I upgraded to the latest ROM version 3.14.831.3 couple of weeks ago, after that I found the camera flash light does not work when switch to always on mode. The flash light would be not on until I take a photo which acts the same as the auto mode.
I have tried the factory reset, which seems it only restore back to the latest ROM with clean settings, but the problem is still there.
Any one has same issue?
Yes, it's the new software version that does that.
I was thinking if we could take the files from the old camera software and put them in this version.
It's annoying not just if you want to use the phone as a flashlight (solved with torch app, but not that handy) but the picture quality in low light conditions totally sucks, because it won't focus when the flash is on.
This is by design... it's SUPPOSED to behave like that! The way the flash illuminated constantly like a torch/flashlight in the old ROM was very annoying... it wasted battery power, blinded your subjects and was distracting for everyone else around. You won't find a conventional 'proper' camera exhibiting this behaviour (actually, they can't anyway due to the way xenon flash tubes work).
The new flash behaviour in the new ROM mirrors how a conventional camera would behave and, IMO, is a big improvement.
As for focusing, I've never had much of a problem and think the HD2 does a very good job in low light most of the time. The only real solution to accurate low-light focusing is an IR focus-assist lamp.

If it is by design, HTC should disable the option in the camera mode to have the flash light always on. And also disable the flash light in the Camcorder too, it works totally fine in the Camcorder mode.
Plus they do not mention this change in the ROM description.

I think you're misunderstanding how the camera app is designed to work... when you select the option to force the flash on, you're telling the camera app to always fire the flash, regardless of the ambient light level. The flash LED is not supposed to stay lit the whole time that 'force flash on' is enabled and using the flash LED as a flashlight to see where you're going has got nothing to do with the camera app. By modifying the behaviour of the flash LED in the new ROM, HTC have replicated the behaviour of a regular camera and have enhanced the camera app in doing so. Having the flash LED constantly on has got nothing to do with taking better pictures.
When in video mode, of course the LED should be constantly on as its purpose in that mode is that of a video light. This is correct functionality.

I think you're right about this. What would be nice is if there was a way to have a little more control over it. For example - if you're in reaaally low light and want to take a picture you can't even see what it is you're trying to take a picture of unless the flash LED is on - so I understand the op's frustration. What would be ideal is if there was a way to tell the HD2 to activate the LED flash X seconds prior to taking the picture. That way you could make it come on for a second or two before it takes the pic so you can actually see what you're takin a pic of.
or, for those rare times when the light must be on when taking pics, you could always turn on the torch and then start the camera.
Any recommended torch app for HD2?

Does the front LED allow you to choose any color (like the Nexus 4, Galaxy Nexus, etc)?
Does the rear LED allow this too?
Do apps like Light Flow allow you to properly set different colors for different apps? Can you use both front AND rear LED's? Thanks!

I can only speak for stock:
You cannot choose the colors for each event, but you can choose which event you want to blink. The colors for each are preset, most are green.
The rear seems to be one color, but only works for:
Incoming Call
Alarm
Ongoing Call
I believe Light Manager (nonRoot) allows you to change the colors to anything you want (on the front). The back I believe is only hyper white. It has a very nice looking pulse to it. I believe people trying light flow could not get the app to detect the rear LED. Someone else can confirm.
using light flow i got the rear led to light up but it does not flash like the front so like when you get a message the front led is flashing and the rear led stays lit up and its only color is the hyper white
Front is full RGB color. Back is just white. You cannot globally change the color for specific notification types. You can however change the color for notifications from specific contacts to colors like purple, yellow and pink (and more). It boggles my mind though that you can't change the color globally. Hopefully a custom ROM will add that.

Some have reported inconsistent results with Lightflow. Also, I'm a battery nut and hate having extra apps running for such specific things like controlling the LED, not to mention a persistent Lightflow notification when it's running gets under my skin. Yeah I've got a bit of OCD when it comes to my gadgets heh.

Can anyone confirm that the rear LED flashes only once then stops? I couldn't find a setting to make it flash more than once.

This is working perfectly for me as well. you have to disable the built in notifications in settings but after that it works like a charm. No constant notification and no battery hog
For the time being looks like Light Manager is the answer.
For a few versions now the custom ROMs for my Gnex have had their own LED notification setup built in. You can set any color for any installed app, and it was always ultra reliable. So once the development really kicks in for the G2, I dont think we'll need any external app for it anymore.
This is all good info. I don't like stock SMS apps because I have more options with third party like GoSMS but sadly I couldn't get it to access the notification light. Very weird considering every other phone I've owned had no issues there.

How you set the Light Flow to use the Rear LED in way you describe?
Front LED works perfect on my LG G2, but i can't set the rear to light up using Light Flow.

This; I'd like to twiddle the rear LED too, although I know it's limited.
Also, has anyone gotten the Camera Flash to work? So far I haven't gotten it to work, but the front LED is working fine.
Can anyone please tell me how to configure rear LED in Lightflow ?
I am not saying step by step but please tell briefly. Thanks
Backlight control on the LG G2 (root users only) with their dynamic file paths. Select button-backlight1 and button-backlight2 in the settings menu to enable each part of it

Hey all. Just wanted to post to clear up some discrepancies that I have found concerning the presence or absence of the notification light on the 2014 version of the Moto X. There is in fact a notification light on the Moto X. However, like most users I couldn't find any setting for it or in fact see where it might be located physically on the phone itself.
To enable the notification light I am pretty sure your phone must be rooted and a custom ROM installed. As mentioned before, I had no idea that the Moto X had a notification LED until after I rooted it. When rooting and flashing was when I first saw the LED light up. When putting the device in fastboot mode (Volume down + power), a small green light showed up in the top speaker. Rather, in the slit between the front of the speaker and the body of the phone where the sound emenates from. I just assumed it was kind of a "warning" light to notify you that you were outing the phone in Fastboot mode and ignored it. Anyway, after the new ROM was installed and my notifications started rolling in, the light started lighting up. So far it has lit up for each text and also for my snapchats.
As for why the light was included by Motorola, but was still disabled, I can only guess. I assume that because of the Moto Display feature being included the developers assumed it would be redundant. Indeed, if I had a choice between Moto Display or a notification light, I would probably choose the display, but that just my two cents.
So, if you have rooted and flashed, have you noticed the notification light? Or is this just enabled by Motorola with the android 5.x update? Thoughts?

It's not disabled, it's just not a notification light. On the stock rom it's used to indicate that the phone is charging or low on battery if the phone is not turned on. Custom roms override that feature and use it as a notification light instead.
I'll take your word for it. However, I never saw an option for it on the settings, and it never once lit up while I was charging, on or off.
Thanks for the input and explanation!

I think it only comes on if the battery is so low that the phone can't turn on yet to indicate that it's getting power.
I saw mine blink one time. It was when I was rebooting. I saw a Red light flash real quick. Really wish I was rooted so I could enable it.
No need to have a custom rom. If you are rooted you can simply enable it using Tasker. I use it for certain profiles.

You saw one of the IR sensor lighting up. the only led on the X 2014 is a green one.
No. It was the light. But I'll argue with u more about it since I'm bored.
There are MANY YouTube reviews that mention the IR sensors and the "light flash"..

Please share tour settings.
My config. 20 in intensity is plenty sufficient
as in the "other post" i share here my config
Bad news (for me) after lightflow update (playstore 17 February) no more led notification. Can't make led work
So baaaaaad
Iv been using Tasker and the "notification listener" plugin.
Iv just set up profiles to switch a variable on and off based on notification posted/cleared.
Then a task that runs an LED flashing loop based on that variables value.
In tasker, the LED is called "charging led" not a notification led.

That happened to me on the version before this update, it was driving me crazy. LED just stopped working, tried everything to fix but it wouldn't work. Then this morning it was working and then I saw the update so I backed up the app with titanium and updated. So far, knock on wood, been working all day.
I solved unonstalling LF and re-installing from playstore. Works again. +1

I am having this issue, again, so frustrating. A reboot fixed it for a short period but the led stopped working again. I haven't tried uninstalling and redownloading but that is my next step.
I would really like to know what is causing this, the app or something with the stock rom.
Don't know why. Now i'm on cm nightlies, no need LF, led's working good
Is possible to create some kind of "patch" to use the notification LED on Stock ? I mean to use it as a native LED, like on CM builds, basically port this function from CM and implement it on Stock?
(I posted this on the Lenovo site as well.)
Just wanted to report this happening on my xt1644 (US Retail version) G4+. I've had the device for roughly 6 months without this happening on 6.0.1.
When I double flip and occasionally when I use the icon to activate the stock camera, the display screen darkens to a point where the subject of what I'm shooting can't be seen.
I'll point the camera to a bright light source (like a light bulb or sky) and the screen brightens up. Also, if I close the camera app and restart it, it sometimes "fixes" itself.
Anyone else experiencing this? Perhaps this problem/issue has to do with the light sensor(s) on the phone? Just wondering.
Asking the wisdom of the forum and admin.
Thank you.
have you tried with different camera app ??
try and state results

If this happens with other apps, it could point directly to a problem with the ambient light sensor.
If this happens with only this app, it could still point to an issue with the sensor, or the app.
Check if this issue persists with adaptive display disabled. If so, then the problem is with the app. If not, chances are that the light sensor has issues.

I haven't seen this happen while in other apps. It just occurs once in a while when I double wrist flip the phone to activate the stock camera. It doesn't happen all the time.
I'll try to isolate other elements that I may be overlooking.
As this is one feature I missed the most in all the phones I owned up until now, I wanted to know: does this phone have a notification LED?
It's nice to know when you get a message, or when you missed a call.
Mine does, i have the dual-sim, 6 gb ram version
I was surprised that it might have one, when i upgraded my phone form Oreo to Pie, seemed that a tiny not so bright green led was on during the update next to the selfie led, but i wasn't paying attention, so i'll need to check this at the next update.
Anyway, use Frontflash, it uses the selfie led as a notification led, works perfectly fine and very configurable.
