Cracked screen & broken display - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

I dropped my phone from about 1 ft height (slipped out of my hands while taking out of my pocket sitting) which shattered the phone's screen and broke the display panel . My questions are:
Does the 2 year warranty apply to displays as well? How much would Ibhave to pay to get a replacement? Will the entire phone be replaced, or just the display & screen? The phone is unlocked, do I have to relock it? Can I do it without a working screen? Should I try to wipe the phone? Thank you

Passport 2.0 covers the entire phone. If you rooted the phone and unlocked the bootloader, then the warranty is voided.

i dont have Passport 2.0, so what parts cover under 2 year warrany program which is default protection given by ZTE?

Go to zte website and look?

will they check every phone that needs maintenance ?
you'll pay $79.99 for everything, shipping included

Dropped my 8125 - its done

I dropped my fone from the second floor to the first - but luckily the corner of the phone stopped it from hurting the floor any more. It hit the corder where the stylus is and now the screen looks a liitle raised from the keyboard. When I turn it on, it only shows me a white screen.
2 Questions:
1 - can I fix it
2 - can I get another one from Cingular (and how)
I know that I do not have protection on my phone since Cingular will not protect phones that cost more than $300 (when if you think about it, those are the phones you need to protect) Does anyone know how I can get another phone from Cingular without paying?
Thanks

getting one without paying isnt going to happen, especially since it shows obvious signs of user inlficted damage. you need to start saving up for your next phone purchase.
So Should I go ahead and try to open it up and see if I can fix anything in it?
In my opinion, I think the LCD is broken, or it could be just the connection loose where the LCD connects to the mainboard. Goodluck!

there is a place called www.safeware.com where you can insurace your PDA for about 60 bucks a year... check it out
you may get another from ebay for $400
if the screen and motherboard are not broken, try to get Dopod 838 housing assembly, and replace the housing
So I opened up the entire phone and only found that the InfraRed lens broken off. I don't see where else it is broken. I had everything apart except the screen from the face of the phone. I took off the back by taking the screen off of the guide rails.
I made sure the connections between the screen and the board where secure. With the phone completely open, I tried to turn it on and still got a white screen.
When I plug in the power, the orange light doesn't light up.
I think I'm up a certain creek without a paddle.
Here is an update:
I called Cingular and all they could offer me was the number to the manufacturer HTC (877-878-6944)
HTC sends me to their repair center (888-354-2375)
So I am sending my busted phone to them and here is how the process works:
They get your CCard # to have on file. You send the phone in your own package, your cost. They will get it, diagnose the problem and give you an estimate of cost. If you approve the cost, then they will charge your card for the repair plus $27.80 for return shipping. If you do not approve the cost then they will charge you $27.80 and return you your busted phone.
I'll keep you posted to the cost estimate.
10/26/06 - HTC calls me up and says that my unit will cost $169 to repair and I go ahead and authorize it.
10/30/06 - HTC Ships out my unit and I should get it 11/2
Jesus, 169!
wait wait..u mean to tell me there's no warranty on this device? not even a year?
I don't know how HTC works, but I used to own a couple of HP PDA and PDA phones...and if there's any kind of problem, hardware, software, or even if I dropped the device and broke it (which I did a couple of times), I call the warranty department (of course I had to lie and told them I never damanged it), but then they send me a new PDA on UPS Next day right away with no charge to me..and I send them back my old PDA postage paid....
I don't get it..why can't u do the same with HTC? Like I was wondering earlier...is there no warranty? Coz if there isn't, I'm returning my 8125.
And the Saga ends.
Yesterday got my phone and tested everything to make sure it works. Turns out that they actually do fix what you send them instead of just swapping it out. My case was cracked near the corner and you can see where they repaired the crack.
So there you have it.
- There is a warranty for factory defects, not dropping your phone

There is a 1 year warranty through Cingular but it does not cover lose or physical damage, only defects in the product.
My touchscreen developed some issues after about 3 months of use. It was replaced under warranty.
If you drop and break it your warranty is voided. This is pretty standard, insurance covers loss & accidental damage.

Just fixed my Digitizer

I have just got my replacement digitizer in the mail 2day from Hong Kong and installed it just now, all is working perfectly as new again. I did a hard reset when the touch screen was first playing up, so I have lost all my themes, settings etc but luckily my office docs etc are still intact.
Anyhow, I made a video on how to replace the touch screen, its only quick as I did not go from the disasembly part, as there is already videos and tutorials on this, so I just documented on the actual digitizer replacement, which is actually basic 2-5mins work, but I thought a vid would be good for any noobs needing it in the future.
Once I edit it all up I will post the video here.
If anyone needs help on replacing the digitizer just ask. DON'T be tricked into buying the LCD + Digitizer if you only need the touch screen, as it is very easy to do without the lcd, though some ppl disagree.
Thanks for reading, thread will be updatd with Vid asap.
Hi X86
I have a crack on the upper plastic case, thats prob. why I have dirt showing on screen. In your opinion where is it located and can I clean it ?
It seems as if (if the crack is on the actual original housing, not just a add-on case) that dirt/dust has fallen down inbetween the digitizer and the LCD, so you can see it through the touchscreen right?
This is fairly simple to fix, you will either need to patch up the crack with silicone or something (best from the inside so it does'nt look messy) OR buy yourself a whole nw housing which cost about US15-$20.
Then just pull your elf/in apart and use cotton tips and wipes to thoroughly clean the LCD and insides.
If you need any help, just let me know via PM or here.
?Good Luck!
Thanks
That was my feeling, now I just need courage to take apart the casing (either repair or replace )
Thanks for bringing up this issue in the forum and extending your hand to others.
I appreciate it alot.
Hi x86
I have read the sticky for disassembling the elf. Can you tell me if it's necessary to unscrew anything and remove the rear speaker in order to remove the front panel ?
Edit: I think I found the answer in the next pics, the 4 screws attach to the front panel, right ?
Hi, i've just entered the world of winmo. i've recently wrecked my Elfin. But i can't seem to figured it out whether it's the LCD or the digitizer is broken...
1) my Elfin's screen turns to white with a few red and black stripes on the lower left corner, it doesn't react to any touch gesture.
2) i can still activesync the device and seems that my SD card is still working, i could copy out my PIMcontacts...thank goodness
3) the alarm still rings the next morning, i assume my device is still operating, of course now i've taken out the battery.
4) i've ask the phone shop for repair enquiries and they said that the replacement parts are not for retail selling in my country, Malaysia... so it needs to send back my Elfin to OEM and takes about 3 weeks time and cost around USD $ 130 bucks....
5) my friends told me it wasn't worth it, thus i was thinking of looking for help online and finally i found this thread...
6) can anyone offer few pieces of info? i thank you 1st.

That sounds like both a Digitizer and LCD issue.
Red and white strips is caused by the screen, while the phone not sensing your fingers is caused by digitizer.
But you still managed to use something like mymobiler to rescue your stuff right?
Yeah, you're in Malaysia right? In Singapore, to get this items, we have to get it off ebay or dealextreme.com.
But be careful with this, it void warrenty.
If you send it to HTC service centre, it may cost $160> Singapore dollars.
Cheers,
Jeremy

Half of screen showing static, carrier refused to repair. Can I fix it myself?

Hi there,
A couple of weeks ago, my Note 4 began to act up. Every so often the right hand side of the screen would freeze up and eventually show static.
These pictures aren't mine, but they show the exact issue: http://imgur.com/a/LqoeA
Anyway, I decided to go to my phone carrier (EE) to get it repaired as it was still in warranty. They agreed that this would be covered and sent it to their repair center. The repair center then contacted me and told me that the fault was due to water damage (which is impossible as my Note has never touched water) and sent it back, refusing to fix it. When I got it back, it was in a complete state. They had broken the LCD and Digitizer to the point where the screen wouldn't even turn on anymore, and it was hanging out by the ribbon cables (The home button and flex cables for the soft keys were also extremely loose).
Because of this, I decided that I'd have a go at fixing it myself. I went online and bought a new LCD + Digitizer. I've just fit it and now whilst the screen powers on again, I've come full circle as the static issue still is present.
Is there any more I can do or is there no way of getting this fixed without professional aid? I'm unable to send it in for repairs because the repair center obviously are unwilling to work on it, and even if they were now, I wouldn't trust them as they inflicted even more damage to the phone and sent it back to me in a worse state. I've already sank £100 on a replacement part, so I'm not to keen on paying for repairs either (I could put the money towards a new phone instead).
The help is much appreciated! Thanks!

Display cracked unable to unlock and take backup - sent for repair

Hello Guys/Gals,
Unfortunately my Z3+ display cracked two days back when the device was kept face down on an uneven surface; I don't remember putting any force on it from above though. I now have a Sony Z3+ with a crack at the half way point. The bottom portion of the display is responding to touch, the top portion is not.
Unable to un-lock the phone using pattern and also USB mouse is not getting detected on OTG adapter. So had to give the device for repairs without taking backup which feels even more sad!
Moral of the story is:
Enable the setting for detecting USB devices so that you can connect Mouse over USB OTG, if this kind of unfortunate thing happens.
Repair cost is 11k INR approximately. will update details later.
On Sony Z3+ the Glass, Digitizer and LCD are fused as one unit and so the cost of a cracked glass is the cost of replacing all of these together.
The Display unit costs 9.6k, and the services charges about 1.2k.
Actual cost is 10.8k.
Costs mentioned are in Bangalore, India.

If rooting doesn't void my warranty, what does?

I rooted my OnePlus 5 a few days after I got it and recently found that OnePlus doesn't void your warranty for rooting. If this is true, than what does void my warranty?
The technical process of rooting or unlocking the bootloader does not void the warranty of a OnePlus device. However, we strongly suggest for you to only root or unlock the bootloader of your OnePlus device if you are confident in your understanding of the risks involved.
By accessing resources regularly unavailable to the software, you may damage your hardware during or after the procedure. Such damage is not covered under warranty. In warranty handling, we will first need to verify that any faulty behavior is unrelated to rooting / unlocking.
I think this means when you flash a different ROM or Kernel which causes a hardbrick and if you do something wrong with your device that can cause hardware issues. Experimental stuff or whatever.. But it's a good question! i like some examples too, maybe others know:silly:
screen crack, water damage and so on.
lol read the warranty that came with the phone
Recently my phone got a vertical white line appear on the screen that shows whenever the device is on, even if you are in the boot screen and not in the os yet. Hoping that me having a custom rom installed doesn't stuff me over with the rma. (this issue did not pop up due to the rom as ive had this rom installed without updating for quite a while, thinking its hardware either display or cable). Only mentioning this here as it is relevant to my situation.

Always flash stock before returning that is one way for you not to have an issue getting it covered.
I had to RMA my phone after 4 months. The service center replaced the motherboard and USB Port/headphone jack which were defective. I got the phone back today and there is a white line running the length of the display. When the phone is running for a while it turns into two lines and then three. There was nothing wrong with the display before the RMA.
Since the service center said they tested the phone and everything was working One Plus is trying to claim the phone was damaged in transit meaning the display problem would not be covered under warranty. So apparently any damage caused by One Plus Service Centers doing warranty repairs voids the warranty.
There are multiple complaints on the Internet of One Plus doing something similar to other customers. There are also multiple complaints from One Plus owners that the company said water damage voided their warranty even though all of the owners claim their phones never came in contact with water.
