Hello Guys,
my P8 is currently running out of memory. I have inserted a 64GB SD Card and I've already set the main memory path to SD Card BUT as of an update has been released for any of my apps, the app will be moved back from external memory to internal.
I also recognized the external storage cannot be used completely as internal storage.
To be honest, my P8 is currently so slow, it doesn't make fun to use this phone any more Also no way to free up some internal space.

What else have you tried so far to free up space?
Certain apps (especially music, video & photo ones) can accumulate a lot of unnecessary cache (& sometimes data), so clearing this up can help a lot - you can use the inbuilt 'Phone Manager' for this or a third-party cleaning app. For cleaning app data, you may want to be more careful, checking each one individually before deciding to clean (ask if in doubt).
Also, in the 'Phone Manager' app > Storage > Storage manager, you can view what kinds of files are taking up the most space in the internal storage. Then decide to move whatever is possible to the external card - using something like the free ES File Explorer app you can move all camera-taken photos+videos (plus other photos+videos if present), music, personal documents & probably everything in the Download folder to the external card.

If space is still a problem after doing all the above, consider doing what it says in this article, including using the external card as adoptable storage (you may want to get a faster card for the latter though): How to Set Up a New SD Card in Android for Extra Storage

Hello,
Can someone elaborate on what is meant by Storage memory and Program memory?
I would expect storage to be My Docs and Programs to be Windows and so on. I ask since my Storage allocation is two thirds full and all my docs on the device is empty. I use the SD card for that.

-Storage memory is memory used for saving files on you're phone, extention is you're memory card (micro SD).
-Program memory, is like the RAM-memory on you're PC, this is used when running programmes, watching movies-pictures...
Thanks. Well there are two storage areas. "Main" and "Storage Card". My query is for "Main". Within this there is "Storage" and "Program".
I would like to know what is used for what so I can look in a specific area and delete stuff I don't need. Like I said "Storage" seems rather full but I do not store anything on the phone itself. I use the storage card which does not present a problem.
In the storage info on the settings tab, under device it shows "storage" which is like your hard drive, and "program" which is like your RAM. Obviously, you don't actually have a hard drive. It's just an example
There's certain stuff that gets cached on the internal storage, and this can obviously bump up the space that's used (there's threads on here for cleaning/moving these things). Then there's the other culprit - Marketplace. If you've installed stuff from there, it's on internet memory, not your storage card. Also, do you install software to the device, or to the storage card? I only put essential stuff on the device, and stuff that I can live without on the storage card.
Just thoughts and suggestions.

Ah ok that explains a little then. I have been installing cabs to the device.
Do not understand; my total storage memory is 181,23MB, in use is 175,21MB, but when I check in explorer, there is only 89MB in use. What am I missing here??
Also, what does it mean program storage - total space 336,97MB?
Flash size 512MB, RAM size 448MB, what is the difference?
Its rather more complex than it ought to be, and HTC are being a little 'economical' with the truth!
It has 512MB of total storage, of which about 175MB is taken up by the ROM image. This leaves the 337MB you see reported. Of this, about 150MB is taken up by the HTC Sense system, then another chunk by the video memory leaving around 135MB free to the user. The new 'Light' custom ROMs without HTC Sense have over 300MB free to the user.
The 448MB RAM is just that- same as a PCs RAM. Even after loading the OS on startup there is ample ROM left for pretty much any eventuality!
When I go to settings/storage, I see that I have 400 megs of internal storage still available. I believe all my apps are stored internally. So as long as I show space available, is there any other benefit of installing apps to the sdcard instead?

Well if you're a person who installs a ton of apps on their phone, then having an sdcard for extra storage isn't a bad idea.

No, there's no benefit whatsoever in having the apps installed on SD card instead of internal memory. As long as you have enough internal memory to hold all the apps you want - moving them to SD card will just slow the loading of the phone, the loading of the apps themselves, will disable the apps when you're mounting the SD card on PC, and might create some other various mild annoyances.
If you have a lot of photos on your device, the gallery view thumbnails seem to use a tremendous amount of data; - nearly 2 gb on mine!! I have used utilities that allow me to clean these to retrieve the space, but the next time I view the gallery, the thumbnails just take up the space again; in addition, the performed task of cleaning them out just makes them load more slowly.
I'm hoping someone may have a trick (or hack) that can move the gallery thumbnails to the external SD card. Considering I only have 16gb of storage to begin with, and nearly 5 of it used up to store the basic OS, I'm not left with much space after installing my favorite apps. Furthermore, the performance on my device seems to be degrading as I approach maximum storage capacity on the internal storage.
I'm aware of programs that allow me to move program data to the external SD, but I have found that it's not uncommon that many programs have a tendency to glitch when using these utilities. I'm really more interested in staying focused on my primary intent of moving JUST the gallery thumbnails to the external SD card in hopes of saving space on my primary storage.
If it matters, my device is a rooted Verizon S5 running KitKat 4.4.4.

You can use the program FolderMount to make a folder on the Internal SD point to a folder on the External SD.
You may need the premium version to mount a folder that isn't in a data or obb folder.

Hi, I have a strange problem with my S7 Edge. It seems that my space is running low everytime and I keep deleting stuff to free up space for updates. Im sure my data is no more than 6GB. I know the usable storage for the 32gb version is 24gb. So why cannot access the rest of the storage?
Can anyone run an analyze and see how much storage usage they have on their internal storage?
Here is how mine looks like:
You need to show what is in "others" it is probably your data partition and it perhaps has big game files installed in there to be 20G in size. Do you use Gear VR? There are some huge downloads in that which end up in internal SD only, do you have a dual SIM version? If not, run a micro SD card, move your DCIM folder across and your camera app will typically auto-switch it's preferences to saving photos and videos to the "external" SD instead of internal.

I did tried opening the Others- doesnt show anything useful. How can I browse the data partition? I always thought that the internal sd is the data partition. Ideas?
I'm using normal sim version with internal sd card already setup to store images in sd card.
I dont use gear VR. and when I analyze space the Apps and DCIM folder with all my data is around 7GB. I cannot seem to find what takes the rest of the storage - not with a meaningful software. When I browse my internal storage, it seems that the used space there is aroung 7-8GB, and thats all.
Yes, I do this often in order to allow Google updates. Otherwise it cannot update apps.

I tried using https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-15-1-8-1-0_r48-j730gm-fm-f-03-11-18.3751681/ but for some reason it wouldn't detect my Sim Cards, so it was a useless approach. I ended up getting the ROM stock through SamFirm and was able to install it and I have my Galaxy working again.
Now, the original issue remains > I have no freaking space on my phone. It only has 16GB internal storage and 70% of it is used by god knows what.
I have 2 possible solutions:
- install custom ROM > if you have any links please let me know. Either Pixel Experience, or whatever, I just need something with decently clear steps to follow
- use my SD Card as internal storage. For some bizzarre reason it's turned off on Samsung, how could I enable it?

The bandwidth of the SD card interface is too slow for use as internal storage. Use it as a data drive instead.
Only apps, DCIM and the download folders should be on internal memory. The DCIM can be safely moved to the SD card. Leave a couple gbs of headroom on internal memory at all times.
Otherwise it sounds like you have outgrown the phone. My dual drive N10+ setup doesn't have many large 3rd party apps loaded. Even so 60gb is my typical usage. Since the available storage is many times larger than this, no worries. I typically use this large volume of unused storage for "scratch" storage. More is always better...

I only have 2GB of Apps and my Storage is at 11.8/16. That's my problem. I can't even move the apps that I want to the SD Card because most apps don't allow it. I'm talking about apps that I rarely use, can't even move them.
It's not like the phone is filled with Images or Videos, I don't care about that and I always delete whatsapp crap.
Something is using the space. Keep all social media trash apps (which is all of them) off the phone. Logon through browser only, it adds another layer of protection.
Try clearing the system cache. If you can't sort it out factory reset then carefully reload. Do Not use SmartSwitch as its a known troublemaker.
Using the SD card as the data drive you should be able to come up with a somewhat workable compromise. Consider an upgrade to a used or new N10+, you won't have this issue again.
