Some features which are removed from EMUI 4.0 - Honor 7 General

I can see that people were asking about the features missing in Honor 7 after M update. The following are the things which are removed in the EMUI Marshmallow update.
1. Some applications like Native browser and UC Browser are removed.
2. Voice search is removed as it is already integrated with Google Search.
3. Updater app is removed from tools folder, as the feature is provided in the Settings.
4. Screen Lock app is removed in tools, as soft lock feature is provided in navigation bar and Screen lock can be accessible from Google search also.
5. Battery setting shortcut widget is removed.
6. Multi user option in settings is removed.
7. 'Display data usage' option is removed from 'Traffic reminder settings'.
8. 'News and updates' option is removed from settings.
9. Due to security issue app sharing options are removed from home screen
10. Battery setting option "fast Charging" was removed. (Thanks to @non-toxic)

10. Battery setting option "fast loading" was removed
11. the step counter app was removed

I have added Fast Charging to the list.
But Step counter. Was it there previously? I haven't seen it.

So previously it was hidden to the users. Now they removed it. Am I right ?

1- Native browser has been deleted in B190 Lollipop update due to security issues.
3- Updater app still exists, just there is no app icon. You can already use it from Settings.
5- What do you mean Battery Setting shortcut? You can always add a shortcut from Phone Manager app's settings.
7- What is "Display Data Usage"?
10- It still exists, just you don't need to activate it anymore. It detects auto when you plugged 5A or 9A adapter.

MIUI notes/tips

I don't know about anyone else, but this is my first MIUI phone.
I thought it would be useful to start a thread regarding MIUI notes/tips/etc that are specific to MIUI.
The first big one of course - how to fix push notifications:
http://www.forbes.com/sites/bensin/...ions-on-xiaomis-miui-8-for-real/#11f834174e1b
I was about to start this very thread
I found a cool feature
You can select several photos for deleting by simply gliding your fingers over the photos
Another cool feature
You can orient that device do that it's upside
The top bezel-less becomes downwards.
The phone is also programmed to rotate it to the standard orientation during a phone call because of Mic location.
One thing I quite like is how specific WIFI connects can be disabled without having to remove them.
Our work WIFI blocks certain things, so it's nice to be able to disable it but not have
to totally remove it (and then reenter all the passwords when I re-enter it).

For each WIFI connection, there is a little > to the right of it.
If you touch that you go into another menu, and one option is 'auto connect on/off'.
Turning off autoconnect helps in situations where there are multiple WIFI signals, but you only want it autoconnecting to a specific one.

2 finger swipe on notifications displays their details (or what is called Peek)

Thanks for clarifying.
What if I'm in the range of two networks that I've saved the passwords for.
Which does the mi mix connect to when I enter range?
Looks like the last one I've connected to.

That's actually a primitive way of doing it.
Samsung did it better by letting you 'peek' one-handedly with a simple swipe down of the notification.
With mi mix, I have to use two hands. I can do it with one hand but it's tough.

And just found out, we can't "swipe away" the notifications from the lockscreen directly. Need to pull down the shade and clear from there. Would this not be considered a stupid decision?!

Perhaps there's a solution if you root/install Xposed & a module is available for lockscreen options.
I'm rooted, but, haven't used Xposed in ages, considering trying it again......
On Samsung devices,(non-root) Ad Blocking apps have a persistent notification on the lockscreen that cannot be swiped away,.The only remedy for this was to turn off the ad blocking.

I followed all the steps.
I understood that there are several instances of settings and installed apps.
I went through all of them but still could not disable or uninstall pre-loaded apps like Mi Credit, Mi Cloud and all those Mi nonsense apps.

Those are uninstallable I guess (as Mi earns from these apps and not selling the phone), few rubbish were uninstalled using this method.
I should be able to disable them though
Apparently not
Some more MIUI notes:
menu + volume down = screenshot
hardware test: dial *#*#6484#*#*
More phone info: dial *#*#4636#*#*
There is a toggle to disable the navigation buttons (double tap them to re-enable)
handy if you keep accidentally hitting them.
in 'buttons' can auto disable for any particular app (games)
In accessibility there is a magnification mode - triple tap to allow/disable zooming of screen. (EDIT: it's bugged - it isn't supposed to trigger during keyboard typing, but it does, effectively making it useless)
wake with volume buttons is in lockscreen menu, not "button"
There are some apps that just won't stay uninstalled. Anyone got idea how to remove them? PPTV for example

Needs to be rooted to remove system app

How can i remove this?

I was using AppLock and now i uninstalled it but i am still having this lock sign at recent apps, i don't need it how can i remove it.
What the lock sign (as indicated in the screenshot) does is to pin applications to prevent a specified application from closing. If you were to tap the icon sign on an application such as YouTube, you will notice that when you press the "Clear all" button or try to manually clear the application it will be unsuccessful. The lock sign has no relation to AppLock at all.

Actually I think you're right, I just checked one of my stock samsung devices.
Another feature Samsung removed, it certainly exists on my other non Samsung device.
Looks like it's an AOSP feature.

Yup, i don't recognize it as a "feature" as i don't think it has much functionality, since i never open more than 5 apps, it is much easier to just swipe those that i want to close and leave the one i want, than locking the app and clicking clear all.

Hello... You can go here:
Settings > battery > 3 dot menu: optimization > tap on "non optimized" and select "all apps"
You can scroll down, tap on Gmail and choose "don't optimize"
I don't have any problem with Gmail notification though I let doze do its job.
Have you tried wiping Gmail data and cache or wipe, uninstall and reinstall to see if it works? You could also try to just wipe the whole cache from recovery...
Good luck...

Yes sir done that 100 times but it won't detach from doze, this is a known issue in nexus series and that's why I wanted to disable it completely. I am using Greenify instead already and it's serving me well.

Hey sir!
If you wrote the step you used trying to fix the issue, I wouldn't have advised it in the first place...
Anyway... Have you tried a search on Google? I found a command that disable doze completly. At least people report notifications working after that. It seems to work on OnePlus and Huawei devices, so it must be worth to try. If you haven't already...
Open a command prompt and issue:
adb shell dumpsys deviceidle disable
Not sure it survives a reboot.
Good luck... :good:

Wow... Nice. No need to credit me for this. But thanks. As I said, i just found the command with this simple Google search:
"Complete disable doze Android" without quote.
Try to reboot and check if the notification work yet. Or Google the command and see people reports. Hopefully the output you got from the command prompt confirms doze is really off for good. :good:

Smart View not working anymore, did I accidentally disable a package?

Hi,
So a while ago my Smart View just stopped working. It was working fine in the beginning, but now when I press the Smart View button in dropdown menu, just nothing happens. It's always in a "faded" color - not uncolored like disabled options and not fully colored like enabled options. Just something in between.
I use package disabler to disable bloatware, but couldn't find anything TV-related in it that fixed it. There was com.samsung.android.app.withtv, which has a tv-and-smartphoney icon, but activating it again didn't help. No other hits for "smart", "view" or "tv" that I see related. Any idea what happened and how I could fix it, besides the obvious "restore to system settings" of course.

How do I UNHIDE an app????

I was having trouble with an app (Android Auto) so I disabled it, which I shouldn't have, because it hid the app on my screen. As a result, the app no longer functions with my car.
Can somebody please tell me how to UNHIDE the app? I have watched 20 YouTube videos on how to unhide apps, unfortunately, they all show things that I do not have on my version of Android 10.
Thank you!

Should be pretty simple and standard... I am assuming you are running stock A10 - if not, the names of the options in Settings may be a bit different, but the idea is still the same. Go to Settings -> Apps & notifications -> App Info. Above the app list there is a dropdown - make sure "ALL APPS" is selected, so both enabled and disabled apps are listed. You should see the Android Auto on the list below, marked as "Disabled". Tap on it - it will open the app details, then hit "Enable". That's all.

Thanks, but I did all of that! I see Android Auto on the list, but it is not marked as "Disabled." When I click on it, it appears as Enabled in the app details.
However, that's not the problem. The problem is that the app is hidden from my Home Screen. So, in order for me to access it, I have to go into the Settings, etc., etc.
Is there a way to UNHIDE the app so it appears on my Home Screen? Thanks.
PS: I am running stock Android 10.

This is now normal behavior for android auto, the app is hidden and will only show in your car when you connect to your car (as far as I know there is no way to use it on your phone like the older versions), even if you add a shortcut to homescreen it will only allow access to the settings screen (I assume).
If it's not working with your car, go to settings>apps>android auto>storage> and then clear storage to reset everything. While there check it has all permissions granted.
If you want to use AA on your phone maybe consider sideloading an old version (from a reputable store like F-Droid) which still worked from the handset.
