I can't seem to get my Verizon Galaxy S7 to play audio via USB. On my old S4 there was an "Accessories" menu in settings with an "Audio output mode" option that let you enable USB audio out, but I can't find that option on the S7. Anyone know how to fix this? I am rooted on PE1 firmware.
Thanks

Unlock developer options by going to Settings -> About Phone and tapping on Build Number multiple times until it says developer mode is enabled (should be about 10 taps).
From there hit back to go back to the settings menu and near the bottom you should see Developer Options. Go in there and there are two options you can configure. One is "Prevent USB audio routing" and the other is "USB configuration". You'll obviously want to make sure that the first one I listed is disabled so it's not preventing audio and then change USB configuration to say "Audio source" (I think but default it's set to "Charging").
By the way, I found these by just opening up settings and tapped on search in the top right corner and typed in "audio" so that anything in the settings for audio would show up (developer options settings won't show up unless you have it enabled though).
Hope this helps you out.

Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately this didn't work.
FWIW I'm trying to get it to work with an iBolt xProDock

This thread has similar problems. Seems you're the first one to try with the iBolt, but others have tried some similar devices and were unsuccessful. On the bright side a few users state that they were able to get it to work with other devices. Seems like Samsung isn't compatible with every USB device out there when it comes to audio, which is odd because the S4 seemed to be more compatible than the S7 is.

As far as I know, this sets the phone as a USB Audio Device, so it can send audio into a computer (USB Host), behaving like a USB microphone. This will not help you play audio through a USB speaker (Device) that expects the phone to act as the Host.

Hello,
anybody else got a problem with TV OUT ?
I cannot make it work. And when entering the Service/Test Mode, it won't work there either! Its setting is OFF.
In comManager its all greyed out, no matter if connected with a cable to a tv or not.
There is a reg setting about it and when I enable it there, it shows enabled, but it actually is NOT.
So I am wondering if this is perhaps MY hardware or if there is any 'secret' to it, to make it work.
Thanks!
Everybody's elses TV OUT working fine???
Hey what is this, no replies at all. Should I believe EVERYBODIES TV OUT is working fine?
Or nobody using that at all? I want to know if with all you out there, the TVout in connection manager is greyed out or not (with or without a plug).
Even in service/test mode my setting is OFF and cannot be changed.
Need to know if this is just mine and the hardware is perhaps broken. Thanks!
Mine works.
(I used it very rarely but it's good to know it there)
MS Direct Push not working either?!?!
Good to know at least somebody's works! If you go to connection manager, the TV screen is greyed out on mine, on yours its yellow?
And what about the square where you put the ckeckmark, its greyed on mine, on yours not?
Now, what is your software version?
Thanks

When the cable is not connected, the TV out checkbox in Connection Manager is greyed out. The moment I connect the cable to both phone and TV, a menu pops up and shows a picture and two aspect ratio options to choose from.
Are you sure it's not the cable or the input on the TV faulty? I mean it is clear for me the TV out option is available only after a connection between phone and a valid input of a working TV has been established. Dunno, try other tv sets?
My phone software is plain 6.5.3 generic UK. only mods are sd card fix and overclocking, so very little to do with the matter we are discussing.
Yeah, I tried different TVs. But since it won't even work in TestMenu, I figure it my hardware now.
You see, in testmenu, one does not even need to connect a TV because it will be displayed on the lcd. And no cable needed either.
What is your manufacture date? Its inside battery compartment on white sticker, like 09Wxx or 10Wxx.
Mine says 09W48

I'm too facing the same problem..
It identifies the cable as a headset.
Anything to do...?

My display just went blank all of the sudden. No image. The backlight works, the touchscreen works, everything works, except the display. I've done some research and I'm pretty sure this is a hardware problem.
I plugged into my PC and pulled the images off, but I really need a backup of the text messages on the phone.
I tried a "remote control" app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2786395, but it won't work because ADB can't find my device.
My phone is not rooted. I'm certain the ADB utility and phone drivers are installed, but USB debugging won't enable when I connect my phone to my PC. I'm certain USB debugging is enables, but it won't activate. I believe it's because it's connected as "media device" and it should be connected as an "internet device". Problem is, I can't see what I'm doing to enable it.
Can someone walk me through the steps to pulldown the menu, select "connected as" and choose the correct option? (Screenshots of each step or X,Y coordinates in inches or millimeters).
Alternatively, I can mirror the display if I can enable screen sharing, but that might be more tricky.

Can someone please take screen captures of the steps to move from connected as MTP to internet?
Currently I'm having to manually change the usb connection to MTP every time I plug into my car to get android auto to run. Is there any way around this or to set it by default to MTP? I've tried doing it through developer options, but it doesn't stick.
Same issue it worked when I turned off ADB debugging but then stopped working seems like another bug will have to wait for them to sort out really annoying for Android Auto users.
Under "Developer Options", there is the "USB configuration" setting. Mine is set to "Charging" but I can change it to "MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) or PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol) or RNDIS (USB Ethernet) or Audio source or MIDI. Are either of these options what you need?
Sorry, if I'm missing something with the problem you're facing, but I thought I'd throw out what I see. Disregard this post of it's something else you need. Good luck!

I'm having the same issue. And as the OP stated, we are changing it in developer options, but once you back out and go back to check it, it's back to charging mode. Been a nuisance as it disconnects from AA when it switches to charging mode.
It's super annoying. Hopefully a fix will be out soon, but doubtful

I'm having an issue getting Android Auto to launch in my Subaru Crosstrek 2018 model. It works when I use my Nexus 6p but not with the Essential phone. I've tried different cables and reinstalling Android Auto but no luck. Anybody else having issues with Android Auto in their car with the Essential phone?
I had major problems getting Android Auto to work with my Essential phone.
At first, I kept getting the red screen of death (something about "do this when the car is stopped and the brake is on"...of course the car was stopped and the brake was on...). The next day (after a phone update), I tried again and could get past that screen. But then it wouldn't connect.
Turns out you have to scroll down the notifications and change the connect mode from USB charge to MTP manually. Once you do that, it quickly connects. Why the phone can't automatically do that for you...I don't know. But I've done this repeatedly now and each time it connects once you change to MTP mode.
(I also have USB debugging on--don't know if that's important as well).

Android Auto doesn't kick-in on my '20 Subaru Outback (works on my wife's '19 Nissan Rogue).
Can you specify how to get to this setting. I'm unable to find it...
Thanks

For the current connection, expand the "usb charging" notification, and it will give you a prompt to the available options - just select what you need. To change the default USB connection behaviour, go to Settings - System - Developer options - Default USB configuration, and select an appropriate connection mode.

Funny there is no USB charging notification on the top, but in Default USB configuration should it be on File Transfer? Thanks!
I've never had a problem with android auto on mine, though I think I probably did change the default connection mode to file transfer a long time ago (before I had a vehicle with android auto).
You can also try a USB hub. These resolved the problem:
AmazonBasics 4 Port USB to USB 3.0 Hub with 5V/2.5A power adapter
ASIN B00DQFGH80
TP-Link | 4 - Port USB 3.0 Hub | Slim & Foldable Cord Design | Compact Travel Size with Charging Ports | Universal Compatibility - USB Flash Drive, Notebook, MacBook, PC, Chromebook and More (UH400)
ASIN B012B6YQY6

I am wanting to transfer music and photographs from my laptop to my XiaoMi A1. I cannot follow the youtube explanation at all.
I get to the "Index of" and the list of what is on the phone but there appears to be a leap between that and the next page.
Is there a simple way to connect the phone and laptop? I am using Windows 7.
Appreciate any assistance the group may be able to provide this technical incompetent
With Win7-10, when you plug in the usb cable, there should be a notification. Just open the pull down menu, tap the notification and select the "Transfer files" option and then you're all set to transfer files. The default setting in the USB notification is charging (and changing this in the developer settings doesn't seem to do anything). If you're attaching the cable for the first time on the phone, windows will automatically download a driver.

Hi, thank you for the response. Much appreciated.
There was no notification when I plugged in the usb cable
Unfortunately the driver did not download - it tried - so am now wondering as to how to go about doing that. Is there a specific driver?
Yes, I tried the developer options on the USB debug in the developer setting and no, not much happened.
Ideas?

The usb port on the pc could be faulty. One port on my pc is like that and works only as a charge only port, data transfer pins do not work. Try a different port or another pc.
