Going from a Nexus 5X as I want a larger screen. I liked the Rom capabilities of the Nexus 5X. Is the G4 easy to unlock bootloader, root, and install custom Rom? I was using Nexus root toolkit so I suppose I can't do this on the Moto G4. What's the best way to unlock, root, and install custom Rom on a G4?
Please check out other threads thoroughly before asking redundant questions. There is already a well detailed thread on rooting, custom recovery and bootloader unlocking.

So what are your favorite roms to run on it?
For battery life: Beanstalk ROM/ Slim 6
For customisation: Resurrection Remix/PAC ROM
For overall stability and reliability: Beanstalk (again)
For a close-to-stock experience with little customisation: Oct-OS ROM
For a pure CyanogenMod experience: Stock/Temasek's CM 13
I've tested these many on my XT1643 Indian Variant. And these are my personal opinions based on my usage.
It might be different for other people.

Great, thanks for all the suggestions. I like resurrection remix so will try that first.
Can you link me to the best way to unlock bootloader , root, and install TWRP on the Moto 4G? Appreciate it!

FWIW I'm really enjoying vanir aosp right now but all the other ROMs run great for me as well

Hello my fellow g4 users i hace just baught g4 plus so i am not aware of all the custom roms here on g4 community so if someone could fill me in about these roms it would be very helpful
Go to the development section and take a look. They're all based on cm13, all of them got the same cm13 quirks and their own features and problems. Try one and see if you like it, or don't, since stock is almost perfect in any way, perfect, xposed stock is unbeatable.
Thanx for ur reply brother
Isn't VANIR AOSP not cm?
Hi guys,
Thanks very simple I just wanna know what do you think about roms.
My data:
Rom: Stock 6.0.1
Why?: Because I think it's the best in terms of performance
LineageOS. I like it because of its stability and fast updates. It's very close to stock with no unnecessary add-ons.
Latest stock because battery life, smoothness and picture quality.
I just got a used G4 XT1625. I'm staying with stock Nougat until Lineage 15.0 is stable. It works fine for my needs. I used LOS 14.1 on my G3 and that was fine too.
InvictaOS is best in my opinion.
Currently on : 7.1.2 but, soon to be Oreo, may be in a day or two.
Stable, one of the best performing, eduqate amount of features, and fast updates!!
Its all about the personal Choice! 1st of all understand what do you need! Stock or Custom!
The best custom ROM, out of the ROMs which I have tried is Invicta... The beta version of O is out already so you can try that, and it is being updated every week (Almost! Great Dev we have!)
If you want stock, you should use 7.0 with Vegito kernel! It is very stable and gives you good battery backup! Now nothing can match stock, but it does miss out on features so once u have Vegito, u can root via magisk (its my personal choice) or any other, and then install Xposed which is now out Officially and works perfectly with stock. Adds a lot of features and good thing? You can always take stock OTAs as they come along! (you can even try systemless Xposed, I am not sure it will work or not, but it is available)
So its your choice! I have tried both of them and works perfectly! I stay on custom ROM since, it gives me one of the most imp feature that is notification LED, And more ! So, its your personal choice!
Hope this helps!
Same here Stock 6.0.1 with xposed and supersu
InvictaOS because @Silesh.Nair is an awesome developer and I really trust his judgment on what he finds best to put in a rom. And it's stable with features of my liking.
Anyone know which is better for the moto g4 the pixel experience or resurrection remix thanks

It's really more of a personal choice. Try them both out and see which one you like more.
I'm on AICP 64-bit.
Ty ragarianok I'm looking for something to use as a daily driver and I've heard mixed reviews on 64 bit saying its not as good as 32 on our device

Pixel experience has almost no customization options while resurection remix has hundreds(compared). That's the first question you should ask yourself: do I want less or more?
I am wanting to unlock my new moto g5 plus. I have to have it for work so the rom has to be the five 9s. I am not trying to start a word war just a simple question. Yes I have done some searching and so far I have gotten many conflicted statements. I have RETUS on 93-8 build. Any help would be great
What is the most stable and close to AOSP Oreo rom we have?
Also I have a Full Backup of 93-8. If you have TWRP and want to go back to stock just restore. Let it boot. most things didnt work. Reboot into recovery and factory reset I did it X3 just old habit and reboot everything is working fine. will update post with link if anyone is interested
Thank you
P.S. MODS I am not trying to have a best rom thread here. Each rom has features each person wants etc etc. If it starts to get crazy please remove thread.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Now, I'm currently in AOSP Extended and works like a charm, even on camera and the OBB bug that some Oreo ROMs have it's fixed. There's Pixel Experience, but the ROM it hasn't been updated since February; it's really stable but it has problems with the camera in some apps and other small bugs. If you want personalization and stability, go for AOSPExtended. If you want only stability and lightweight Pixel/AOSP alike experience, go for PE or LineageOS (I haven't tried this ROM yet, but it is there). Good luck!

I think AOSP Extended is a good choice.
It's in active development, has the major Oreo bugs fixed, nice features and a good performance.
But it shouldn't be unsaid that I haven't found a custom rom that could hold a candle to stock in terms of battery and stability.
And don't forget that there could be major issues when you want to go back to stock like losing IMEI, 4g or voLTE. Be sure to have a backup especially of EFS.
All custom roms are build without a "real android 8" for Moto G5+ so maybe it could be worth waiting for stock Oreo.

I am trying it now, the only problem I have is since I was on 93-8 there is no full firmware yet. I cant go to 93-4 get invalid everything. So until that firmware is released guess its custom for me hopefully Oreo comes soon so we can get any small issues in Oreo roms ironed out. Deff been a fun day playing with roms
Im using OmniROM for a month or so.
Good battery (from 5am to aprox. 11pm with 2h+ of music listening, and general usage)
Câmera I personally dont use much but works fine.
Is fast and stable nothing to complain about.
Im not using FOR work anymore since I got another job, but I certainly sure if I have to, the phone will work fine.
I've been using nitrogen os for a few months now and never had one reboot and battery is better than stock with my usage.
I thankfully did a full backup before I did anything so I can go back to stock rom with stock recovery
So according to you, which is the best & stable custom rom for Moto G5+? and which rom you are currently using?

It's really astonishing that every week a thread with that question pops up here, I think at the moment we have three or four of these. Why has everyone to open a new thread to ask a question that can't be answered?
The only valid answer is: Try them out.
There is no "best" custom ROM, if there would be one we only needed that, all other ROMs would be obsolete.
But to give you a direction:
Imho the stock ROM is the best in terms of battery and performance.
All Oreo ROMs have bugs, some just small ones, others bigger ones. Examples are camera, video recording or high battery consumption.
Also there are some big problems if you want to return to stock, losing voLTE, losing 4G or IMEI are well known in this forum.
I wouldn't flash any Oreo ROM before Lenovo releases stock Oreo, the bugs can be sorted out and there will be safe ways to return to stock if you wish.
If you still want to flash a custom ROM Aosp Extended 4.6 based on Nougat is a good one but don't forget to make a nandroid backup before you flash anything.
This is only my personal opinion, as written above to find "your" best ROM you'll have to test them.

Hello XDA:
I am getting a Nexus 4 in the mail mainly as a rootable and rommable phone, but also as a backup. Can you all point me in the direction of a good, stable, official ROM that is good enough to be used as a daily driver, and also the most functional mods to go along with those ROMs. I also need help with rooting it and unlocking the bootloader.
Thanks in advance!!!
Jacob
I use CrDroid daily and without bugs, for root and unlocking bootloader use Nexus Root Toolkit v2.1.9... The rom that I mentioned before comes with root..
AICP 11 with quanta v20 on f2fs for data and cache. I can provide aicp if yoy you wish as its quite hard to find, it is a cm based rom, runs great with magisk
