5... See their adaptions in device tree for working Nougat and try to do the same for our Moto X. Maybe disabling Vulkan API for now and we can use same drivers and device tree of Marshmallow!
That's all guys, thanks for reading and we are really expecting an AOSP Nougat for our Moto X before CM14!
The One Plus One (Snapdragon 801) has AOSP Nougat build. Among other devices. The Moto X (2014) is a smaller development community. I was not even expecting CM to build CM14 for this device (see below). It's going to take time
We haven't yet got a Snapshot build (stable release) of Cm13. Small steps.

I agree, we have small team of developers. And this one more objective of this post: attract more developers.
I think that Moto X doens't have too much developers because we had officially updates since Android 4.4... Numbers of people that goes to custom ROMs is really minimal, because the stock of Motorola doens't give reasons to search custom ROMs (like bloatwares or lags).
But now, we are going to road of needing custom ROMs. Now we have more reasons to search for these ROMs, because we'll probably not receive Nougat. Moto X2 XDA Forum go clog of peoples trying to got Nougat.
I hope for a "pure" aosp too, like the "fake rom" for Nexus 4.

Dan(Invisiblek) is working on CM14 for Victara. http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/q/project:CyanogenMod/android_device_motorola_victara+branch:cm-14.0
and our CM13 Nighly builds is very close to a Snapshot build NO BUGS for me xt1092 very stable as Snapshot build.
Yes it's true . I have been using the nightly builds of CM 13 for Victara and it runs really smoothly. I would encourage developers to work on the Nougat ROM for Victara. We will appreciate it. Thanks
I really hope to see Nougat in this phone, sadly I have no knowledge to help in development, but for sure I will test as it become usable material (its my daily phone, so would be nice that alarm at least works as expected)
We already has an bootable CM14 guys! here's link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68555035&postcount=100

LineageOS 14.1 for HTC One M9

Hello fellow M9 users,
As many of you may know, AOSP 7.1.1 based custom roms have started to pop up for our device. Many of these are based on the Lineage OS sources (formerly Cyanogenmod).
There appear to be some recent commits to the device specific git repositories for our device:
https://github.com/LineageOS/android_device_htc_hima-common
https://github.com/LineageOS/android_device_htc_himaul
One major issue that all the Nougat roms currently have is the lack of a working camera. I'm not a qualified dev, so I'm making this thread to both ask for progress and search for/organize volunteer efforts. I remember that we had a similar issue with CM13 (getting the camera to work proved to be difficult and took a while). I'm wondering what the difference is between this device and other devices (since it seems that pretty much every single other HTC device has had LOS14.1 with all working features for a while now). What is stopping us from doing the same? Do we need to create a petition/pester HTC to release source code?
If there are any devs left for this phone, please reply in this thread so fellow M9 users can be kept informed and potentially help you test (or help in any other way, depending on the posters' abilities).
The last commit was one month ago and nobody has replied here, seems like development has really halted... Any idea why this happened? What makes the m9 different from the 7, 8 or 10, all of which have active development?
Maybe because stock system is already superb with sense...

a solution
i installed lineage os....and the camera is working fine for me. The thing you need to do is to not update the camera app. As soon you update the app it starts crashing and wont open camera. It happened with me and then i uninstalled the update and guess what camera is working fine again. We will have to wait for this fix but for the time being we have to stick with the older version of camera app.
I have Lineage OS on my M9. If you install flash OpenGapps using the stock installation, you will get an updated google camera that will crash all the time. I flashed the nano installation from OpenGapps. The stock camera from Lineage OS works well. I think the stock version from OpenGapps automatically replaces stock Lineage apps if there is a google alternative. The nano version does not replace apps.

Is it worth switching from thea to potter and follow up questions

Hi, potter community,
I've been quite happy with my Moto G 2014 (LTE), however, the battery is slowly dying and 1GB of RAM and the old CPU is no longer a real pleasure. Furthermore, the maintainer has announced that he will no longer support the device and we'll thus most likely never see laos 15.1 (currently 14.1 is officially supported).
I've seen that @vache is building unofficial 14.1 and 15.1 laos (are there efforts to make them official?) and official TWRP support is present as well. Thus:
Is it worth switching to potter - it's currently ~ 240€ on Amazon Germany.
Follow up questions: is magisk working (To my knowledge potter is encrypted, right? Anything to be aware of with that and flashing magisk?)?
Is the xposed framework working on top (I'd stick with 14.1 untill there's an official release for 15)?
Thanks ahead!

I'm not sure how that relates to my question.
I was asking for official lineageos support which by no mean is a requirement for my decision.

Hi gothicVI - I see you have hundreds of Thanks from helping others on XDA, so please excuse jackass comments by those who don't. It also appears that you did examine the G5 Plus forums before asking your questions.
Yes, Magisk works very well (but not so much SuperSU which I don't use anymore) for both root and addons like Xposed/V4A/etc, the only issue being that on some ROMs a fix/patch is needed in order to pass SafetyNet. By now most ROMs don't need that anymore although the latest LOS 15.1 still does.
Another main issue has been with users going from stock Nougat to 8.1 custom ROMs and then deciding to go back to stock losing their IMEI settings and voLTE capability. You'll see threads about resolving that (backing up/restoring EFS partition, etc) but I think many still lost voLTE even after restoring their IMEI. Not using voLTE myself and not wanting to go back to stock Nougat, I suggest that you do more research on that if you think it could affect you. The hope was/is that this problem would be fixed by the promised official Oreo upgrade for G5 Plus, but now it's unclear if Lenovorola will ever release it.
In general though it's hard to beat the performance & value of G5 Plus which is still considered one of the very best mid-range devices even with the G6's soon coming out. I've been very satisfied with it and came from the supposedly better Moto X Pure/Style but I like the G5 Plus more with its excellent battery life and still very good performance for my needs. Definitely get the 64 GB model with 4 GB RAM though if possible.
There is still good Development support with many AOSP and LOS based ROMs which are mostly all 8.1 now, so if you're planning to root and use the latest custom ROMs with updated security patches & newest features, you should be happy with it, just be careful about reverting to stock Nougat if you ever want/need to do that.
Thank you @Dahenjo for your in depth answer. I assume you're not using xposed since caring about safety net
W.r.t. magisk: are there any special prerequisites? I never dealt with a encrypted data partition.
Pretty sure I'm gonna order this weekend.
Thanks again!

I came from a Titan ( sister device of Thea, just dual SIM instead of LTE) to Potter and for me it was worth every cent. As you said my battery was slowly dying too and the device was kind of slow with every rom.
Now I have SOT from about 7 hours, no need to carry my powerbank around, battery lasts way more than a day. And with 3gb it's running like hell compared to my good old Titan, you can open apps from recents hours later. I bought it just after christmas for 192€ and I think the price will fall again now as the Moto G6 series is out.
It is the first device with an encrypted data partition for me too and the steps when rooting are a bit different but there is a very good guide in here and you can always PM me if you run into problems.
Basically you have to decrypt the partition once in TWRP after you have unlocked your BL. After that you flash magisk as usual and magisk also prevents the device from overwriting the recovery.
I can recommend this device, yes Oreo is delayed but there are monthly security patches.
Sent from my Moto G5 Plus using XDA Labs
No, I'm not using Xposed anymore simply because many ROMs now include the tweaks I needed it for. Also magisk provides add-on modules for features in a similar way that Xposed did, including for Xposed itself which I believe does pass safetynet on Orea if done correctly, but I haven't tried it myself.
I see @Wolfcity just answered regarding encrypted /data, although I would add to be careful using some of the guides here which give very outdated links and you don't need certain files/things anymore that they say to do. Just flash latest official TWRP 3.2.1-0 after unlocking then go to recovery and immediately do a Format Data (not wipe, it's where you have to type in y-e-s to proceed after warning that all user data will be gone), then boot back into recovery/TWRP and install a custom ROM and magisk, gapps too if you want and all should be good.
I had a dual SIM G 2014 and right now I couldn't be happier with my current G5 Plus. I haven't rooted this one yet, but I am planning to do so when the phone is left out of its two year warranty. I needed to replace my phone since I was unable to execute Android Auto, Spotify and Google Maps navigation with my G 2014 at the same time. I was worried if these apps would still be unable to be executed by G5 Plus. From my 1 year experience, one thing is for sure: the G5 Plus performs nearly like a flagship.

You´re right, there are some outdated guides, this one is usable: https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/how-to/how-to-root-moto-g5-plus-t3579659/post74673573#post74673573
Just use magisk 16 instead of 15.3.
If you don´t want to flash a custom rom (potter stock is not that bad) you have to take care of the F2FS loopback bug which prevents magisk from installing modules.
You can flash a custom kernel or, as I did use this F2FS Loopback Bug Module. It moves magisk from data to cache and it´s a flash and forget solution.
Nope, not unless you wanna lose volte and IMEI among other things. Get a plus device or something. However, if you wait for Oreo, things might be different. If you do get one stay clear of Oreo custom ROMs for now.

The Osprey Oracle

The Osprey Oracle
It's been a while.
If you don't know me, I was active here a few years ago and created the FAQ thread.
I got out of the community for a while but I'm amazed at how strong the osprey development still is, so I plan to Frankenstein my model up to a 16GB/2GB and get back into it. So in that spirit, I want to go back to my RC roots and create a thread for everyone with the most up-to-date info to help keep this device alive.
I've called it the Osprey Oracle as it's more catchy than Moto G 2015 Oracle, but Merlin stuff will be here too.
My general philosophy in compiling this is to create a database of currently maintained or at least recent development, to enable users to find a ROM that is secure and supported. This means, more specifically, ROMs which are still being updated with the latest security patches; this is why you'll find some older versions such as Nougat in this list, because some very generous members are still compiling them with these patches. That means lots of things will be missing, however; if you disagree and would like a fuller, more historical database, let me know.

Good list but can you include the 14.1 stock images
I think under Nougat you should also include the link to the Stock 14.1 LinageOS + patches. Not everyone is concerned about Google and replacing them with microG.
Personally I've found sticking with Android 7.1 is best with this model of phone. Everything works out of the box, and it doesn't slow down.

Just added, didn't realise anybody was still building it with the latest patches. fyi MSe1969's microG build simply provides the option of using microG if you want, you still have the choice to then actually install the microG apps or just flash GApps as normal.
Interesting, I've been very happy on Android 10.0 but as I don't use GApps that's a significant resource reduction before any other apps are installed, of which I don't have many. Recently upgraded my Osprey to the 2GB RAM version as well, which helps.
It's great we have so many options though, all the way from 7.1 - 10! Which is what I hope this thread will show and help members with.
Is Lineage OS 17.1 official now? I can see it on the Lineage OS website.

Oh yeah it is! Thanks for reminding me, will update the list
Hey all, a chance for opinions if anyone has any before I go ahead:
In terms of Pie ROMs, LineageOS 16 (as well as the hardened micro G version) and Resurrection Remix 7 are no longer updated. The former is a few months old but the latter getting on for a year. So not terrible in terms of security updates compared to an OEM, but given that TheForce is still maintaining a crDroid Pie ROM would people be happy with me going ahead and removing LineageOS and Resurrectiong Remix from the list? Other option is to add a 'Pie' heading to the 'no longer updated' list I've added to the bottom? I want the main point to be that you can see secure and updated ROMs easily at the top but I understand people are interested in tinkering so might want them there for archival purposes.
That aside, just added FlokoRom, another one TheForce is maintaining, and MalluOS. Decent smattering of 5 up-to-date Android 10 ROMs for the Moto G3 now! Pretty amazing.

I think it would be nice to keep old roms listed, for historical reasons.
In my case, I'm still on resurrection remix 5.7.4 (MM 6.0.1) with squid kernel 23. It's running nicely, and I'm still reluctant to upgrade it because I'm afraid of losing some functionality (camera and viper4Android both are doing great in this Rom and kernel)
Thanks for maintaining this list. I'd like it to also include a list of kernels

Hmmm I'll think about kernels, main reason I hadn't is because there aren't any still maintained, and none for ROMs post Oreo afaik. Would go against the ethos of the list and I don't want to get into just making a massive archive, when you get the same effect searching "kernel" in the dev forums. Whereas with ROMs it can be tricky for new users to differentiate which are currently maintained, getting security updates etc.

Isn't smartpack kernel currently maintained? (by someone in the Brazilian osprey group in telegram. It's currently in version 12.1 iirc and it's for Oreo, Pie and Q)
I understand that mixing kernel list here may be a little excessive, specially when most of them are abandoned.. but then it took me some time to get to smartpack kernel, because in xda it appears as abandoned, but it's currently maintained.

I just bought a 16GB/2GB osprey with a smashed screen (so v cheap) and swapped the motherboard. I suppose rather than upgrading it, I replaced the phone itself and performed a screen repair... depends how you want to look at it aha. It's a very easy phone to take apart though, just be careful with your plectrum when you pry the screen off because if you do it too quickly you can end up with bright spots / dead pixels where you've accidentally pulled the exterior glass away from the LCD. A soldering iron makes a good pseudo-heat-gun if you don't have one of those to melt the screen glue.

Oh I didn't think about a mobo replacement, easier than a SoC replacement I was thinking hahaha
The G3 wasn't sold by carriers where I live so it would be pretty difficult to find a 2GB/16GB model. I guess I'll try ebay or similar.
Regarding the bright spots, for some reason mine has some even though it wasn't taken apart.
I'll try doing the same as you, wish me luck finding a donor device hahaha

Understandable , also about Project Sakura the maintainer (me) dropped it because the Gapps survival script wasn't working while dirty flashing , users would have to wipe system partition completely and then re-flash the Rom and Gapps package or the device would bootloop. To make sure nobody loses their data I chose to drop official support the last OTA wasn't pushed either. OTA updates might have worked but then i wouldn't be able to test the Rom first myself for errors (by dirty flashing).
Thank you.
Edit: I don't want you to include the link but just wanted to tell you why the development was dropped.

Looking to root Moto G7 - XT1962-6

Hi,
I'm looking to root G7:
Model - XT1962-6
Software - retin
Build - QPUS30.52-16-2-7-7
I simply want to get LineageOS with TWRP and Root. I have searched but have not found anything related to my model. I don't want to brick the device so if anyone can assist me by directing to the correct method, it will be a great help!
Thanks in advance
Hi dcybergeek,
Welcome. I have the exact same than that you do. I started here looking to do a twrp/magisk root like I did back with my Motp G5 Plus...was np prob find everyone did it. NOT SO for our plain G7. Being a novice, I gave up.
Now I drop to look and ask (beg) to see if anyone knows of magisk root...with or without using twrp if need be. The silence has been deafening...no yes or no or maybe...after nearly begging.
No pne could be bothered to give a simple reply...over n over as can be seen all over! And I thought was THE PLACE on to net for help, but no.
Luckily YES...Lineage 17.1 does work on our phone!! I'm about to just give up on on findi ANY FORM of a Magisk root, I guess.

Hi Zaxx32 , thanks for putting this up for me.
True that regarding the pixel 4a. I am thinking of moving on to that or even if I could get a better deal on the 3a.
I am still thinking to try out these guides. Worse scenario, dead phone and a chance to buy a new one
Update for someone else if looking for help/advice:
The LineageOS 17.1 nightlies works well. Managed to install Lineage OS 17.1 from XDA with TWRP. Next up will try Magisk and share the progress
I wish u the best of luck...unfortunately, you're gonna need it...esp if u have questions. When I asked just the BASIC question 'if river could successfully be magisk rooted via twrp now that a new version of twrp for river had been released?'...the silence was...still, deafening. Either there are still issues or it now works but those who know how have taken an oath os secrecy OR they just can't be bothered to help those of us stil 'learning android'...I dunno which! My point being...if it doesn't work...JUST SAY SO! lol

Thanks, could be the model is getting old. Hence the support is dying? But yea myself too didn't expect that from XDA.

Yes, that adds as a contributing factor. But I think it's still well-supported (at least for now).
Anyways, back to your original question. The first thing you need is to unlock the bootloader.
But before that:
1) Take a backup as everything will be erased during bootloader unlock.
2) Download and set up Android SDK platform-tools on your computer.
Omg...DJBhardwaj...do you know how to root the G7 via twrp + Magisk??

I have unlocked, twrp with magisk on Lineage already.
But tbh it cannot be used as a daily driver

Yes, it's quite easy if you know the right steps.

Have you tried other available ROMs?
What issues are you exactly facing with LOS 17.1? Are there any known bugs?

That's what I was thinking...and is why I got my unlock but just can't pull the trigger cuz I'm not 100% confident I have the order correct. Been searching even harder since the latest twrp releases but no two guides are the same!! ...and I can't risk bricking my phone. Is there anyway I could convince you to show me the correct order/steps? I'd be happy to compensate you for your time...

IMO, always be ready for a brick when dealing with such things for the first time. It's not like it's bound to happen, but it could. Especially with all the confusion because of all the different tutorials out there.
Rooting/TWRP/ROMs only deal with non-critical partitions, so even if it gets brick, you can easily recover.
LOL no, please. No need to compensate for anything. It's a public forum, and we all are here voluntarily.
Just hit me up on PM, Telegram, or Discord.
Gotcha. I only recently lost my 'root-cherry' to my G5+ which was a great first root but I didn't do my homework re: the' seamless' update system that google said would be a requirement moving forward..(then back-tracked on it in short order..). So my single slot learning experience was pretty straight forward...but reading all the posts on the G7 left my head spinning. I'll hit you tomorrow via PM if that's ok cuz I have to use the on-screen keyboard as I lack the dexterity to type/use a normal kb...1 clk per character is too damn slow for real-time chat...lmao Ttys...and thank you for sharing your brain-power! Gonna do my backups and transfer everything to the pc tonight. Thx again...

Sure. I will try and help as much as possible. It was confusing at first to me as well, but I managed to wrap my head around with enough reading (thanks to some awesome members of the community).
No doubt...I was 'mentored' thru my first root by Wolfcity. The kicker was I'd never used a smart phone til about 8 months b4. Always been a Windows Desktop PC guy n feature phone (burner) user. Leaned a lot...quickly..lol
Ttys...need some rest atm.

Bugs I am facing are hangs some random times. Plus K-9 does not seem to be working well. I delete mails but on desktop it still shows.

Have you tried shifting to a custom kernel? Are all users of LOS 17.1 facing sudden hangs?
As for K-9, I believe it's more related to syncing issues. It could be that the K-9 app is not able to run background sync.
Zaxx32 as stated above by both me and DJBhardwaj the very best rather than PM, offsite links would be to go through any XDA related thread.
I understand you are looking for root on stock and not lineage and or any other roms.
If it is to regain privacy I still recom you simply go lineage and or other rom.
And if you still want to root on stock, then there is a high chance it won't work based on the -6 model you own. The best I would suggest is disable unwanted apps if unable to delete. Keep google to the bare minimum (do not sync them all). Use unrooted adblockers, set permissions accordingly and set custom dns under network settings.

I cannot speak for them all, but yes I too suspect kernal issue as the lineage is supported for my -6 model but I suppose not to a full 100%. Other than this, I am not facing any hard errors just sometimes random freezes for 2-3 seconds but to me it is bearable.
