Stupid question sorry... - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

So I've had a 6p and may get a 7edge and it looks like there is nothing root or ROM rise for the sprint models... Do these have any updates?

That depends. The u model on sprint loses data when rooted. I think it works with other carriers, tho.

For that type of money you're willing to spend on a phone that's about to be a year old, why not buy a pixel from Google? Especially coming from a 6p, seems like that'll make more sense.

Ive been going back and forth about the pixel... In short My 6p broke and they're sending me a new one in 2 days... I don't want to open it I'm going to sell it so I needed a new phone now... The pixel isn't available, only at best buy and not the XL... plus it's the verizon edition which has a locked bootloader.
Edit: It was also 10 percent off, I had a 100 dollar gift card and will hoefully get 400 for the 6p with the extras I have with it.

Buying the EVO

So unless I'm mistaken, the hero came out less than a year ago, which means that anyone who bought a hero doesn't have their yearly upgrade yet. So my question is, how is everyone planning to buy the EVO without paying $500?
I'm fronting the cash. This means I'll be able to use my upgrade for the next sweet phone in another 6-8 months.
Others have multiple phones on family plans and are juggling the phones within their plan to get one.
i dont get upgdrades so im selling the hero for 300. i have a credit card for the rest

my parents are going to help me get mine. right now they are on t-mobile and they plan to come to sprint, open a new account get the upgrade price then i'm going to switch my mom out for my hero. me and my old man are planning on rocking the **** out of some evo's. he has the tp2 on t-mobile i'm bringing him to the dark side...
I have to wait until October ... very sad
I have five phones on my plan. I typically use one of my kids upgrades to get a new phone, then give them my old phone. Time to pass the Hero along.
$449 - $80 for hero trade in meaning $369 and no contract renewal

That's not true. I'm not really sure why, but I and my wife are both eligible for the full upgrade and we bought Heros on the early release day from best buy. I checked online and I called Sprint just to confirm and they assured me we both qualified.
i'll get mine free from friends.
i have 3 lines that get upgrades all at different times. still deciding wether to get the evo or not though. my main line is eligible for upgrade.
I have an everything data plan with six lines. Go figure.

Not to be rude but you will never get $300 for a hero even brand new. Maybe $200 if your lucky and i stress lucky. I got to play with an evo and im going to pass on it. Im already seeing alot of people complaining about the phone and slow downs after you install apps. Plus the fact there is a big issue with software & the shipped sd cards that come with the phone. Alot are talking about the possibility of sprint/htc releasing a fix for it but that could also mean they could patch root for those guys as well. So far they seem to have done a pretty solid job patching root on our hero's with the RUU.

Ive read some of your posts, you sure seem to have gone through alot of phones in less than a year. Must be nice to have money to burn on a phone that will be outdated in 4 months.
Im buying it from radioshack so hm my dad has his phone on the line and has not changed it since 2008 so ill use his DUH!!!
So yea....I've heard on here that the EVO (without contract) is 450-500.....when if fact it is going to sold for $549 without contract. Trying to keep my Hero, and buy the EVO outright.....but only so many things I can sell on ebay, lol.

Are you always this pessimistic? People have different situations, and different views on what's worth what. The Evo will become outdated just as EVERY other handset/PC/Laptop/Macbook/etc.... Your phone must be really outdated if you don't want to spend your money on anything that's not going to be top of the line half a year from its release. As for me, I've been through 4 phones in the last year, and will be getting an EVO. And when the next best thing comes out, I'll probably get that as well. Waste of money? Maybe, but you can't take it with you, and I've got it to spend.
I just came back to Sprint from T-Mobile today... going to dump the Hero I bought (this is my second Hero, and this one lags SOOO much it's hardly usable at all) within my 30-day window and grab the Evo which I ordered already.

just sold it today for $325.
believe me i had mine set up very well. no lag at all and the people wanted the roms on the sd card. their problem now

So looks like it's finally official. HTC One coming to Verizon later this summer.

Who is going to make the jump?
I have been on the Incredible for just over 3 years now and ready to make the jump. It has been a great ride but this seems like the perfect time and phone to make the switch.
Anyone else?
I should be getting One (see what I did there?). Hopefully they don't disable HTCdev, which is doubtful they won't based on past devices. That, or S-OFF tricks will still work. And hopefully they'll get a Google edition.
But there's still time for the next Nexus to be announced. So I'll end up getting one of the two.

This is what I have been waiting on... a friend is supposedly going to hand me (yep.. free) his GS3.. which of course I'll root and put AOSP on... then I will purchase the One (off contract of course.. they are going to pry that unlimited data from my cold dead hands) once I see that the Verizon version has been rooted.. unlocked.. and has some good roms going on.
At which point I'll pass the GS3 onto someone who needs it (who has already claimed it.. before I even have it!)
Yea I hope this new version for Verizon gets rooted soon but that still not going to have me hold out at launch. BTW I am in the same boat as you, buying off contract so I can keep unlimited data.
Do you know where I will be able to purchase (when the time comes) the phone from? Just use Amazon or Best Buy? They will sell the phone on it's own right?

You should be able to buy it from anyone outright. Though you won't really get a deal from anyone that way.. so may as well do it from Verizon directly.
HTC One shipping August 22nd. FINALLY.
Going to wait like a week make sure others can unlock and get it rooted and will probably be making the switch.

And Key Lime Pie (I know its a pipe dream to think it will be announced by end of Sept)...
Would love to know the optimal specs for it before investing in a phone. Especially one that is already 4-6 months old before Verizon even sold it.

Hi.

Should I buy the moto? Are you guys happy with it? Or should I get the giant nexus.

According to this post, 8 CUSTOM ROMs so far on Marshmallow (plus more if you include Lollipop) means no custom ROMs available for this phone...

Coming from a Verizon Note 5 I do not miss or regret switching to the Moto at all. The only thing that is better is the camera and that's not by much at all. Having a unlocked bootloader, root and some great custom ROMs to play with is well worth the switch. It runs sweet on stock Marshmallow too.
The note series are the best phones money can by specs wise I owed each one up till Note 4 but with the loss of the MicroSD on N5ote and inability to root (Verizon edition), I sold my Note 4 and moved to Moto X. As someone else had shared, the only thing I miss is the better camera quality.

Good choice, I've tried a bunch of phones this year and decided the Mxpe is the best overall phone available. That could change soon with the new phones coming but for the price and ability to unlock and customize with Roms and xposed mods it don't think it can be beat, even by the nexii.
Give us a reply after you spend some time with it. I'm running truepurex 2.6 ROM with xposed, gravity box, minminguard ad blocker, and YouTube adaway. GPS high accuracy, Google location history on and paired with pebble watch and get great performance and battery life.

As a matter of fact I did and just returned a V10 yesterday. The only better thing from my point of view is the removable battery and camera witch it isn't by much. I was going to purchase one through Verizon on their payment plan that would have cost about $10.00 a month but decided against it. I didn't want to be into Verizon for the payment plan plus no root, unlocked bootloader or Marshmallow really did it in for me. I know how Verizon and LG are slow with phone updates. Plus I really don't care for the 2nd screen. I know it can be turned off but I would lose the on screen notifications when the phone is idle. Other than that the V10 is a great phone and very well built. It definitely takes some great pictures but the Pure is up there too.

Do you think it's worth getting for 500? If I'm gonna get it (and return the pure) I'm gonna get the tmo version and root the hell out of it. No warranty though for the LG while my moto can be shattered 100 thousand times

$500.00 seems like a good price and being T-Mobile you can do whatever you want with it. Honestly if I could have a unlocked bootloader and root I would have kept it but I have to stick with Verizon because they treat me good. I did settle for a G4 for a bit over $200.00 to play with.

Thanks for the advice.
Thinking about it I think I will pass.
Snapdragon 808 does not really need 4gb or RAM.
And I don't really wabt to buy anything from eBay.
Plus I should save some money and wait for the next gen that is going to be out by the end if this year.

I just realized.
The Nexus 6p is the same price as LG v10. And I did. It get that one since I got the Moto for 375 on Amazon.
Damn you buyers remours. Damn you my sweet capitalist way of life.
But in general. I love the Moto. Much better then the note and much faster (believe it or not).
The display and camera are the best but Samsung (being Samsung) screwed the OS and user experience completely.
Hopefully I can make a quick buck on the note 5.

[Q] Just bought S7 Edge, still in my return period. Switch to 10 (VZW) for root?

I'm coming from an iPhone so I have no brand/device loyalty, but root/jailbreaking is high priority for me. It doesn't seem like the S7e has any advantages over the 10 besides screen (honestly not the biggest fan of the curved screen anyway). Should I make the switch?

Lol, iPhone 6 Plus here as well. And I can't wait to get rid of this overpriced junk. I can't do crap with IOS like what I can do on Android. #power10 it is.....beside I never fall for S7 or edge when it first release. I'm glad hTC waited.
I returned my s7e today and ordered the 10; I found that unless you have the hands of a giant, you will continually hit the edges and cause miss types/screen jumps. I also couldn't deal with the lack of ad blocker and the DPI was too big, even with the new native scaling. AND I thought the curved edges would be in addition to the screen, but they really occupied about 1/8" on either side.
I agree with everything you said, Rus. I ended up returning it and getting on that pre-order train too!! What whatt

Remember phones bought from Verizon store/online are IMEI blacklisted from using HTCdev. It will probably come with a ton of Verizon bloat. It is also not a guarantee to be able to get root. It could come in a week, or could take a year like the M9.or maybe never. A java card could also possibly work but not a 100% yet. Due your research, only way to guarantee root is by ordering from HTC's website. Just FYI.

Sadly no, only thing that will get you is the uh-oh protection. The unlocked version "might" work on Verizon but we wont know until someone try's it and sees if it has the CDMA radios. On paper with the posted specs it should but in my experience with verizon you may never know. They got the money to bully company like HTC to do what they want. take a read at this forum for more info.http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/help/unlocked-htc-10-verizon-t3357874

Yeah Verizon is the devil. Finally making the switch myself to ATT. I am done with the hoops you have to jump through to get access to the device you own. The Verizon version of the M9 gave quite a bit of trouble to get root but @jcase and the sunshine team finally did it so they may still have a trick up their sleave to get root on the Verizon 10 without using HTVdev to unlock the boot loader. Sadly the only way to 100% guarantee root with Verizon is a nexus. Don't give up home there are a lot of very talented devs on here but sadly its never a guarantee and can take time.
I just did my preorder through VZW. I know the risks as far as maybe not being able to unlock/root., but I just paid off my LG v10 for this because I know HTC, and I will get something going. I hope the great developers from the M8 series are here .
I may be a bit too excited for thursday to get here....

Bootloader Unlock Questions

What is the word on unlocking our Bootloaders?
I've been watching this topic for quite some time and I can't find anything new or updated on the subject.
It's almost like everyone gave up on trying because it seems impossible.
The bootloader for our device is locked down, it will 99% never be unlocked. We don't even have stable root all we have is crappy eng boot root. There is no development for this phone at all, unless you have the international version. Best advice I can give you sell this terrible device and either buy the international version or a whole new phone all together that isn't carrier branded as they all lock down their bootloaders. I'm jumping ship also, only got this phone because it was free.

I was gonna buy this one for 325 but I saw this other one that was in just mint condition not even a scratch on it for 400, thought about it for a bit but I bought it and now I'm just excited af. Was kind of a birthday present to myself since mine is on the 17th lmfao.
