Flashing Rom's - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
The samsung Galaxy s5 seems to be the hardest device to flash roms on compared to all the other android tablets and phones i've owned,
nothing seems to work properly aha. I tried installing an omega rom v1.8 which didn't work at all so i gave up and thought do they have a cyanogenmod ROM for Samsung Galaxy S5 and installed Lollipop (5.0) and i like it apart from no fingerprint scanner functionality which was lack of research on my behalf and the home button won't wake the screen up (have to use power button)
i thought why not try going to 6.0.x (Marshmallow) and i always get an error saying "Patching System Unconditionally" which could sit there for hours if i let it, im unsure if i have to update my bootloader? but it should be fine

Are you using full firmware tar downloads from sammobile.com

i thought it was an error because it only shows up when a rom doesn't want to worka aha
and yeah tried factory, data, system, dalvik etc
cheers

When stuff breaks on s5 I flash pb1 firmware in odin for some reason flash always seems to work
Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

Sorry whats PB1
Also,
i just installed the stock Lollipop ROM to my phone so it wasn't as useful as a brick haha,
these are the steps ill do,
ill flash a custom recovery TWRP probably my favourite, and that will be done with odin
ill redownload CM13 and Gapps for it,
ill transfer them onto my SD card and ill boot into recovery,
ill then factory and wipe data and cache$
then ill flash the ROM and then Gapps
then Reboot
is this process fine do you think?

Actually do a full backup then wipe everything except external SD card and usb storage

Oh and now I keep getting camera errors. My phone seems to be the biggest piece of $hit

Hi!
I think you must provide more information to us in order to help you.
Tell us:
is your ROM stock running without problems?
Which ROM stock version is running without problems?
if you want to flash a MM custom ROM, you must flash first a stock MM ROM (ODIN flash can modify PIT, partitions size, etc)
I was running a LP ROM stock version, then try to flash RR MM and it wasn't able to run
I flashed by ODIN samsung stock MM, then flash RR MM and run without problems!

The only problem i encountered with the stock ROM was it was sluggish with the amount of crap i had on the phone (alot of pics and apps)
Lollipop Android 5.0 G900IDVU1BOJ1 For the Australian Samsung Galaxy s5 (Optus but unlocked from stock)
i initially did flash a stock ROM using Odin and then using TWRP i factory Reset, Dalvalik, Cache and internal storage.
and are you saying flash the 6.0 Stock on the phone then try to do the Cyanogen mod ROM afterwards??
Thanks heaps

I don't know much about the g900i is it basically a g900f that works in Australia?

How to update g900i to cm13

pretty much so g900f roms would run on the g900i im sure. im able to install CM 13 its just running poor whether i do a dirty flash or a proper flash battery goes flat by just sitting their. was 100% this morning (9:30 AM) and its 11:30 AM and all ive done is listen to music and its at 44% and NFC wont work, this is with the latest cm 13 update too

To save battery life you can try using greenify LSpeed and kernel auditor apps all avaliable from Google play

What kernel are you using? What ROM are you using? Did you check your APN? Need more info

Sounds like you flashed a 4.3 kernel on a 4.4 ROM. Which is fine but you need the deprimator WiFi zip. Or just flash a 4.4 kernel

Here is a link to the TAR file.

I don't think you have to reset the binary counter in order to take the OTA.

This tar will make everything stock. And it will wipe your internal memory. So backup anything important.

[Q] How to revert from 4.4.2 to 4.2.2

Hello everyone,
I unfortunately installed the OTA US Sprint 4.4.2 update over the weekend, not realizing that it would essentially making it impossible for me to use my most frequented app, Backcountry Navigator (GPS mapping software), due to 4.4.2 not allowing apps to write or read data on a secondary external sd card. The reason being is that with this app, you typically download and store map files, which I previously had around 25 GB saved on my external card. Now with 4.4.2. it's requiring me to use the internal storage. So, this makes the phone useless for my needs. Is there anyway I can revert to 4.2.2 or install a custom rom based on 4.2.2 so that I can regain the app permission of Write_External_Storage?
Sure....just flash Stockist v6...it's mk2.....are you rooted?
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
No, phone isn't rooted yet. I'm actually quite new to learning about custom roms - I guess it's time to learn! Thanks for the reply.

hello. I had upgraded to 4.4 via ota nae. I could revert to 4.3 by Stockist mk2 v6. the problem is that now I have 4.3 but the baseband version appears as nae version of the software and also as nae. any ideas? can now flash it with the stock rom mk2?
Custom roms do not come with modems (baseband) you have to flash that separately. Unknownforce has a thread where all the modems are located.

Well once you took that NAE OTA your phone is now stuck there. You can only root it , install custom recovery, and then flash an mk2 based ROM like I think you already have.
But you cannot get your phone back to how it was prior to that update, stock mk2 with no root no custom recovery... Follow me?

You'll have to ask someone else or do some searching... I'm usually on my Verizon S4 I'm not 100% with the Sprint one as that's my girls phone.

[Q] Help updating to 4.4

I am currently running 4.3 root SPH-L720, when I try to install the OTA update it says it fails but can work and lose root.
I want to know if go with the update it will unroot, and/or wipe phone or brick.
You have to be on a stock recovery even then it might fail if you have custom apps or mods. Best thing is to Odin NAE tar and re root.

Completely agree with Daniel, he has given excellent advice!

Just Rooted 5.0/Jasmine, now I wanna go back.

The Jasmine mod makes it so I cannot play the only game I use this phone for. How do I go about removing the Jasmine mod completely so I can return to my game? I'm downloading the OB6 stock firmware and I plan on flashing that with Odin in a minute. Will that do the trick?
Yes. But need to update to 0F1
