Can I remove the Facebook app without root? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

I flashed the 935U firmware after getting my VZW S7 Egde, but the Facebook app is still baked into the unlocked version. I did not root. Is it possible to remove the Facebook app entirely, or only to disable it? If I can only disable it does this have the same affect as removing it would? Other than completely removing the files for the app. I'm thinking in terms of running processes and battery life.
Thanks!

Yeah I would disable it.

Not sure what you mean by "still" baked in. The Edge S7 I picked up 2 days ago doesn't have FB installed on it, nor is it shown as "disabled" in Package Disabler. When I check the Play Store, it shows up as any not-yet-installed app would, with the text "Free" on the install button.
I'm not saying it's not baked into the 935U firmware, but it sounds like you're saying it was baked into the stock VZW firmware. I can't find any evidence of that, though.

Oh interesting. Yeah, I just kinda figured it would be in the VZM firmware too. I immediately installed 935U when I got the phone and it is definitely baked into that firmware.

disable AT&T apps?

i google'd this but can't find anything on it and was wondering if the s3 is the first phone that allows users to disable at&t services without root. this is my first android device so i wouldn't know if that's true...
anyway, i have hotspots, navigator, messages, and updater. Carat is saying updater uses a lot of my battery, but that is the only one i can't disable in the application management menu in settings. however, i assume if i disable the other 3 then updater will have nothing to update and will consume less battery (hopefully).
has anyone tried to disable these programs with success, i.e. without it causing problems to your phone?
im not sure. but i did try to uninstall one and then it just showed up that it needed a update so i ended up redownloading the app because im so OCD about having updates not done

You go into the application manager and DISABLE the app. I have gotten rid of ALL the ATT bloatware this way. Works sort of like
Titanium Backup but you do not need the root. Great option.
CC
This is actually one of the 'features' of ICS (being able to disable apps w/o needing root). It basically very similar to "freezing" apps in TiBackup if you have root. It's generally much safer than outright deleting an app since if you do find you need it you can always re-enable it.
Make sure you have "auto update" unchecked in Google play first. Go to manage apps in settings and then go to "all".
Disable the ones that you don't need which is prolly a lot. You can also hide them if you want. While in your app drawer hit the menu button and choose hide apps.

Pre-installed Facebook App on Note 4

After disabling the built in Facebook application using the Application Manager, I noticed it somehow automatically updated itself and no longer appeared in the Disabled apps list. It's crazy enough I have deal with unwanted pre-loaded applications I won't use but having something on my device that's re-enabling a specific application I disabled and automatically updating it is unacceptable to me. I'd like for someone who also owns this device to try the same thing and letting me know your observation.
Yeah, it's re-enabled itself twice on me already. At this point, since I've not yet rooted my phone, I unfortunately am letting it remain installed & updating, even though I have no facebook account (anymore)
You have to disable the face book messenger too or it still has its hooks in your phone. I disabled it on day 1 and no problems at all for me

Get root access, first of all.
Get Root Explorer.
Navigate to root > system > app > find Facebook and delete it.

Ok so it happened to me when I connected to WiFi so I turned off the automatic updates in play store settings and it shouldn't happen again.

I also had that disabled within the Play Store but a new Software Update was just released that states it improves performance and has some bug fixes so I'll try disabling it again after applying this update.
Even if you disable an app, it will ask you to update it. If you update it, it will activate again. Make sure to disable auto-updating and when updating apps, just dont update that one.
Why is facebook even forcefully on our phone...not only do we have to deal with manufacturer bloat, carrier bloat, now facebook bloat?!?!?!

I wasn't going to root to test out how KNOX due to using my phone for work but FB pissed me off with always updating even though i disabled it and i finally said "F That" and rooted.
All preinstalled apps can do this.
It's because the play-store app has to be restarted once to get the application off from the updates list.
The pending update will raise the application even if it was disabled.
I had this happen with play magazines and movies. They kept coming back and there always was an update for them as i kept reverting them to
original state while disabling them.
So kill play store from the task manager after disabling an app. This has nothing to do with facebook.

Facebook auto,updates
This same thing happens to me. I have an AT&T version of Galaxy Note Edge. No root exists for this miserable $1,000 piece of crap phone.
My play settings are set to NOT auto update.
Facebook comes as a system app on this phone.
Can't root it, so can't get rid of it. Constantly auto updates, disabling the Facebook chat enabler, which doesn't require the separate messenger app. The chat enabler doesn't work with newer versions, so every day I have to go to the app manager and Uninstall updates to FB. Doesn't prompt for updates, just does it. Can't revert back to Kit-Kat on the phone because it bricks the phone.

Don't have one so I can't confirm but a few people have said there is not much bloat on there. Most apps can be disabled in the Application Info, which is what I did on my Moto X 2013.
Sort of. 98% if the bloatware from Motorola, Verizon, etc. can be disabled under app settings.
you can freeze em and lock em, and they will not appear in the launcher but you can't delete em.
I disabled about 7 apps

Once Lollipop is out, the bloatware will no longer be installed as a system application, you will be able to remove it just like any other application.

LG V20 T-Mobile Bloatware Removal

Anyone else having issues disabling the pre-installed T-Mobile apps? The disable button is greyed out when I go into "app manager" then when I connect to the DeBloatware program it tells me my device is Blocked. No applications actually show up on the app list either in DeBloatware (besides one - T-mobile auto start program). I unlocked my bootloader thinking it may help but it did nothing for this venture. Coming from the N6P I'm really not liking the fact that I just paid as much as I did for a phone that has T-mobile all over it... Even the start up screen pisses me off.

You went into the "app manager" to do so correct? I don't get why it's greyed out for me... I have never had the problems I'm having with this phone on any other Android device when it comes to disabling or uninstalling carrier apps...
This is what I'm seeing when I go into app info for the bloatware...

Even though the process might be different from different launchers wouldn't the result be the same? I'm using the Google Now launcher & would think that it would allow me to disable the T-mobile app regardless of launcher app... or am I completely wrong?
If you can't disable the app, kill its permissions. It does pretty much the same thing. That's how I got T-Mobile apps to stop using the battery.

I was wrong, the Tmobile app is the only one I couldn't get off the phone.
I know with Samsung I could use package disabler pro and was able to end the process and get it frozen
What I did is diable all permissions, revoke background data from the app, cleared cached and uninstalled all updates. Then don't open that app again and turn off autp update in the play store

Copy that... I want to be able to just disable the bloat like I should be able to, considering Android is open source & should be able to be customized. I purposely don't buy Applesauce phones because I like being able to tweak everything to my liking... What happened to the Android I fell in love with???
Has anybody on the T-Mobile LG V20 tried connecting their device to the DeBloater program? I'm curious if anyone else is getting the "Your device does not allow blocking" notification when connecting your phone...
Follwing.

Have you tried SD Maid Pro yet? I used that on my Sprint variant and was able to disable anything I wanted. Be advised, some of the apps are integrated into other apps within framework and could cause issues with apps you want to use still.

Delete Bloat?

So, since we don't have root, any ideas on how to delete bloat?
Granted the G6 isn't TOO terrible, I've definitely seen worse. There are still a handful of apps I wouldn't mind purging.
(Seriously, Facebook pre-installed? Lolz)
Any clue? Any tip? There's only so much I can disable.

Just got my G6 & am in the same boat. So used to Titanium Backup to de-bloat. For now I think we are stuck disabling what we can & hope root comes soon.
On my H870DS, facebook, instagram and that sort of BS was uninstallable. I got rid of them the minute I switched on the G6.

Only got LG bloat. Still want rid
Just disable what you can for now not much else to do :/
You can disable almost everything after use a command trough adb and few other passages with This app, tested my self, in this way i had the possibility to disable QMemo+.
I have a new vs988 on the way, will try to install that Disabler right away ☺
The app Killua96 pointed to seems to work fine on my G6 VS988. I followed the instructions for a non-rooted phone. A few clarifications:
-Don't bother setting up accounts or anything other than for getting your phone on the network and then running Play Store to download the app. In my case I ended up doing a factory reset, then DL'd the app.
-After the app is installed, follow the instructions to delete accounts -- you should only see the Google account listed (you have to give it your Google credentials when you run Play Store for the app)
-Go into Settings - Applications and disable GMail. When you entered Google credentials for Play Store it automatically shoves them into GMail. The fastboot command you run from your PC will error out if GMail is running, since it will see an existing account on the phone.
-Follow the app instructions, installing the minimal ADB/fastboot, running the couple of commands from your PC.
-When done, restart your phone, re-enable GMail, add whatever accounts you want.
I've used the app to disable a bunch of bloat (duplicate SMS apps, some VZW stuff I don't use, LG Health,...)
Be aware that if you have the Verizon VS988, it has DT Ignite hidden in the system apps. Fortunately, you can disable it.

I'll definitely check it out, but I'm a little concerned with giving device owner permission to some 3rf party app.
Are there instructions to change the owner back to default?

You can always uninstall it
I have the unlocked G6 that I bought here in the Netherlands. I am not so bothered by the LG apps, as some of it were usable, but It's annoying that apps like evernote, Google duo, sheets and slides can be removed.
You forgot to mention the ubiquitous Fookface crap that I personally have never used nor ever will use.
And ofc Chrome.
And Hangouts.
Hmm I could be here a long time.....
