FoxFi not yet working on Android 7.0+ devices without root. I haven't paid much attention to if root has been achieved for the Verizon variant, also interested in finding out if our bl is locked.

Android L and FoxFi

Alright folks, as many of you know, Android L is finally here after a long wait.
As we all know, at this time, Xposed is not supported on Android L, so for those of us who need options for exploiting Tether/WiFi just in case a flashed app/mod doesn't work, I wanted to pose the question.
I know some of you out there have had, or used FoxFi, and for those of you who have Upgraded to Android L and need the Tether/WiFi service, have you used FoxFi post updating, and if so, how is it working out?
Thanks in advance.

FoxFi works fine on at least unrooted Lollipop, so I assume it'll work fine on rooted as well.

Thank you for that as well Sir. Couple final questions.
Did you run a speedtest while you had it? If so, what were the speeds you were getting?

I'm not sure what you mean by speedtest pertaining to which device, but on my S5 running FoxFi I got 30/15 and on my Nexus 7 connected through FoxFi I got 28/15.

I meant on the S5, being this is the sub-forum for the device in which I am asking the question.
I just noticed, the Play Store has FoxFi and PDANet now.. Which of them did you use?

FoxFi. Just so you know, when I turned off FoxFi and tried connecting to WiFi it would connect but nothing would load, then I'd try rebooting and it was stuck on boot until it said "system has stopped." To fix that I just wiped cache in recovery, but idk this might be a FoxFi thing.
Thank you.
FoxFi (Paid version) works fine after Lollipip OTA on Stock Unrooted VZW GS5.

Is this answer really supposed to help him. I have 2 questions
1. Will this build ever be able to be rooted ?
2. If so do I wait . Is it close to beta ?
For now all I know is you have to downgrade from lolipop 5.0 to kitkat 4 4.4 . I am unsure of any advantages besides aesthetics for doing so.
When answering my questions I would like to know any information possible
This answer will make a difference in what phone a guy purchases

That answer really is supposed to help him because it's the only answer there is right now. Now to answer your two questions:
1. I've always heard that you should never say never, but it is highly likely the OE1, OG5 and any later builds will never be rooted.
2. See #1
The OE1 and OG5 builds cannot be downgraded to kitkat, which is why they cannot be rooted right now. If someone is interested in rooting and running custom ROMs, Verizon phones are not the way to go right now with only a few exceptions (Nexus 6 being one of those exceptions.)

I don't think it can be done, but you should look through the titles of the threads in the general and Q&A sections to see if any of them deal specifically with the WiFi tether on the OE1 or OG5 builds.

I search . I hope your not talking to me French moulan
...sigh........No, ldeveraux, this is NOT a useless thread. In fact, according to my research, this thread may just contain the key for the entire non-Google Android privileged code development community. Here is why I think so.
ahmad83it wrote on 28th August 2015, 07:06 PM:
"...so , how to unlock the hotspot wifi..."
This is AN EXTREMELY IMPORTANT QUESTION. You all may be thinking that I'm the only one with this issue. NOT. Here's a perfect example of what I'm talking about:
http://developer.samsung.com/forum/board/thread/view.do?boardName=GeneralB&messageId=178834
This developer had to root his phone to test and debug privileged code. That was in 2012. But nowadays:
- We know that the publicly available retail editions of Verizon Samsung devices are protected with qfuse-enhanced, signed, locked bootloaders. Any attempt to change the core system code in these devices, even by a Google certified developer (which I am), will trip a qfuse and brick the device.
- We know that the publicly available developer editions of LTE-enabled Samsung devices have unlocked, unprotected bootloaders - but they also are NOT configured for any LTE carrier, so you cannot get online via an LTE protocol (3G, 4G) with these devices. Therefore, privileged code or not, one CANNOT write code that communicates online through LTE protocols that will work. This includes code that communicates with web services, CDNs, online databases, and cloud-based services.
Now...landshark68 wrote: "...I don't think [enabling WIFI connectivity] can be done, but you should look through the titles of the threads in the general and Q&A sections to see if any of them deal specifically with the WiFi tether on the OE1 or OG5 builds..."
This is a critical point. Given my information that I outlined above, based on my research, the ONLY way that a 3rd party developer - in other words, a developer that is not an employee of Verizon or Google - can test and debug privileged code and/or code that communicates with the internet, on a genuine Samsung device, is on a developer edition of the device WITH WIFI ENABLED.
I have emailed a member of the Samsung security team, explaining this issue. Hopefully, an answer will come from it.
No, John Bonifas. What ahmad is referring to is the wifi hotspot tether hack that allows you to use your phone as a wifi hotspot without Verizon realizing it. It is also the wifi hotspot tether hack that allows users who have maintained their unlimited data package to use the wifi hotspot tether, since Verizon does not allow them to use the wifi hotspot tether. Your device has to be rooted in order to use the wifi hotspot tether hack. Has nothing to do with a developer trying to test and debug code.

Yes, WiFi should be working no issue. If it doesn't work you may have a mismatch between your ROM and the Modem and NON-HLOS partitions. Try to re-flash the whole system without the bootloader and without the recovery, like this one I made for myself: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62346228&postcount=2
yes , I meant enabling the hotspot or tethering for wifi , I searched before posting this I haven't found anything useful so anybody have solution

Has anyone tried this mobilego root on S5 OG5 yet? It successfully rooted the latest Verizon S4 5.1 rom so it might work on the S5. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3254434

I tried it. Initial connection popped up some error messages in Windows, but I was then able to browse my apps files contacts etc from MobileGo. The "OneClickRoot" button, unfortunately, did not work. Threw an error and then my phone rebooted.

Root for Verizon?

I just got this phone (coming from an unlocked rooted VZW S5) and I'm pretty bummed out not seeing any root guides for this specific version (I know Verizon rooting is spotty). Can someone point me in the right direction?
Don't think this will happen, all of the devs basically have Pixels.
Nope. Root most likely will not happen.

What about using the Dirty Cow exploit? I've heard it can root almost any Android no sweat.
Has anyone tried Sunshine yet?
I've personally tried Dirty Cow, and I have yet to find a binary that doesnt break my device or not work. I have also tried SunShine, and it does not work.

Honestly, I wouldn't hold my breath with Nougat out... Only possibility to me right now would be hoping that Verizon released unlock codes to Moto like they did for previous X devices... But that won't happen for at least a year.

**EDIT** Does not work on Z force droid with Nougat.

Hmmm.... Might give that a try further down the line. I've also enabled the OEM unlocking setting and I've been wanting to tamper around with that for a bit but I don't know if you can actually unlock and be able to do anything with that because of Verizon.

From what I've read that toggle is only a 2ndary safety toggle. You still have to submit to Motorola to get an unlock code and Verizon has forbidden it.

Need a push in the right direction (rooting)

Its been a while since I have used this site or rooted anything. I have a Version LG V20 but im using it on T-Mobile. I need to root to get hotspot working (or like foxfi which i have but its not updated for wifi with V20 Yet)
Anyway, regardless of alternative solutions I think I just want to root the device, can anyone point me in the right direction as to where to get started?

T mobile has it's own root. DO not do the dirty santa root. You will brick the device. Check the dev section for t mobile root.

How did you get your Verizon v20 to work on T-Mobile? I can't get phone and data to work at the same time,When I do after a couple of minutes I lose all signal.Would love some info if available. I thought it wouldn't be a issue. My moto z and z force worked with no issue what so ever on T-Mobile.

Is your phone model VS995? Then you need Dirty Santa method.
Is your phone model h918? Then you need Dirty Cow.
The provider you are on doesn't matter. It is the phone model that matters.
