I get a failure when trying to flash a new ROM. I have three different zips (ROMs) on my phone. None of them will install for some reason and I get a failed error and it puts something about an error when updating binary script? How could I fix this on my nexus 4?
If I need to update twrp could I do so without using goomanager to do this? Goomanager won't download the recovery so I have to use another method
You probably need to update to the latest TWRP version. Use the TWRP link in my signature and get the latest version in the "mako" folder.
Use fastboot to flash it, use the command:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
(replacing twrp.img with actual file name)
If you don't know how to use fastboot, use the 3rd link for guide on installing custom recoveries.

had the same error and resolved it like this:
installed ROM Installer vom play store
installed cwm, and then twrp again from rom installer.. worked perfectly!
BUT WHATCH OUT! i think the error you get is called "error 9".. or something like that, it appears, when you try to install a zip, and the updater-skripts cancels the installation process, e.g., because it is not hte right zip for your phone!
so look at first, if you have the right zip downloaded
I'm unable to unpate as of right now because I have TWRP recovery installed.
When I try to, it tells me " Package expects fingerprint of *original device fingerprint* this device has TWRP\Team_Win_Recovery_Proejct/ailsa_ii
Updater process ended with ERROR: 8
Error installing zip file '@/cache/recovery/block.map'"
I tried removing the part of the script that checks this, but then I got a different error (I don't remember what it was, it said something about "Boot:1826459185:1U57126581(Random numbers not the actual ones) contains unexpected content" or something like that
So I was wondering, how would I go and update to the new Android 7.0 update? (I also have the zip file of the update locally)
I would assume that I could flash stock recovery but a. I don't have the stock recovery.img, and b. I was reading around and someone mentioned that if I flashed stock recovery it'd delete all my data.
I'd be highly disappointed if the only way I could update to the 7.0 update is by deleting all my data. I'm sure there must be some way around it.
Can anyone help me out? I'm sure I'm not the only one that'll have this issue
EDIT: Flashed Recovery.img (Only recovery.img, via fastboot)
Results: Recovery is flashed and working.
Phone does boot up perfectly fine, no issues

Flashing stock recovery will not delete your data. Find your stock firmware download on the forum or zte, pull recovery.img from it and flash in twrp.
Of course those who whine about wiping data usually are the ones who need to do it most.
FYI I updated, flashed twrp and then restored data from my b29 backup without issue. At least this way you can make a new backup before attempting.
You can also wait for the flashable .zips to show up and avoid all the hassle.

Read my updated comment; Sorry that I didn't just edit the thread. And that makes sense. I think it would be wise for me to just wait.
First of all, flash rollback zip from DrakenFX.
Then update via OTA. That's all. I've done these steps yesterday and I'm using Nougat now.

I saw your post then had forgotten about it til now ( haven't checked ) but in the last month I've forgotten where the rollback zip is located / what thread. Any help would be appreciated.
Only use ota if you don't want twrp/root anymore.

Hi all,
I currently have a P9 Lite with VNS-L31C432B371 firmware installed.
Recently, I received the VNS-L31C432B381 update via OTA. Unfortunately, when the phone reboots into recovery mode, the update does not even start; instead, I get redirected to the custom recovery (TWRP 3.1.0.-2, system partition read-only) "homescreen".
Is there a way to update to B381 without wiping the entire phone?
Thank you for your time.
The OTA update system uses the EMUI stock recovery so no, there is no way you can update your phone through the updater by using the custom recovery

Yes.
Download your build's update.zip, extract the zip to desktop, you'll then have an update.app (you probably need the full ~2GB build, not OTA, e.g I use B370);
Extract recovery.img from the update.app via HuaweiUpdateExtractor;
boot to bootloader;
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img.
Done.

I succeeded in extracting and installing the recovery from the update.zip. Unfortunately the OTA failed anyway.
At this point, I think I should just wipe the phone and install the complete update from here.

Well I , like you, had a custom recovery. The 3-button method didn't work for me and even after restoring the stock recovery I was unable to install the update.
I unpacked the Update.APP file and flashed through fastboot the BOOT, RECOVERY, VENDOR and SYSTEM .img files and I was succesful but now I have the Model number as generic_a15 and Build number NRD90M test-keys. I can only assume some of the other img files carry the information about my phone. At the moment is stable enough but I can't open the Security menu.
If someone has any idea on how to flash the other img files, please let me know

I only have old oeminfo.img packages, do you know how I can build one? There is a PRODUCT.img but it is considerably bigger than the oeminfo package that I have seen.
I flashed all the old B370 files, update.zip and update...hw_eu.zip, with DC Phoneix (a non free tool but saved me from.a bricked phone). After that, I flashed the new package and got the Security settings and Developer Options to work again.

Hello, I can't recommend any guide on outside of xda cause they're not consistent...
Just follow this guide in the first post https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/how-to/official-oxygenos-4-5-2-7-1-1-ota-t3627003 would help you.
You can't flash twrp 3.3.1 cause you need newer firmware, pie firmware.
Please answer all the questions:
What is you current twrp recovery (file name)?
What is your current Rom(file name)?
What is your magisk version?
Is your storage encryped or decrypted?
Hello and thanks for your answer.
My current TWRP is twrp-3.2.3-0-20180822-codeworkx-cheeseburger.img
I am not sure about my ROM's file name
My Magisk version is 19.3 (19300) - Magisk Manager version is 7.3.4 (235) : it says everything's up to date
I think my storage is encrypted since it asks for my password when I start TWRP
[Clean Flash] For Users with an Unlocked Bootloader and TWRP Recovery:
Download the full ROM zip from the downloads section above
Transfer the zip to the root of your device's internal storage
Only needed if you are coming from Oreo and use a TWRP that does not ignore the compatibility.zip check: Remove the compatibility.zip from the downloaded full ROM zip with either MiXplorer or Total Commander (not with any other tool!) on your device itself
Reboot to TWRP recovery (make sure you're using an Oreo TWRP if you're on Oreo Firmware/ROM or Pie TWRP if you're on Pie Firmware/ROM) and take a nandroid backup of your existing ROM
Flash Magisk Uninstaller (recommended)
From the TWRP menu, Wipe > Advanced wipe > Select dalvik-cache, cache, system, vendor and data> Swipe to wipe
From the TWRP menu, Install > Select full ROM zip (modified one with compatibility.zip removed, in case you're on Oreo or unmodified one, in case you're on Pie) > Swipe to flash
Flash the latest stable Magisk in case you want to root
From the TWRP menu, Wipe > Advanced wipe > Select dalvik-cache and cache > Swipe to wipe
Optional: If you wish to decrypt, format data via TWRP (please note that wiping the data partition, which we did in the 5th step above, is not the same as formatting it) and after that flash xXx No Verity 4.0.zip from here
Reboot
Note: First boot may take some time, so please be patient and wait for it to boot.

Exactly, delete the compatibility.zip from 9.0.8 rom file and flash it with your current twrp, exactly like in the linked guide for update, not clean flash if you have already a rom above OxygenOS 5.1.4, so please check your OxygenOS version(settings, about).

So as I said, once I am on this screen where I can select between START/POWER OFF/RECOVERY MODE/RESTART BOOTLOADER and I type the "fastboot device" command, nothing comes up.
Is this screen not the "Fastboot mode" ?

It's weird that when it's on I can see it with "adb devices" and Windows sees it's a Oneplus, but when it's in fastboot I can't with "adb fastboot" and Windows detects an USB but can't say what it is.
I feel its a driver issue but can't figure it out

That's such a strange bug. If you are in fastboot, it's impossible for your PC to recognize it in ADB mode. Try with another computer or use unbrick tool to clean your phone (it installs Oxy 9.0.8)

I'm only fighting with my TWRP recovery and my Bootloader !
The Android version I had before that was Android 7.1.1( old boy...)
I'd be pleased if someone could help me solving this issue...

I tried so much, but actually I really can't flash nothing...
I'm now having : "Updater process ended with ERROR: 4"
I also had ERRO 7 from TWRP, but I tried everything, like changing a part of the code of one script of the ROM, but nothing is working.
