just got given a s4..i9505..so totally stock always has been, i tryed following all guides to install TWRP. odin tells me all has gone well, but when i try to boot in recovery, its still stock, tried different versions of odin and twrp, but nothing works, any suggestions
sorry, ive sorted it, i needed to enter recovery straight after reboot, which i wasnt doing
You're certain you have an I9505? Enter bootloader mode and make sure, because from the sounds of it you have a locked bootloader, which will prevent the recovery from being installed.

Hi all,
I am not sure whether this the right forum to post my query. It's been a year a since I bought my S4 (i9500) so O thought of rooting and installing recovery on my phone. I was on stock 4.4.2 and I was able to root my phone using the CF-AUTOROOT, but after that when i am trying to flash a custom recovery using Odin it ends up in the download mode. I have disabled knox after rooting the phone and my phone status is now custom and so I cannot get any official update. Is there anything I did wrong which is forcing the download mode to overwrite the custom recovery I am tryjng to install???? Any help is highly appreciated.
Thank you,
Bobby Thomas.
Just boot into download mode. Uncheck auto-reboot in Odin and flash the recovery. That's it.
Thanks Lenny for your prompt reply, actually I did try that but after the manual boot it again goes back to the download mode instead of recovery mode....I even tried to install it through ADB shell but with no luck...I just goes to the download mode whatever I tried to do...
I was having a problem with the system trying to enforce the stock recovery every time I flashed TWRP through Odin. Turns out I got it by simply removing the battery as soon as Odin finished the job and restarted my phone. Waited for a few seconds, put battery back on and voila.
It worked for me. Do it at your own risk.
I also had the same trouble and had to untick auto-reboot, take out battery reboot back into download mode flash again. The first time I tried that it didnt work and the only way I got it to work was you Cyanogens windows installer, then went into recovery and flash the rom of choice.
What happens when you boot your phone, download terminal emulator from the market (or use adb) and type the following:
su
reboot recovery
Hi, I have a GS4 (SCH-I545) and I was trying to get CWM recovery, so I used ROM Manager to flash it, and it only gave me the stock recovery, so I then tried Flashify, flashed CWM then I got Odin mode instead of a recovery mode, it said unable to boot in the top left, so I just tried to boot up recovery mode, still got Odin mode, and I couldn't boot my device unless I used the download mode method (Vol down + home + power to get to the warning screen, vol down to restart phone) so I guess I have no way to get to recovery mode, what do I do? Also I apologize for this huge run-on sentence.
You dump CWM, as it is outdated, and try TWRP.
You can either flash it with Odin (Instructions are on their site) or you can use flashify to flash the twrp.img.
Untick auto-reboot in Odin if you are using this method.
Is the sch-i545 from Verizon? I think it has a bootloader that may be locked, depending on the bootloader version on the phone.
Yes, it is a Verizon phone.
Now, considering the circumstances, try unlocking or patching the bootloader.
Bootloader unlock apps and methods may have no effect or brick the phone.

greetings people,
a few days ago my friend brought me a phone for me to flash a custom rom onto it. I can't REGRET anything more then accepting this phone.
I rooted the phone on stock android 4.4.4 with Kingroot and after that, **** went down real bad.
I realised I couldn't acces recovery NOR download modus anymore, i try'd to boot into download/recovery with the hardware button way, but I also try'd to boot with adb reboot download / recovery
neither of those options worked, the phone either normally booted up or it kept trying to reboot with a black screen.
after I rooted it the boot image u get like " Samsung XXX "" were also gone.
after ALOT of searching and stuff and attempting things ive found a really old thread that stated to use fastboot reboot bootloader. I were really amazed that that worked but instead of booting up to the regular download modus it booted into fastboot, I read somewhere someone had the similair issue like me and they told him his boot img were corrupted. so ive headed to sammobile and downloaded the stock firmware for the device, I extracted the packages since I couldn't use odin because I am/was not able to acces download modus, while in fastboot i flashed the single boot.img with the command "Fastboot flash boot boot.img" it succeeded but after it succeeded I tried to boot it up but it fails booting to OS,recovery and download. it keeps attemping to reboot, I am CLUELESS at this point. I am able to try some things when I can enter that fastboot mode I had before but I can't acces the phone with ADB since it just keeps rebooting and stays inresponsible
I am planning to buy a USB JIGG, i use to have one but I can't find it anywhere.
any idea's/information would be soo helpful..
thanx in advance

Hi There, I just came across your thread, because I'm in the same position you are, fortunately though, I've managed to root this phone without any problems, however it seem though that there is no custom ROM available for this device, at least nothing past KK, and that one I found didn't seem so stable, I tried to flash it and came back with an error!! So my friend won't be able to bring his phone out of the Dark Ages!! at least it's Rooted! and now he may be able to use some apps that do require root, It's the best I can do at this point. I used the link below to root sucessfully:
https://www.google.com/url?q=http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/root-galaxy-grand-neo-plus-gt-i9060i-ds-t3070302&sa=U&ved=0ahUKEwjds_Tn-sDOAhVG1B4KHe8xDC0QFggEMAA&client=internal-uds-cse&usg=AFQjCNFDnwTNwiFG6H8TI_hKXAeeWEOlRw
I realize it's kinda late but luck to you my friend:fingers-crossed:
By the way, This one is the Dual Sim Version, don't know if that will make a difference?!
As the title says, I tried to install TWRP onto my Galaxy S5 via the app. It said that everything was successful but when I try to boot into recovery, I get stuck on a loop that says recover failed with a big caution icon saying start up failed. I can get out of the loop by using Odin and trying to install the recovery through that but it fails but I can at least turn my phone on and use it. I would like to get TWRP on my phone still but every outlet I have tried does seem to work. I could use some help here. My phone is rooted with a custom stock rom.

You might be able , check this out : http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...t/rd-unlocking-galaxys-s5-bootloader-t3337909
I have flashed twrp 3.2.1 via odin 3.12.3, but why I didn't see twrp interface when I boot into recovery? It says something like this:
Android Recovery
MMB29M.G900FXXU1CRA2
samsung/kltexx/klte
6.0.1/MMB29M/G900FXXU1CRA2
user/release-keys
Use volume up/down and power
Reboot system now
Reboot to bootloader
Apply update from ADB
Apply update from SD card
....
...
Power off
Based on what i have seen on youtube, it's not the twrp interface? It's G900F, un-rooted, not sure other status.

ok, after rooting, and re flash twrp, it now boots into twrp.
Hi everybody. I need a little help here. I bought used LG G6 to practice installing custom roms. So I unlock bootloader and now I trying to install TWRP (at this moment without root beacuse obviously with my luck on my phone doesnt work any program like kingo ROOT or something like this) and when flashing recovery with ADB is done I unplugg smartphone and enter to menu with wipe all data because in every corner in internet I was people say when I choose ..Yes" twice then TWRP would launch. Not this time. And whats strange that when I boot smartphone normally then all the data is still on it. Power key+volume down doesnt do anything, volume up too. I dont know what to do next.
My answer may be too late but it sounds like the recovery you flashed is broken in some way.
When I installed my custom recovery I had to enter into recovery IMMEDIATELY after flashing the recovery image from terminal, in fastboot mode. Upon entering the recovery I had to install a .zip file named "no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip". This is the .zip that prevents the recovery partition to be reflashed by the phone's OS back to stock. This "back to stock" flashing is done by the OS at boot time. If you fail to boot into recovery and let the phone boot up before installing the .zip, you may have the experiences you just described. I'll search for the thread I followed.
Edit: Here is a thread I found useful:
Wich twrp actually work on h870?
Hello. I've been trying to get twrp(official) working on h870 for some time. The only version that at least boots up is 3.1.1.0 I know that in order to make it "stick" I have to flash magisk or custom rom. However I don't want to do that prior to...

And here is the one I *probably* followed:

Sadly I can't say 100% sure if it was the thread I followed back in the day.
