Google Play Services keeps FC - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I couldn't be the only one with this issue. I've tried stock Nougat, rooted and unrooted. I've also tried Substratum latest version, Nougat. No matter what I get a FC by Google Play Services every few minutes. Tried clearing cache and data for Play Services, it seemed to help for some time then the problem came right back. This happened on my 5X which I'm selling now, as well as my 6P. Anybody else having this issue?
Until it is cleared up I'm sticking with 6.0.1.

If you don't have the latest version of Play Services you can try updating to the newest version. Check your installed version against the newest one on APK Mirror.

Getting FC on 6.0.1 now too. Got the appropriate Play Services from APK Mirror but no improvement. Enabled all permissions for it. Only thing I can think of now is installing apps one at a time until I start getting FC

Hello all! I have the same problem on my Nexus 6P brand new...
Play Services stops all time, i cannot download or update a thing from play store, i cannot communicate with google servers (only some times)
Downloads some times gives me error 960...
Keyboard also crashes a lot
I've tried: Flashing different stock roms, flashed pure nexus custom rom... also tried bunch of different gapps packs... made an nandroid backup from another nexus 6p working and put it on mine... etc.. nothing happens... there is also a tricky thing on wifi connections... i have to wait much too long for it recognizes the internet connetion (it connets fine at the network).. tried in 4 different houses, and with 3 different sims...
Anyone has a clue here? im done reading and trying.
Thanks in advance!

Check your rom, under Settings > About Phone, verify your build number for example NBD91K or NBD90X for example. Most custom Rom's link the vendor img in the post somewhere. If your familiar with flashing then you shouldn't have a problem. If not use, skipsoft toolkit to help you root/flash or anything else android.

[Q] Google Services Not Working

I am using my rooted Nexus 4 and google services are not working, when I try to sign in I get 'Can't establish a reliable connection to the server'. It is not just the rom I am on (currently Omni rom) because I have tried several and it does not work on any of the roms. I also know that it is not a faulty gapps package because I have tried several different packages. I have scoured the web for a solution to the problem but none of the ones I have come across have had any effect. Does anybody have any advice?

Which Gapps are you using?
The one made by PA is highly recommended: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942
I would do a full wipe, then reinstall the ROM, then Gapps.

I have already done these things and none of them are effective.
I think our N4 has developed the same issue except it only happens on cellular data--no google maps or other google but great LTE speed and full (except for google) web access. This started about 3 mos ago. You're the first I've come across through my scouring. Rooted, DE-odexed stock. Sorry I can't help.

I have found ( what is probably a temporary) solution; I downgraded to JB and then upgraded back to KK. My gapps are working fine currently but I have a feeling they may break a gain again. However, for now my N4 is working smoothly.
Thanks. Will try.

[HELP] How to give a new life to N7

Hi all, my family owns a Nexus 7 (2012) 16GB WiFi (no 3G) with Android 5.1.1
My mother mostly use it and I'm always disinterested about it, but recently they asked me for help because it became slower. I googled a little and found about the slowness/lags of Lollipop. I tried a wipe cache partition but it still has a long time boot and i'll try a factory reset.
I'm wondering which other ways to try, if downgrade to Stock KitKat or Root and:
1) Lollipop custom rom (which?)
2) KitKat custom rom (which?)
thanks in advance
This ROM was given a new life for my Nexus 7(2012)!

I hope it gives yours as well.

i keep getting stuck at the google sign, this is on a rooted 4.1 stock rom. I tried numerous times. Do I need to be on a different version instead on 4.1?
You need to update your bootloader to 4.23.
I suggest to do so by using fastboot, but keep in mind that there are some non functional / brick risky bootloader images around.
Pure Nexus ftw
Hi!
I'd like to suggest you to give a try for the Pure Nexus ROM (based on 6.0.1. MM, already pre-rooted), which is truly brings that new life to your N7 device, what it deserves... :good:

I agree with you
Hi everybody. I have a nexus 7 wifi 2012 and use it in my car. The only apps i use is:
Google play Music - listening music (obviously...)
CarHome Ultra - Car Dash application
Torque - Always running, mainly for fuel consumption
Tablet Talk - For receiving sms on my tablet while driving
Nothing else except maybe youtube very rarely
Which Roms sould i install? Right now i have XenonHD but it's laggy. Sometime my tablet freeze for many seconds. The only important thing is that i have always these 4 apps running at the same time.
Thank you!
Since nobody can tell me which one i should try i will try both and make my own opinion.
No luck with both roms. The first one give many errors (app has stopped) and the second one pure nexus rom stay stuck on the marshmallow animation. So I reinstalled xenonhd for now.
@mvez73 you should also read the OP when installing a ROM, especially when comming from a non MM-ROM. MM has changed much in permission handling and you need to manually enable some settings to be able to use it without issues.
I speak french and I don't understand everything when it's not as usual. Can you explain me what I need to do? I tried to fix permissions with twrp but no changes. Still have errors with apps stopped. Thank you
You need to go to Settings -> Apps -> Show System Processes
and grant all permission they are requesting to google play store and google play services
Ok. Doing a backup right now (forgot it last time.... -_-) and go for another try with your informations. Thank you!
Looks ok now. Thank you @AndDiSa
Did i missed that fix in the thread? I did a search but i didn't find a solution except fix permission with twrp. Anyway it works now so thank you again!
Fix permissions in recovery only helps when you are restoring e.g. a Titanium Backup and the application ids changed meanwhile.

Pure Nexus ROM

I installed Pure Nexus on my Nexus 6P the other day. I was using the phone as stock for the past couple of months. I'm an old user of CM mind you.
Since the last 2 days, Ive had nothing but problems with the ROM. I've got several apps that keep crashing,, namely Minimalistic Text, Camera and others. This never happened at all on stock. Even when I use Airdroid to scan the QR code, it uses the wrong camera.
Unfortunately, I've decided to flush Pure Nexus and just in the middle of flashing CM 13 and will try it in a few minutes.
I think I've given enough time for Pure Nexus, but I can't blame the apps that I'm using, as I've used them before on various ROMs on my old Nexus 4 without incident as well as on my Nexus 7.
I've tried to post in another forum thread but since I'm unable to as I haven't posted many times, the forum has driven me here instead.

Hey Barry,
After you flashed Pure Nexus ROM, did you delete the cache? I would try it again, since things can go wrong and others are on Pure Nexus without issue.
deleted cache, dalvik, wiped entire phone, yes

Try flashing vendor image. Pure Nex is a solid rom one of the most stable roms there is.

Maybe grab some logs of these apps crashing and post them on pure nexus thread.

the apps you are having issues with, did you restore those from a backup (i.e. Titanium Backup)? If so i'd clear the app data/cache and force close them. Typically that helps.
I've lost everything since I've put in a different ROM, but have contacted the developers of the apps of my problem. After mant apps crashing, I decided that it was futile to contact the developers as I realized it was due to the ROM and not the apps I was using, as I've used them before without problems

If I were you, I would try again. Download the ROM and verify that is the correct checksum. Like I said, others here have Pure Nexus without issue.
did a hashcheck [md5] of all files as I usually do. Now I'm even having problems flashing new ROMs since in the last hour or so. I've made a backup of Pure Nexus ROM, so I know I'm able to use it, but might have to do other things here in the next couple of days to get rid of it

I guarantee you it was not due to the rom. If it was others would be reporting the same thing you are. Logs are the only way to diagnose a problem. Its a waste of time discussing anything workout logs..

I just reverted to Pure Nexus again from my backup as I can't seem to flash any other ROM. I did some logs on one app but I can only do it while the app is running and not when it's crashed. I'm unable to attach the file here but only put the text which is too long for an xda submission. I've gone through help to attach but it seems I have to make a new post and not reply to this thread. Weird!

BTW I've installed CM 13 and minimalistic text works flawlessly on it, no hiccups no crashes, weird!!
When stuff like that happens to me and I feel I've tried everything I can think of, I usually make it easier on myself to run the script in Google's factory image and start new. Flash TWRP with ADB tools, format, reboot TWRP, transfer flashables, and start with that ROM from scratch with GApps. Most variables of messing up would have been avoided and chances of success should be high. Anyone else agree with that?

LOL! I've done that a few times reverting to stock and going from there. I'v had to do that in the past to get out of trouble. But seeing how I've done this countless of times over the past few years and the last phone was also a Nexus [albeit quite a change from Lollypop to Marshmallow], the rules are the same for flashing. One thing I was concerned with initially was that the vendor.img file for Pure Nexus was MMB29P but I'm on MMB29T. I don't know if that's an issue. I'm using 6.0.1 Android.
I may try it again in a few days mind you and re-flash. Will def post something if it's a positive change!!

GPS causing reboots

I have been searching to fix this issue for days and no luck.
Whenever I use an app that needs GPS (Google Maps, camera), my phone automatically reboots when I am using a Nougat Rom on my Moto X Play.
Anyone have a solution for this? The roms run great other than this bug.
Thanks

Which ROM are you using and which one did you come from?
I went from CM13 to 7.x and had both GPS and mobile data problems until I went back to stock and then finally back again to 7.x. I dunno if that was the solution but I've had no problems since (currently on AOSP Extended, latest).
I flashed a bunch of them and never had a problem. Just before this problem i was using 6.01 Spectrum.
I re flashed stock and then went back to nougat pure nexus but same problem no matter what nougat rom I flash on moto x play.

Ah, unfortunately I'm not much help here then.
I would suggest going to your ROM's thread and posting there, with a logcat.
Good luck!
I have narrowed it down a bit. When my mobile data is on, and phone is using gps then I get the soft reboot. Anyone?

GPS causing reboot
I used to have the same issue on my device.
Everything came back to normal after modifying my APN settings...
I'm not 100% sure which particular setting made the difference, but it seems that the flash process have modified the original settings, so I just entered the pre-flash settings that I had written down before my fist rom flashing attempt.

Google play issues?

Is anyone experiencing Google play issues on their Nexus 6p. No wifi or cellular data? In order for it to work I have to delete the host file but then after it does the same thing. Doesn't work.
A bit confused, Google play, no wifi and Mobil data, why you delete the hosts file. It's not related to each other.
Which rom do you use, and what did you do or what happens that you don't have wifi or Mobil data. Are you on a clean flashed rom ?
I'm actually on pure Nexus room 7.1.1 all of a sudden. It started doing that out of nowhere. I am connected to WiFi and do have data. Not sure why deleting the host file fixes it but after a while it works after I keep deleting the host file. I never had this issue before till 3 days ago, which is very strange. Maybe it was a Google play store update?
Ah, ok, that sounds different, first I thought you have no wifi and Mobil data. But no, switching between nougat and Oreo these days and no Google update leads me to such issues. If you like to stay on your current rom, wipe cashes and system and dirty flash your rom, maybe with updated gapps. Perhaps the lazy way will fix your issue
Edit: I guess you tried wiping playstore and playservices data before .
